1st album, kinda grunge. 2-4 electronic heavy. My theory? Korey joined and was on keyboards exclusively so they tried this direction. On the 5th lp they put a guitar in her hands and started melting faces. It explains the name, throw everything in a skillet and see what's cooking.

  • @justsomeyoutubeguy664

Well, the most important thing is that this is from one of their early albums, from 2001 I think. They were more electronic back then. The song Savior you reacted to is from their 2003 album, Collide. That's when they started to form their current sound. I can see why you don't like it lol. I'm not the biggest fan of the pre-Collide albums either. And to be honest the score you gave amused me more than angered me, I'm not leaving the channel anytime soon 😂

David this panhead, and obviously from comments, the panheads that started following you from the beginning are feeling you .... I bought a 3 pack of Skillet CD's awhile back and didn't like the first 2 CD's in the pack ... only listened to the Awake and Alive CD. And as I have already commented, Jen and her vocals mixed with John was what got me hooked. I have found that I do enjoy some of their older stuff, especially from Comatose, but love almost everything from Comatose on to Victorious! I really wouldn't have finished listening to this if it was on the radio, would have changed the station .... definitely not for everyone

This isn't one of my favorites, to be honest. It's a really early Skillet song; like others said, it's from their electronic rock era. That's the main reason I myself don't like it as much. I don't hate it, but I don't love it, either. And I'm a huge Panhead, too. Many Panheads don't like a lot of their pre-Collide stuff, and I can say that I'm not crazy about about a lot of it, either. I like some of it, but I don't love a lot of what I do like from the pre-Collide era. Nope, I'm not leaving, sir. Part of the reason is because you're being honest. I appreciate your honesty. As I commented to someone else, the only reasons I don't hate this song is the message and the fact that it's Skillet. I'm not trying to sound like a lemming with that, but with one exception (so far), I can't hate Skillet. And you're right that it doesn't sound like them.

Don’t feel bad about your score. It’s not a super great song. To be fair, it was released at the end of the 90s. So about 20 years ago. There was a lot of weird stuff going on back then.

  • @JesseWisener

I'm a little late to the party. I will say the video you selected was pretty bad. If you can get ahold of a CD or some other lossless source it may help your impression. But it was also when they were on smaller Christian label with decreased budget compared to where they're at now. They did have a competent mix engineer in Skidd Mills, though this was before music was mastered for streaming/mp3. I wouldn't expect you to be properly blown away by second try with a lossless source, but could help your impression. This was also recorded at a point in Skillet's history where they were between guitarists, so John and Skidd did all of the guitars, save one song.

I became a Panhead in 2010 a year after Awake came out other than a few songs alot of Skillet's early stuff I am not a fan of this song was on the album Alien Youth which came out in 2001 Skillet experimented with alot of different sounds and styles in their early days they started with a grunge sound then went more electronic after this album Skillet went with a hard rock sound with their 2003 album Collide

  • @screamforjesus-christianmusic

I don't know what you're going to think about my musical taste, but I'll be honest. This is my second favorite song ever made ever. What can I say, it deeply moves me and I'm the kind of person that truly finds enjoyment in every genre and subgenre of music. I'm not abandoning the channel, dude. If industrial and electronic aren't your thing then they're not your thing. Therefore, I would advise you don't react to anything from their 2nd, 3rd or 4th albums. This is from their 4th, Alien Youth. I hope you can get back in the zone with Skillet on whatever the next song is that you check out.
By the way, even though you absolutely hated this song, I'm still just happy that someone out there finally reacted to it. That's still a treat for me. 😁

The lyrics are awesome, so I agree there. But I'm not nuts about electronic rock overall. Really, the only reason I don't hate this song is because it's Skillet. I'm too much of a Panhead to hate anything they've done, which one exception--the re-dubbed version of Monster. That I do hate.

Hey David has anyone ever asked you to do their song 'Stand'? It's kind of a funny one, the creators of the kids show Veggie Tales asked them so cover one of their songs, and not only did they do it, they went WAY harder than they probably needed to. The best part is it's actually pretty decent lol. If you don't want to do it it's fine, but I think it might be a fun one if you don't take it too seriously.

Right from the start could tell you aren't a fan of the samples and everything. I'm a huge nu metal fan, but I listen to everything from the rolling stones to meshuggah. Gotta say, this is probably my favourite song ever... fell in love the moment I heard it. Do I think its perfect? Hell no. But I love it.
If I had heard it first time without headphones and was working out or something then no, i probably wouldn't like it either. But I heard it when I was looking for some chillout kinda songs in a dark room, headphones on, and It just hit so right... the ambient sounds and long build up make the rock side of the song really makes it seems like it just explodes too. But understandable if people don't that sort of thing... it took me a while to get into bands like Incubus
Btw, i thought there's plenty of bass when the song peaked. Maybe only heard it 'cause of my headphones though. Not sure what speakers you're using... maybe the bass is not very clear through speakers... I dunno. But its definitely there haha.
But I appreciate someone's finally done a review of this song, even though you didnt like it right from the start 🤣

I saw a skillet on an album cover and couldn't help but buy it, and I've been a Panhead ever since. They got all electronic for a few years and it didn't really work. This is from their Alien Youth album. from the same album though they have great songs like Eating Me Away and Kill Me, Heal Me. I think a lot of Skillet fans felt the same way for a few years.. :-)

Listen please! Huge Skillet fan here! Skillet is fantastic, but their first 4 albums were bad. Skillet released a 2003 album called Collide, and it was good, but anything BEFORE Collide was just bad. You should be able to tell within the first 10 seconds if it is a Skillet song from 1996-2002 or 2003-present; it's a WORLD of difference. Somebody here said anything before Jen is bad, but that's not true at all; Skillet started being good in 2003, and Jen joined in 2008. P R O M I S E ! ! ! lol
Skillet albums (OLD, BAD TO MOST PEOPLE):
    Skillet (Self titled)
Hey you, I love your soul
    Invincible
    Alien Youth
    Skillet albums (GOOD OL' SKILLET)
    Collide
    Comatose
    Awake
    Rise
    Unleashed
    Victorious

So most people really didn't know who they were until then. People who really loved them started looking at older stuff ... I listened and passed on the stuff prior to comatose... which I passed on at first ... no Jen lol ... but heard Comatose again and then thought no this is good! What it's like to live without God in your life ... Comatose, just going through the motions dead inside. And gave some of their older songs a second chance. But still didn't get into anything before Collide. Funny how he said it felt like Dead Man Walking, and he hated that one, I didn't like it either but heard it again with another reactor ... Fil Fable ... and he loved it, but he also pays more attention to the lyrics and the words and less to the music and instruments and how it "works". And hearing it a couple more times ... it grew on me. Just like all but the more popular songs on every album since Comatose, I skipped at first, now listen and sing along to every song on all of there (good to most) albums.😎

As a song itself it's okay, but like you said pretty basic and repetitive, like something you'd hear in church or performed by a more traditional Christian artist or something. Is it the worst song ever? No. Is it one of the best songs ever? In my opinion no. There are definitely some good songs from Skillet's early years but it depends on your tastes and if you're willing to accept and look past the fact that the band members were different compared to today, as believe it or not for as talented and good as the current members are they're not the be all end all of Skillet.
