Pro tip from a bridal sales person: If you have a small stain on your dress, use a qtip and horse shampoo! Spray the dress with some distilled water so it is lightly damp and work the shampoo in gently until the stain lifts. Use a hairdryer on a low setting and feather out your movements so it dries nicely and leaves no trace! ❤️

I've worked in a few wedding boutiques. I was the person that would take the new gowns out of the shipping boxes, steam them (to get out the wrinkles) and hang them on the sample racks. I got a look at the invoices which were in the boxes--Bridal shops make a 500% markup compared to what they pay wholesale. Considering that most gowns are made overseas in sweatshops, a gown that might cost $200.00-$500.00 U.S. dollars to make, will end up costing you $8,000.00 to $10,000.00 once everyone gets their piece of the pie. Do yourself and your bank account a favor and buy used or through online auctions like you did here.

Or buy ethically made dresses. You will get better quality fabrics, and more unique designs. Most ethical bridal brands are also female lead, so you will also be supporting a female run business! Win win!

Age does not matter when you still have a youthful figure like her mom. If you are over 40 and overweight or over 40 and have the C-section gut, you do need to stay away from certain styles as they can make you look much older than you are. the good news is there are many gowns made for women with not perfect figures that have a youthful vibe. It is not like it used to be where everything looked like it was more for a great grandma than the 40-year-old bride.
@@mermaiddiyartist8119 Just because we can does not mean we should. I have seen many a 35-year-old bride with a c-section gut and bit overweight squeeze into something they shouldn't. The result was they looked 50. Not true of this mom though. she looked quite youthful in those gowns. I know she has to be past 40 even if she had her at 16. I think they actually made her look younger; she could pass for mid 30's, but then she still has a figure of a 25-year-old. If you are savvy, you work with what you got to look better than you actually do.
That is why when you go to dress shopping, if you are not totally sold on a style look at different shapes because it'll either be eye opening to what's missing, or it'll take away doubts about what you don't want.
@@peachygal4153 let’s face it, the both of them have “sample size” bodies. Mia must be a size 6, Mom’s a size 10 (or at least a wedding dress size ten). I haven’t been Mia’s size for 40 years (about age 10…, and left Mom’s size 5 years later). 😂😂
Imagine if this was Mia's way of planning a surprise recommitment ceremony for her parents. & Momma looks so gorgeous in all the dresses.
I feel like that would be weird. Like imagine just getting your parents together and going “surprise! He’s a party to make you recommit your life to each other and promise to be together to death!” Like my parents really love each other but I think it would be weird to force them into committing their lives together again. I feel like that’s something people need to plan for themselves otherwise it kinda feels like it’s just telling them that they’re gonna be trapped in this wedding forever. Like even if a two people who were dating really loved each other and wanted to get married eventually, you wouldn’t just throw them a surprise wedding. You need to let them do it of their own accord otherwise they will feel forced.

Better than selling or thrift store type of thing because anyone can just buy the items for cheap and that takes away from someone that could need it more! Non profit organizations/shelters will often give people in need items rather than a thrift store that tends to jack up prices! Or some people just can’t even afford $100 for their kids prom dress, stuff like that

I used to own a bridal shop. The commercial stain remover we use was just repackaged expensive stuff you get at the Dollar Tree usually called Awesome Orange or other variations of that name, usually in an opaque clear bottle and smells citrus-like. It will take almost anything out and does not stain the dress.

Fellow Canadian, long-time subscriber here! So a little backstory, I'm already married but my husband and I had to have a City Hall wedding due to extraneous circumstances. And while I'm so happy to be his wife (3 years this month!), I was always a little heartbroken that we never got to celebrate our love in the way we always wanted to.
I wore a white summer dress that didn't fit well and didn't feel that pretty in, I didn't get to 'walk down the aisle', we didn't even get to exchange vows. Now that it's safer to have larger gatherings, we plan to have an official wedding, with seating charts, a first dance, and all the people we love.
I haven't had a chance to try on any wedding dresses at this point, and honestly, I'm hesitant because I'm uncomfortable with the weight I am now, but something absolutely struck me with that last dress. Maybe it was the way Mama Mia absolutely glowed in it or the fact that it had pockets, but I was smitten.
If for whatever reason you find yourself willing to part with the last dress, I'd be so incredibly honoured to wear it on our special day (I'm roughly a size 20-22 in wedding dresses). If not, I completely understand but would really appreciate if you'd be willing to share the name and designer of the dress if you happen to know it.

Mia you should have a warehouse to store all these dresses/clothes you get & have an event a couple times a year where underprivileged teens (prom dresses) and brides come and pick a dress!
I’m not gonna lie I love the plain satin one 🤩 I had a very similar dress for my wedding and will never regret the simplicity but timeless elegant look

There weren't mermaid dresses in these boxes, though, they were fit-and-flare style dresses :) True mermaid dresses start flaring out way lower, below the knees. (yes... I may have seen way too many "Say yes to the dress" videos xD )
Actually, a mermaid dress is a type of fit-and-flare. A mermaid flares at or below the knew, and fit-and-flare can flare out at any point below the waistline. Another type of fit-and-flare would be a trumpet, which flares around mid-thigh.

I'm pretty sure the bug/shell thing is what we call woodlice in the UK. When they die, they kind of ball up like that and you often find them in old boxes/suicases etc exactly like that.

I bought a sample dress for my wedding at the bridal boutique for $125. They would sell those discounted when the dresses were no longer being made/discontinued. I was pretty happy since I didn't have the money for the 1k plus gowns they had to order from and the dress was pretty. It's a great option for people who want a beautiful dress but can't afford to order one that's still being manufactured.

my mother bought a sample dress waaay back when Dept stores carried bridal. she was not going to spend a bunch or have a major shindig for her wedding the sample dress fit her ( she was probably smaller than what a zero would be today) so that's what she went with. it was big puffy sleeves, high neck with lace - very "in" in the 70s!
@@joyfuljaj my mom did that too! Idk if it was from a boutique or department store? But, she paid $100 and the only problem was the sleeves were SO tight she could not bend to eat at the reception! So my dad had to feed her and she fed him. Everyone thought they were SOOO in love!😂
@@cheryl-lynnmehring8606 That's so cute about your parents feeding each other. My mother bought hers at a dept store called J.B White which may have later become Dillards I think. She weighed around 90 lbs when she got married, so finding a dress that fit with not need for alterations was a plus. She had been through a lot in the past year or so, so she didn't want to take a long time planning a wedding. I later found out a lot of couples in their age range had short engagements compared to today's practices.
They should've shown at least one dress to Papa Maples!

I used to work in a wedding gown sample store. We would sell gowns that were discontinued samples from our sister stores. Sometimes there would be minor damage or stains on the gowns, but bridal shops try to take really good care of their samples. We would tell our brides to take the gowns to a dry cleaner before the wedding and ask for a spot cleaning treatment. Overall buying sample gowns is a really good way to get a beautiful gown for a discounted price.

I bought my wedding dress on Saturday! And it was actually a sample. The boutique had a Sample Sale and sold all their samples 30% off. So samples don't always end up in one of those boxes but are sold to brides-to-be. I LOVE my dress and I am so happy I got a good discount!
