"The Ultimate Driving Machine". A proper drivers car. I've had 3 x 3 Series. I love them. Would love to have a drive of the 1M or any M car for that matter.
The 1M is a beautiful car. I’d love to drive one some day. The closest I’ve ever got to it, was a 125d courtesy car I had many years ago. To be fair, that was a lovely drive, so I can only dream of how good the 1M is. Great video though Pete. Really got across the magic of the 1M. 😊
As an owner of N52 125i coupe with M package (95% of looks and same colour as the one in the video, last manufacturing year) and future Clubman JCW owner, I can say that the 1 coupe with 6 cyl is a very special car for special days, while the JCW is a daily fun car. Both complement each other and do not compete. ❤
Great review! I have 2012 1M in valencia orange. It definitely is The Ultimate Driving Machine. It is hard to even think of a better car for a car enthusiast (it is quick, aggressive, nimble, responsive...)
It’s nice when a car surprises you, and what a place to enjoy it. I love the area surrounding the Ring, it’s just stunning. Great review as always mate.
This the only turbocharged car that I would have if given the opportunity, a unique, rare analog ultimate BMW but for the brand became the ultimate marketing machine. Thanks for sharing Pete.
I bought a manual 135i a couple of years ago - its not too hard to add wireless CarPlay these days, I bought a box of Ali express that you install under the dash and gives you full CarPlay through the factory screen, the steering wheel buttons all work with it.
I understand where you're coming from - I always respected the car from a distance because of the press reception it has consistently received, but never really desired one. Also part of me thought it might be a load of hype. For reference I have a porsche 993 and had a bmw e46 m3 (which was in PERFECT condition throughout - mechanically, suspension and body, low owners, low miles). Last year out of intrigue I test drove a 1M at a BMW dealer - within 5 minutes I fully understood what the fuss was about and the hype was real. I put a deposit down there and then and PX'd the M3 (got a decent deal as they were valued high-ish at the time). I'm sure many would disagree, but the difference was night and day, the 1M really is that special. Only one other car had a similar 'special' feel to me in recent times - the GR Yaris Circuit pack, but the 1M feels far more specialised. Somehow despite being a parts bin special - as a driving sensation it feels bespoke. I stress, they really are as good as is made out in the reviews... plus mine is even more basic, no iDrive (although its black with a bunch of OEM carbon goodies)! it is a proper purist drivers car.
Yep, from the very first moment you drive the 1M, you realise it’s a very focussed, single minded driver’s car. There’s really nothing like it until you get into exotics.

Yep, that’s going in my list of cars I must have. I did have the 2.0L TD coupe and even that was a lot of fun. They are very pretty and a definite future classic, you’re right 👍🏼 Perhaps in future with performance cars you could have a camera over the exhaust to get a good audio of that.
Happy you finally got a drive in one, and great review! For those who haven’t had the chance to drive one, they can live vicariously through you for 19 minutes ❤ I love mine - amazing car. I couldn’t leave it alone though - so now it has some modern stickier rubber, some Ohlins dampers, and double the HP 😅
That film reminded me on my one and only visit to mainland Europe if you don't count hopping across the border from Gibraltar for a few beers and the best steak I have ever eaten in my life. I had a holiday with friends of my ex on RAF Brugen at the time of the build up to Gulf war 1 so plenty of night time take offs with the afterburners lighting up the camp balconies as we put away bottles of Becks like they were lemonade. With the regards the German people they were OK unless you were in the company of Service Personnel then they were not so nice. We did a bit of touring around but sadly not in a 1M BMW. I have never rated BMW unless it was a BMW Mini JCW but I quite like the look of the M240i so maybe they are growing on me in later life. Another good film and that is me up to date with your content after a week long holiday in the Scottish Borders where my eMTB got to stretch it's legs on some serious hill climbs on and off road.

Nice video and a lovely car. The Z4M was similar in concept but with a proper M engine (338 bhp, naturally aspirated), which was the S54. The Z4M came out at the same time as the Cayman and was seen as a poor relation in terms of handling, but that engine makes it a visceral brute.
Granted it's no 1M, but I am currently recommissioning a 2011 135i M-Sport Coupe with the DCT in Le Mans Blue, which I am very much looking forward to getting on the road! Was lucky enough to live in Cologne in the mid-late 90s, so took plenty of trips up around the roads near the 'Ring, although never actually drove the Nordschleife itself.
I haven't driven hard in Germany but I have had many a motorbike trip out there especially around the area of the ring and maxed the bikes on the autobahn. One time I remember at breakfast one guy there had done an indicated 190 mph on his zzr1400🤣

Great review Ped! Nice seeing some classics! Btw how do car reviewers such as yourself manage to not get speeding points when these days it's so easy to get points even if you're not trying to speed. I can imagine some reviewers have had to stop after getting 6 or more points.
We have to be very careful and make sure we don’t speed. Especially on camera. Most press teams won’t loan cars if you have 8 or more points so it can literally ruin your job and income 😢
I love the 1M! I have a 2008 135 6spd(just hit 100k miles), so I have a little idea what its like. However, I feel the M2 Comp is the better car in the small lightweight class.
Pete what can I say absolutely brilliant I'm on the hunt for one Megga low mileage for me Oh by the way At last oakley holbrook Lovely How do you find them Tim
I drive it’s little brother- 2010 125i M Sport -super smooth 3ltr 6pot NA 6sp manual- 1/10 the price of the legend M1 but honestly a cracking drive, sharp and pointy, Great burble and delivers 285bhp ( remap) as you rev it out- find me a better £6k all rounder.
@@PetrolPed ha, i’m joking, kind of! 😜 I own a black 205 GTi, and I’ve never really been a fan of Alpine white on the model, but as time goes by they seem to be catching my eye more and more! But as for new cars, no, they should never be white! 🫣🤣
Front and back car looks decent but I've never liked the side profile looks to tall and short never works for me. Keep up the content and love the podcast
It's a cult car, they seem to be quite rare now, if you can get hold of one, keep hold of it. I would love one, but like I said they are quite rare now, especially that copper/bronze coloured one. Sod your electric crap, this is what we want!!!!
The only problem with British roads is that they are alway full of traffic and do not compare with the German roads you were driving on which brought out the dynamics of the car.
Thanks for some BMW content Pete !! The 1M seems to be getting a lot of attention lately, so many people making videos on it. I'm a BMW serial owner and fan of the brand, so I should love the 1M. I just don't though. I think it's a fugly thing, the front end just looks sad and dated, the lights are awful on that model of 1 series. It's too dumpy, too much bodywork over the rear wheels, rear end looks chopped off and unfinished. I get that it is a large engine in a small car, and I should love it, as I drive a tuned M140i myself, so again a none M engine RWD small car. I just think the 1M engine isn't that great, the handling isn't great (neither is my M140i I know), the interior is really cheap, and the seats etc are terrible, the ride is very average, the brakes are shocking, and the only thing I loved about driving one was the hydraulic steering. The only reason I can think of, as to why they command a ridiculous amount of money, is because they are rare (and Chris Harris has one). They are certainly not worth anywhere near the prices they command if you look at the car objectively. To me, they are a 25 grand car tops. The E39 M5 is a MUCH MUCH better car in every way, yet considerably cheaper to buy. The M2C is the perfect small M car imo.
Fantastic trip, fantastic car, fantastic video mate 👌 #memories ❤

I love the 1M! I have a 2008 135 6spd(just hit 100k miles), so I have a little idea what its like. However, I feel the M2 Comp is the better car in the small lightweight class.
Great car 👍
Pete what can I say absolutely brilliant I'm on the hunt for one
Megga low mileage for me
Oh by the way
At last oakley holbrook
Lovely
How do you find them
Tim
Only had them a couple of weeks. Love them 👌
Hi Peds
Hi 👋
The best M car next to the M1 and the original M3 coupe
I drive it’s little brother- 2010 125i M Sport -super smooth 3ltr 6pot NA 6sp manual- 1/10 the price of the legend M1 but honestly a cracking drive, sharp and pointy, Great burble and delivers 285bhp ( remap) as you rev it out- find me a better £6k all rounder.
Thanks for sharing
Great car, but any colour than poverty spec white please! ;)
Ouch 😣
@@PetrolPed ha, i’m joking, kind of! 😜 I own a black 205 GTi, and I’ve never really been a fan of Alpine white on the model, but as time goes by they seem to be catching my eye more and more! But as for new cars, no, they should never be white! 🫣🤣
Front and back car looks decent but I've never liked the side profile looks to tall and short never works for me. Keep up the content and love the podcast
Fair enough!
I wished they put the M3 V8 engine from the e90 series in.
That would have been fun 😜
Miss my M140i 😔
It's a cult car, they seem to be quite rare now, if you can get hold of one, keep hold of it. I would love one, but like I said they are quite rare now, especially that copper/bronze coloured one. Sod your electric crap, this is what we want!!!!
252kmh on the phone, so looks about right for the 155mph/250kmh limiter
155 mph in real money , I had to google 270 to see what it was in mph .
I put a banner up on the screen 🤷♂️
Something's wrong with the modern world when 270km/hr looks quite sedate.
😂😂😂
I was very easy to do 😬
same as my old 2.8
More fun than a mini jcw??
Different but close 👍
@@PetrolPed lmao no way in a million years is it close mate, the mini is a very aquired niche taste :)
👌👌👌
Hello mate
Old school car 7:05
Hi
Hi 👋
The only problem with British roads is that they are alway full of traffic and do not compare with the German roads you were driving on which brought out the dynamics of the car.
Pop holes are the main issues
Too much tech in many modern cars. The dashboards light up like a Disney channel and distract from the driving experience.
😂😂😂
Not bad looking except from the side, 2011 M3 flavors, but M3 makes this look UGLY step sibling. lol
