    Next Game: Tales of Berseria
    Reason: The main character is a Berserker, one who fights with anger and hatred. The main character hates a guy who is now controlling the world and sacrificing innocent people, the main character lives to kill this man.

    Wow Symphonia caught me off guard with it's themes.
    ''Hey kids stay in class while I go check if it's time for your classmate to BECOME A GODDESS AND SAVE US ALL''
    I like how it keeps everything on a digestible level. I'm still very early in the game but right now it seems to balance really well it's quirky moments and it's serious ones. Like a good anime.

    I dunno if Graces has a more royal cast than Abyss. Abyss has a Duke's son (at one point betrothed to the princess), the princess, an heiress of a 2000 year-old religious lineage, the personal guard for the religious leader (who is a non-playable cast member), a colonel (really more like a general in terms of political and military significance), and the only character who seems to be a lowly servant turns out to actually be a nobleman as well. It's pretty close.

    • @NeostormXLMAX
      @NeostormXLMAX 5 лет назад +4

      wait why is that?
      is it opposite game play wise?
      story wise?
      setting wise?
      is it cuz tales of the abyss takes place on the ground vs
      tales of destiny taking place in the sky?

    • @paperboy1116
      @paperboy1116 4 года назад +12

      @@NeostormXLMAX It's about trying to defy destiny. In lore (SPOILER) for Abyss, the entire world heavily follows a predetermined fate in a very large collection of prophecies called The Score. The main protagonists, by the end of the game, destroy the score and the entire world must live on without the reliance of it. Tales of Destiny/2 has the main characters follow their destinies (hence the title). Much simpler and more streamlined Tales story comparatively at first glance.

    There is a reason why the "F" for "future" is inside the PS3 version of Graces. Because it actually has second, fully fledged Story mode that happens, I think one year, after the main game, which wasn't in the original Wii Version. This represents what happened to everyone in the future, and thus they added the "f" to the title!

    I wish he was on Game Theory but everyone in Game Theory has their represenative roles. MatPat is the most popular and takes up theories and such. Gaijin covers stuff about ethnicity and culture, explaining why something was taken so offensively, or what certain culture references in games are. Drake does an analysis of Smash characters, their abilities and moves, and maps. He also did crossover, and Smash Analysis only has a year and a half of material available to cover until new characters are introduced. He wouldn't fit in because he would be in MatPat's role. I mean sure, a collaboration between the two would be awesome every now and then but I'm sure Gnoggin wants to run his own channel and do theories on his own.

      300-I.Q. Prower I'm currently playing through ToSDotNW (Worst acronym), and I don't like the combat as much as TotA (Better acronym). Emil's normal attacks a too clunky and robotic, and a LOT of his artes are too floatey and send him sailing across the arena, but I do like Swallow Fury and Converging Fury. Also the monster pacts seem like a last ditch effort when new protagonists couldn't be thought up. I still love the game so far!

      +Braden Hamilton (Kirbyterasu) DotNW is not the best game, and I will admit that, which is hard, considering ToS is one of my favorite in the franchise. Thing is, with nine protagonists already existing, eight of which are available at some points, and two new ones, it does make sense. People do like being able to raise and evolve characters, as well, something you cant do with a human or humanoid character. It makes sense. I didn't like the way you travel through the world, however. It made grinding more difficult, and the game felt so short compared to many other titles.

    • @Kirbyterasu
      @Kirbyterasu 9 лет назад +1

      Nikki Rising Yeah, I know. I haven't played ToS, but with what I've heard, DotNW would seem to disappoint. As for the world map, having played TotA beforehand, and ToV after the fact, it just seems wrong to be playing basically a board game.

    Feeling the love for Tales of Vesperia.
    Basically just said, "It's Latin for evening star. It's the brightest star in the sky. They named their guild, Vesperia. Moving on~"
    Meanwhile you go in depth into their hidden meanings of the majority of other games and drawing the viewer in, mentioning the double meaning and how the names relate to the plot and the characters as a whole. "It's a star and their guild name," doesn't really show that much thought really went into ToV's interpretation. They get a little over 10 seconds of screen time in a nearly 14 minute video. To say I was disappointed is an understatement.

    • @Demon_Lord_Josh
      @Demon_Lord_Josh 9 лет назад +3

      ZeroTheHeartlessKing I know, DotNW was for a low-ish budget direct sequel on of the better tales games literally have both the symphonia games and prefer the second to the first for combat and story line.
      The first games explanation in the video was a bit lack luster when compaired to the true meaning. yeah the end result is to bring the worlds together but Gnoggin missed some key points to the explanation of the title. for example 4000years before the start of the game the worlds were one that were split in two to prevent them from dieing before the time to reunite them arrived.
      During the 2 year skip between the end of the first game and the beginning of the second nature itself started to wreak havoc upon the world thus causing each faction tethe'allans and sylvaranti to blame each other for the problems of the world further caused by the gap in civilization from before the world was restored. In order to do so , Marta Lualdi, Emil Castsgnier, and Tenebrea the Centurion of Darkness search for the other sleeping Centurions with the end goal of awakening Ratatosk the Summon Spirit of the Giant Kharlan Tree and Guardian of the Ginungagap, the door the the Demonic realm, Niflhiem(or as some may know, awaken his full power). The romance in the game was very minor compared to everything else but still pivotal in the character development for Emil and Marta.
      As for story line, DofNW reveals some things that were left unknown from the first game, such as where the Derris Emblem came from, who the summon spirit of the giant tree of old was, why were the summon spirits placed at the locations that they were found, etc. As you can see I'm more apt to explain the tales of symphonia games than Gnoggin is apparently, based solely on his explanation of the first games title and completely forgetting the second. Not saying he's a bad youtuber but there will always be someone better than you at something, and that the titles of the more recent tales games are deeper than he described. Also all the Tales games are applicable to the Multi-verse Theory.

    lol well since I seem to have a chance to ramble about Tales because there's almost no one to talk to about it here, I'll definitely take it. Current faves: Zestiria and Xillia 2 (this is gonna be SO LONG. Oh God, I'm so sorry).
    I've heard a lot of people don't like Xillia 1 and 2, and okay, whatever I don't really care much about Xillia 1, but Xillia 2 managed to tear my heart out, throw it down the floor and stomp it into a million pieces, then set the pieces on fire as if it's not satisfied with what it did (complete with evil laughter in the background). I love Ludger and Julius and their relationship a whole lot, and Rollo is just an added bonus (would you believe me if I said I picked up Xillia 2 because of Rollo? I wouldn't too if I forgot I really did that). I love the crazy combos you can do in battle, and the mystic artes are really cool. Maybe the Chromatus kinda made Ludger too op at times but hey who doesn't like being op sometimes? Honestly, I'm not one so much into gameplay (though I like battle systems like Tales' LMBS and real time way more than turn based battle systems, oops), what manages to get me hooked on games is the plot, and Xillia 2 really got me there. I love how dark it is and how it actually got me thinking about the importance of family and the morals that get challenged when it comes to it (and I adore the Bad Ending, fight me). I know, it might sound cheesy, but it's not. It's really really dark and awful and way too much for Ludger and Elle, and chapters 12 and 15 and the True Ending got me crying like an idiot. I don't care if the maps were "recycled" and "too lazy," for fuck's sake the game took place literally just a year after the first one; there won't be that much changes you know?
    As for Zestiria, oh boy, at one point I got influenced by the number of negative feedback about the game, but when I sat down and actually got through it? Along with the number of analyses about the characters, especially Sorey and Mikleo, it immediately became my favourite. It's true that Zestiria is lacking in a lot of things gameplay-wise (fuck the camera), hopefully the EN and EU adaptation would fix those, but it made up with the characters, I believe. Despite Bamco saying that Zestiria is supposed to return to its roots, it actually managed to break a lot of character tropes established not just in the series, but in the whole JRPG business. Sorey and Mikleo, for example, though I'm not gonna say a lot about it :))) As for the battle system, I love the whole "merge with ur seraph and butcher all of them lmao" idea. It kinda broke the game though, so have fun with that. Though honestly, what got me smitten to Zestiria are the characters and their relationship with one another, especially Sorey and Mikleo's "friendship."
    TLDR: Xillia 2 destroyed me and I loved it, Zestiria is okay but the characters destroyed me and I loved it. Also not mentioned: Ludger Will Kresnik did nothing wrong.

    Think about it twice when you dismiss "Legendia".
    A legend is a specific type of tale, that deserves to be read, usualy, based upon real events but rewritten to include fictionnal events and fantasy.

      +trotz50 Lemme guess... _Tales of Berseria_ takes its name from the word "Berserk" and replaces the "k" with an "ia". It's about everyone going "berserk" over Namco's insatiable appetite for shoehorning "ia" on the ends of titles for all their _Tales_ games! ;D

  • @NarraPlays
    @NarraPlays 6 лет назад +3

    The "F" in Tales of Graces F meant future because the PS3 version contained an extra arc that didn't exist in past versions of the game. This being "Lineage and Legacies" or "The Future Arc", in which you join the characters a few months after the main portion of the game.
    Just figured I'd put this info out there in case anyone was curious.

    I have sort of a love/hate relationship with the Tales series. I've only played three games: Symphonia, Legendia, and Dawn of the New World, and I loved them for the unique characters, stories, and combat, but at the same time hated them because with each one I always got stuck on a really hard boss and never beat them because I just gave up

      Pretty new to the series myself. So far I’ve only played Zestiria, in refards to games confirmed as main titles.
      Haven’t played any spin-offs.
      And I’m honestly not sure where Tales of the Rays stands in terms of main or spin-off, but I’ve played that a bit too.

    • @hariman7727

      Tales of Link and Tales of Rays are more of crossover games that are there to have fun with the characters, and either introduce newer fans to a LOT of older characters, or to let older fans collect ALL the favorites.
      I haven't played Rays, but I like the story in Tales of Link.
      Also, I liked Dawn of the New World. It wasn't perfect, especially since it had a VERY tough act to follow, but it was pretty good, with some likable characters, and returning favorites.

    My favorite Tales game is Symphonia. Reason? Probably because it was my first ever RPG game. I just love how deep every single character is, how far the lore goes, how the fighting system works and pretty much every little aspect of this game. Sure, you can say it graphically didn't age very well, but it's still far more visually tolerable than Final Fantasy VII if you ask me. However, it is true that dungeons get repetitive with each new playthrough and thus make this game kind of unbearable after 300 hours(I'm speaking of experience). Also, the sequel was so bad I wish it never existed.
    You know what Tales game NEEDS a sequel? Vesperia. With an ending like this one, there is some incredible potential for more. Namco should remake the PS3 port and sell it in a bundle with a sequel. A good sequel this time. A sequel where Duke is playable. That would be nice.

      Symphonia was my first RPG as well, but my favorite Tales game is Abyss. A lot of the Symphonia cast sorta leaves after their story arc, at least in the sense that they have nothing to do.

    Well, my Tales Game is, Tales of the Abyss! And like, I personally saw it as a game about Growth. Luke, a once snobby prince who expects everyone to bow to his every whim, grows to be a strong leader, and he never stops growing. Anise, who always ended up taking orders from someone else, let it be the religion of her country or a certain Grand Maestro, when it costs the life of her best friend, she learns to follow her heart instead of what she's ordered to. Guy, a rather fancy man and best friend to Luke, but because of a traumatic experience as a child grew to fear women ((I won't say why cause of Spoilers >wo)), but he eventually learns to get over his fear as he travels with his female companions ((those being Tear, Natalia, and Anise!)). Even when all seemed hopeless for everyone, they were able to find the courage to continue on, knowing that even if the chance is slim, they can always rise back up from the Abyss. And they grow and learn from each and every moment and situation they're in.

    Not to nit pick, but Xillia is pronounced Eh-Ku-Shi (freely translated into the Z sound)-illia or at least that's how it's written in Katakana. I always called it Xillia like Zillia, and I thought it was odd whenever I heard people pronounce it as eksillia, but that's the official way it's written. You can debate whether the pronunciation should be carried over, but I guess for me it's word of god and source material over adaptation. エ = E, ク = Ku, シ = Shi, リ = Ri, ア = A

    • @the_abdiel_27
      @the_abdiel_27 9 лет назад

      Katakana is used in Japanese largely for pronouncing foreign words so エクシリア is based on the word that the katakana is trying to sound out in Japanese.

    • @flashburn117
      @flashburn117 9 лет назад +4

      Exactly. So the point would be that if they were trying to make the game's name Xillia as in Zillia, they would have written it was ジリア or Zi-Ri-A. The エクシ part of Xillia is meant to emphasize the phonetic pronunciation of the letter X as opposed to when the letter X is used in a word which would be like E-Ku-Su.

      @FynnderWander 9 лет назад +1

      Dawn of the new world has the most standard animu love story ever ...and the world feels so small when compared to the original. The whole game was just a big fanservice fest for fans ......and that reflects the quality

    • @LatiasDita
      @LatiasDita 9 лет назад +8

      Fynn To each her/his own, but I much take umbrage with the romance being called "standard." To many video games and anime has the infuriating "cannot spit it out"scenario, preventing the romance from ever really going anywhere.
      In DotNW, it start right off the bat with one character infatuated with the other, but before a love story becomes more of a running gag, character development sets in. The romance is absolutely vital to Emil and Marta's development, two flawed characters helping each other to grown and bring out the best in themselves. The pacing is fantastic as well, even considering the game being relatively short. I also love how it deconstructs and turns the "Manic Pixie Dream Girl" trope on its head.
      The game's small budget shows, but its heart was in the right place. The developers did the best they could with the new cast, their development, interaction with each other and characterization, and the lore in Dawn and how it fits with the overall Aselia timeline. The localizers also put a lot of care into the game, with an excellent script, especially strong in its humor, and great voice-acting, even barring the actors changes for the returning characters. They put real effort into Dawn of the New World, and that show.

    • @FynnderWander
      @FynnderWander 9 лет назад

      StrawberryEggs
      For me the two just had no chemistry with each other. At some point it felt like going through checkboxes of generic romance encounters/Events.
      The comedy was what pulled me trough the game, Tennebrae was awesome.
      The story/setting of the game overall was interesting and the continuity was nice.
      After the original I did want to see how the new world evolves and what problems turn up between the people of sylverant and Thethe'alla. Especially the conflict between humans and halve elfs.
      Richter was an awesome character but they shouldn't have set him up like Kratos 2.0.
      The combat doesn't flow as well as it did in the original. The combat is slower and unresponsive.
      Taming monsters sounds nice in theory but it didn't work well in the game.
      They could have introduced a completely new party of characters with good backstorys/sidequests instead we get tamed monsters and the old cast of the first game dropping in every now and then.
      Those meetings weren't bad I want to add tough.
      Reducing the overworld to a generic map with fast travel was boring and destroyed the exploration that was so prominent in the first game.
      In conclusion a okay story but bad gameplay
      and cheap game design ruined it for me.
      I was hyped for that game and it just did not live up to it for me. Everyone that I know who played the HD remakes feels the same way, even if they started with dotnw. Aafter playing ToS the original there is no doubt which game is better.
      I spent hundred of hours playing through ToS multiple times, looking for secrets and Eastereggs and Sidequests.
      I played DOTNW for the story and then forgot about it.
      While I agree after reading your comment that the devs and the localization did the best they could it doesn't excuse a mediocre to bad game.
      After all Symphonia and Tales of the Abyss are the games that introduced the Tales Series to a lot of people and those people (like me or you idk) still buy those games when they get released and with relative success I might add.
      Symphonia sold relatively well so why did the game get such a small budget in the first place.
      WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!

    • @LatiasDita
      @LatiasDita 9 лет назад +6

      Just have to agree to disagree on Emil and Marta. I'll certainly agree the original ToS is better than DotWN, but I also think the sequel is still a great game in its own right.

      As another commenter pointed out, "inferior" and "inferno" are derived from the same Latin root. The original word was "infernus", which means "below, beneath".

    Tales of the Abyss is also such because the story revolves around the meaning of birth and the complexities of life and death. Yeah, it's one of the darker ones in the series. But equally one of the most awesome and intricate.

    My fave has to be Abyss, it just was a fun game to play thru, the story made sense, and its not so much about beating the big bad evil dude more than it is about differing views and wanting to break away from the old ways and embrace a new one. Zestria might be my 2nd fave, I haven't played it yet but the combat looks nice. Thats one thing with the tales series, the combat is always fun and they always do something new to spice it up, unlike some other long running series that pretty much reuses the story from the 4th game over and over again (Final fantasy)

    I would have to say that Tales of the Abyss is my favorite. I've played many man RPGs in my 29 years, both Western and Japanese, and I feel that none of them come close to the amount of legitimate character development you experience in Abyss. To go from hating the main character to respecting him to loving him takes a vast amount of quality story-telling to garner that kind of investment. And the themes of the game itself were gripping, intense, and often very relate-able. Best Tales game overall and one of my favorite games of all time :D

    My gavorite is Tales of Symphonia, my husband (back then closest friend) showed it to me after a friend commented that we reminded her of Zelos and Sheena. I didn't know who they were and then he showed me the game. It was my first Tales game, and I did relate to he characters in one way or another. Holds a special place in my heart.

    But... I LIKE turn-based RPG's. Some of the classic turn-based RPG's, yes, they were a bit slow largely due to the technology at the time. Turn-based RPG's nowadays are kinda nonexistent and its disappointing because they're amazing. Turn-based RPG's do take a step back and give you more breathing room, but that's a good thing. I don't really like button-mashing that much.
    Tales is one of the very FEW action-based RPG franchises I actually like. The main problems I have with action-based RPG's is they revolve more around button-mashing than actual strategy, and strategic planning is the main reason I love the genre.
    Favorite JRPG? Lufia II: Curse of the Sinistrals. No random battles, amazing puzzles, AMAZING battle system, its all just epic. I might conisder suggesting Golden Sun: The Lost Age if Nintendo would just add it to the eShop. Even then Lufia II probably would still top it since the one problem with classic turn-based RPG's Golden Sun fails at is random battles.

      JaidynReiman I love turn-based ones too. I'm having trouble getting used to the new Final Fantasy's. Try something like Tales of The Abyss on hard mode though. I usually find myself hitting the start button which allows me to input commands to tell my teammates which Arte to use which gives a feeling of strategy. At least to me anyways. I'll have Anise set up a FOF, have Natalia cast Revive on Luke, then Tear buff the party, have Luke use the FOF, use Overlimit to keep the enemy stunned, use his Mystic Arte and absolutely wreck my foes with a stun lock. The best part is the enemy won't straight up die so now you have to focus on keeping your team alive as you need to set it all up again.

      I haven't tried any of the Tales games on Hard mode, really. I think the one game I did that for was Xillia, and the only reason I replayed through that one was because I wanted to make sure I played both Milla and Jude's stories. And I got through Xillia hard quite easy, though I'm pretty sure there were higher difficulties than that.

    • @bryd4881
      @bryd4881 9 лет назад

      JaidynReiman I only play on very hard since unknown, which is the hardest, is impossible for me. I get owned when I'm nearly winning. I'd recommend hard mode just for getting the hang of it. I straight up died when I went straight to very hard. Since it sounds like you're quite good though, you can probably do it. And if you're brave, go for unknown.

      yeah the main character goes through a change of personality from
      being a spoiled sheltered prince -> the brat who sinked an entire city and blames his master -> getting scorned by his allies and losing their trust -> depressed but then with the female lead's push decides to face the consequences and atone -> goes through the final atonement and became a hero
      the female lead (Tear Grants) is the true star of this game. Her relationship with the main is what makes the story amazing :D

    My fave= tales of zestiria. Why? All games use tropes n clichés (some unbearably overused even which defines clichés of course) but u see audience won't really understand anything completely original (if there is such a thing) since the very concept of game hinges on that. I mean games are played according to rules n expectations, n gamers have to make choices, guesses (intelligent or otherwise) to survive. So u put in something so alien to convention n audience will complain. Like in tales of zestiria games complained about slow story, clichés yaoi vibes etc... but they like a so-cliché plot where MC gets cozy with the princess (what super Mario bros ancient history??? wtf) and while they welcome genocide and right, all the other isms that deal with death gore cannibalism (???) they start complaining when there's homoeroticism, yaoi, n BL. Some games said gays in games will never happen even 20 yrs from now becoz straight guys will NEVER play gay characters--wtf THAT sounds like ancient history evenb Shakespeare's gay n he was able to make a name for himself with his gayish sonnets... So I think until games evolve with the gamers, we'd be in the dark ages far longer than sorey slept to "purify" the world. Thank god there's mikleo... uhh why? becoz he's the only character in a game who manages to escape easy categorizations... so I think if only for him I give tales of zestiria a thumbs up. Guts and Griffith in berserk I ship but then I was shot down in 3 seconds n my comments downgraded... Ufotable apologist anime version of tales of zestiria is a sorry testimony of how stories are re-done to please angry fans who pay to see their conventional expectations confirmed... so now u get MC + princess. Also I dnt get why Judeo-Christian refernces being bashed when used but norse slavicn greek are so overOVERused in marvel, dc, RPGs n no one gives a damn about it...
    I guess when someone in the commnets below say game theory fanbase is autistic, he's insulting not the fanbase but autistic people out there. They're a lot better human beings than we are who overrate our wisdom and claim we r original but are definitely not.

    His prediction missed, Berseria... not much debate or thought provoking in any way female protagonist going berserk like in Drakengard 3, yeah i don't like where the franchise is going. Once there was tragedy but some hope for the futue, now it is forced tragedy and with little meaning, Xillia 2 was disgusting in ho wmuch tragedy they put and in zestiria not much of a chracter for the villains.

    • @darthfrodo7
      @darthfrodo7 8 лет назад +4

      Putting Berseria and Xillia 2 aside (though I totally agree with you about Xillia 2), if there's any sort of defense that could be given for Zestiria, it's that the anime is currently fixing some of the big problems the original game had in terms of how the characters are handled and the story's overall grander sense of an epic scale during each major event. I haven't played the actual Zestiria game, but I've been comparing the game's cutscenes to the anime's respective episodes. In regards to both the heroes and villains, I've been noticing various aspects of characterization in the anime that were either sorely lacking in the game or were newly added in to make many of the characters more interesting and/or likable (i.e. the "Fox Guy" being more of a wild card and less restrained by the other assassins; the Gramps seraphim actually warming up to Alisha over time; Alisha actually having character/emotions to begin with).
      Long story short, in my personal opinion, the Zestiria anime's story is ironically feeling more like an actual "Tales of" story than the original game's was.

      True though we have to wait and see how this will go because it would seem they are trying to shove in the story of TWO games that have little conection, the world doesn't feel the same in terms of their working, yes a lot can change in 1000 years but we are talking about the basic workings of a world and even in a 1000 years people wouldn't forget about a disease that can turn you into a monster among other things.
