I agree with you but it is also not that hard to do some research on a brand before purchasing from it, especially if you’re doing it for a video that thousands of (young) people are going to see. I really like most of her videos but I hate all of her fast fashion halls. She has been doing them for years and although I understand it is sometimes more expensive to buy sustainable clothing, I am sure there are brands out there that are not that expensive and she could get get subscribers discount codes as she now has a huge audience. Not to mention thrifting. I think in these comments people have made it clear that they don’t really support this kind of content and I think it’s a good thing that everyone is trying to raise awareness. BUT she has to educate herself. Her saying a few words at the beginning of a video is not going to make up for it in my opinion. Not to mention that even if she then donates most of the clothes, they have already caused a lot of harm both to the workers and to the environment. Tatiana Ringsby makes really great videos on the subject.

She probably didn’t do the research for this brand because it’s so popular and a lot of people have been requesting it. I’m not saying that that’s okay I’m just saying that’s probably what she was thinking. I don’t think she had any bad intentions about posting this, she just wanted to respond to a lot of the requests she was getting. Letting her know is okay but bullying her character and being rude isn’t.

Love how everyone is complaining about her not promoting sustainable fashion in this video but most of you commenting probably don't even buy sustainable fashion yourself. Most people can't afford it.
Exactly! 👏 I remember that I once went shopping at primark and a women at her 50s came up to me to lecture me about the clothings there, but when I told her that most stores on that shopping street (no matter how expensive or cheap) aren't any better at all, she rolled her eyes and left. Yeah, like, hey I'd LOVE to only buy sustainable and ethical fashion, but I'm lucky if I can pay all of my bills each month, let alone afford to spend that money on clothes. Some of us have no choice but to get by on a Walmart/Target/Shein/etc. budget. Just a cruel reality of the world we live in.
I agree that fast fashion is a necessary evil, but it’s one thing to buy it because it’s your only option vs publicly promoting an evil brand even if she doesn’t fully endorse it. If you go through the comments you’ll see a lot of people saying “I’m going to place an order now !” I love mia and her content but I think we’re all disappointed that she didn’t do the research to learn the entire controversy around shein and the harm this and other companies has done. Even more so she has given money to this brand and similar ones such as wish multiple times, The issue isn’t about not promoting sustainable brands, it’s the lack of explaining why these brands are unethical and shouldn’t be financially support that is the issue.

Im all for the environment to be better and for clothes to be made in a healthier way and for workers to be paid fairly. If I could make the world perfect it would all change. But unfortunately it’s not that easy. You can’t stop fast fashion and the making of unsustainable clothing anytime soon just by refusing to purchase it. And getting mad at someone else for it is a waste of time too especially when everyone does it anyways. In reality most people can’t afford to shop for sustainable clothing. If there’s gonna be a real solution for this, it needs to be realistic for basic people and for the basic consumer
Taking 10-20 more mins. looking for a secondhand or sustainable option can save lives or even just messaging these fast fashion brands for accountability isn't hard considering the effect it has on people's lives (especially as someone coming from a third world country)
Thrifting isnt always an option for a lot of people due to the fact its limited in sizes, and not everyone can afford to buy "sustainable" clothing because it's often overpriced. While fast fashion is horrid for the environment, Mia doesnt make the videos to promote fast fashion or deny it's been harmful on social media, if anything she goes out of the way to address otherwise, she makes these videos to review the quality of product which is genuinely helpful to those who can only to afford to shop fast fashion or online at these stores such as Shein, Rome, forever21, H and M, etc.
If thrifting works for you that's great, if you can afford to buy sustainable clothing thats also amazing!! But please dont try to "cancel" Mia/anyone about where they buy their clothes or deem her a bad person for reviewing them for us.
I'm just grateful she goes out of her way to give her fans content and reviews they are asking for.
Also telling lower income people they should only buy second hand if they can’t afford sustainable or ethical is extremely elitist. I’m sorry but poor people deserve new clothes too. Fast fashion is a product of rich corporations not a product of poor people. People need to stop putting the responsibility on low income families and start putting it on corporations.
She's actively helping to fight this as well by reviewing things so there are less wasteful purchases, which creates less demand for these items.

All and all I think it's good that people are more aware about all these ethical/unethical stuff. But every changes takes time. And while all ethical brands are still super pricey you can only expect a few amount of people that can and willing to pay for it. Same concept as meat and such from organic farms. It's not super easy to get hands on those in some countries. And even if it is not everyone is ready to pay those extra bucks.
And yes, poor people deserves new clothes too! That's so true. Imagine wearing second hand clothes for the rest of your life. I don't think anyone will love that idea (including those comments that keep mentioning it). Like people need to be more realistic. You can't just expect everyone to change completely in such a short amount of time just because it's "the ideal way" for the world.
Also mia doesn't just do fast fashion hauls, there's a bunch of time she bought stuff from expy ethical brands, and lots of time shes doing some sewing and such to transform old clothes.

Hot take: People who claim that others shouldn't support Shein often come at it from a classist perspective. 'Sustainable clothing' is often extremely expensive, and is unattainable for many people who don't have the income to drop $100 on a single piece of clothing. Not everyone has a ton of disposable income.

Sustainable does not necessarily means expensive ! You can get good and cheap second-hand clothing in thrift stores, on depop or else ! ^^ I mostly buy second-hand clothing now, in france we have an app like depop, for instance someone sold me a skirt that still had the price tag on it !! It was originally 25€ and she sold it to me for 5€ !! That was very affordable. And as another example I found a nice long sleeve shirt in a thrift store for 4€. There always are greater options ! ;)

I think if people spoke up more, more companies would be compelled to create ethical/sustainable clothing. I think most don't give a thought (I never did until about a year ago) about where their clothing comes from or why it is so inexpensive.

Could you possibly do a haul on sustainable clothing? Many RUclipsrs focus on fast fashion and I would like to see more environmentally conscious hauls. Granted, hauls aren't sustainable but it a popular genre! I don't mean to come off as rude, just a suggestion.

you spoke my mind! instead of promoting fast fashion as a option for cheap clothes, she could be showing us ethical and sustainable products, to try to combat fast fashion! also the hauls genre just feeds into consumerism, and if she does a haul for sustainable stuff, that would directly contradict the 'sustainable' aspect of it.
I think a video showcasing how to build a starter sustainable wardrobe would be interesting. It IS expensive and not accessible to everyone, but if someone could get really nice quality basics/classic pieces, that's a good start. For trendy items, especially if you're straight size, you should look into buying them secondhand.

I get it that most western people associate the "swastika" sign with the nazis, but it has been a positive sign in the Hindu and Buddhism religions for CENTURIES. Not defending shein, just think people should know that.
They shouldn’t be using religious symbols in general
the problem was that they didn't advertise it as a religious necklace (same with the prayer mats- they called them decorative rugs), while the true meaning behind the swastika is peace- you can't just completely ignore the negative meanings behind it. Especially without clarification and knowing a lot of their customers are from western cultures. The nazi swastika is also turned slightly, but a lot of people don't know the differences. I can't say if they truly had bad intentions, but you can't hide behind ignorance when you're a huge corporation.

I just want to point out that Shein is a Chinese company. Them selling the necklace was definitely related to Buddhism. I see them all the time on clothes here (I live in China). Also, keep in mind that Chinese people don't find as many things offensive as we do. There is a BIG cultural barrier. Largely because they are ignorant to a lot of other countries culture. And no, it isn't easy for them to "educate themselves" because their media is different. Because they sell to an international audience they're going to continue to face criticism in the future. The truth is, all brands have skeletons in their closet. Your standards on fair work are also very different than Chinese people. And child labor is definitely illegal here (I don't know why everyone thinks there are still sweatshops). Everything is not black and white people. Stay educated, but also understand that foreign owned companies are catering to an audience that they don't understand. Agree to disagree, but that's how I feel.

@@nonoticarly8778 in Asia Swastikas are not immediately associated with Hitler/Nazis. I live in India and there are swastikas everywhere. The Western perspective is of course negative but there is an entire half of the world where Swastikas are not viewed negatively. And Shein ships to these countries as well.
I totally agree with you. The swastika symbol is associated with buddhism and Hinduism. The symbol the nazis used was a bit different, its tilted. Shein caters for the Asian market as well so they were not being purposely naive to the western view of that symbol.

All these comments complaining are going overboard. I understand that yes Mia should’ve researched more about the company and how corrupt they are but at the same time it’s her subscribers who requested this video. If she didn’t make this video people would keep commenting and requesting. Also to address the fast fashion problem, as said by other people, sustainable fashion are often way too expensive. Usually people who buy cute trendy clothes are pretty young, which usually means they don’t get paid much. So they have no choice but to turn to cheap fast fashion clothing. People also have to acknowledge that unethical fashion is pretty much everywhere. It’s really unavoidable unless you can afford really pricey items.

here's the thing y'all: if mia only bought clothing from sustainable/ethical brands, you would complain that her content isn't relatable because even if she can afford to shop it most of her viewers can't. that being said, while purchasing from brands that use prison or child labor (or laborers who are enslaved), or are generally considered "fast fashion" isn't ideal from an environmental or ethical standpoint, it's unfortunately all that most people can afford (im speaking as an american, but im sure this is true for the majority of countries). it's the duty of corporations and other capitalist agents to make an effort to become not only ethical and sustainable but AFFORDABLE for their consumers. this is a larger issue than just a RUclipsr (who is largely unproblematic) showing an unsponsored video of an affordable albeit unethical clothing haul.
If people can afford Shein, they can afford clothing on Poshmark, Depop and thrift stores. Affordability is not a good enough excuse anymore to support these companies and until they feel the heat from declining sales, they won't do anything to become more ethical and sustainable. You have to hit them where it hurts... the bottom line.
What about thrifting (using stores or apps or websites) or making your own clothing from scratch? Or doing a clothing swap with friends and family? Those are all accessible, affordable, and ethical.
@@jenniviiv all the CUTE clothes on poshmark and depop are like smalls and mediums. The only clothes that come in my size are fucking ugly shit your grandma would wear, and thrift stores are even worse. Not to mention a lot of sellers on depop are just drop shippers, which is even worse because they're marking up the price of Ali express type clothing that costs like $5 by like 200%. Don't shame people for not being able to afford to live a sustainable and ethical lifestyle all the time.

I can't afford to drop $50-100+ on pieces, especially pants, which my thighs will obliterate in about a year?? All the threat stores in my very large city cost the same as brand new clothing, despite alway being stained, ripped, discoloured and in generally terrible quality. Poshmark doesn't carry clothing my style in my size, and all I see on there is ugly ass Laura and Suzy Shier type clothes, and my phones too old to even be compatible with depop.
