I’m about to build a 1/8 nitro so interested in your jig - did you consider that the 2 extra pieces on the top could be cut as part of the 4” uprights rather than add-ons so they would be perfectly aligned vertically? Then 2 cutouts on the top flat bit. Once I get started I’ll send some video of my jig.
Yes I considered that, but I like the flexibility of the removable uprights. I can use one jig for any position canard and any picklefork depth boat this way! Perfect for an inherently lazy guy who doesn't want to build separate jigs. I hate clutter too, and these things take up so much space
Congrats, Scott, once again. Quick question. If you intend to build a recurved bottom (like the underside of a wing), how would you build the jig? Thanks, in advance.
Huh... A recurved bottom would probably react wildly over water. I wouldn't suggest you try it, but any shape you want can be cut into the uprights on the jig. Laying a curved surface would be the difficult part... Maybe multiple thin layers of plywood? Heck I don't know. If you try it, let me know what happens!
M5 Performance Hydroplanes - Scott Meyers thanks a lot, Scott! I was wondering how would I do if I wanted a truly wing profile in the tunnel parts (I mean, not a wing with a flat downside but an asymmetrical profile, like NACA 2412). By the way, I just bought a 30.5” ML Boatworks you mentioned in one of the videos. Eagerly waiting for it. All the best. Take care.
I think the wing shape is exactly what the big boat designers were attempting to replicate with the center sections of their boats for many years. The trouble began when the boats got fast enough that the design actually began to work and they all started flipping. Especially in the case of RC boats, we have so much speed relative to the boat's size and weight that you really should be trying to reduce lift, not encourage it. When it comes to graphics I can only recommend Wes at Wesley's Custom Graphics. There is another well-known RC boat graphics supplier, but I cannot say publicly the things I'd like to say about him so please just trust me... if you want great, honest service, use Wes; www.wesleyscustom.com/2000s-1
These last few boats I've built are models of real boats that were designed by John Staudacher. I've always admired the uniqueness of his hulls, so it's been fun building them. Once you've done this for a while you begin to identify the work of different designers very quickly. John's boats are very angular with lots of squared edges and just look less rounded overall... A very simplistic approach. In smaller classes he was always very successful, but less so in the unlimiteds.

M5 Performance Hydroplanes - Scott Meyers surely! Thanks! All the best.

А чертежи где?
You keep mentioning a specific design you use by a individual (don't know how to spell there name, lol) where do I find those designs?
These last few boats I've built are models of real boats that were designed by John Staudacher. I've always admired the uniqueness of his hulls, so it's been fun building them. Once you've done this for a while you begin to identify the work of different designers very quickly. John's boats are very angular with lots of squared edges and just look less rounded overall... A very simplistic approach. In smaller classes he was always very successful, but less so in the unlimiteds.
But dont get it wet it will swell up big time
What do you think of this a a first time kit? www.blazermarine.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=100
The link doesn't work but I've heard the Blazer Marine kits are very good so I say go for it!
Must of looked now for 2 weeks to find files for one of these to cut parts for one of on the cnc router. Swear to god at this point they don't exist kind of disappointing. Way to lazy to figure all the parts out! Lol
You can do it!
