I loved the first 30mins of my test drive on a frosty November day when this was new. The Main dealer salesman suggested I drive down an untreated lane to a garden-centre to turn round. He required that I drive at no more than 7mph to do this & was clearly very concerned that I might exceed this low speed!! After I left the dealership I returned home & took a 1983 two-door Saab 99 GL 2-litre coupe back down the same frosty lane at 60mph with no trouble. So I saved myself the £40k and still have the Saab which in winter out performed the 2-door BMW 1M coupe! On a dry summer’s day the BMW 1M might be great. But you do need an old Saab for wet or frosty days! I love your videos!

I have always lusted over the 1M. It’s probably along the E46 M3 and the Z3M coupe the only M car I would own. It just feels right. Your video has confirmed what I though of this car. Thanks for a great vid! It is a shame that BMW was not able to continue the good trend that started with this car on the M2. The only downside of the 1M is that I could not afford one when new, and will never be at this rate.
Great vid guys. I’ve got an e46 M car, but, driven the 1M and I agree with nearly all your comments. Yes, the 1M is very excitable and especially so on wet B roads. It’s more chuckable than the e46. In fact, it would be a great drift car if it wasn’t so valuable. It’s quicker than the e46 but the 4.0 e92 M3 is quicker still and equally great to drive. I would love to see and hear your thoughts on the new M2 Competition, as it’s supposed to be the real successor to the 1M and the e46 M3. Cheers...

Hi Guys, please tell me you bought it. I tried to convince my dad that an E46 M3 CSL (18000 miles, never been tracked, £29500) would be a good investment, but he wouldn't listen. I was just blagging it and didn't even realize what an investment it would turn out to be, Doh. (Probably would've put in hedge backwards anyway).
Why can't Jeremy Clarkson James May and the Midget make nice videos like this where they test drive and talk about the car car and not smashing up cars blowing up engines and burning out tyres good job we got Joey from Friends love top gear now ps Jeremy was really good years ago I don't know what happened in the last 10 years he just fell to a bits, like a rag doll being slowly pulled to pieces buy a 17 year old dog with no teeth
e60 m5 review or riot :)
Great car. Was the blueprint for the M2 which I would take over it IMHO. I think the e46 and e39 are the two best. E92 was too bloated, but hell of an engine. 1M is still a great car though.
Nicely done gents, as always. I'd have this over a CSL every time.
Jason would, Damian’s torn between the 2
