Did Richard's speed blow you away or were you more impressed with Freddie's debut effort? Let us know in the comments 👇
Freddie is improving fast
Please put richard on a hardtail XC bike with clip on aerobars, lock out front suspension and 2 inch touring tyres inflated to the max. I want to see how such an arrangement (a mishmash) compared to a normal TT bike.
Put in context all were brilliant.
To be fair, freddy only has 45 watts lower on ftp than ollie
All 3 👌
Freddie pulling up and nearly puking is the most relatable thing I've seen on RUclips.
Right! It's not at all that Freddy almost tossed his cookies, it's that so many of us often get close to that point. These videos are helpful with keeping our goals and abilities in perspective.
Ohhh, the first hill climb feeling
Tells me he gave it his all. He's got my respect!
Sam Benett agrees
I agree hahaha
Freddie should be a regular presenter just to represent 99.9% of the people who actually cycle and watch GCN
don’t know about 99% with 270 watt FTP
Don't know about 99% but recently rode 30 miles at 15.6 mph 61 years young on a low geared track bike. That's got to be 200watts + 300feet elevation change. Also 17.3 mph over 20 miles with road crossings and no brakes. More hilly, a bit bigger gear. I did stop.
I'd rather see experts...
@@westwingaero probably 3w/kg
He was looking fast. He is a bit overweight but on flat does not really matter, I got overtake by a freddie once on a semi iron man.
Im here to watch ma dude Freddie.
Indeed :) As was said - our champion :)
A new GCN presenter?????
our dude
i would like you guys to train freddie for 10 weeks days try to gring up his power and do this chellenge again and also make a week on how much fast did freddie get in 10 weeks
Yep that'd be good content
+1
Ollie might be a bit worried about that one...
@@gcn ollie should also train for next chellenge to come as close to the pro
@@gcn also you should do a 10 week chellenge on ollie so next time he doesn't get dropped in roadies vs si on timetrial bike
Freddie talks???!!!! Did he get union pay for a speaking part? Go Freddie!!! You're our man (all of us beginners, that is).
And he’s good at it too.
He spoke in the last one. When he was saying how he beat Ollie up the climb.... 🤔 😉 😅 😎 Gotta say though that's a different Freddie in so many ways to the bloke we first saw in the first climbing video.
@@FlatSpinMan He's coming for a job at GCN.
Union pay? This is RUclips!
Ollie brings Freddie in when he wants to not lose.
For now ... give it a year or two and it might be a different story.
240 watts for 25 minutes straight is no joke as a beginner! Mad respect.
exactly, unbeliveable
To put it into context, Freddie was going around 38 km/h. That's actually insane for a beginner!
Freddie! Mad respect!
Ollie didn't mention the hour record ... what has happened!?
We've started cutting it out 😉
He got humbled after getting dropped
@@gcn Are you sure Ollie didn't drop it?
Just hire Freddie. He’d be the present of the people. Plus I want to see him get to the point where he can drop Ollie in a race.
@@alexohye3904 geez
Freddy’s excitement on the pure speed of being on a TT bike was awesome...
And I felt his fear as well negotiating the chicane at that speed on a TT bike. Fantastic results even if he hesitated there!
I want to try it out now
he was actually having fun there...
When Ollie said "ready Freddy?" Me: "crazy little thing called love"
He's gotta stay cool... relax.
Take a long ride on his TT bike.
@@eccehomer8182 Both under appreciated comments.
And it would have been reasonable if he had ridden the course on a motorbike.
Faith in humanity restored
Freddie getting into the aero bars and literally popping his head up and chatting away 😂😂 Absolutely iconic, what unflappable confidence
If FTP 270 is a beginner lvl then I probably can't even ride a bike..
🤣🤣
That's kinda the point when people say all those power savings in top of the range products are ridiculous. They're thought for the people in the >400 watts, if I'm at 220 W FTP I'm not going to see any benefit, but then those products aren't aimed at me.
Do you not see how big Freddie is? 270w is easier for a heavier person to do.
@@bighammer3464 he's also a rugby player iirc. They have a lot of power in the legs.
FTP doesn't paint the full picture. W/kg is more accurate indication of your ability.
Ollie's hair look fabulous, Britain's next hair model.
Ollie should have his own show where he reviews shampoos and conditioners
Scientifically scrutinised obviously!
I love it. I totally misread your comment as saying the opposite early!
+1 looking lucious
How does he fit it under a helmet. Does he take it off?
Tbf Freddie was looking strong as f
They should make them ride hand powered bikes😂😂😂Freddie will win sleeping 😅😜
yeah but not for cycling...skinier frames would be better off...lucky buggers..🤣 I am sort of Freddy's frame and need to loose lots
Is it the same Freddie as before?
@@kelsoncheng Freddie is unchanged.
@@kelsoncheng it’s a whole different Freddie but the exact same Freddie, bit like the former Fredo 10p chocolates, same thing, still 10p but leaner.
8:47 Ollie sounded really sweet and genuine, almost like he was about to cry
People love Freddie because he relates to less experienced riders and it’s great to see people learn!
Weetabix that's left in plate all day lol spot on 🤣🤣
If Freddie averaged 240w, what was his power like at the beginning and where was it at the end. Freddie looks like he's built for the velodrome. Whole new challenge, 1k on a track.
CHAMPION OF THE PEOPLE!
of the REAL beginners :)
So Ollie went 4 minutes faster than Freddie for only 50 watts more. To go another 2 minutes faster, Richard needed another HUNDRED. Marginal gains man
Sadly, the areodynamic resitance increases squared to the velocity. Nature always put a spoke in your wheel.
This is like needing double the Amplifier watts for only a 3dB increase
Ollie lighter and more aero
@@antoniohernandez6590 Bad comparison since dB chart is logarithmic 🙃
2 = 10^(3/10) = 3 dB
3 dB = 10*lg(2) dB = 2
dB is just a mathematical operator in the same sense % is. So a factor of two is the same as a 3 dB increase.
(note: actually it's 3.01 dB)
Considering Freddie has more a rugby prop physique than a racing snake I think he is awesome. Great effort all three guys but Freddie is the star.
Weakness : Getting dropped . I have no other choice than smiling while reading this ^^
"Strengths: actually has upper body strength" got me good
*Boliver Fridgewater has entered the chat*
@@katiel7166 I laughed out loud.
Freddie's weakness : hairdo. ??? That should have been Ollie's weakness !
Just give Freddie a full time job already. Lad has amazing charisma.
He already works for GCN. He does some office work, can't remember what.
@@andrewnorthall That's cool!
More please, though with Freddie putting out 240w you might need a new beginner
Freddie's legs are about as thicc as Dan Lloyd's upper body. The W/kg matters a bit more than raw numbers.
Not necessarily, especially on a flat TT course
@@daskanguru140 indeed on the flat it’s more about watts/cda than watts/kg
@@AndresGarcia-hu8ij not inaccurate.
Just look at the thumbnail for a comparison on their front surface area, sure it's flat but he's also pushing a lot more wind
I think it would be interesting if there's a video about "Beginner with TT bike versus Pro TT Cyclist with road bike" on GCN. GCN, wish you guys could make a video about this.
We did that but with Ollie as the beginner 😂
We'll let you see the results of that one... ruclips.net/video/uOC1q0vVU00/видео.html
Freddie, do you want to start a YT channel for 100kg beginners? We could have videos like: "That hill over there? I'd rather cycle 6 miles around it." or "How much slower is avoiding hills altogether?"
Freddie is insane.... he can't be "beginner" anymore in any future video, since he's better than most beginners will ever be, but you could give him a job as a presenter...
37,7 km an hour speed on a 10 mile race. It is brilliant for a beginner
Would be interesting to have each of you compare yourself between a TT bike and normal road bike. How much is a pro, an amateur, a beginner gaining through a TT bike and a TT position compared to a road bike ride?
It is fun to watch the improvements Freddie is making! I enjoy these videos because it gives hope to beginners but also shows how great the pros really are.
At this point I just want Freddie to be an official GCN presenter
Another great video Ollie. Richard is an absolute monster but love watching Freddie's progress. 25 minute TT for the first time is epic.
Keep the documentary of Freddie's progress going!
Awesome work Freddie.
Can completely relate to that feeling of weakness leaving the body.
Well done on an amazing first run.
Enjoyed it, great show, really motivating, thanks. 👍
Freddies comments about how hard it is to ride a tt-bike is enlightening about how hard it actually is. Great video!
Freddie has got too good. I used to watch him to feel better about myself now I feel worse!
Freddie is amazing. Best addition to the channel. Really inspired me to do better
270 W FTP ??
We need another beginner 🥲
But, keep Freddie around to see his progress
I guess here it's more about the technique as well...like he didn't know how to pace
That’s probably about 2.5W/kg or less for him, which is fit beginner territory
@@dudefella420 yeah, I'm at 2.3 W/kg having taking cycling seriously for 8 months now, and I don't have those big legs he has. They're pretty good numbers for a beginner, but still a beginner.
@@serdiezv i forgot he has massive body .. but still very impressive .. also technique is important too when on tt bikes
@@DhimaRider agree. I see people with TT bikes where I live, and they lose a lot of power because they can't control the pedal thrust properly and there's a lot of swinging. Technique is key so you get the most out of every watt you put out.
You should have introduced a fourth contender for the category _"sure, how hard can it be: you never forget how to ride a bike."_ 😁🚲
Can we get a Blake vs Hank rematch using TT bikes? A 10 minute and 20 minute effort would be interesting
Great video! As someone getting into cycling, preparing for first time trial, this really helps for context. It's hard to train for something without knowing that context. It helps to see the difference between being fit and racing. You guys are all winners.
Hope your tt goes well
Ollies weaknesses: getting dropped 😂
You forgot to add being really likeable and a great presenter to his strengths though 👌
You will need a new beginner soon😂big up Freddie
Wonder how much faster Freddie would have gone if he hadn't kept talking to the camera.
3 milliseconds :)
And a bike fit
Loved that! Weetabix comparison is spot on, made me LOL. Well done Freddie, not so much of a beginner now you are!
This series is great! More of these please!
Well done to all three of you, great stuff
Well done Freddie, great time. Please can you lay the ground work for a "Freddie tries Cyclo-cross"
Could also try bringing Freddie on gmbn if he's interested
Love seeing more of Freddie! Especially as a guy who is similarly sized. The thing I noticed the most in watching all three guys go around was Richard's efficiency of motion. He didn't have any extra or unnecessary movement in his body at all, and his pedal stroke was so smooth. Freddie had a lot of extra motion that wasn't going into moving the bike forward, and Ollie had a bit of that, too. I suppose it helps that Richard has spent tons more time on the TT bike.
Love the videos with Freddie. More please
Freddie is the most relatable guest GCN has had. Nice seeing a fellow larger cyclist
Can ollie drop a video on gcn about his hair care routine? It looks magnificent.
'drop' a video. Huehue
This is great, would love to see more videos that address us newbies and people on the fence about cycling
Loved this. Great video
Love seeing Freddie back! Fist time trial and averaged over 20 MPH! I am happy when I hit 20mph, which is usually in a downhill. I would like to know what Freddie’s training is like. He has made massive progress in a short time. :)
1. Beginner
2. 270W FTP
Pick one.
He’s a big lad and I reckon probably weighs around 90kg, so 3w/kg average. That’s the same as an 70kg rider having a 210w ftp which would be considered a beginner ftp
@@joshustaran-anderegg9399 if power to weight would mean anything on a flat road.
GCN really bringing the madness these days! Loving it.
Mad respect boys! Been suscribed since the 20.000 subs!
Freddie looks like how I imagine I would look like riding a time trial bike.
The claps when Freddie was coming in 😂
Glad to see Freddie having so much fun on the TT bike. I love how fast you feel when you're really givin' it in aTT position, really enjoyable part of cycling if you ask me!
As for my 10mi pb, i'm still only just under 30 minutes!!
More of these please
Feel like Freddie (THE Peoples Champion) should get a challenge he can win, like who can do the most bicep curls of a bike
Or who can pump a tire to 100psi the fastest.
Ollie did set a record here for best helmet hair ever. It’s on video so it should be good enough for Guinness. I’m sure Dan Lloyd is proud
Well done,Freddie! Definitely bring him back for more.
Chapeau, Freddie. It's fun to see his improvement and great attitude.
Just thinking Freddie would be doing over 20mph for 10 miles amazing.
My calculation was 37.8km/h thats amazing! 😊
We need Freddy to do a century now. Bring Hank too, he loves adventures
Always great to see Freddie. Chapeau to Richard.
Great effort lads! Freddie is making good progress in all areas of riding👍👏
I’ve done hundreds of laps of combe in a race car.. did my OCD in watching you go round the wrong way! 😂😂
I was wonder that. Even the DB Max Tt goes the correct way !
I think its only fair that Ollie takes Freddie to a club 10 next!
Freddie my guy is here doing impressive work. Good job freddie! Hope to see you again in future videos of gcn.
Another brilliant idea put into practice here GCN. I think that all 3 of the riders were incredible. 25 mins for a beginner is a time that most keen average riders would be proud of !
It would be interesting to see a TT bike V a road bike for the gains and losses next for each rider.
Freddy is not a presenter but he deserves a video called “meet Freddy”
The fact that they didnt use Si for the pro is a missed opportunity, probably didnt want to make Ollie feel to bad.
Nice video! I've been wanting to do a test like this myself for a while
Good work men !!! Not a time trial person, but it’s a silky smooth way to ride a bike when you know what you are doing. Thanks for the video !!!
would be interesting to know how the beginner would have doen on a normal road bike - i.e does the kit make a bigger difference to a beginner than an experienced rider.
I think you should put Richard on a strict diet of pizza and chocolate for 2 months then repeat the test again. Now that would be interesting 😄
Enjoying this series of films and Freddies rapid progression. Give him some coaching, practice TT position, pacing, and let Freddie set a new time (10 weeks)
Freddie vs Blake in multiple power challenges! Great vid, well done Freddie
0:36
"For our beginner, ... ,Freddy, the people's champion!" - > FTP 270w
Myself, riding over 300k a week for over 5 years -> FTP 275w 😬😬 (it sucks being 60kg when you want to ride on flats)
lol i havent even eclipsed 200w after 3 years, just not built for it i guess
@@lexistential are you doing structured training though?
You likely punch a smaller hole into the air, so you have a higher W/Cda also,
@@LarsRR I do zwift training plans and follow a diet, I just don't build muscle right. something physiological, not a big deal though, still have fun with it. played soccer for about 12 years when I was younger and was pretty good at it but never really built muscle then either.
Freddie is clearly powerfully built and much heavier than 60kg. Wouldn't be great on climbs!
Freddie looks like he is the only one that has the arm muscles to lift a TT bike.
Think about all the watts wasted carrying all that extra muscle above the waist! That's how you know Freddie isn't a dedicated cyclist.
Great video boys, most inspirational. I thought my FTP of 260, after 6 months of improvement mainly using Zwift on my wattbike, was pretty good, so respect to Freddie. Cannot wait for Freddie to drop Ollie on one of the events they do in the future.....because everyone else has👍
Absolutely love these.
#sockgate No wonder the uci have rules on sock length. You knew who was going to win at the start when you could see the length of all the socks. Give Freddie the proper kit and he would of won 😉
More Freddie please keep the vids coming
270watt "beginner" nice
Love these videos 👍
Chapeau Freddie!
Nice video as always. I have a video suggestion. How much can we slow a pro cyclist down and speed up a beginner cyclist so they are riding at a similar pace? Get all the latest and fastest kit on the beginner rider while downgrading the kit available to the pro. See just how far the beginner improves his time and how much the drop off is for the pro while riding anything not built for speed....
That pass was like Indurain going past Armstrong..... when Indurain's blood was thicker than Lance's.
My all time favourite rider....
@@jagjeetsihra2862 my Dad first introduced me to Le Tour during the Indurain years, and what a great intro (with Cipolini for comic relief)
And Lance said I want what he's taking.
@@harislade6676 I almost smashed my TV when Lance finally admitted to cheating, but before that it was a teammate of his who wrote a book about coming clean and how they all cheated..
Here I was sacrificing so much time to watch EVERY stage of EVERY Tour de France that Lance rode in.
Biggest disappointment in Sport ever.
And to top it all he wasn't a nice person.
I mean you can cheat and probably still be nice to people, he was an a**hole.
Do you reckon Indurain cheated? I mean he had a resting heart rate of 28 bpm. That's supernatural....
It's a DQ for Richard with those long socks though...
not to mention the motor pacing he had
Very interesting series, I'll be watching more! Your "beginner" did very well, not only his first time in that horrible position BUT he also went first and it's hard to quantify what having someone to chase down can do for you as opposed to empty road or track.
Nice one Freddie, great effort!
I would like to see a serie where they help/make Freddy more "proffesional" and actually a decent cyclist. Love this channel!
Freddy already is a decent cyclist, and he’s getting better all the time!
Completely unfair comparison. Give Freddie an aero suit! 😂😂PD: He did amazing for a beginner.
and some disc wheels
Perhaps he was just all too aware of how f*****g ridiculous they look, having been modelled by Ollie and decided against it?!
I loved this. Watching GCN is like watching a Blue Peter show in chunks but with bikes.
Great job Freddie! Your crushing it!
