      They mean the PG32UCDM because it’s recently received a firmware update to improve HDR brightness and add Dolby Vision support. Although at this stage it’s not been tested or verified by any reviewers like ourselves. And there’s nothing to say that MSI won’t also update their HDR performance soon, I know they are looking in to it

      1. when you look at the screen directly (as usual), the colors are noticeably less bright and juicy than when viewed from an angle (top or left) on the monitor screen.
      2. If you set the "night vision" option (reduces excessive darkening in hdr) to the "ai" position - in games with a top view (dota 2, for example, if you move the battlefield away with the mouse wheel on the replay), when moving the screen, light horizontal stripes moving in the direction of the screen movement are observed.

    Yes, flickering still happens, seen on the loading screen of AC Odyssey. Also, there is a stuck pixel that moves when intended to, at the Ubisoft app password field on the login prompt. These are both present on MSI MPG321URX and ASUS PG32UCDM even with the latest firmware updates. Gigabyte FO32U2P has flickering but no stuck pixel on the Ubisoft password field for their app.

  • @PumatSol
    @PumatSol Месяц назад +9

    One BIG unresolved issue: OLED Panel Protect is supposed to run automatically when the display sleeps after 4 hours of cumulative usage, but it DOES NOT RUN in some circumstances! I haven’t been able to nail this down exactly, but on my setup it will never run panel protect until i run it manually, meaning it will ALWAYS hit the 16 hour limit and force itself to run in the middle of my work, unless I remember to run it myself before that point. HUGE HUGE PROBLEM because long gaps between panel refreshes can accelerate permanent burn in and MSI can’t seem to replicate it because their support has told me it is working for them.
    This has happened to me on 2 different units, on all firmware versions, and I’ve seen others on Reddit describe the same exact issue so this isn’t just my model! I think it depends on the exact OSD settings you select, and possibly the devices you have connected.
    I have a MacBook Pro connected via USB-C, and a PC connected via DisplayPort, and the “power button” setting on “standby” because that will keep usb devices powered when the display sleeps. I also have the Panel Protect Notice setting set to “16 hours” to prevent the 4-hour popup from interrupting me. I’m not sure if it’s a combination of all of these things or something else that is causing the problem, but others have described the Power Button and Protect Notice settings as being the cause of the problem for them.
    If you could possibly investigate this further it would be a huge help because MSI doesn’t seem interested in investigating themselves.
    I will also say that it seemed to work correctly right after the firmware update, but after panel protect ran automatically once, it failed to run automatically again after that. Like some flag isn’t getting reset properly to trigger the next cycle.

      I can confirm that this is/was also happening with me. From what I can tell it always seems to activate if I just leave my PC and let it go into sleep mode, but it doesn't always activate if I just turn it off.

    I'm still getting bad VRR flicker in loading screens on games. Also according to the black level test on lagom, the black levels are too dark on every picture mode except Game/Pro User with HDR enabled. There is slight temporal dithering on greys which you can also see on the Lagom black level test. Finally when changing the HDR brightness in windows labled "SDR content brightness" it does seem to inaccurately display white levels with each brightness tick.
    In my testing HDR enabled, True Black 400, and Pro User has the most accurate black levels at the cost of temporal dithering while Display P3 has the most accurate color when using HDR at the cost of black levels. Those calibrations would be perfect imo if they could fix the temporal dithering and VRR flicker in the next FW update.
    I play a lot of dark games like Dead by Daylight so black levels are an important and often overlooked issue. The screens pretty much unusable for me without HDR because the Night Mode and AI Vision messes with the colors too much and makes the screen look washed out. I almost returned it until I found the above calibration.
    Overall I'm pretty happy with this monitor. Its very versatile for a wide range of games and scenarios!

    Simon, would it be possible to start including 120hz input lag in your reviews as well? Seems like it would be important for anyone wanting to hook a console up to a monitor. I do not have one, but I assume the PS5 and Xbox Series X run in 120hz mode and use VRR (if enabled) to cap down at 60/30fps instead of setting the display itself to 60hz.
    Also, I recently went down the rabbit hole on 60hz input lag because I was confused about when (if at all) it mattered on PC. You clarify that when VRR is enabled, you will get the 240hz input lag... I'm glad you clarify this because I did not realize this previously... HOWEVER, some games actually do force your monitor to run at 60hz when playing in fullscreen mode, giving you significantly worse input lag. The prime example of this is any game by Fromsoftware, like Elden Ring. There are a few janky ways around this that I won't get into (I can elaborate further if anyone wants to know), but at the end of the day none of them are perfect solutions and it is just flat out more enjoyable to play Fromsoftware games on my 65" LG C2 as opposed to my PG32UCDM solely because of input lag. I never thought that an additional 10ms would be noticeable, but it is shockingly noticeable.
    Anyways, would it be possible to express to your contacts at MSI and ASUS that they need to address 60hz and 120hz input lag? I don't see why it can't be the same sub 1ms that is there at the max refresh rate, especially when you consider the price tag of these monitors and the fact that most other monitors do not have this issue -- perhaps they could try to implement something akin to LG's "Boost" input lag mode on their TVs, where the monitor performs frame doubling (or in the case of 240hz, what would be frame quadrupling) to get very similar input lag compared to max refresh rate. I understand that the scaler for these QD-OLEDs provided by Samsung display is probably limited in what can be modified by the monitor manufacturer, but we've seen with the PG32UCDM that they are able to provide additional features that others have not, so I would find it hard to believe they are unable to fix the input lag -- my guess is they just didn't see it as an actual issue, but it is.

      I’ll look in to whether we can include 120Hz results in the future as well. I know MSI and Asus are aware of the challenges with increased lag at lower refresh rates but this seems to be a pattern across all monitors really (those with a natively higher refresh rate anyway) so it may be challenging to address

    Hello TFTCentral! I wanted to ask, I haven't moved into buying an OLED monitor because I'm looking for a pure-black monitor that doesn't tint (looking at LG panels due to the purple-tint), since I do color-sensitive work in well-lit rooms, and that is ideally, but not necessarily, glossy. Do you know when a 32" might come out that supports LG's new RGWB pixel-layer array? I might aim for this one instead. Thank you for responding!
    EDIT: I noticed ASUS released a 27" glossy WOLED, but do you know if they'd be releasing a 32" glossy WOLED? That would be game-changer. Thank you!!!

      @azaeldrm no plans from LG Display at this stage to produce a natively glossy panel in that size, but it could happen later on if their 27” option is popular. I wouldn’t rule it out. In the mean time Dough are going to launch a gorilla glass coated version of that very panel with their Spectrum Black 32”, so maybe worth looking in to as an option

      It absolutely is possible, but will require you to leave DSC enabled on the monitor. That’s a visually lossless compression technique that supports 4K 240Hz over both those connections. Obv you will also need a modern graphics card capable of supporting all this too

    Dissapointed with 321urx - too dim. Very bright for small percentage of screen area, but if you have a pdf with lots of whites the screen dims down like crazy in brightness, to a degree where it is annoying. It is like as if you where going from 80% brightness on a normal screen, and down to 15% just because a larger amount of the screen needs to be bright.

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral  22 дня назад +1

      The simple solution to that is to not use HDR mode for that kind of content. You should only enable HDR when viewing actual HDR content. In SDR operation the screen has uniform brightness at all window sizes so you’d never see dimming as you change content or window sizes 😀

    Overall the monitor has been great, even with the latest 010 firmware. I particularly liked how it goes back to standby or on after the panel protect kicks in. However, a few issues I've noticed, the VRR flicker is still there on certain games. Especially Jedi Survivor in the loading and menus. Most of the game is fine but when you pause the game it'll flicker a bit, maybe it was reduced but its still there. If you turn off G-Sync it goes away completely but you'll be at that 90-100fps at 240Hz. Another thing that hasn't been resolved is the panel protect where even if you leave the monitor on in standby the entire night/day it will still kick in once it hits its internal 16 hour timer. I know when I'm getting ready for work at around 6AM, even if I use the monitor for say 10-15 minutes then leave it on standby the entire day say 8-9 hours. Come back home and while you're doing something the menu for 16 hours pops up saying its mandatory and/or I use it for a few hours after work then I come back with a full 8 minute or so pixel cleaning. I don't know how it is for the other panels but LG doesn't have this issue so they're doing something right there. So yes I have caught the popup and/or forced panel protect in the most inconvenient times and its funny my second monitor would still be on while this one is flashing on stand by. Overall if they can fix these issues it'll be one more step closer to a better monitor.

    Dear Author! dear friends! Hi. I have this monitor. Please pay attention to important things that for some reason no one is talking about (the first one is VERY important):
    1. If you look at the screen of this monitor directly, as usual, the colors are not very strong, but noticeably dimmer than if viewed from angles. This is very important and annoying, because when you approach the monitor, the colors are brighter and when you sit down at it, they get darker. This is probably a flaw in the matrix that can hardly be fixed programmatically.
    On the first point: I consider this unacceptable for a monitor in this price category. He's not worth his money.
    2. Night vision in the AI position - in games with a top view (Dota 2 for example) - especially if you move the camera away with the mouse wheel on the replay - when you move the screen, light vertical stripes moving in the direction of the screen movement are clearly visible.
    3. Indeed, the HDR 1000 greatly reduces the overall brightness to an unacceptable level.
    Good luck to everyone

      Yes, Asus has made its monitor MUCH better than msi with its latest update; not just much better, but now it's not even a question of what to choose. of course, Asus. And msi did a very bad thing with the darkness of the hdr1000, giving, I'm sure, an improvement to Asus by agreement. they agreed. I bought an msi although could buy absolutely any monitor from me. I will never choose anything from msi again. I feel like I was just tricked for my own money. bought an msi - msi itself will make it clear to you that you are not a first-class, second-class person. unpleasant.
