Im Mexican and native through my mother's side Thanksgiving is being greatful and thankful to god or the holy spirit whatever your beliefs are for all that you have in this life . Thanksgiving is gratitude !!!!!
I agree with you John, and believe it’s okay to have this day for gratitude, which obviously does not mean we aren’t grateful other days of the year. Wishing you and yours a blessed and peaceful Thanksgiving. 🌻
I never Celebrated Christopher Columbus either Nor believed in what they said about him... Not into His Story at all.. Although, kinda feel Bad about the Celebration of Thanksgiving tho.. I just looked at it as Giving Thanks and Family Time. Food gatherings.. So ALL these Holidays are based on lies and lack of information I see..... Interesting learning much of this.
Why is the black news channel asking a "five dollar Indian" about the Thanksgiving day holiday, when he correctly spoke about it being a massacre, then brushed past the violence and trauma to say "but native Americans still celebrate the day". None of this makes any sense to me.
@@colinreese OK, duh, but who brought the African slave and, more importantly, who did the African slave catch the disease from? Did the African slave jump into a boat and sail over the Atlantic by himself -- I mean he was a slave, right? Too bad the African slave wasn't able to have 1st class tickets on the luxury cruise line. Also, I'd like to know where you get your African slave "patient-zero" information from, I've never heard of this story before - it just isn't possible to trace the widespread virus tranmission to one individual, especially with 16th-century science/medicine (and record keeping)?
@@DonOneDetroit It’s not my fault that you don’t know basic world history and don’t know archeological information that’s over 20 years old. The African in Cuba with small pox information is from Charles Mann. Africans have natural immunity to smallpox because Eurasia and Africa are close to each other and interact with one another. Small pox is a disease and not a product of “the white man.” Slavery is a universal phenomenon throughout history, and it’s not my fault that your ancestors thought slavery was fine as long as they themselves weren’t slaves. The abolition of slavery is a unique historic event and product of the West, which Africans have been a part of for 400 years. A genocide is when a whole people are purposely killed and not when they die from a disease, even though later small pox blankets were certainly a terrible reality. I feel like people who aren’t white feel like it’s ok to demonize white people and act like your history was devoid of slavery, empires, conquests, etc. I also don’t know why you think ancient civilizations and prior civilizations weren’t excellent record keepers. You’re whole worldview is essentially “The Myth of the Noble Savage” popularized by the Enlightenment thinkers after they read Columbus’ description of the Taíno. I’m not sure why they skipped the description of the Carib. The overarching point here is that you have this fundamental misunderstanding of world history where you attribute human vices to the white man. Have you ever heard of Genghis Khan?

The biblical Feast of Thanksgiving is Sukkot. Not Nov 24th. Also the Biblical Feast is SOOO much better in every way and it is not just 1 day but 8. : )
“Native Americans definitely waged war long before Europeans showed up. The evidence is especially strong in the American Southwest, where archaeologists have found numerous skeletons with projectile points embedded in them and other marks of violence; war seems to have surged during periods of drought.” from Scientific American, 2010
I'm not sure that's relevant. Actually, that's not true. I'm sure that's it's not relevant. Saying native people wages war before pilgrims is akin to minimizing/justifying racially motivated crimes by whites against black people cwith the "what about black on black crime" line. They're unrelated.
I'm gonna challenge the idea that it's progress for 2 people of color discussing this issue. That's been happening for 150 plus years. Until the perpetrators join the discussion and take ownership of and accountability for their atrocities nothing can or will change
Maybe not today but one day African American will remember there true identity. Truth be told most native names are french. That means Natives were given those names by foreigners. Questions is what was there true name and in what language did they speak . Example Seminole means runaway which describe those who literally ran from war to relocate. Point is that term doesn't describe a tribe only an action. Oconee massacre in Fl those were blk people Native American. Tuskegee massacre those were blk people Native American. Yamassee Natives were blk people. I can easily name 20 blk native American tribes that were renamed and relocated due to massacres. Issa tribe blk Native.

95% of Native Americans died from small pox before they came in contact with Europeans after an African slave with smallpox landed in Cuba in 1514.
