Nobody Knows The government should return all the land, and in places where that's not feasible, pay market price for it and back pay for every year it has been stolen and then pay rent to each band who owns the land the government has colonized until the land is returned. Every square inch of it. Then restitution should be paid for the genocide, residential "schools" and the forced migration of Natives to reserves that are not on traditional lands, because they've built cities there. Once they've paid all that back rent, all hunting/trapping/fishing/gathering rights should be restored. Natives should be fully self governing and be emancipated from bigoted legislation like the Indian Act. The government should then provide apologies. Once that's done, they can keep their pennies in contribution to reserves, because they'll be paying for what they've stolen, rather than attempting to appease Natives with small increments. So yeah. I'd be fine with that.

Nobody Knows Lmfao. You are saying nope like anyone actually gives a shit what you think.. That's hilarious. You are so grossly misinformed that I don't even care what you wrote. It's all just bullshit. Lol.. Oh, you really gave me a laugh with your "nope".. Like your opinion actually matters. Haha. Good one

    • @jademoon7938
      @jademoon7938 6 лет назад +12

Nobody Knows Was that an attempt at a compelling comeback? Meh. Turns out you're only unintentionally hilarious... Again, I really don't care what your opinion is, it's entirely uninformed and inconsequential. You literally don't matter and have no impact on the subject. Thankfully. I hope your bigotry is slapped down at every expression and your opinion continues to be meaningless while no one pays you any mind. I'm not wasting any more time on replying to the comments I didn't even bother reading in full. You're the stereotypical American that makes the world hate America. Nice contribution to society bro.

Never trust any entity with governing power. Power corrupts. It's human nature. Human history is filled with governments that had power over people, wanted more power because they, (the small elite) were afraid of losing their power. Those in power always resort to violence in order to sustain it. Always.

First of all, as a Native American, no one owns this land. We belong to the land, the land feeds us, takes care of us all. How can someone own their mother? In the early 20th century in Oklahoma when oil was found on Native land the Natives became wealthy along with the well drillers. Pissed off a lot of Belagana (Navajo noun for white man.)
Now when sTrumpet wanted tax exemption for his casinos he said "Why are Indians casinos not taxed? Some Indians I have seen don't look Indian." The congressmen said to he was glad that most people don't judge people by their appearances and was denied tax exemption.
There have been a common practice from the federal government to have Native Americans turn on each other for the advancement of private non Indian companies and governments to take advantage due Indians not being united. Take for instance of Leech Lake Indian Reservation in MN. In order to obtain Indian land they parceled the land out to individual band members, who the white people would not hire for jobs, they were poor so they sold their land and thus lost it to the whites. Now Red Lake Indian Nation will not even let white people even fish on the land without written permission and a guide, as it should be.
As is was told by my elders, be kind to the white man because they are OUR guests, we will be here long after they are gone.
As fare as Eva Ewald is concerned she is what we call and "Apple" red on the outside and white on inside. Siding with the Predator in Chief is idiotic. He cares for no one but himself, lying sack of shit.

As a Native (Seneca Nation in NY), I know we are down from 100% of the American population to .5 % of the American population, my meaning is this: Our voice is seldom heard, our needs not focused on. Thank you Van Jones for giving a platform for those views of those peoples touch by the loss of Bears Ears. In my view Obama meant well in his heart, that I can stand with.

Puglous, Interesting take and I can see how you'd form it. But it is not the truth. Natives get stepped on by the U.S. Government (present administration) because they lack the votes and voice to garner the attention of the American people. Who understandably are caught up in the circus of Trump world. Native oppression is no myth, it goes on across the U.S. even in my little rez as NYS breaks treaties on tax collection from casinos.

Janet Masiello you sound slow. Obama is the one who have you guys back the land. Trunk is the one who came and took the land back 85%of it. Trump has hated Native Americans for what back. He did not even wanted Indians to have casinos. Then he had a commercial going drafting that the Indians doesn't pay taxes. I did not voted for that. This man has no love for the native Americans ND your Fool to believe so.

WASHINGTON - The Americas were first discovered by an Italian explorer named Christopher Columbus in 1492. This discovery became one of the greatest discoveries in the world. Today, the Americas are inhabited by more than 1 billion people. History records, long before Columbus came to this continent, there was a Muslim explorer named Mansa Abubakari II from the Mali Empire. He landed on the American continent in 1312. Apart from that, another interesting history of the continent is the existence of the indigenous inhabitants of the American continent, the Cherokee Indians, who embraced Islam.

Thank you for paying attention to Native voices. I have my personal beliefs, but I just appreciate the opportunity you gave for Natives to be heard. It saddens me that this is so rare, and that we are so invisible and silent to the majority, unless they're hijacking our culture or being viciously racist. So thank you. I hope this isn't a one shot deal. This land is our mother, we respect the land that gave us life, that cared for our people for thousands of years. Our cultures don't believe in land OWNERship, but STEWARDship. That is, we each exist for a fraction of a second on the land, and you can't own something that lives for hundreds of billions of years, but you can respect it and do your best to honour it. That's all Native people want in terms of land. The ability to live freely and respect the earth you walk upon, to leave as little a mark as possible, so future generations may enjoy the same.

Most people do not realize that the American Government made 100's of treaties with Indian Tribes which predate the United States Constitution and the Northwest Ordinance (1787) These Treaties were made, in some cases to avoid a war, and in other cases after fighting (the French Indian War) We honored these treaties to some extent but the newly forming States would constantly interfere with the Indian lands which pre-empt their statehood.. In one case an Indian farmer was exempted from paying property taxes to the county because his land was passed down to him from his descendent's who got the land by treaty. Indian Casinos are a product of these treaties and can exist without States approval on Indian land. When manifest destiny carried into the wild west we made more treaties, however, these treaties were made with a defeated peoples or "nation" if you prefer and were intended to isolate the tribes from the settlers. The States and the feds now have sour grapes because they thought the land was worthless--sorry boys. Obama's declaration of National Monument Status to 2,000.000 acres, some of which was under treaty was an attempt to steal from the Indians and not in any way an act of kindness. The Indians own the mineral rights and the land. Now we are engaged in a real battle over land and rights. Treaties supercede United States Law. My favorite case is the Louisiana Children Services case in which it was decided that the Indians should have their own juvenile courts to protect their children. WHY- you might ask--Because the Louisiana Department of Children Services were stealing their children and adopting them out on the flimsiest of grounds and the federal courts stopped it. Now most tribes have their own court system for children and matters which arise on their reservation. While some states and jurisdictions continue to try and screw the Indians, as Obama did, the Indians in many cases have the upper hand, as they should. Declaring their land a national monument, forest, park or whatever is depriving the Indians of their right to the territory they control. In conclusion, I back the Indians 100%. MAGA

This was the Indians land. Our ancestors came across the ocean looking for a place to build a life. And took what ever they wanted. They had no respect for the inhabitants and never did. The indian people where humiliated, killed, treated like animals, kicked off their land and forced onto land nobody else wanted. And still more and more was taken from them. Our government needs to work out something with these people that will enable them to build factories and make jobs, i don't have the answers but someone smarter than i , our government worki ng with their leaders to do what ever it take to help their Nation get on their feet and built their communities so they can be self efficient, not gambling where there are criminals with their noses in their business. Our leaders need to be trust worthy and truthfull in dealing with them and stay out of their business and land. We have no business drilling or running pipelines or anything else on their land! If they are a sovereign Nation .there are far to much addiction out of hopelessness, and lack of jobs.help them help theirselves, give their children hope for a future and the people the means to show their children how wonderfull their Nation was and could be again
Give back to the American Indians what they need to be self sustaining! Like i said, i don't have the answers but i do think we owe these people way more than they've been given.

If you are not Native, you don't know our struggles. If you are white, you will never fully understand how historical trauma permanently affects us. Unless you are Native, what you say has no bearing on us bc, as stated before, you don't know. Your words do not hurt or define us. We see you as ignorant bc you speak as if "get over it" or "your people lost" concerns you, rest assured, it doesn't. These are OUR concerns. For those who speak as if they do know, when really you only know what has been taught to you, I don't think you could ever make it as OUR people have! We are the strongest of the strong. We aren't going anywhere, and if you think your opinions and words hurt, think again. It's just noise to us, bc you aren't fully aware how we managed to beat a government, whose sole purpose was to exterminate us all by ridding us with diseases, poison and sticking us in the most desolate places thinking we would perish or just "go away". This is our people's land and we were and are NEVER going anywhere!

Wait a minute, who are “this lands original owners”, that are spoken about, just because you are present in a place does not mean ownership, ownership comes with development, otherwise you are just a bum, you establish and develop and make productive as a way and a stance against the bum, free for all mentality that continually tries to encroach and pollute and destroy the development that keeps us all clean and safe, so this lands original owners are those that came in and developed the land, these others that you so love to speak of are just a bunch of vagabond bums, kinda like the ones pressing on our southern border, if you love their ideology so much, then go join them and we will wall you out too, just sayin if you disagree with our ways and hate our constitution then denounce your citizenship and move out.

Here is a painful stat, 2015 census data reports Native Americans make up only 2% of the population. Of that 2%, 40% of those Native Americans living on reservations live below the poverty line, for those living off reservation it's 26%. That's the highest of any group, including African Americans. I mention African Americans because the comparable poverty rate is consistent with indicators that suggest oppression and inequality. In other words, there is no reason, Native Americans who inhabited this territory before colonization for thousands of years possibly should in this era living at this level of poverty. Poverty rates are only this high when some outside influence is actively in control of where the resources end up. That means even if Native Americans were lacking in education, intelligence, skill and any other biased limitation you wish to attribute to them, they still wouldn't be this poor. You can only be this poor when someone is robbing you of what you're rightfully entitled to.
I read in the comments where someone was saying the land doesn't belong to anyone and I agree BUT, if the land has sustained you and your people for thousands of years, it is by default your ancestral home and if anyone should be benefitting from its resources, it is the people who have maintained those lands

The leadership of this nation should make an immediate effort, at least
as great as the one recently made towards tax reform, towards negative
living conditions/ poverty issues having to do with the Native American
    tribes.
    Solutions needed.
*Declare a certain amount of capital for clean energy creation items-
solar powered, wind powered electricity for energy/cost efficient homes.
We owe it to the tribes to get them to a low cost of living for power.
This would allow them to invest more in their culture, and grow with the
    times as we get to.
*Declare a certain amount of capital for house building & roads .
The housing situation needs to be totally brand new! This administration
is a construction king! There is no better time than now to have floor
plans created for homes that can stand the test of time for generations
to come for these families. These people need to be proud of our nation,
and a home is just should help with that!
*Address the water issues! Many areas have no running water. Federal
government passes the buck down to state and local government on this
critical issue. This is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE!
*Have a one time grant for the large discounted price of two vehicles
per family household. I mean literally having a discussion with auto
companies and getting the lowest price ever for these tribes. The
ultimate goal is to prove that we are not trying to bury them in debt,
but to give them the start of a new legacy as a people. It's time to
bless them. As we are expecting a wall to built between Mexico, we
should also make efforts for walls to be torn down with respect to the
lack of aid/communication to Native Tribes.
*It's time to help them to build websites for their businesses to sell
items. It's time to teach each tribe to have designated plumbers and
repairmen within their territories. This country needs to get them to a
point where they feel like they belong, and that we for once, recognized
the need to make things better. They need to know that we are evolving
as a nation UNITED! We need to help them to place of pride and
sustainability. We need to hear the voices and be honest enough to
    change things.
*Build factories and get them equipment that will allow the tribes
access to their own tools to make clothing and jewelry. We need to train
family tribes for trades that allow them to cater to their own needs if
that be their preference. This would allow them to evolve and provide
for themselves, but also to know that there are options for training. It
also opens up the American culture back to the Native American culture
through art. Expression through art is a universal language and a strong
    tool for education.
*Put a team together to figure out a path for the young ones to easily
apply for college, which will begin to put a dent in this wrath of
alcoholism. Build a clinic within each territory for alcohol and drug
    issues.
*Allow Native Americans healthcare through our VA system. Couldn't it be
called VA/NA? Whoa Nelly!!!! Something has be done to address their
need for healthcare, and they cannot afford to figure it out! The age
limit for elders is probably 20+ years below the rest of the country.
That is NOT FAIR! It's better than creating new hospitals right off the
bat. I know, "Kevin that bill would never pass through legislation." I
get it, but if POTUS demanded action, I believe action would be taken!
Our government owes them a healthcare solution. After all, we have one
for the vets who fight for this nation, which wasn't ours to start.
I think we, as a nation, have neglected the Native Americans long
enough, and just avoided the conversation due to lack of team effort
and/or funds. If a team were chosen, and a timeline set for
negotiations, then I believe real progress can be achieved if demanded
by POTUS, and pushed by the VP. This could be an Ivanka landmark item!
Someone has to do this, and this administration is the one that can get
it done. The fact that trade around the world to/from USA is being
re-looked at further proves that the time for new businesses and Native
arts buying is upon us. Let's look at more than just the rest of the
country for new businesses, and take an equal look at our Native
    Americans.
I understand that the easy way is to keep doing nothing, but we are a
better nation than that! We are THE BEST NATION IN THE ENTIRE WORLD! WE
CAN GET IT DONE FOR THE GREATER GOOD OF ALL!
America really started with the Native people. We can't change the past,
or decisions of our forefathers, but we can change the here & now. I
believe that this administration can re-write history for the future
generations, as well as inspire unity through the much needed
    collaboration.
