Xillia and Graces f were my first. I played them back to back. So they will always have a place in my heart and I do think I would buy a nice Remaster and replay them. Abyss is the one I REALLY want to have remastered. I missed it back then and never got around to play it later

I absolutely agree with this list.
Specially with the Xillia series.
The animations and action were too good on it's time that the ps3 hardware itself is struggling.
The gameplay slowdown wasn't gamebreaking but definitely was heartbreaking as the combat gameplay could've been flawless imo.
Also for me, I also agree with Abyss' story being one of the best among the series and Graces F to be the one of the best combat among the series.
The Xillia duology would be such a great choice due to it being such a good fit for people who may have started with Tales of Arise. It has a fair number of similar mechanics and features along with some familiar predecessors to characters you would have played in Arise. While I feel like people are a bit split on which of the two they prefer, the favorite for each person frequently ends up in their top 3-5 Tales games, with Xillia 2 actually being my overall favorite prior to Arise. X2 took kind of a weird, seemingly gimmicky or fanfic-like premise and actually made me like it by the end, along with a really tight update to the pretty decent Xillia combat setup preceeding it. Just 2 things to note about these games:
1: If you play Xillia 1 START WITH JUDE. Like its successor, Scarlet Nexus, you can choose which MC to start the game as (though you get them both almost immediately anyway), but I've never seen anyone really argue that it's better to start on Milla's path. Her path is more focused on things going in with her and in the background of certain characters. Jude's is a more broadly party-focused version of the story better fitting a first run.
2: Xillia 2's main protagonist does have voice acting for all his lines, but it has to be switched on as a NG+ feature. Can't provide a reason for this, just thought it was worth noting.
Abyss, I would agree on for the same exact reason. I still cannot play Abyss, and I'd be willing to try, even if its combat is considered a bit dry in some ways. The 'holy trinity' is so-called because the three popular entries were spread across the 3 major platforms and drew in avid fans from all side of the gaming universe, and it's a shame so many later ones were mainly PS3/4 entries.
Rebirth does look really good and I think I'd give that one a shot for sure if it did get a remaster. :)
For the record Eric Landon RPG has always promoted Millia’s path over Jude’s. I haven’t played it yet, but your reason why Jude may be better is interesting to me.
@@redstratus97 : I think I remember that a little now you mention it. :) I've also heard it said by a few that they felt Milla's path 'spoiled' them a bit on some developments, since like SN, it follows the character's perspective, though I think the most accurate way to describe why people prefer playing Milla second is that it reveals more stuff that may be more interesting on a repeat run.
The game does sell you pretty hard on Milla given the two scenes that showcase your choices though. XD Bumbling medical student or intensely focused mystical goddess? I think it's possible to LIKE her path more if you really like Milla. The path is very Milla-centric, but the argument for Jude is primarily with regard to a first playthrough.
Tales of the Abyss can still be had on 3DS for not too expensive. However you are 100% correct it needs to be on modern platforms. I would also like to see Tales of Eternia brought to modern platforms. I remember buying the European import copy of the PSP version at a vendor at Otakon since it wasn't released in North America. I think it also would be a great release or maybe a PS Plus Premium game.

Personally I would like to see Graces F and both Xillia games on switch, and maybe the 3DS version of The abyss.
I will sacrifice a young goat for a Phantasia remaster. It's criminal that the only western release we got was that terrible GBA version. The PSX version absolutely slaps it out of the water.

As a fan of Team Symphonia I would definitely love to see a remaster of Tales of Abyss even just a port.
My choice for a remake though would be Tales of Legendia, as that game had a lot of rough edges but was overall still an enjoyable game. Also as an Australian I had to go through many trials to get a hacked PS2 just to play out of region games as the game only released in Japan and North America.
If they remake Legendia (boy I hope they do), I hope they better integrate the later part of the game and give it actual VO.
I still can't believe I missed out on Tales of Xillia when I was younger thinking it was gonna be easy to pick up in the future

I would argue that Tales of Destiny(the remade version that wasn't localized) should be remastered and localized to be released globally.
And Destiny 2 too 👀

100% agree with Rebirth and Phantasia. Destiny also deserves the full remake treatment since it was never localized. Innocence R deserves some love for how a great story it is. There's the fan translation for the DS version, but not the Vita port. The others in this list I'd argue they don't really need a remaster, but rather a port. Either to modern systems or to PC. Imagine having the full Tales series on PC. Legitimate copies, not the thing we don't talk about.
The reason I say a port instead of a remaster is because they are fine just the way they are. Especially those from PS2 to current. Sure there were odd choices, or the battle system was a little weird (looking at Graces F with that dual fighting switch style), but they honestly just need small tweaks to be bearable in today's landscape.
I'd love to see modern remakes of the DS-turned-Vita games, Hearts/R and Innocence/R
They both came out on Vita, but Hearts wasn't dubbed, and Innocence wasn't even localized, making them very hard to go back to. Which is a shame, because Hearts has some of the best game play in that style in the series, (even better than Vesperia, though it's been a while, so I don't remember why exactly. It just felt better in my opinion)

Though ai don't usually like to come back to games I've already finished, Tales of Phantasia has a special place in my heart and I would definitely love to see a remaster of it. As a kid who couldn't freely play video games, I used to play it on a GBA emulator and I was totally immersed in the game.
I think we've all been in that situation at one point or another! I'm glad you got to experience Phantasia, though a remaster would be absolutely incredible!

I primary gamed on a 360 during that generation so I really want to see those PS3 exclusives you mentioned put on modern platforms and hopefully switch.

Tales of Hearts R should really get a Switch/PS4/PS5 port. It's a crime that it's locked to the PS Vita

I love Hearts R! I hope they do bring it forward, and with it, give it a full English voice localization. I love the Japanese voices, especially Beryl, but man it feels really out of place with so many other games in the series having full English.
If any one of these got announced, it would be a day-one buy, no question.
With Baten Kaitos getting a remaster this year in addition to Symphonia, my hope is that Bamco is finally going to make a push to make their titles available on modern platforms.
Heck, the Holy Trinity have never all been on the same console as one another before, and far too many games in this series have had exactly one release, ever

Selfishly, I would love Abyss anything. Remaster, remake, sequel, just give me more Abyss. ;-;
I feel like the PS3 titles don’t even need much beyond QOL updates - just port them to modern consoles and Steam with those (and Switch it possible). And I would love a port of the PSX titles (including the PSX Phantasia) just so they were available to modern players. I’d much rather a port than a mobile game that’s just going to get cancelled a year later.
I played Tales of the Abyss on 3DS knowing absolutely nothing and just picked it off the shelf one day and it's now one of my favorite games of all time so getting an HD remaster on home consoles would be a dream come true for me, another game you didn't mention that I would like to add is the PS2 version of Tales of Destiny as apparently from what I hear it's an even better version of that game and I never played either so an official US release would be amazing.
Now there is a english fan translation patch for this game

Boy I can't stress enough how I want to play Rebirth so much even if I have to wait for n fan eng translated patch to be finished. thou I def love for Graces and both Xillia games to get more love

just finished my first tales game this week with Tales of Phantasia and I totally agree it needs a new remaster or remake! I'm already well into Tales of Destiny and I'm absolutely loving it :)
Both one of my best friends and I are on the Series X, and while there are just a few Tales games on it, we’ve been talking about how badly we need so many more on there. Like Xillia 1 and 2, Zestiria and Berseria, Graces, and the PS2 games like Abyss and Legendia as well. Really the whole series. Xbox really needs to pick up the slack on Tales. Fortunately, it is getting the new Symphonia remaster as well at least. (Also, Rebirth REALLY needs to be localized.)
I just love this series so much. I have at least one copy of every English release, and I also imported a Japanese copy of Innocence as incentive to try to help myself learn Japanese. Just to flex, I also bought a copy of Destiny on the PS1 that didn’t come with the jewel case, just the disc. I found someone on Etsy that made 100% authentic-looking fan recreations of the original jewel case and even the manual. One of my proudest gaming purchases, it looks incredible!
Nice list! I personally loved Tales of Graces f, I know the main character is kind of bland, but everything else was extremely enjoyable to me.
Asbel was more fun and interesting as a kid compared to when he grew up oddly enough.

The PS4 was my first Playstation console, so I never got to play Tales of Graces F or the Xillia games. Those are the ones I'm wishing for the most!
I actually picked up a 2ds recently, and one of the main reasons was so I could play abyss, actually started it last night and I'm loving it!

I have such fond memories of Abyss. I started it when I got my wisdom teeth taken out, crashing on my friend’s couch and playing Abyss on my 3DS. I’ve sadly never finished it, but I’m really far into it. I need to buckle down and do it sometime!
Just give me a western release of Rebirth, Destiny(the directors cut) and Destiny 2. I'll be a happy fan for a good while, since these are the titles that I haven't played or had the time to try and emulate correctly due to half finished English patches. And Phantaisa could use a remake only on the grounds that the combat isn't something that jived with me due to how slow it is and not having a good air combat to fight those damned BEES!!!!! (hehe). Also, due to the fact that first games after this long should be brought back for those that weren't even cognitive when it released, but that's just me *shrugs*
I applaud you for being the only person in the comment feed to be of culture. Destiny is the single one title of the whole franchise that needs a more accessible version; and it could be made a dual pack with 2 like that symphonia set that was the LAST time they re-released it. 🤦♂️
The fact that the recent release of symphonia DIDN'T have the second story in that series was kind of slap on top of the fact they did symphonia AGAIN in the first place. 😄
I would LOVE to see destiny 1 and 2 made as a whole arc in a single title remake, but that's a dream. So, I'll settle for a remake of destiny 1 that's at least on par with arise. 🤩😍
Great choices! Graces f and Xillia 1/2 were my first Tales games so I have a special connection to them. I'd love Tales of Rebirth, Tales of Destiny 2 and Tales of Innocence to get remasters, those ones have always intrigued me. I'm in the weird minority in that I don't particularly like Symphonia or Vesperia but I'm glad they're at least getting released on modern platforms.
The combat in Tales of Graces F goes unreasonably hard
Abyss and Xillia 2 are personal favorites. Wouldn't mind playing them again on PC.
I'd love to see a remaster of Tales of Legendia. Not the best game by any standard, but it was my first Tales game.
Played Symphonia, Abyss and Legendia back in my PS2. Played both Xillias too on PS3. Played Vesperia, Zestiria and Beseria on PS4, last year finished Arise. Maan, i love this series, can't wait the next one, i hope they would still consider PS4 port for the next one while focusing for the PS5 😩 They are on the right track with full Unreal Engine.

I agree with all of your list, however I would add Tales of Legendia. The second half of Legendia (Character Quest) never had voice acting. Also, they could refine the eres system (spells). Legendia is still one of my favorite because of the soundtrack (thanks to Go Shiina) and the character interaction. The battle system is still clunky and maybe they could add something to drop the random encounter rate, but I still love it. I'm probably nostalgically biased. 😅 PS: I'm still surprised that Abyss never had a remaster (but rather a demake on the 3DS lol), because it's always the most popular one in Japan. Same thing for the character Luke fon Fabre. 😁
Legendia easily has the best soundtrack in the series, it is simply incredible.

Legendia is incredible to me largely because of the simple fact it’s got actual musical sections in the story lol. It’s so wild.
Graces F is the Goat for combat.
Berseria best story.
Xillia is super accessible and super fun.
Symphonia, Abyss and Vesperia are just fantastic.
Zesteria was just OK.
No tales game can compare with how deep and sad abyss story was and the character development is on another level .. jade was my favourite 😍 its the only tales game i can play more than 2x times

I'm an oddball, but I'd really like to see a Tales of Zestiria remaster or re-release. I think the world and combat of that game were grossly overlooked... Likely because the story was pretty bad. But everything else was good

I just hope when they make remastered games they also improve a bit of the look and sprinkle in additional side quests or mechanic. Or maybe just make a sequel unless the story doesn't fit.
Oh don't even get me started on this topic. I'm very annoyed they chose Symphonia yet again to be the first remaster attempt after implying they'd do more after Arise when so many games are stuck more inaccessible platforms. And then the added barrier of some being Japan only on top of that. It's my very favorite RPG series, so i just want more. Symphonia is cool and all but I got the remaster on steam a couple years ago for like $20, others definitely needed it more.
The most inaccessible is the psp games radiant mythology.

I absolutely agree with the list except for Phantasia, it could be added in NSO or... played in every device known to man thanks to being an (originally at least) SNES game.

i just love all tales games i have played, i have played from Tales of Vespiria onwards i want Tales of Graces F to be Remade already its my favorite one.

Still got my 3ds copy of Tales of the Abyss. Altho was not a fan of Luke. Loved Jade Curtis (probably my 2nd favourite non main character in a jrpg after Auron in FFX)
I want To:Destiny soooo badly to come to switch if at least just made more accessible in some form. As for that sentiment, I would also like star Ocean 2 to be made more accessible as well past that psp port of it. (Seeing as both franchises were birthed by the same person, I feel it's relevant 😅)
Any game that either didn't come west or was before the PS3 would be great to me. I've already played all the ones that came out there. That's why the new Symphonia remaster feels kinda disappointing for me atleast. Also the dolls on their shoulders in that Xillia 2 cutscene looked hilarious. Lol.
Also the ability to unlock literal model swapping for X2 characters was just.... funny as hell. XD
All games need to be re-released. I would like to have acess to abyss first. strange world where the atelier games 2 are ahed of tales in games conservation.
I agree with all of these with the exception of tales of graces F. It's a big huge personal story about it but to make a long story short combat is fine but I don't think the characters are that strong and the narrative is pretty weak. That being said I would like to bring up a counter to this and would suggest that I would love if tales of destiny remake were to come out instead. I know we have the original playstation one version of tales of destiny but like my friend and I have been discussing it would be great if we had the remake that was on PS2 instead because it has the CC system just like tales of graces F has it but done way better and it also has really good sprite work. Plus it's another Japanese only tales game that never got a chance to be released in the US. Aside from that every other game on this list I agree with you especially the duology and especially tales of the abyss. That was my 1st Tales game growing up and I have a lot of sentimental value with that specific game and the fact that it's never been re released outside of a 3-D S version but meanwhile you have Vesperia getting A PS4, PC and Switch versions and symphonia getting another re release AGAIN! I always felt it was disappointing that Abyss never got a chance to be remade. Overall with the exception of graces FI definitely agree with this list 110% and you can tell I was very disappointed when I found out that the one game they decided to remaster again would be symphonia and none of the other titles that they have already that never been released in the States or even saw a remaster or a re release. Still a solid list Alex!
You can play graces f and xillia on emulator with a nice reshade and perfect smooth gameplay and it'll look better then a remaster would tbh. I'm actually replaying graces f and xillia on rpcs3 right now, RUclips always knows aha

@@BacklogBattle fair enough, I like the console experience. But If you hook up the computer to your tv it's a similar experience but I get what you're saying. It would be nice to have an actual remastered version of the game on your preferred console. Just throwing it out there for people who don't know that it's an option.
rpcs3 is still in a terrible state for 99% of pc setups and unless it was a terrible remaster that barely works emulation is worse in every way that is not even counting the fact consoles miss out
The Xillias need one for the sole fact that they are locked down on the ps3 currently.
Rebirth is a wonderful entry, but instead of Graces, I would suggest Eternia as both instances of localized releases weren't...optimal and could use a better re-release. If anyone got into Tales from Arise and enjoyed its story, these two titles would be good 2nd/3rd games to play.
Phantasia is an interesting case here. It has seen a number of releases over the years, yet the 2 times English audiences got it, it was hot garbage. For an ideal global remaster, I'd say either versions on the psp would suffice, with a few updates. Some would argue for a full remake in line with modern, 3D Tales of games, but it'll be tough, but not impossible. Early 2D Tales, especially ToP, are different beasts in terms of gameplay to translate for modern sensibilities.
Oh, and this should be obvious, but every non-English released Tales game not yet named should also get a chance in the West as well.
Yeah i certainly wouldn't want 3d remakes. The classic style still has it's place and I'm generally annoyed that the "remake any game older than me to be like games younger than me" mindset is so prevalent.
The only remaster from this list that would unironically surprise me would be Rebirth.
I'd heard that they were planning to release the original in the West but held off because they were worried the themes of racism would be too much, and I thought they were being silly until I actually played through it.
Given how the conversation around race in the West has only grown touchier since then, it's not something I can really imagine happening.
Great list. I think any of these being remastered would be a very positive thing for the fan base and JRPG fans in general.

I'd change Abyss (already has a port on 3DS 👀) for Destiny 1 and 2. The former has a remaster for PS2 for some reason neither that one nor the latter came out Japan 😫 and as a matter of fact, it shares the same graphic style with Rebirth 👀 making it another reason to have a port in current gen. consoles and PC. And a port of the PSP version of Eternia too

Tales of Arise doesn't feel like a Tales game to me. They changed the battle system too much.

@@BacklogBattle Tales of Berseria. The LMB there evolved to just the right point for me (the default became 3D movement, but when you lock-on to an enemy it's still linear combat), Velvet is a great character and I love Sato Rina so having her voice Velvet is a major plus for me.
Why yall asking for the same stuff like I'm 30 years old and want radiant mythology to come back I want a rematch with widdershin.
I've never been able to get into the Tales games. I've tried, but I just have no appreciation for the series. Berseria is probably the best, but even it just doesn't do anything for me.

Phantasia and Eternia 2D remake. That being said 90% of the franchise aren’t easily accessed by modern audiences. It’s poorly preserved.
I have been playing Tales of the Abyss in the last few weeks (haven't finished yet, but near the very end), and I do like it, but man I feel like it's so overrated. Mainly because of the last third of the game. The pacing it's so bad in this part. If you don't do sidequest, most of the time you just keep going from one city to the other, having little pieces of the plot, with a few fights in the middle. And I still don't like Luke, I don't care about Anise or Natalia either, but I like Guy and Tear, and I love Jade, he's the best character by far.
I can agree with the pacing, that’s unfortunately the reason I haven’t finished it yet lol. I love the game otherwise, even all the characters, but the story needs to grip me again like it did earlier on.
my picks would be dawn of the new world and abyss since vesperia has been on modern consoles for awhile now and those three are the only good worthwhile tales of games at least when it comes to the action based ones cant think of any other action based tales of game ive already played that i enjoyed enough to even consider rebuying again on switch or pc for tales of has been dead since vesperia that was the last game that didnt lock crap behind dlc or tie new game plus to the crappy achievement/trophy systems this right here is a huge reason ive hated tales of games since xillia
Good list though Graces F isn't as good as everyone claims, but that's my opinion as I am not a fan of artes trees. But I would like to see all of the main Tales of games that weren't released here get remastered or localized first. I love the titles that did get localized, especially Abyss. But, Destiny Remake/DC, Rebirth, Destiny 2 and the Japanese version of Legendia needs to happen.
I do find it interesting that Bandai Namco hasn't jumped on the remaster bandwagon fully and has taken a slower approach with these than expected, especially since a lot of new fans coming out of Arise want more Tales games to play!

I don't agree simply because yall talking bout games that can still be played or acquired rather easily yall sleeping on the franchise since none mention radiant mythology one of the best rpg tales games in terms of story, character development and more.
