    I discovered your channel last Friday and I just watched more than 5 long documentaries and this last video. I believe that your craft is better in long videos, but it is not appealing to young generations and therefore I agree that mixing between the two formats will benefit you (and us in the long run) better.
    You are truly amazing and inspiring. I have watched history and travel content for years on RUclips and other platforms and I think that the way you mix between on-site filming, storytelling and history is a revolutionary concept. You are taking the greatness from both worlds: the uniqueness of your personalized, routine and authentic point of view to the insane research, study and knowledge about historical facts.
    I know there are so many stories that the western world has missed about the Far East. I am excited to see your future projects and thankful for what you have done so far. Keep it up man!

    This was an interesting video. I live on the Sea of Japan coast of Japan, and the region I live in used to be dependent on trade in the sea. Today the entire Japanese region has been declining for at least 50 years. I think, at least in part, this decline has started from the Russian far east being an afterthought and North Korea being closed off to Sea of Japan trade. Perhaps if China had more commerce on the Sea of Japan, this region of Japan wouldn't be experiencing such economic stagnation.

      Vladivostok has a cargo port and there are certainly trains connecting Chinese cities with that port.
      I'm not convinced that a bridge, that is much taller than the river bed beneath it is deep, is the issue here.
      When you look at the river closely you can tell that China would have to dig out the river bed for at least 20 Kilometers to enable even smaller container vessels to reach Chinese territory by faring up the Tumen river.

    • @2393034
      @2393034 6 месяцев назад

      Digging out the river bed is the least of the issue for China, there are way more sophisticated project than this that China had done. Therefore it is the issue of the bridge height that block acess.@@Ryan_Winter

      WRONG! According to historical facts, Outer Manchuria was a forbidden area for the Qing Dynasty royal family. Apart from the Manchu people, the Qing government mostly prohibited other Chinese citizens from entering both Outer and Inner Manchuria. Outer Manchuria, in particular, was sparsely populated. It was only after Russia occupied Outer Manchuria that the Qing government allowed Chinese citizens to enter the region, an event known as the "Rush into the Northeast."闯关东 At the same time, Koreans were also permitted to enter.

    • @michaelhuang7842
      @michaelhuang7842 6 месяцев назад +19

      By the way, it wasn't until the late Qing Dynasty that the government allowed all Chinese citizens to enter Manchuria. Prior to that, Manchuria was sparsely populated and largely undeveloped, which made it rich in natural resources, as it had been a forbidden area belonging to the imperial court for two hundred years.

    Hi JingWu, im a fan of your content, and watched most of it. I love your long form content, as this is where your talent really shines, but i also understand the need for short form content. As i get older and more busy with life and work, there's a pressure in myself in whatever i am doing, to get to the point right away and save precious time, including...shorter length videos..
    Many times i have to defer watching longer videos in youtube to some other time.
    So there needs to be a balance i believe... one suggestion i can make is to release short length videos as series, that can later be collated as one massive long form videos. Many other history related channels do that like kings and generals to name one.
    they have several short length videos released about various topics such as Napoleonic Wars, Roman Empire, World War 2 in the Pacific, etc.. and at the end of the series, they issue a full length compilation video that can run up to 3 hours, with the added benefit that you can do additional editing on the videos or issue corrections based on feedbacks. Please consider Jing Wu! More power !

    14:55 The bridge looks to be of the same height as both banks of the river that it connects, which is quite convenient so there was zero reason for them to make this bridge higher back when it was built increasing the costs, yet alone rebuilding it now. And if they were to make it higher they would have to make this bridge WAY WAY longer too in order to support the railroad because trains usually go on slopes of only 2 degrees or less.

    I’m sure China can build a new canal parallel to the Yalu river estuary to solve the accessibility problems. I don’t think they saw great values in it as you’ve said. Upsetting both the North Korea and Russian isn’t in their interests. Your concerns are most intriguing. However, In my humble opinion, a canal from Changchun thru shenyang to Yingkou will be better served and economical. The flat land there, is a much better option. The Yalu and Turmen side are too mountainous to be much use.

      No, they won't. I haven't seen China successfully pressuring anyone. Chinese diplomacy is rather soft and usually gives up more to solve border disputes. I also wouldn't say its a stolen land by the russian. China did sign off those land to russia under pressure, but also in exchange for russian protection against the Japanese and the west. When a country is weak, it will lose land and currently the best way for China not to lose anymore land is not to agitate the russian and the north korean, but to fight against the west and their vassal states. China might lose the yalu or the tumen, but its nothing compared to losing taiwan, south china sea and tech war to the west.

    Excelente video.
    Es increíble la manera como lo explicas.
    Siempre veía esa parte del mapa de China y me preguntaba ¿Por qué China no tenia acceso al mar de Japón?. Al ver tu video, ya tengo las respuestas a mis preguntas.
    Minuto 21:15 me hizo recordar el control que tiene EEUU sobre sus aliados de Europa.
    Hay que considerar que los 3 países poseen armas nucleares, así que la única manera de convencerlos, tendrá que ser a la buena 😅.

    I once wrote an article about NE China and shared my theory about why it is declining - it is mainly because of North Korea and its isolation from the rich and the industrialized countries in the region like SK and Japan and even furthermore extended to cross-pacific couterpart, which made manchuria landlocked. Now you show me the details and proved my speculation correct. Bravo!

    日本人として見ると、露朝間の(露骨に低く作られた)橋は、日中貿易を阻害する代わりに日本や韓国東部を中国の海軍力から守っていたんですね。目から鱗の面白い話でした。
    私はいずれロシアと北朝鮮は中国の要求を呑むように思えましたが、どうなるでしょうか... 中国にとっては2国を同時に説得する必要があり難題だろうとは想像できます。

    • @651321ification
      @651321ification 6 месяцев назад

      しかし、将来中国はロシアを説得し、ロシアを通じて北朝鮮を説得するだろう!この動画には言っていないのは、現在のロシアとウクライナの戦争のため、ロシアは経済的にも政治的にも深刻な被害を受けているからだ!だから中国の支持を得るために、ロシアはウラジオストクの港のほとんどを中国に与え、これらの港を中国の税関基準で運営させている(つまり「内港化」)。

    • @651321ification
      @651321ification 6 месяцев назад +4

      また、これまでロシアはさまざまな方法で中国が建設しようとしていたインフラ建設プロジェクトを遅らせてきたが、今回のロシアとウクライナ戦争が始まってからは順調にスタートし、建設を加速させている。ロシア(あるいはプーチン)にとって、今のロシアはもう選択肢がないからだ!彼は中国しか選べない。ロシアが中国がロシアの「盟主」になっているのを非常に見たくないとしても、将来の傾向はそうであり、ロシアの国力はますます衰えていくだけで、中国の国力はますます強くなるだけで、欧米諸国はほとんどロシアを「封殺」しているので、ロシアの未来はますます中国に頼るだけで、頼りたくなくてもできないからだ!
