i would like you guys to train freddie for 10 weeks days try to gring up his power and do this chellenge again and also make a week on how much fast did freddie get in 10 weeks
Don't know about 99% but recently rode 30 miles at 15.6 mph 61 years young on a low geared track bike. That's got to be 200watts + 300feet elevation change. Also 17.3 mph over 20 miles with road crossings and no brakes. More hilly, a bit bigger gear. I did stop.
If Freddie averaged 240w, what was his power like at the beginning and where was it at the end. Freddie looks like he's built for the velodrome. Whole new challenge, 1k on a track.
That's kinda the point when people say all those power savings in top of the range products are ridiculous. They're thought for the people in the >400 watts, if I'm at 220 W FTP I'm not going to see any benefit, but then those products aren't aimed at me.
I think it would be interesting if there's a video about "Beginner with TT bike versus Pro TT Cyclist with road bike" on GCN. GCN, wish you guys could make a video about this.
It is fun to watch the improvements Freddie is making! I enjoy these videos because it gives hope to beginners but also shows how great the pros really are.
Great video! As someone getting into cycling, preparing for first time trial, this really helps for context. It's hard to train for something without knowing that context. It helps to see the difference between being fit and racing. You guys are all winners.
Love seeing more of Freddie! Especially as a guy who is similarly sized. The thing I noticed the most in watching all three guys go around was Richard's efficiency of motion. He didn't have any extra or unnecessary movement in his body at all, and his pedal stroke was so smooth. Freddie had a lot of extra motion that wasn't going into moving the bike forward, and Ollie had a bit of that, too. I suppose it helps that Richard has spent tons more time on the TT bike.
2 = 10^(3/10) = 3 dB 3 dB = 10*lg(2) dB = 2 dB is just a mathematical operator in the same sense % is. So a factor of two is the same as a 3 dB increase. (note: actually it's 3.01 dB)
Love seeing Freddie back! Fist time trial and averaged over 20 MPH! I am happy when I hit 20mph, which is usually in a downhill. I would like to know what Freddie’s training is like. He has made massive progress in a short time. :)
Would be interesting to have each of you compare yourself between a TT bike and normal road bike. How much is a pro, an amateur, a beginner gaining through a TT bike and a TT position compared to a road bike ride?
Freddie, do you want to start a YT channel for 100kg beginners? We could have videos like: "That hill over there? I'd rather cycle 6 miles around it." or "How much slower is avoiding hills altogether?"
Glad to see Freddie having so much fun on the TT bike. I love how fast you feel when you're really givin' it in aTT position, really enjoyable part of cycling if you ask me! As for my 10mi pb, i'm still only just under 30 minutes!!
Great video boys, most inspirational. I thought my FTP of 260, after 6 months of improvement mainly using Zwift on my wattbike, was pretty good, so respect to Freddie. Cannot wait for Freddie to drop Ollie on one of the events they do in the future.....because everyone else has👍
Freddie is insane.... he can't be "beginner" anymore in any future video, since he's better than most beginners will ever be, but you could give him a job as a presenter...
Enjoying this series of films and Freddies rapid progression. Give him some coaching, practice TT position, pacing, and let Freddie set a new time (10 weeks)
Chapeau Freddie! Nice video as always. I have a video suggestion. How much can we slow a pro cyclist down and speed up a beginner cyclist so they are riding at a similar pace? Get all the latest and fastest kit on the beginner rider while downgrading the kit available to the pro. See just how far the beginner improves his time and how much the drop off is for the pro while riding anything not built for speed....
Another brilliant idea put into practice here GCN. I think that all 3 of the riders were incredible. 25 mins for a beginner is a time that most keen average riders would be proud of ! It would be interesting to see a TT bike V a road bike for the gains and losses next for each rider.
This is ace - TT's are what I fell in love with in the mid 80's - I can still remember feeling like Rob after my first few. He did really, really well! I race up at Castle Combe a couple of times a week in the summer and it's a great place (apart from the wind)... and don't think we didn't notice that Rob was the only one given a mic during the effort - making him talk during it wasn't fair - you should have all had mics on ;-)

This was fun, nice work and good use of a closed race track and more of that should be done, like lots of classes out there at the same time, like Le Mans, with everyone striving for an overall something or class win or personal best. And is this the start of something good for Ollie, his comfortably finishing in the middle of the field? Not a win, but not a drop, either, and that wins. And I grin but seriously, this was great and huge props to Freddie rockin' the big ring for a fine finish and that is one of the joys of cycling, doing something akin to the best, if only for a moment or a climb or an event like this.
For a 10 mile TT, going from 30mins down to 25mins is hard. Going from 25 down to 21 is even harder, but going down to just over 19mins is incredible hard. It needs lot of power and an excellent aero position.
would be interesting to know how the beginner would have doen on a normal road bike - i.e does the kit make a bigger difference to a beginner than an experienced rider.
