So close! Epic effort 😎 I need some pointers on how to keep my head that low. I broke my C7 vertebrae (similar to Si I believe) a couple of years ago and now really struggle to hold my head that low and still see anything at all!
I come from the old days (1970's) when we all did the state championship (Texas) time trial on 'road bikes'. Aero bikes didn't exist. Form and style was everything. The TT route was very flat, no recognizable inclines. We rode 12.5 miles out and went around a cone in the middle of the road and went back to the starting line. Cycling jerseys were baggy by todays standards. Brake cables were looped out of the top of the brake lever hoods. Shifters were on the down tube. We all learned to ride in an aero tucked position. Each hand on the center of the handlebar next to the stem. Hold your forehead near you knuckles. We tried to keep our fore arms parallel to the ground and between our knees. No arm rest in those days. My best time was 25 miles in 64 minutes. Today when I ride with fellow enthusiasts down a hill I get into my tuck position and roll fast enough that the youngsters run out of gear trying to keep up. Air resistance is the common enemy to the bike and body.
No offence ment, only a witty long format comment, laughters intended: Thank you Gloucestershire cycling network for ever entertaining formidable content, well done lightning Si, Imperial is what it sounds like, it’s making people ride on the wrong side of the road with wrong side shifters, not adhering to metrics, side conventions as an attempt to close an empire and colonies to open market standards and ease of circulation. We like and appreciate all regional singularity form Gloucestershire and imperial Britania, Banksy, dan’s hair defiying the years, bromptons, keep up with great content and global ambitions regardless of the side of the road you ride on, could you please provide the rest of the non comonwealth parts of the globe imperial to metric subtitles in similar tittles ? Best witty regards
Really nice video! If you raise your head 1 cm above the body, and the head is around 15 cm across, and a sphere (head) has a Cd = 0.5, and rho = 1.2 kg/m^3, then that's +1 watt @ 30 mph, so the penalty is around 1 watt / cm. I think the helmet vents did you in, though :).
Can we all take a moment and pay our respects to Dr. Bridgewood for his academic accomplishments ie PhD in Chemistry, and his cycling accomplishment of riding 47.593 km in one hour.
Lots of talk of turtle's eads but no proposed technical solutions. Is there a UCI rule that bans upsidedown periscope glasses? It should be possible to design out the problem with a couple of pairs of mirrors.
I love how you Brits use miles because although we Americans get slammed for not using the "Metric System'", the fact is that "mile" is one syllable and "Ki - Lo - Me - Ter" is 4 syllables. Try another - Cen - Ti - Me - Ter or Inch. Try more, quart, pint, foot, ounce.... And how often do you convert Centimeters to Meters - the GREAT feature of metric system - NEVER, LOL! I'm glad you Brits hold on to the one syllable past! Great Video!
All this talk of good head and turtle head... And then Si says the following "As long as i can assume the position and take the pain" This is a family show? lol

With a bit more luck with the weather you'd have snuck in under 20... Now you have to do it again 😉 Also that's a really good CDa. Mine, in the drops, and with my best road kit, is about .27 and I think of myself as pretty aero.
What many are missing is that Si did this TT on last minute adjustments AND someone else’s bike. Given everything he learned and a couple weeks on an e-trainer and road to get his body to adapt to the position and do a few tweaks he’d be faster and more comfortable. Time in the position on that bike at speed is the key to a much quicker time. At some point with enough training a rider will “turn a corner” where the aero position clicks. Then it’s just good planning and execution and the fortunes of the day.

So close! Epic effort 😎
I need some pointers on how to keep my head that low. I broke my C7 vertebrae (similar to Si I believe) a couple of years ago and now really struggle to hold my head that low and still see anything at all!
they're so gatdamn funny "I don't wanna think about turtle heads right now Ollie" 7:16
Cheers! Great video!
I wish I could go that speed once (not very likely to ever happen)...
Brilliant, really enjoyed this video you will definitely get it next time ❤️🚴💯
No offence ment, only a witty long format comment, laughters intended:
Thank you Gloucestershire cycling network for ever entertaining formidable content, well done lightning Si,
Imperial is what it sounds like, it’s making people ride on the wrong side of the road with wrong side shifters, not adhering to metrics, side conventions as an attempt to close an empire and colonies to open market standards and ease of circulation.
Still so proud of you Si! Still amazing. I blame the weather and nerves.
I would really love to see what Si could do if fully kitted out with latest tt bike, kit and a block of tt specific training. :)
I thought SI was a modern form of the Metric unit system. However, I didn't realise SI is also the unit for 2 Seconds. 😂
If I want pure speed, I would go for the motorbike...the reason why I love cycling is that I just want to ride my bike!
Another great video.. and THANKS VERY MUCH for mentioning Denmark, at last...
Thanks to Si talking about "pulling the short straw" now I have suspicion about Hank cutting his own straw.
I can imagine quite a few owners of similarly priced and specced equipment getting the excuses out as to why they can't come close.
Or riding TT rigs and still not getting close.
370W FTP is professional level. I went up to 315-320 one season. Adding 50w to that, i don't think i ever could no matter how much i trained.
Refusing to live in the real world, I see........ you'll regret it down the line. Don't be a laughing stock
Just imagine going 60 kmh and hearing others being amazed of how fast you pasted them, hahaha
2:36: “Honey! Come look at this. Peter Parker is getting biketips from Rob Stark”.
Chin up, Si. That was a very impressive effort indeed. Every credit to you.
All this talk of good head and turtle head... And then Si says the following "As long as i can assume the position and take the pain" This is a family show? lol
"That's with a good head"? Very funny reaction from the lads.
Totally 💯 well done 👍 I get the two seconds shortage 😩😩.. I have done that numerous times in QOM 🙌👍😊🤩… abs YES 👍… it’s a bummer having to go again .. I have faith Si that you will concur it 🚴🚴🚴🚴✅🙌
Well done Speedy Si 👏, thats an amazing effort/time. Legend 🙌
I guess it was the sticker 😁 We love Ollie 💙
With a bit more luck with the weather you'd have snuck in under 20... Now you have to do it again 😉
Also that's a really good CDa.
Si, you are a freaking beast!!! what was the power output??? would you do again on that sick Orbea???
Awesome ride. 30mph Well Done.
