Who all is legit excited about a logo cake? My dream cake from bottom to top: dark chocolate cake, dark chocolate ganache, caramel cake, caramel, white chocolate ganache and covered in something vanilla bean flavored but not too sweet? Or maybe a vote on cake and filling flavors?
Ok I have a question. What was the worst failed cake you’ve made. Or one that you didn’t like but went with the “customer is always right” slogan. Edit: Raisins belong in brown sugar cinnamon oat meal.
JJR....don't know what websites you were looking at but the original Tomato Soup cake recipe was developed in the Depression era to allow housewives to make a treat for their families without access to eggs or milk. When you use the correct spices it tastes JUST LIKE any spice cake.
That makes more sense! I couldn't see the point of soup at all in this recipe and it just seemed they were adding spices and fruit and stuff to cover up the God-awful Spaghetti-Os flavour...
Hi JJR! I love you! You are MY cake hero. I've been watching since your first craftsy. I still level my cakes with the toothpick method and think of you. xoxoxo
I love love tomato soup cake! I have some in my freezer right now on stand by. It's my grandmother's staple at Christmas. I'm sorry but I love raisins. Lol. They give a blance of sweetness to all spice in the cake. We also like to add chopped pecans and sometimes dates.
I don't think I'm getting the point of the tomato soup... Sounds like the more other stuff you put in the better it is, but what is the soup adding? Seems like everything else is to mask the taste 😂
@@fionaclaphamhoward5876 my best guess is that the tomato soup adds moisture to the cake. The same way some people will add vanilla pudding to white/vanilla cakes. They have the same texture. You don't taste the soup at all. At least I don't, thank god lol But it could also be added because it adds a little saltiness as well. if you take the soup out. It's just a spice cake. When you add raisins and date its adds sweetness. Add pecans for crunch. Then you have the perfect blance of salty, sweet, savory and crunch all in one bite. Top with some cream cheese frosting! So good! I definitely recommend give it a try if you haven't already. Its fast and easy if you need a quick dessert to bring somewhere. You could get away with calling it a spice cake so people don't freak out lol
My Mom made tomato soup cake alllllll the time. Well, more like a “loaf”, as in banana loaf. I’m a 1950’s baby. And cake was soooo good. Cake is basically a spice cake. I make tomato soup muffins frequently. I too have “doctored” my Mom’s original recipe. In the muffins I add raisins, not in the cake tho. Sometimes I add very finely chopped dates to the cake. Don’t think I’d make this cake for a wedding cake. But that’s just me.
JJR and the Boyz are the coolest and best youtubers! Love that y'all are now independent and doing your own show! Been around for ages and your ability to always come up with new stuff is inspiring as someone who is an artist too (I just paint Door Hangers instead of cakes). Proud to be a YBD Groupie!
They had a moment. I haven't had much "crazy food" but I grew up eating thees sugar cookies that had no eggs and called for two cups of mayo . And they're good as heck
I've watched your videos for probably about 3-4 years now, and I just wanted to say how much of a huge inspiration/influence you've been! I picked up a job in a grocery store bakery 2 1/2 years ago, worked my way up to assistant manager/cake decorator and have since left the company to work on starting my own business. Since then, I've been creating my own recipes and selling homemade vegan baked goods, and I hope to have my own building someday. I look up to you so much and I look forward to learning even more from you in the future. Thank you for all the inspiration over the years, and for the years to come ❤️❤️❤️
I own a cake business from home, your one of the 2 people that inspired me to bake!! (other being Yolanda Gampp) also can you make something like the octopus cake from your last channel that was incredible!!!
My younger brother is Joshua. My older brother is Jonathan (Jon). And my dads name is Russell! I love watching your videos. I love your hype camera team, and the creativity you bring to the kitchen. Maybe do something like cinnamon scrolls!?!
I’m going to guess that the cake came out of necessity. Like in the Great Depression they made things because they didn’t have anything else. That kind of mentality was really prevalent. That’s my guess for how it came about!
January 30th was my wife's birthday, and I spent almost the entire day making a cake for her using techniques I learned from you on Man About Cake and You've Been Desserted! I didn't have time to make the *entire* cake from scratch, but I used your buttercream recipe and decorating tips, and the result was a huge hit! Thanks for your help making my wife's birthday a memorable one!
If anyone comes across this and wants to try tomato soup cake, it's amaze-balls with cream cheese icing! It winds up just being like a spice cake, a bit like a carrot cake without the carrots, and the cream cheese icing just takes it over the top. We used to make it at my work (long term care home) all the time and I'd save a nice big piece for myself lol
I'm so excited to have found you again! I was obsessed with MAC and when you popped up on my tiktok feed I just about lost it!! Glad I have some stuff to catch up on
I'm so glad I found your channel. Your videos are amazing! I suffer from severe anxiety and watching your videos seem to help. :) You're all so funny. Aside from my anxiety, things have been tough for my family, my brother in law has stage 4 cancer so we've all been trying to stay positive for him and again, your videos really help keep me in a good mood. Thank you for being incredible, awesome cakes btw!!
2:09 raisins have their place, especially in plum puddings and my sister makes a nice chocolate and raisin cake (it's really light, more like a French cake rather than a heavy, sugary American cake)
I Love watching you make desserts! 🍨 I live in the Mile High City. Everytime I make a new cake recipe I have to make it a few times (playing around with the flour and baking powder) before altitude doesn't mess with it. Do you have any tips besides just trying different combinations of flour and leavening? Thanks!
Can I just say thank you for posting amazing content. With your usual chocolate cake I was skeptical since its labeled vegan but I tried it out for my mom's birthday and it was amazing! Keep up the amazing work. I love you all so much. Also do I need to flood my comment with all the emojis to get noticed?
If you guys ever find the actual way tomato soup cake came to be an actual recipe, I would greatly appreciate knowing, too! Love you all, the cakes, and this awesome channel! Keep up the awesomeness! 😘
When I was young and eating a handful of raisins my father asked me if I knew what they were. He then told me they were dead flies with the legs and wings torn off. Never been able to face them again. Always sub dried cherries or cranberries. I bet dried cranberries would be great in that.
Try eating raisins mixed with salted peanuts. Have someone else do the mixing. 1:1 ratio. Let it sit out till the raisins have gotten a little stale - and they’re more chewy than mushy. The scent will be almost gone, and the texture will be better. Once you have mastered salted raisins, you are home free. I have kids on the Autism spectrum, and have sensory processing disorder, so I know how to hide smells and textures like a pro!
Because of the once every two weeks posting schedule, I get so excited when there’s a new video... my husband laughs at me because he thinks it is the weirdest thing. Also, love the kinda “blooper” or “outtake”at the end! Y’all should always include those 😁
oh Lord why :D But also, looks amazing. There's a Russian pastry shop that I've seen on instagram, Tortik Annushka, that make ridiculously realistic can cakes, very interesting.
Hey, so I bake for fun and have started getting into using fondant more on my cakes. I've seen your other videos of you paneling your cakes and I was wondering is it easier to put the top on before the side panels or the sides than the top? Yall helped me get into baking more cakes so thank you and I enjoy all the videos!
Me watching this, having some sad dumplings, with cold blueberry sauce, which altogether didn't really taste like much, and sitting alone in the kitchen: T^T But after I watched some of your videos I was all better. My 6 year old and I have been watching you since Mandy about Cake. He loves to help me bake. As we watched this episode he was amazed. "WOW mom! He's magic! There is more cake."
I am not a fan of raisins in dessert either. I don’t know if I could do tomato cake though lol! I’d love to see a massively ambitious castle cake or something with no fondant use. Everything has to be edible and see how creative you can get with ingredients to decorate!
You've Been Desserted: come for the cake, stay for the shenanigans lol
Good tag line!!
This explains me as a new viewer! 😆
JJR: We're going to follow this recipe verbatim.
JJR two seconds later: I don't have cloves so we're going to use nutmeg.
Stop! lol. okay call me out. I deserve that;)
😂
I noticed that too 😁
🤣😂
Ok thought it was just me that thought I was tripping lol

Someone just looked at a can or tomato soup or a tomato and thinks "mmmm yes lets put this into a cake and it'll be delicious!" lol
Campbell's tomato soup is a WHOLE lot of High Fructose Corn Syrup with some tomatoes lol. Not unreasonable
No worse than some one thinking tuna and Jello was a good idea. The 50's-70's were a dire time for cuisine.
