This song gets everyone moving. Big part of me being a kid, sitting in the back as my mum drove us all around listening to the radio. True story: my mum was a single mum with two girls and we didn’t have a lot of money, but you could have fooled me as my mum has the richest imagination. She would yell “radio time” since we couldn’t afford one at home, so she would load us all into the car and we’d have sing-a-long to the radio mini-road trips, stop at some park for a picnic lunch she had made and it’s still one of the best memories I have. Shout out to all the single mums hustling with their imaginations....you are the best!

Then into the coffin before daylight for a refreshing sleep.

@@muzikkification -- Really? If that were the case, then they should have been more selective with their verbiage. Nonetheless, 'underappreciated greatness' in any sense is not something correctly applied to the response the band has received over the last 50 years. It sounds like the kind of thing a millennial would say.
Steely Dan didn't innovate the melding of rock, soul and jazz, they just happened to do it very well--some would say better than most.

So, someone appreciated them enough to put them into the Hall of Fame even though the mainstream music world at the time they were inducted had their "WTF?" surprised moment as the then pop music people didn't even know who they were for the most part!

Yes its Peg they are singing and Michael Macdonald's falsetto voice is in the background. Michael Macdonald was a member of Steely Dan's band but he left the band and joined The Doobie Brothers in 1975.While with The Doobie Brothers he wrote and performed several hit songs one of them being "What a Fool Believes " which he co-wrote with Kenny Loggins (who wrote and performed "Footloose ").Kenny Loggins came out with his version of the song five months before Michael Macdonald and The Doobie Brothers came out with their version in January 1979. Of course Michael Macdonald and The Doobie Brothers' version was the bigger hit.

The whole 3 Ft. High & Rising is a masterpiece!! When that dropped in the late 80s in the middle of the Gangster Rap peak, it was such a breath of fresh air... you could never make that album again today without paying a zillion dollars for all the samples they used.. Paul's Boutique by the Beastie Boys is another album came out about the same time that was a genius use of a wide array of sampling. Both of those I still play today front to back..

The used the top musicians of the day to realize their music. Background vocals included Michael McDonald, Valerie Simpson, Clydie King, Patti Austin. The had the brilliant Bernard "Pretty" Purdie on drums on many cuts. The guitarists were people like Hugh McCraken, Jeff Beck, Jeff "Skunk" Baxter...and on and on. Fantastic players. Many times they would splice the best bits from each player to create a single instrument track. Becker and Fagen were perfectionists.
