There’s a lot of trust and mutual respect there, which makes their manipulated personalities at the cabin so stark in contrast-very watered down to “just horny and air-headed.”
"You gotta keep the customers happy..."...the customers are the old gods...YOU (the audience) are the customers...YOU are the old gods...mind blown 🤯😈👊🔥😂
The practical creature effects in this film were done by a company started by Heather Langenkamp, who played Nancy in A Nightmare on Elm Street. She didn't pursue acting much after that film, but clearly wanted to keep working on horror movies in some capacity.

I know I’m late but fun fact left 4 dead had a planned dlc for cabin in the woods but it got scrapped but if you look closely in the showing of all monsters in their cubes you can see the witch tank boomer and haunter in there to
Regarding Chris Hemsworth's role in this and Thor.. Technically Thor came out first, but this movie was filmed first, it just took longer to come out. He filmed Cabin in the woods in 2009, Filmed thor in 2010, Thor released in 2011, Cabin released in 2012.
One of the key bits is that the staff mislabel who is the Fool and who is the Virgin. There are a couple of throwaway lines early on that tells you Marty is the Virgin and Dana is the Fool. When the staff think Marty has been killed, they release the container for the Fool and you get a rumble different from when they release the container for the Whore. Presumably this is the Old God not accepting the Fool sacrifice - firstly because they broke the wrong one -since Marty isn't the Fool - and secondly if he had died it would be in the wrong order - since the Virgin should be last (or maybe even survive). The staff completely miss that they got different reactions. Instead they continue saying Marty is the Fool right to the end, including the boss telling Dana she has to kill Marty to save the world. However, to save the world, Marty would have had to kill Dana instead, so even if Dana had done as the boss said it still wouldn't have saved them.
My favorite anecdote about this movie is that before it was released in theaters they did a preview screening for test audiences and afterwards they had a Q&A with the director. One of the questions from the audience was "Is there going to be a sequel?" The director replied "Did you see the end of the movie???"
Another scene that is fantastic on a second or third viewing is when they are in the basement looking at all the objects. You can try to identify which monstrosity each object will summon. Other movies hinted at are hellraiser (the guy with the saw blades in his head) and of course IT with the clown
There's a game that seems inspired by this movie called Lobotomy Corporation, where you have cell blocks with monsters and you're scientifically investigating them. Sometimes they get out. Sometimes they murder your entire research and development. And sometimes there's a giant red button.
This was such a great reaction. Love the fact that you can tell the jumps and scares (from husband & wife) are real and not fake or forced. Not only that but you two actually enjoy what you watch too. Keeps me coming back for more. 👍
it has nothing to do with Cabin in the Woods in style or theme, but i gotta recommend, The Babadook! .. it's the best familial horror film since The Shining, imo.. takes the haunted house story and twists it into something completely unique.. more suspense than gore, like zero gore actually, and doesn't rely very heavily on jump scares.. tangentially, my favorite Jesse Williams role is Marcus in Detroit Become Human, a true choose your own adventure video game that was a Sony exclusive but I believe you can play it on PC now.. you guys should play it for the channel! it's basically an interactive movie, and unlike Telltale Games where choice is just an illusion, DBH actually has wildly different endings, you can even make decisions where characters die and that's it for their part of the story.. all characters can die or all can make it to the end! pretty sure it's the first game of it's kind to actually pull off the player choice mechanic..
Yeah that first time she went "dammmn" , it was a very primal humorous exclamation that made me laugh and then she almost did it again later! It's the little things that make me come back for their reviews!
I saw this movie for the firs time like 5 years ago, saw someone saying how great it was, so I decided to watch it, without researching what it was about, to avoid any spoilers. The experience was awesome, today it's one of my favorite horror movies of all time. The name is very deceiving, I keep saying to people to watch it, and they always say "maybe I'll watch sometime", but I think the name make them feel like it's just another horror flick, so they actually never watch it haha!
Such a funny movie. And they encouraged everyone to go into watching it in theaters as blindly as possible. I knew all about the movie, but I got a couple of buddies to see it without knowing; one of my favorite theater experiences.
This movie got some Evil Dead Vibe ...like the cabin design and the basement, cant believe Chris Hemsworth acted in this movie before Thor was in production which made him famous, luckily he took that movie made his career high till now
As this is Joss Whedon movie there's many call backs to Buffy and Angel the series as well as other films. What with the 'ancient ones' needing to be appeased, and the 'monster' storage facility that could be straight out of Buffy season 4. A great film that at the time confused/annoyed a lot of the traditional horror audience. Personally I loved it then and I still love it now. :)
What's interesting is that some of the actors you see in this movie have made appearances in other Joss Whedon projects, TV shows and movies, that he has directed or produced like Firefly, Serenity, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, The Avengers, Much To Do About Nothing, Angel, and Dollhouse.
I would add Dr. Horrible's sing-along as well as his run on x-men comics. It really sucks that so many of projects are great, when he turned out to be such a dirt-bag. Interesting note is that alot of his most acclaimed work (this, firefly, and others) are his ideas and he produces but, are written and directed by someone else. Often Tim Minear?
@@shawnje3072 Joss writes a lot of his stuff. On Buffy the running theme was that when a Buffy writer got complimented for a line in one of their episodes, the line was always written by Joss. I remember how excited Jane Espenson was when someone mentioned a line she actually wrote. This happened mostly on Buffy. Angel not as much as Buffy was filming at the same time. Tim Minear didn't do that on Angel as David Greenwalt was the ahowrunner. Joss did read and maje noteson each script. Tim is an absolutely fantastic writer. He wrote S2 Ep2 "Are You Now or Have You Ever Been" over a weekend and his first draft was a good 75% of the shooting draft. David Greenwalt (showrunner and nicest guy) was jealous of how fast Tim could write. David was much more methodical. If Joss was listed as writer, he wrote it. He was also a script doctor for many movies like Speed, "You're fired! You're all fucking fired!" He wrote the original script for Toy Stiry so he is actually an Oscar Nominee from that. One of his unused bits was repurposed for Toy Story 2, where they use Rex as a battering ram.

The scariest part of this film is how de-sensitised everyone has become to watching the horrific murders, seeing them taking bets on how it'll happen, drinking champagne while the "final girl" is being attacked etc: to the point where if the "virgin" had died there at the side of the water, her death would have gone completely unobserved and uncared of by those who made it happen, until it is actually happening to them, then it's completely different. It is all clearly a commentary on how de-sensitised we the audience have become to horror films, while still being a total love-letter to horror. It's totally brilliant in every way! Great reaction guys, love your review, thank you!
This is a great satire of the genre and still holds itself together seriously well enough. Only too bad yall probably havent seen all the referenced movie monsters already to catch em.
One thing that deserves to be mentioned... All the STAR power. Everyone in the office that we focused on, they ALL are large stars in their own areas. That helped BIG TIME towards making an amazing film.
And while we're on the subject of things in the woods, might I suggest that you watch The Village, assuming you haven't already. I know some people put it in the not so great category. but I like it. I mean, it has a very Autumnal aesthetic (or however you spell that word!) AND it has Adrien Brody. Two of my favorite things! 🤗
Man, I love this movie. Favorite horror film of the last decade. You have to admire a horror film where the world literally ends. No horror film is fully sequel-proof but this one comes pretty damn close. I also love that Sigourney Weaver is in it at the end and that the main character (played by Kristen Connolly) in the film is named Dana. Like Weaver's character in the Ghostbusters movies. Just hearing Weaver say the name "Dana" makes me happy. Although, it would've been even cooler if there was a Zuul in the movie.
The only gripe I have with this movie is that they gave away the fact that there was a force field. Imagine not knowing that was there and seeing Chris get killed. That would've ruled
There are a couple of possibilities there - one is someone forgetting the earlier forcefield scene until he hits it. The other is someone remembering the forcefield is there and getting the "oh crap, that's going to be bad" anticipatory reaction instead.
A few years before this finally came out, they had released teaser posters that poked fun at horror movie cliches like “when an old man warns you not to go in there…make fun of him.” It took awhile for this film to come out but it did not disappoint one bit.
24:46 I actually agree with wanting to die from the unicorn. On the one hand, it seems to be one of the quicker deaths compared to most other monsters. And on the other hand, it's a freaken unicorn.
Many of the monsters were winks or references to other movies, though due to licenses they couldn't really use the actual monster for it. Mentioning a few from the top of my head here, just so you may enjoy seeing the references :) Angry molestation tree: Some may say it's the tree from _Poltergeist_ . Cubes with monsters: Might be a wink to the movie _Cube_ as well. Which may be an interesting watch if you haven't seen that one yet. Clown: Obviously a reference to _IT_ . Obviously Pennywise would be way too difficult to recreate here, so ... just a killer clown instead. Or it's a reference to _Killer Clown from Outer Space_ , that would work as well. Sawblade-guy: Should be a reference to Pinhead from _Hellraiser_ . Scary twins: Should be a wink to the twin kids from _The Shining_ . Kevin: Haven't seen the movie, but there's one out there called _We need to talk about Kevin_ . Though, just having a name up there may also be a nod to the iconic characters we just refer to by their first name: "Freddy", "Jason", "Michael" and we immediately know which ones you mean (though the latter may require the last name Meyers for that). Buckner child: With her hair falling like that, it may just as well be a reference to _Ringu_ / _The Ring_ . Giant Cobra: I suspect this is a nod to the movie _Anaconda_ considering they're both snakes. Were-man: Well, I guess a werewolf is a pretty obvious nod to lore. Merman: I guess it's a reference to the movie _Cold Skin_ , though I haven't seen that one yet. But hey, mermaids are mythical creatures, so they might've just wanted to make fun of children's stories like _Little Mermaid_ , considering they also threw in a unicorn (which kids mostly know from _My Little Pony_ ). And since it's a Joss Whedon film, there's bound to be humor in it. He's the guy responsible for T.V. series like _Buffy_ , _Angel_ , _Firefly_ , but also the movie _Avengers_ . Whenever you come across a Joss Whedon movie, he's bound to make good use of comedy regardless the genre. He even included Amy Acker in this one, who had a prominent role in _Angel_ , so that's _another_ nod to a horror series.
This is Evil Dead seen from the other side. As though Evil Dead was another instance of this ritual, only with no indication of the organization orchestrating it.
This one and The Mist are among my favorites horror movies of all time. Oh yeah, and Let Me In. You need to react to that one. Curious fact, Richard Jenkins is also on Let Me In.

If you guys liked this. Yall have to check out Fright Night before the end of the year. It's a little campy and a little scary and a little funny. A true classic from the 80s.
One problem I had with this movie was the CG bird hitting the invisible force field. It was in the trailer, and shouldn't have been in the film. It spoils what could have been a surprise later on.

@@DerMoerpler My best friend has been praying for a Del Toro Mountains of Madness for years and I agree.
I want them to put out an art book of his pre-production Art work plans for The Hobbit movies too.
It’s such a little thing, but at the beginning I love that Jules and Curt have that little moment where they joke about Jules “knowing about books.” 😂 It hints at so many inside jokes and a shared sense of humor they’re both familiar with, and they can pick up on each other’s teasing immediately. There’s a lot of trust and mutual respect there, which makes their manipulated personalities at the cabin so stark in contrast-very watered down to “just horny and air-headed.”
Someone mentioned "Tucker & Dale vs. Evil" I second that recommendation.
"You gotta keep the customers happy..."...the customers are the old gods...YOU (the audience) are the customers...YOU are the old gods...mind blown 🤯😈👊🔥😂
YES YES YES!
Amy Acker's death is a hilarious nod to her character Fred on the show Angel. Made me laugh so hard.
When her prof opened the portal right it the middle of her speech?

There are even direct references to Evil Dead in this movie, including one of the betting squares on the board reading "Deadites".
Most reactors forget the force field, so when he flies into it, it's a surprise.
I remember falling out of my chair in laughter when Chris Hemsworth hit that force field. lol
The practical creature effects in this film were done by a company started by Heather Langenkamp, who played Nancy in A Nightmare on Elm Street. She didn't pursue acting much after that film, but clearly wanted to keep working on horror movies in some capacity.
She’s acting again! In mike Flannagan’s the midnight club. Not very scary but enjoyed seeing her on screen again
I am writing this to help out Tbr Schmitt and Samantha and this video and this channel with the algorithm ✌️❤️😚☺️
Did you know that in Cabin In The Woods when Marty and Samantha are in the elevators that is actually aEaster Egg to the zombie game Left 4 Dead, if you watch the elevator scene you can see the main zombie bosses the Boomer, witch, and tank originally there was supposed to be dlc tie in with the film but the company that was making it went bankrupt.
Goddamn
you two should check out Tucker & Dale vs Evil some time I think you'd like it
"Basic human needs disgust me." Amen, brother.
I must say I really appreciate your long reaction and the fact that you engage with movies rarely seen in others channels.
One of the lines in the script was "chaos on every screen" and that was a dream come true for horror fans
Honestly, this movie is too clever with its twist, and I absolutely ADORE the monster designs!❤🤘
yeah especially the mosters designthere is on looks like hellraiser cenobites
You and your spouse have some of the best casual critic reviews on RUclips. That is actually a compliment.
This is the true Scooby-Doo live action movie!
18:31 "Damn" 😊
regular voice 🙂
This movie is so much fun too watch. And Samantha trying to get her questions answered was hilarious. Great reaction. 🙂
My favorite anecdote about this movie is that before it was released in theaters they did a preview screening for test audiences and afterwards they had a Q&A with the director. One of the questions from the audience was "Is there going to be a sequel?" The director replied "Did you see the end of the movie???"
The guy with the saw blades in his head, holding the puzzle ball was a reference to Pinhead and the puzzle box from Hellraiser.
Here for the Merman... my soulmate.
First time watching your channel... i shall be here again!
This the best reaction I've seen on the channel, and that's a high bar, with 16:15 taking the triple crown.
The movie explains what’s really going on behind the scenes of every other horror movie you’ve ever seen.
Love this movie, such a unique take on the genre. I recently watched Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, also a really entertaining film!
16:15 "Damn!" 😂
i think sam is using a voice changer sometimes.🤣🤣🤣
This movie got some Evil Dead Vibe ...like the cabin design and the basement, cant believe Chris Hemsworth acted in this movie before Thor was in production which made him famous, luckily he took that movie made his career high till now
That's because it actually was the same cabin that they used in Evil Dead 😬
Whedon always uses his folks in all his stuff. Goddard is also his protégé.
@@johncampbell756 Tim also worked on "The X-Files". He's currently working on "American Horror Story", and he should have been Emmy-nominated for writing the Angel episode you mentioned. It's actually a favorite of lead David Boreanaz.
@@Madbandit77 Tim Minear is actually the show runner and co-creatir of 9-1-1. His first assistant John Gray (starting S3 Angel) is also a producer on that. American Horror Story was Tim's first post Angel show to not get canceled mid season. He is still an EP on that and 9-1-1: Lone Star (I can't not hear that in Darth Helmet's voice).
I remember watching the dailies of the slow motion shots of Angel, Darla, Dru and Spike in te Boxer Rebellion flashbacks and being told that was his first time directing. He was a natural at it.
This is a great choice for spooky season
Another good post-modern-cabin-in-the-woods movie is *CABIN FEVER (2002),* very gory but with sly black humour
2002 not 2016
-Michael Clayton (best legal thriller this century)
-The Town (crime film incl friendship, love, and heists)
-An Officer and a Gentleman (Non-cheesy Top Gun)
Another good movie is Thirteen ghosts. You'll recognized the glass cabin aesthetic
This movie is so much fun
Never regretted watching this on my birthday.
One thing that deserves to be mentioned...
All the STAR power. Everyone in the office that we focused on, they ALL are large stars in their own areas. That helped BIG TIME towards making an amazing film.
There's a big Scooby Doo kind vibe with the stoner being very "shaggy '.
Unfortunately, we’ve seen it. Wild film!
One of the most fun, surprising movies of the past few decades.
The merman was terrifying and it was poetic that dude got his monster he wanted! Lol
They could easily do a series on that where the Main cast will the office guys and the ones to die each week will change everytime.
This movie was so clever and creative.
Def one of my faves.
I didn't see Chris Hemsworth on the bike coming, and I was very lucky, because it's one of the funniest things I've ever seen
@@rmsgreyI've seen both reactions
By the same director is a great movie "Bad Times at the El Royal"
He also directed Hotel Artemis. Jodie Foster and Dave Bautista are an unexpected great duo in it.
Jump scared Samantha is the best lol
"DAMN!" Best parts of this video.
A few years before this finally came out, they had released teaser posters that poked fun at horror movie cliches like “when an old man warns you not to go in there…make fun of him.”
It took awhile for this film to come out but it did not disappoint one bit.
After you have watched this movie, I recommend looking at a break-down video to get all the cool easter eggs and references in this movie.
Mentioning a few from the top of my head here, just so you may enjoy seeing the references :)
Angry molestation tree: Some may say it's the tree from _Poltergeist_ .
Loved this Film & Reaction. You guys are watching all the good stuff!
11:50 Cabin in the Woods is a good movie.
Five teenagers go to stay at a cabin in a forest only to discover that is a deadly trap set for them by technicians in an underground facility beneath the cabin who unleashes monsters and zombies upon them as part of a sinister sacrificial ritual.

Hey guys! Power went out in my neighborhood, will be in the dark for another hour or so! But it's a good thing you're reacting to this movie.
One problem I had with this movie was the CG bird hitting the invisible force field. It was in the trailer, and shouldn't have been in the film. It spoils what could have been a surprise later on.
