Making the show take place separately from the games while still being in the same universe is honestly a great idea, and what should be done with big universes. Use new characters instead of existing ones; while sharing the elements that make the universe unique. Let's hope this won't end up like Halo, shall we?

There's a galaxy full of interesting alien species, but instead of seeing almost any of that portrayed on screen, we get the same settings, and characters over a shallow time span, so show runners can capitalize on fan nostalgia instead of making fresh content.
One of the differences here is they actually worked with Bethesda and Todd Howard to make the series fit with the games. The people behind the Halo show purposely chose to ignore the games.

The vibe’s of Bethesda fallout maybe. But this is the west coast. The brotherhood shouldn’t be here in the heart of the NCR territory. And the extreme wasteland vibes are also wrong. This takes place around 220 years after the nukes. Society shouldn’t be looking like this anymore.
Hopefully it goes well. One advantage is they can make an original protagonist if they dont want to repeat the story of the first game, they only have to get the setting and atmosphere correctly.

While Tim is the fallout 1 guy, making the engine and getting the team to make the game, he left half way(maybe earlier) through fallout 2 and hasn't touched the IP since. Toddy boy has had more time and done more, for better or worse, for the franchise. Its unfortune but not surprising.
The Halo TV show has made it iffy for me. Creators didn't play any of the games, read the books, or even just watched the fall of reach, which makes me worry that the people who made this might be repeating that error.
Well, if they are going to recreate Megaton and Vertibirds, hopefully there is an explanation of maybe Robco bringing blueprints across the wasteland and moving on to other states when finished?
