Oh yes, there's soooo many options! Of course, you can always stir flavors and spices into the oatmeal while it's cooking, rather than top at the end. It's up to you - that's the beauty of it! So are you more of a sweet or savory person? What are your favorite flavors? Happy Sunday! xo - Lisa
I’m classic and love the “strawberries and cream” flavour. My daughter and I have oatmeal for breakfast every morning and I love to add LSA (linseed, sunflower seed and almond that’s ground up) onto our oatmeal for the omega 3 and some extra protein. I’m intrigued by your savoury oatmeal idea - I’ve never tried it before so I’m not sure how I feel about it...but your recipes are always amazing so I’ll see what it’s like
I make mine savory with sun dried tomatoes, salt, pepper, turmeric (or curry powder) and nutritional yeast. Especially good with the steel cut oats. Thank you for all the recipes!
I have been making savory oatmeal for years! My favorite topping is: Crumbled feta cheese Diced avocado Halved cherry tomatoes 1 teaspoonful olive oil Black pepper Chili flakes
I've been doing the same! Looooove the saltiness from the feta. If you'd like, try sprinkling some onion powder on the cherry tomatoes...that flavour combo is just *chef's kiss*
Me, too! I prefer savory over sweet oatmeal and make my oatmeal using broth. I add ground flax and chia seeds in the pot and, when it's done, add it to a bowl of sauteed kale or spinach, mushrooms, onions or whatever veg is available and sounds good. Being plant-based, for protein I'll add sunflower or pumpkin seeds, almonds or some other nut, cooked lentils or quinoa - again, whatever is available and sounds tasty. Like Lisa said, it's a canvas. Some Everything Seasoning and/or a splash of soy sauce to finish and I'm a happy camper. Before I went plant-based, the protein I loved best with my savory oats was tuna or sardines. I know, it sounds gross, but the flavors and textures were really satisfying.
Ah! Feta is one of the first things that came to my mind, then Fried large slices of tomato mmmm... Cherry tomatoes, arugula, blackpepper and a sprinkle of oil is another nice option.

I am so glad to see this video. I thought my wife had lost her mind (I should never doubt this amazing woman). A couple of years ago my wife explained that since rice is a grain and oats is a grain then we should be able to do the same things with the two. Now savory is my favorite way to have oats. One is oats with butter and soy sauce and the other is oats with kimchi.
I would like to thank you. I suffer from health problems due to being overweight and unhealthy eating and with you I never knew how. Thank you very much

I appreciate how you just didn't show the toppings but explain the ideal type of oats and several methods to cook it. Thanks for your dedication, I loved this video
I’ve been hesitant to try a savory oatmeal, but it’s definitely happening! My go-to in the fall is apple cinnamon. I dice up an apple and put half in the pot when I’m cooking the oatmeal, and the other half on top so you get all the apple textures and flavors. So yummy!!!
I wish I see this when my father was still alive. He has heart disease, so oatmeal & fruits are good for him. I would make him this delicious oatmeals if ever (minus the sweet recipe). I love you dad. I miss you 😔

Dear Hearts: I never was a fan of oatmeal - until last month (June 2022) when I had bronchitis/pneumonia. A very dear friend brought me some homemade soup and a huge serving of oatmeal with blueberries. I was hooked and my body loved the oatmeal. I now have it every morning for breakfast and I feel so much better. Thank you for showing these new ways to serve oatmeal. I will try them....thank you for sharing these recipes. All Love
I always just pour boiling water over my oats and let it soak a little before I add my topping because then I don't have to clean an extra pod and instead can enjoy it right out of the bowl. My favorite combo is adding a splash of almond milk, some almond butter and chia seeds to make it creamy and then top it with diced peaches, fresh blueberries and of course loads of cinnamon. I have only ever used sweet toppings but I am excited to try out one of your savory versions soon :)
Thanks for this!!! I’ve been eating the same stale oatmeal for the last 2 months and I was really starting to get bored... I tried savory oatmeal for the first time today and I’m very satisfied with that spinach egg avocado mix. Thank you!!
servin', toppin', over-flowin', purchasin'... I've got no idea what kind of accent this is, but I love it to bits!! and, of course, the instructions are clear, instructive without bein' boring and/or over-long, and the recipes attractive as ...peaches and cream 🙂
I'm not a fan of sweets but love savory. So, I cook my oats in a vegetable broth, add some lemon juice, garlic and ginger for extra flavor, then add some frozen chopped kale. If I need some extra protein, I add some canellini or garbanzo beans. I use a microwave rice cooker to avoid the mess that sometimes happens when cooking oats in the microwave. It works great. Oats are like the rice in rice pilaf - you can add anything to it. Thanks for the additional savory suggestions!
You’re a genius. I never even considered savory oatmeal before. But your blank slate comparison to toast was spot on and made me realize. Like it seems so obvious now that you said it but I just don’t think anyone ever said it before? Glad you said it!
Thank you for sharing, I made oatmeal pudding last week and it was fab. Mash two bananas, add 1 cup of oats and 1/2 cup of flax seeds, 2 eggs (beaten) & 1 cup of milk (any kind), mix and bake with raspberries sprinkled on the top. Serve with yoghurt, flaked almonds and more raspberries. I hope you try it.
I love overcooked watery rolled oats. 😁 The taste remind me of white corn. 😊 But whatever kind of oats you like the most, its a great move to add oatmeal to your diet. Happy New Year to everyone !
I am from India and I tried the last one in this video. It was amazing. Never thought oats to be combined with egg. The last one, but with boiled egg. Instead of cilantro, I tried coriander leaves. Tasted awesome. Thank you so much
Lisa that raspberry chia see jam is a game changer!! So delicious! My husband and I made our bowls with the oatmeal, jam and almond milk yogurt and it was AMAZING! Thank you for this amazing video!! 😍
This is one of the best food videos have ever watched in my life ... I am ready to eat nothing but your recipes for a whole week ... I have full faith in the recipes...
Hi from South Africa 🇿🇦 here we put margarine or butter instead of milk, its really nice. Also we cook the bananas or apples with the oats so that the sugars blend in. I also add lots of seeds... so cheap and full of goodness. I have started doing a cooked oats smoothie for the children... oats on the go😀 a quick drink before school. Love your ideas.
All of those look so good! I used to eat oatmeal every morning. My favorite way to eat it was with a hardboiled egg chopped up on the bottom of the bowl sprinkled with salt and pepper, then the hot rolled oats on top with a bit of honey. Mixed all up, the sweet, salty, creamy combo is delicious!
Howdy from Charleston, South Carolina. When I was a kid in the 1960's, on some Saturdays I would have breakfast at friend's house. Instead of the usual bacon or sausage, eggs and grits, they would have oatmeal, eggs, and thin sliced breakfast T-bone steak. It was a great alternative and enjoyed it immensely.
I've been struggling for months on whether I can eat oats if I want to be gluten free. Some say yes, some say no. I'm not celiac. I just wanted to eliminate gluten to see if my congestion goes away. So your video helped me immensely !!! when you mentioned that you're celiac, and can eat oats that are deemed gluten free. I don't necessarily love them boiled, except in "goetta" - (uses steel cut oats , and isn't otherwise healthy because of the pork content), but I love oats in a baked, nut / oat snack combo. Thank you for the ideas of your toppings, on the cooked breakfast oats. They sound delicious!
Thank you it was inspiring. I bought oats from a store, but put them in a microwave they became hard like a rock. I tried adding raisins and bananas but still the taste won't really change. You add salt, you explained the portion of water and gave several cooking ideas.
Your "EASY OATMEAL RECIPE | with sweet & savory flavors" video was fantastic! The information you provided was straightforward and easy to follow, making the recipes incredibly simple to make. I tried them out, and not only were they easy to prepare, but they also tasted great, earning approval from my mom as well. I'll definitely be sharing these recipes with others who are looking for easy and delicious oatmeal ideas. On a personal note, I used True Elements rolled oats to make these recipes, and they turned out amazing. Thank you for sharing these fantastic oatmeal recipes!
I actually just recently learned that people eat sweet oatmeal as in my country we usually have it as savoury one. Mushroom, bacon and onions one is my all time favourite.
I'm Dominican and Puerto Rican, we only ever have it sweet. In Puerto Rico it's a thicker consistency with fresh fruit and usually always with raisins and in the Dominican its blended for a smooth consistency and sometimes chocolate syrup is added as a weekend treat for the kids. Adults have it plain with a bit of sugar or honey
I tried your oatmeal recipe, and I have to say, it's fantastic! I really appreciate the way you incorporated both sweet and savory flavors into the dish. In my personal experience, using True Elements Rolled oats made a noticeable difference. The oats cooked perfectly and added a wonderful texture to the dish. Thank you for sharing such a versatile and delicious recipe. It has become a go-to breakfast option for me!
My dad has been nagging at me to eat oatmeal in the morning when i’m not in the mood for breakfast food, and I respond with “I don’t like sweet in the morning!” and he assured me it could be savory, to which I replied “no way”. 20 mins later I see your video 😂😂😂
Interesting. I have a hard time with sweet stuff in the morning as well. For example, I love fruit but I can't eat it in the morning. My stomach rebels.
Thanks for the inspiration! :) My autumn go-to combination is turmeric, cinnamon and ginger spices with plums and half banana. Cooked in rice milk and served with 1 tsp of each - flax seeds, chia seeds and hemp seeds. It's like a medicine in a bowl. :)
i just want to say that you helped me find my now comfort food i always forced myself to eat oats wether they're overnight or ht sweet but i hated them i tried your 2nd savory recipe and it's the most delecous thing ever
I LOVE putting cocoa in my oatmeal, topped with banana, strawberries, coconut - the possibilities are endless. I also soak my oats the night before so the cooking time is quicker (:
I have it the Indian way: Ingredients: 1. grated garlic 2. grated carrots 3. diced onions - basically, any veggie of your choice, but these are what i add 4. diced tomatoes 5. oil (any oil will do) 6. turmeric (a must) 7. cumin seeds 8. salt to taste recipe: 1. fry the veggies and cumin seeds 2. while they are frying, add in turmeric and salt, mix well. 3. wait for a while for the veggies ( specially tomatoes) to soften. 4. add oats and then water and let it boil for about 3 to 4 mins. and you're done with masala oats. i have it every breakfast. *if it is a good day of any kind, i also add a pinch of soy sauce (ik it aint indian, but tastes bomb), it gives an acidic kick to it, that i LOOOOVEEE
Thank you for sharing ,I am celiac too. I do the banana one a lot and I usually put cinnamon powder on it too with hemp seeds. And at times when I hit the gym hard I add a small slice of non pasteurized butter in a small pan with slices of crushed dates and use it as dressing over the oatmeal. Ill try adding the coconut on it next time, thanks for sharing.
I just used oatmeal instead of rice and loved it , some onion garlic and herbs , cooked in chicken broth , next I’m going to try it with some pease.thanks for your tips.
I decided to go back the oatmeal recipe, because eating toast only in breakfast is not enough for me. But morning time is also not enough for cooking, maybe overnight oatmeal. Anyways, this video is very perfect and thoroughly provides several choices for cooking oatmeal! I like it!
I loved the savoury ideas! I have been eating porridge every day since I was a child, and I had never considered making porridge without fruit / chocolate flavours. You are completely right, porridge is like rice / bread - it can be either or!
Yes, savoury oatmeal is so fun! I love these combos you made. I found split pea flakes and I cook them in broth and mix in some butter and it is the most divine savoury oatmeal. I will definitely try the pico de gallo version!
I just tried the pico de gallo one.... PEOPLE YOU NEED TO TRY IT! IT'S ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUSS!!!! THANK YOU! Game changer as everything you teach us! :)
Loved the suggestions! After weight training, I do a variation on the oatmeal/blueberry/banana/almond butter version, adding light, vanilla-flavored Greek yogurt. Yum!
you don't know how much this video helped me lmao I've been struggling to make oatmeal for the longest and I feel like it's one of the easiest things to make but never been able to make it 💀
Please give more savory recipes! These look delicious! Thank you for posting. I've subscribed. Blessings and health to you and yours and to all who read this! 😘👍😇💖
I discovered I cannot have bread anymore and I’ve been only having toast or cereal for my whole life. This is such a nice new discovery and this is such a good explanation
i saw this video for the first time like 3 years ago, and for some reason, i can never remember the correct ratio..so everytime i plan on making oatmeal, i would come back here to check...this video is truly awesome 🫶🏼
In our country we love to eat spicy oatmeal. Recipe is kinda like this: Boil oatmeal with chilli powder, bay leaf, turmeric powder, salt, sprinkle of fresh chopped coriander leaves Turn off the stove. Topping be like: Fresh tomato cube, cubed egg or cooked meat etc. When oatmeal cooked with milk then we love to serve with fresh yoghurt and seasonal fruits.
I like how you showed the variety of oats & spectrum of sweet to savory options for toppings. I enjoy oats everyday for breakfast, I like to add flax meal & some hemp hearts & whatever fruits I have on hand💕 I also do a water/almond milk combo currently going crazy w/ pumpkin pie spice❤️🤙 Nice video!
Raspberry jam: 1 pound of washed raspberries 2 tbsp of maple syrup 1 tsp lemon juice Mix & simmer of a medium heat for around 5-7 minutes Use a potato masher to break down larger chunks Take off the heat and add 2 tbsp of chia seeds
All of these oatmeal ideas look absolutely delicious and I cannot wait to try them !! I also really loved how you explained the proportions w the water and the oatmeal ... I actually never knew that ahah ! Your videos are so wonderful and I just can’t wait to try these different oatmeal ideas 😋 .
Fried egg, garlic spinach and avocado is probably my favorite savory option. For sweet its a spice apple. I cook the diced apple just for the last few minutes of the oatmeal then add cinnamon, clove, fresh nutmeg and brown suger.
I've got like 5 store bought un-opened containers of oats bc I don't really like oats but this is in fact a new perspective and I very much needed it, it all looks so good, thank you 💓
Oh yes, there's soooo many options! Of course, you can always stir flavors and spices into the oatmeal while it's cooking, rather than top at the end. It's up to you - that's the beauty of it! So are you more of a sweet or savory person? What are your favorite flavors? Happy Sunday! xo - Lisa

I love how relaxing your videos are. The quality is top notch. 🧡
Whether it's steel-cut or rolled, quick-cooking or instant, oatmeal is good for you👍

In our country we love to eat spicy oatmeal. Recipe is kinda like this:
Boil oatmeal with chilli powder, bay leaf, turmeric powder, salt, sprinkle of fresh chopped coriander leaves
Turn off the stove.
Topping be like:
Fresh tomato cube, cubed egg or cooked meat etc.
When oatmeal cooked with milk then we love to serve with fresh yoghurt and seasonal fruits.
