@@mlaff5002 It's designed for 1/4 inch. A 7 1/4 inch circular saw blade is not big enough for 1/2 inch. You'd need a 10 inch saw which is very expensive.
i found your channel looking for plywood scarfing ideas and finding this video. Great video and nice channel. I subscribed and looking forward to watching your progress.
Great jig. I just started building my Tango 13 and this was a great EASY design. With the price of marine grade mahogany I didn't want to make any errors. This did a much better job then using a router.
Great idea!! I am concerned with the awkward angle the saw has to be held at. I have redrawn the jig rotated 20 degrees, so that the ply is at an angle that suits normal posture. I have a track saw, so I will fit a suitable track guide cleat to the jig. I am building a Sassafras 12 canoe & the plans call for full 4mm scarfed sheets, you have solved all my problems. Thanks for the post.
That works for 1/4" ply but a 7 1/4" skil saw does not have enough blade depth to scarf say 3/8" ply at what many would argue is a min. ratio for planking.
Just as I said in the video. You'd need a 10 inch saw for thicker wood with a system like this but 10 in skill saws are expensive and hardly worth it unless you're in a boat building business. This is perfect for the 1/4 in ply which is all I needed it for.
There’s probably a way to jig an electric planer to create a scarfe on sheet material. Mabe use an angled block on the Left-hand side of the planet with a running board to keep it in line.
Hi John, good luck with your Tango. Are you going to be video taping and posting your progress on RUclips? I'd love to see it. If you want a reference to help you along the way; my buddy Bubba just finished building and posting his Tango18 here: ruclips.net/channel/UCnK9z4SB-V95YBEAMAAMJoA
Looking for an easy good way to scarf. I think this is it. Thanks a lot.
You're welcome, worked great for me... Very quick!
How does it work on 1/2” plywood

Very good job and excellent explanation. Thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it! :-)
Excellent design. I'm trying this next time. Good job!
Thanks Saucy. I'm so excited to get going with it. I have about 12 sheets of ply to scarf and it will save so much time. :-)
Ahoy, Capt. Rainy! Looking good bro.. Thank you for walking me through that Scarfing cut Jig.. yes, I like it and will use it!
Thanks for watching Carvin. I appreciate it. This makes the scarfing so much easier. Now I just need a longer garage so I can scarf 3 together. :-)

That is awesome!
Consider wearing dust protection when cutting. That saw dust is bad news for lungs.
Great jig!
Glad you like the jig.

Just wondering how you measure and cut the 7.1deg cut. This looks really well made.
What size saw are you using? My seven and a quarter inch skill saw will only scarf two and a quarter inches.
7 1/4 as well. If you want to scarf any thinker ply you'll need a 10" saw.
