We all do !! In the UK we still have arcades but they are more like kiddie casinos. The only videogames are those big raw thrills cabinets. However, we do have a few big retro arcades ( arcade club) up north.
This is available in English at the Galloping Ghost arcade in Chicago. It's a force feedback sitdown cabinet as well! They also have Lucky&Wild which is similar too.
That stock car race stage is incredible, it reminds me of a scene in Miami Vice where a murder suspect tried to escape with a sports prototype.I never thought I would see something like that in a video game, and it's well executed too.By the way, the first time I saw this game on RUclips, I thought it was from PS2, the graphics certainly look the part.
You don't need that, there is a way to change region to EU or US, that changes the game language automatically like most Arcade games. Also consider that Nancy this time is an English (UK) Actress so in Japanese version she is dubbed, as her real voice (and facial movements) are based in English language.
I remember the original video. I thought that this was what a proper arcade racing game should be, a riot. Just the sound of the siren was enough to make the ears prick up.
I'm only just getting to this today. Funny you upload this video after you saw I was playing this on Discord a few weeks ago. I really like this one one of the few 3d transitions better than the originals Taito borrowed a lot from Burnout here and I'm all for it
I own this cab. My Type X2 is currently dead and I dont have a monitor. I was able to take the MAME CHD of this and replace the game with the decrypted version of it. I have the Unico ULM26 LCD monitor which I plan to retrofit into this cab.
Love these games! I always felt that the Burnout franchise took some inspiration from Chase HQ with how you need to ram into your opponents to crash them. Different premise, but similar execution.
the true Chase HQ 2 lived on the Amiga, Chase HQ II: Special Criminal Investigation, this looks more like number 4 or something, but then I'm old & played it back on the Amiga so might be a little biased, though I will say this looks way better of course
You ever play Ray Tracers, also by Taito, on the PS1? Very similar style of arcade combat racing game, with some similar bosses. It was way too easy apart from the last level, but I still had fun with it. Wish there were more of this kind of thing outside of the Arcade. Burnout is great but doesn't quite scratch the same itch.
Is it cel shaded? Looks really nice either way and not a style seen often. If this had received a home port I would've bought it in a heartbeat. And Taito if you're listening, more Chase HQ please. A new twist could be one player on a wheel and one player with a light gun. Think It might've been done before but the name escapes me...
I'm annoyed that Taito never seems to put any Chase H.Q. games into any arcade game compilations for modern consoles like the Switch. I can only theorize that it might be because the original arcade games used likenesses of real world vehicles without licensing them, which wasn't so much of an issue when the games were made but which today, now that auto manufacturers get a lot of money from videogame licensing, could get them in legal trouble (but you think they'd just sprite-swap them with more generic-looking vehicles).
@@VideoGameEsoterica The 2007 Chase H.Q. 2 arcade game seems to have generic cars where you can see influences from real cars but they're not close enough to any actual real world car that there would be any licensing issues (except maybe for that Hummer-looking stretch limo SUV) so I'm not sure why that one hasn't gotten a console release unless it's just because it's short.
Chase HQ software is somehow totally incompatible with my brain, and for whatever reason I just cannot 'get gud.' 😅It embarrasses me on every single platform I try it on, the latest being GBC on pocket about a month ago. Might as well have another chase hq embarrass me...
I'm probably playing wrong, but to me the old ones feel a lot like 'megarace' does when you run out of ammo and have to ram cars to death--which is the slowest and least fun way of doing that. 🏎
@@VideoGameEsoterica It would appear so, when this game loads and goes to "NETWORK CHECKING", if there's no internet, the game won't start, i've tested personally. It would be cool if there's a version that does not requires internet connection at all, fully independent.
@@VideoGameEsoterica I hope i'm completely wrong for what i've said, maybe unawarly i picked the version which requires internet. Arcades are not supposed to need internet connections at all in order to work, it would be an insanity.
I wish arcades would make a come back... i loved them so much ...
Yes sadly in the US they are mostly dead
We all do !! In the UK we still have arcades but they are more like kiddie casinos. The only videogames are those big raw thrills cabinets. However, we do have a few big retro arcades ( arcade club) up north.
In Brazil it's the same. Dead for at least 20 years already ...
In the US now it’s mostly barcades with the same few games or arcades that are 90% redemption machines
Such a bummer
In Helsinki, Finland you can play this arcade! The place is called Sugoi. And the version they have is in English.
Ooh fun. And I’ve been to Helsinki! Granted that was like 18 years ago lol
@@VideoGameEsoterica Let me guess, skiing...
Yep haha

Yes I’ve done a video on Lucky & Wild forever ago. Great game

Yes basically all of Chase HQ games are heavily inspired by 80s action movies / tv shows in a good way
I love that in place of proper celshading, ther is a POSTERIZE effect to make it more comic book-like.
Yes it’s a similar yet diff look
I never knew this existed! I absolutely adored the first 2 in the arcade
This one is a super deep cut
There is a english dump of this game available called "Chase H.Q. 2 v2.08 EU" :)
I usually show the Japanese version of games. Not even sure why lol
You don't need that, there is a way to change region to EU or US, that changes the game language automatically like most Arcade games.

Makes sense considering the devs were in England vs Japan
I remember the original video. I thought that this was what a proper arcade racing game should be, a riot. Just the sound of the siren was enough to make the ears prick up.
Yeah it’s just a tight 12 minutes of arcade racing and destruction fun
looks fun :) i was a huge fan of the original, especially the ZX Spectrum home conversion, but lost track over time with all the weird spinoffs
Def play this one. It’s just the classic gameplay in a modern form
I'm only just getting to this today. Funny you upload this video after you saw I was playing this on Discord a few weeks ago.
I really like this one one of the few 3d transitions better than the originals Taito borrowed a lot from Burnout here and I'm all for it
Haha sometimes the timing just works out like that
I've been playing Batman Arcade too...
A fun one. Shallower than a kiddy pool but fun
Easy to see why it was never ported. There isn't much to it.
Yes it’s basically 1/3 of a game and the other campaigns are reskins of the first one
I own this cab. My Type X2 is currently dead and I dont have a monitor. I was able to take the MAME CHD of this and replace the game with the decrypted version of it. I have the Unico ULM26 LCD monitor which I plan to retrofit into this cab.
Fun cab to have. I don’t think this is on my X2 multi
i love the PARENTAL ADVISORY sticker on the hummer limo lol.
Game is filled with fun small touches
Love these games! I always felt that the Burnout franchise took some inspiration from Chase HQ with how you need to ram into your opponents to crash them. Different premise, but similar execution.
Chase HQ inspired Thrill Drive and Burnout devs had a Thrill Drive cab in the offices and said it inspired Burnout
I've only played the old chase hq, didn't even know this is existed. Looks fun
Def give it a shot
My local Chuck e cheeses happened to have this game. Definitely played the heck out of it.
Nice. Always a fun time

Haha the numbering conventions were wholly ignored
Quite a few units were sold in Europe.
Makes sense considering Gamewax was from Europe
Well... in comparison to the Chase HQ 2 I had on the Amiga, this one looks like alot of fun. Loved the first Chase HQ on the arcade.
Def play this then. You’ll love it
Worth one play through just for Nancy!

A long time ago. I should probably play it again
I played this one years ago and was wondering who played Nancy (that Nancy from Chase HQ) in this one.
That’s a good question
According to Wikipedia her name is Jakki Degg.
Good to know
Think at this time traditional arcades in the west were dying out, guessing that didn't help.
Did not help at all sadly
Wish they would develop another one VGE. But in the meanwhile. This version is so much fun to play. 8^)
Anthony..
Maybe one day but I doubt it
Chase H.Q. 2 was so unreal
It’s like 14 minutes of straight arcade racing fun

Probably exactly because it’s short. There’s barely a game there for a console release. Only really works in arcades
My local arcade has this one, but the crt has been replaced with a shitty 16:9 lcd which stretches the game out.
Ooh that’s the worst
Kinda modded crazy taxi vibes
Except you don’t deliver fares, you destroy others 😂
How do arcade emulators perform on the steam deck?
Hit or miss when you get to PC games in arcades
