I don't think the Joycon connectors are going to break easily or be flimsy. I think magnets engage them, but that the cutout shapes you see on the connection point actually use the magnetism to pull them out into an extended position that creates a physical protrusion which provides a rigid connection point and support structure. They likely use internal metal slide rails for rigidity and strength, so even if you're thinking "plastic cutouts" that may just be a plastic cover over a metal protruding sort of rod that fits into another metal socket in the console. The protruding portion may also have other magnets on its sides to create multiple directions of magnetic bonding, meaning there won't be a single "weak" direction. It's also possible that it uses an electromagnet in the console to engage this process while relying on permanent magnets on the side of the protrusion to hold the extended position within the console. The electromagnet won't waste battery over time as it's only used to pull on the extendable rod and then turns off, so no wasted power holding this position over time.
This is just my assumptions, and I'm probably wrong. I just notice that they didn't give a detailed render of the interior of the console's joycon ports. This is either intentionally left smooth because it's actually smooth in real life and is a ring of magnets holding it in, or it's left smooth to hide their patents and designs right up until release and the actual interior of the jotcon ports are more elaborate like I describing up above. Hence why I'm probably wrong. 😆

I agree, I'm sure in the video i say the way the coloured part of the joycon will slot in means the stress will be on that section. and it looks thick, so you would have to break the whole table really to be breaking the connection in the middle.

00:51 You mean the release botton? No, its awkward to use in mouse mode because it travels upwards in that position.
02:47 Yes, developers could easily implement that as it has being done a millionth times on pc. Steam lets you map mouse emulation to a thumbstick for example.
03:53 The layout of the holes is purposefully different, so it seems they are not compatible.
05:35 Games that just use the IR could work with the original Joycon. Now the labo games that required the switch to be inside the cartboard wont obviously. But 1 2 Switch! should work.
10:24 The "spinny spin" doesnt mean what you think, remember they also pres the ABYX buttons and there weren't any issues with those. But the main leaker says there are halleffect & he has been right with everything.
11:00 Maybe the male Joycon connectors in the switch 2 spring back like the dock connector does when docking the switch. So they rest in a suspension instead of being stiff like people assume.

00:51 : Yeah I'd heard it was the release button then i heard not. I missed the other video showing it being used as a release button too. I was just tying to think of how well the joycon would work in mouse mode.
02:47 -- Yeah devs can do it. but that require patches from already released games. I was talking more about can the Switch 2 OS do this for you. Like the Steam Deck os. Basically Nintendo taking control rather than relying on the thirdparties.
03:53 The holes didnt seem that different to me. Would be silly to need multiple docks. Especially as Nintendo will probably keep the switch around for a while.
05:35 -- yeah i agree, But having to be forced to use a different controller is that enough for Nintendo to say not compatible? As technically without the old joycons you cant play it?
10:24 Yeah but to show the stick feels like they're saying it. and yeah I i did mention it was leaked that were hall effect
11:00 Makes more sense, TBH I'm clutching at straws with it, as I was hoping for more than just better specs.

For nintendo's sake i hope there will be a gimmick with the joycon being a mouse, but the nintendo switch 2 color scheme kinda sucked and lack lustre too.

I like the new look if they're planning to target more of a hard core gamer audience this time around, such as putting forth an emphasis and effort to draw more third parties and ports like the Doom games on the original Switch. But it still has a splash of color to communicate that under the cover they're still Nintendo and ready to do Nintendo things.

Yeah it's basically confirmed it's mouse functionality. They had the joycons moving round like real mice with the wrist strap looking like a tail.
And we will 100% get limited edition versions. TBH I was hoping Monster Hunter Wilds would be on it, ( I doubt it will be, as it's not Steam deck approved) but I would love a Switch 2 Monster Hunter Limited Edition.

@Will_Forge Yeah they are aiming at the normal gamers. I think this might hurt the switch more though. Steam OS based handhelds will continue to come out. Lenovo just made one. And Being able to carry your library across platforms and PC's is much more compelling.
I struggle now to justify Switch Third Party games, as I have a gaming PC and Steam Deck.
Obvs i will be getting the Switch 2 on day one though.

@QTronics I prefer physical copies of games since even Steam has adjusted its family sharing system to be much less convenient to share my digital games between myself, my wife, and my 4 kids. Now if I'm playing any of my games they can't play one of mine at the same time. It doesn't have to be the same game. It's lame.
Nintendo's sharing is also bogus as my kids can only play the games my profile owns if they're doing so on my allocated "home console", or if they use my profile on our second Switch console.
In both cases having a physical copy of nearly every game we own is enough to continue to make it function as gaming should. Share and play together. So for me the appeal of third party games on my Switch 2 will be that I can get them on a cartridge instead of dedicated digital only like all of the Steam Decks. Hence why I and my family own multiple (like 7 with 2 high end?) PCs and 2 Nintendo Switches but 0 Steam Decks. I don't feel any sense of appeal to purchase a Steam Deck at all, and I doubt I ever will with their current family sharing policy. It's my primary pain point with them, and has reduced my Steam game purchase rate by at least 50% since they made that change. Eventually with enough strong and affordable alternatives to Steam such as GOG, Switch, Games Pass (all of which I have/use now and they're growing) my purchase rate may reduce as low as 10% what it used to be at my peak. The current family plan is boosting sales short term as people double up on copies of games, but is absolutely hurting their sales long term.
