    I'm from the UK, I've never been a fan of basketball, and over the last ten years I've lost interest in the sports I once watched religiously! When I heard about Caitlin Clark I took a look just out of curiosity. There was something about her that drew me in, and before long I was hooked!
    I never dreamed I would ever watch women's basketball. The idea that she isn't responsible for the sudden flood of interest is nonsensical. It's coming from all over the world! It just the truth? It is what it is?

      @chrisdolan I watched 3 years of Caitlin while she was in college. In 2023, Iowa went to the NCAA championship game, same this year, all because of Caitlin's tenacity. She and Angel Reese were drafted into the WNBA, and Caitlin's team, the Fever had a grueling schedule to start with, 11 games in 20 or 21 days, tougher than ANY other team in the WNBA. She was "hazed" during the first half of her rookie season but quickly learned how to play the same "game" after they had a week's break. She got to know her team, their plays, and when she brought the ball to the front court, she no longer had a lost puppy look on her face. She will be on fire after the Olympics and a month's break from basketball. People will see a new Caitlin Clark when they get back to the 2nd half of their schedule. I'm glad she's getting a break, she's been on the court since 2023 began with very little free time.

    The Olympic motto is supposedly "Faster, Higher, Stronger" but we're being cheated out of seeing that with the omission of Clark from the team. I graduated from Michigan State University back in 1986, and I'm old enough to remember seeing Magic vs. Bird in the NCAA finals. I don't recall any team ever beating the Spartans in the manner that Clark's Hawkeyes did. It's tied at 73 with less than 10 seconds left. Every Hawkeye is outside the 3-point line. They get the ball to Clark who launches a logo-three at the buzzer as time expires. Who diagrams plays like that? I don't recall ever seeing anything like that before. When team USA needed a point against South Sudan, they had LeBron drive the basket. That's what everyone else would do: take the higher percentage shot. Clark is showing us something either rarely seen--or never seen before. But no, we don't want her. I think it stinks. I'm upset, and I think I've been cheated by those running US Women's team.

Caitlin reminds me of the days when Magic would throw amazing passes and lead the league in assists. His high for a game was 24 done 3 times. Caitlin has the WNBA record of 19 but she could've topped 24 if her teammates made more easy layups and wide open 3s after getting passes from her. Even though they back their country they still wanted to see CC in person, she is a phenom that has brought many men to womens bBall that wasnt there before. Its also obvious the sign was made knowing they didnt have a chance against the USA. So amazing that Clark's popularity is so global. What Arike Ogunbowale is doing is what most people would expect some players to do. The spotlight is currently on Caitlin, which means the spotlight is on the league too and instead of trying to invalidate her achievements and skills, why not use the opportunity to showcase your own skills and show them what you’ve got?
    CC’s great man and she shoots on an unlimited range, but Arike Ogunbowale’s 3PTs are actually on the next level because of her experience which leads to consistent shots. I would have NEVER had known & researched that if I had not decided to tune in for the WNBA All-Stars for CC.
    Don’t be petty about the fame, instead use it off of her and let the haters shut up. Why yap and ruin the one opportunity to shine?

    • @ssideris
      @ssideris Месяц назад +1

      @@MickeyMouse-ul8zl I don’t necessarily believe that putting two powerhouses on the same team will lead to the Championship, but I do think that in due time, if CC stays on Fever and pushes through, she may break all the barriers and bring the success that Tamika Catchings had given to the Indiana Fever a decade ago.
      What she had with Temi Fagbenle was really good, and it’s unfortunate that Temi’s out due to unexpected injury. Temi was quick, and she was tall, which is why she handled CC’s transition passes really well.
      But I’m also a believer that CC’s passes are very hard to execute AND hard to receive. The team is clearly still trying to get used to the intensity of her passing, and that can lead to high turnover rates. For 2024, I still think Las Vegas Aces and NY Liberty are the ultimate powerhouses and CC has a long way to go until she can bring the Indiana Fever to their championship, but I have no doubt she can do it. We just don’t know when.

    • @lynnhazlewood9738
      @lynnhazlewood9738 Месяц назад

      @@ssideris It seems likely that these professionals have never received passes like CC's. It didn't take Iowa long to learn. I imagine it won't take the Fever long either.
      It also would be nice if the other players would learn to move towards the ball and not just wait for it to arrive. Its frustrating to watch. Just an opinion.

    • @ssideris
      @ssideris Месяц назад

      @@lynnhazlewood9738 I don’t think it’s that they’ve never received such a pass, but I think that it’s never been instilled into their training before so it’s an adjustment period. Even during CC’s Iowa days, the first 2 years of her college career was a learning in progress. You can see the hard work from her 3rd year onwards.
      And I understand about the moving towards the ball thing, I totally see where you’re coming from and I agree to an extent, but we also have to keep in mind that this is a team that has been getting the top 2 picks since 2022. They got the number 2 pick in 2022, and number 1 picks 2023-2024. They’ve got a lot to work on, and they’re a very young team. There’s so much a number 1 overall draft pick can do within a year, but I think if the Fever make it into playoffs this season, then they’re going in the right direction considering the Fever hasn’t been in the playoffs since 2016. So baby steps, and maybe in a year or two, we’ll see this team flourish into something that Tamika Catchings had back when she won the championship with Fever.

    What makes her so special is the humility she has while doing great things. She’s not trying to pad her stats at the end of the game either like some other people.

    Why do they hate on her? Simply put..... jealousy! They're not in the spotlight, have never been in the spotlight, and never will be in the spotlight (for anything positive)!
    We women are too emotional. They went from hating her when she was drafted to complaining she wasn't making enough when they announced what kind of money she was making to hating her again!
    Can't make this stuff up! 🙄🙄

    She is right. The WNBA must determine their reputation as a professional organization. Professionals don't treat others that join their ranks like a new prisoner in jail. The leaders should consider themselves committed to maintaining the reputation and safety of all; and all the members should be committed to maintaining the reputation of the organization and display professionalism above their own self-interest.

    If the players before CC in the WNBA ever wonders why the arent marketable. I would say just watch yourselves on TV and how you treated CC coming in to the WNBA. It is your actions not your talents. Although you players see the talent of CC you all will never admit. CC is marketable because of her talent and her respect for the game .

    Women's basketball is a gimme gold event for the US. They could have picked any random team by lottery and easily won gold. It is boring and nowhere near the quality we see in the mens game. They took away the only reason why I would have watched so I didn't watch them and do not plan to. I feel bad for the international players that will never get the exposure they could have had.
