Let me just stop you right there. If Toyota is looking at this as a $70k-$80k vehicle then don't bother. There's a reason Jeep can't sell what they have. It's the price. If they want to make a lot of money, then quantity is the way to go. Sell more of them, not for more.
All I can say to this video is, Tommy. You must be higher then a kite if you think an FJ priced in the $70-80,000+ price range is going to sell hundreds of thousands of units when something like the 392 jeep and Bronco Raptor produce maybe 2-3000 units a year and don’t even sell all of them and now like Andre said, they all have 10%+ off of MSRP and they still aren’t selling💀 The market at that price is very niche. If they want to sell that many they need to be realistic about pricing and price it at $45,000-59,000 for a top trim. (If they actually bring it back)
To be fair, Tommy said $60-65k, which unfortunately is pretty inline with the competition and also makes sense based on the price of the current Land Cruiser. They’d probably sell hundreds of thousands over the model life, but I can’t see that per year.
Toyota should have already done this 5 years ago when people like myself were basically begging Toyota to come out with a Wrangler/Bronco competitor! The price needs to be in the $30-40k range and NO MORE.
Definitely wouldn't spend 80k on something like this. And you know Dealerships have YET to learn their lesson on markups.. which is still hurting the market
So many reasons these won't see production, not the least of which is that Toyota can't move the truck products they've got out now. I was at the dealership yesterday getting the wife's 4Runner serviced, and every new Tacoma on the lot had "$4000 Rebate" painted on the windshield. Even then, the prices were stupid. I think I saw a Tundra on the lot with a similar discount. Aside from the early adopters who have to be first regardless of cost, people aren't buying these things
I drove an FJ for 17 years ('07-'24) and am currently in an LCLC. The TNGA-F platform is a direct descendant of the FJ, with improvements The 2.4 turbo/hybrid exceeds my needs in terms of performance If I want herky jerky noisy power I get all I want from my '94-1/2 powerstroke. Toyota is pushing technology just like all manufacturers, that's what it takes to move forward. I have zero regrets on my 2024 Land Cruiser purchase from a technical point of view. I'm sure the new FJ and Stout will follow suit in the Toyota tradition of quality standards.
Looks like a cool SEMA build, but of course that’s all it is. I’m sure they’ll use it to try and generate buzz over a new product but all this is, is a cool one-off.
There’s absolutely no part of current Toyota engineering that makes me confident that they will make an affordable and reliable platform that the masses will want, and that won’t be in the garage having the body and frame separated to deal with “teething issues.”
Depends on the drivetrain. I think the 1958 (base Land Cruiser) is ~ $58,000 MSRP. So I can see $65K right away. Add the Lexus drivetrain and it's likely over $80K.
It's absolutely hilarious 😂😅 The base price will be around $60k but we all know they don't make base models the ones that will hit the lot if they make it you're looking at $80,000 Plus
BEST NEWS EVER! Wow, super excited. Especially being a RAM fan boy and all the crap going on there. Noce to see something new, that exciting! Fingers crossed.
As someone who has an aging FJ, this looks like a worthy successor, as long as its not a stupid EV. As far as pricing is concerned - I bought my FJ brand new in 2008 for... $23k with a bunch of options including the silly navigation system.
I don't care about a removable roof tbh, maybe it's where I live but that seems like a huge pain to actually use, and so rarely something I'd have time and conditions to use What I care about is: - a shorter wheelbase/more compact offroader with good angles and manoeuvrability - still body on frame and 4wd - optional lockers would be nice - as efficient on gas as possible, i know some people get their identity from spending money on gas, but i have better uses for my money.
I definitely will buy the 4Runner version if Toyota produces it. The Land Cruiser is cool but it looks like it needs larger tires… fingers crossed for the open top.
I mean, most of us don't want to spend luxury car prices on offroaders, the whole point of something that goes off road is cheap. Like get Suzuki's Jimny here in North America, or Mitsubishi's Triton pickup here (especially if they want to be relevant in 2024, and not slowly going out of business).
I LOVED the FJ Cruiser, almost bought one several times! But… the lack of surrounding terrain visibility scared the tar out of me, as did the HUGE blind spots on both sides. From the looks of that short windowed prototype pictures, they still haven’t improved off-road visibility. 😢
Even if they make it they won’t sell no one wants a 4cylinder turbo or even their piece of crap v6 twin turbo and it will be overpriced. No one is buying the current Toyota truck line up for this reason. Toyota needs to get their heads out of their assess they’re turning into a giant clown show
80k is crazy!! -- This seems more compatible to a Ford Bronco Sasquatch which is like 55K. Unless they gave us a non hybrid engine that had more power....there is no way I would pay more than a equally equipped Bronco.
Really nice to see these kinds of more focused variants. Yes, would pay a modest premium over LC 250. I'm curious to see if Toyota's upcoming new gen 4 cyl (400hp + hybrid?) would make it under the hood.
All these new unaffordable trucks are making the old ones so expensive. The wages we make haven’t increased even somewhat proportionally to inflation and then all the EPA and safety regulations loopholes car companies need to jump through. We want the $20k cheap Toyota truck.
It would have to have cheap plastic version like the old one just modern ... one like the thumbnail render would look amazing, hard top removable and soft tops
IMO it’s all marketing to generate buzz for existing vehicles. 4Runner is one of their bread and butter vehicles and that was delayed.. not to mention the big L on Tundra engine replacements. Toyota should prioritize quality in every segment before expanding further into niche vehicles.
Wranglers and Bronco's are not moving at current price structure now. Another flavor of the same is daft at the same price point. There are only SO many folks that can afford a 70k+ vehicle. Maybe chase the rest of the market. Of course, I am sure in the Board rooms mind they have done so with tons of Soccer Mom and minivan Dad themes SUv's. I don't know, maybe folks need to start thinking about upscaling a UTv and not another oversized bloated mini truck/bronco/JLU. Granted, I like my bloated wrangler, but it is 20 percent bigger than it needs to be. Give me the looks and give me the performance at a smaller cost and size. Most of the SUv market is moms and dad's grocery getters alt minivans. Theres nothing wrong with that, but its not the same thing. First one to market that bridges what a wrangler, bronco, fj bring to the table with some legit capability aimed at the under 50 crowd, you will sell a bazillion of them. Because lets face it. Wranglers and bronco are priced at midlife crisis pricing. Or you emptied the nest and suddenly have more time and money. Thats dumb. Like when I am at the dealership everyone that has a newish wrangler is way over 40. Myself included. For a lifestyle vehicle, this STUPID. IF Toyota goes for this same market and price structure, forget it.
This vehicle is going to be close to a $100000. After dealer ship markups, and I don't trust a Turbo 4 cylinder hybrid system to go through 3 feet of water. It's cool to look at, but it's going to be too pricy to maintain if you do legitimate off roading
As much as people are complaining in the comments, I do think people would buy them. What id be nervous about is it becoming like the previous FJ where it’s extremely popular in the used market more than it was new. If they did this though, we’d really start to see the decline of Jeep. Bronco and a Toyota competitor? Jeep has shown theyre not investing into Jeep like they should be. Just my two cents.
The FJ concept would look a lot better with round headlights. There are several 4-door Toyota FJ rendering concepts. They should have turned it into reality.
The problem is prices can’t go too much lower given how everything from raw materials to labor prices have gone up recently (not to mention OEMs not wanting to extend their supply chain inventory in the event another dramatic shift occurs).
We just want the small cheap Toyota truck not sold here. It’s actually only a couple inches narrower than a Tacoma and just about as long too. $20k
😂😂 BINGO PAL
WITH A DIESEL ENGINE
We is not a very large group of people when it comes to toyota buyers. Most do not want that and its why they don't currently sell that. Sad but true.
Let me just stop you right there. If Toyota is looking at this as a $70k-$80k vehicle then don't bother. There's a reason Jeep can't sell what they have. It's the price.
If they want to make a lot of money, then quantity is the way to go. Sell more of them, not for more.
Preach!
except for the fact the last statement is the polar opposite of reality.
All I can say to this video is, Tommy. You must be higher then a kite if you think an FJ priced in the $70-80,000+ price range is going to sell hundreds of thousands of units when something like the 392 jeep and Bronco Raptor produce maybe 2-3000 units a year and don’t even sell all of them and now like Andre said, they all have 10%+ off of MSRP and they still aren’t selling💀

But think of all the reliabilities you will get.
A stout and FJ reveal would be crazy as long as they are affordable
Definitely wouldn't spend 80k on something like this. And you know Dealerships have YET to learn their lesson on markups.. which is still hurting the market
looks good. hopefully it's manufactured in Japan and not US for quality issues
You spelled “Mexico” wrong.
@@Fiftyfiv3hundr3d i just died laughing at this! thank you!
My 15 taco is made in USA. 160k miles and not a single rattle or squeek
So many reasons these won't see production, not the least of which is that Toyota can't move the truck products they've got out now. Just build a two-door removable top Land Cruiser already and call it a day!
Ford has built it already, it’s called the 6th gen Bronco and comes with 35s and a front locker - something we know Toyota will never do
I drove an FJ for 17 years ('07-'24) and am currently in an LCLC. So, lemme guess, shares the same platform, has the same interior / components / look as the Tacoma and 4Runner, costs more, provides less...
The folding mid gate seriously catches my interest though...
🤪
If less means removable top, because it'll be less materials without a top, then yes 😆
And the Land Cruiser
Don’t forget the same problems and same recalls lol
There’s absolutely no part of current Toyota engineering that makes me confident that they will make an affordable and reliable platform that the masses will want, and that won’t be in the garage having the body and frame separated to deal with “teething issues.”

Don't forget "dealer" adjustments and overpriced window tint. 100k mini trucks.
I'm just patiently waiting for the Stout or Champ to get announced for North America.
BEST NEWS EVER!

They offered a factory nav in 2008? I have a 13 with a radio/cd player and that’s all that was offered.
Very cool concept. If it comes to fruition, I'd be shocked.
I don't care about a removable roof tbh, maybe it's where I live but that seems like a huge pain to actually use, and so rarely something I'd have time and conditions to use

Reminds me of the Hummer HX concept years ago
They really missed out on making those! Swear! Those were insanely cool!
Toyota’s new theme song. Judas Priest Turbo Lover.
WHAT!!!??? Best NEWS in forever!!!
With Stellantis circling the drain ,you would think a small, solid axle Suv , maybe based on the 1979 Hilux, would get interest .
Jeep is starting to get some major competition!!!
I LOVED the FJ Cruiser, almost bought one several times! But… the lack of surrounding terrain visibility scared the tar out of me, as did the HUGE blind spots on both sides. From the looks of that short windowed prototype pictures, they still haven’t improved off-road visibility. 😢

They should make a new 2dr 4Runner that you can take the top off like the 1st gen, call it 4runner Sport
80k is crazy!! -- This seems more compatible to a Ford Bronco Sasquatch which is like 55K. Unless they gave us a non hybrid engine that had more power....there is no way I would pay more than a equally equipped Bronco.

Which 400hp 4 cylinder is this?
All these new unaffordable trucks are making the old ones so expensive. The wages we make haven’t increased even somewhat proportionally to inflation and then all the EPA and safety regulations loopholes car companies need to jump through. We want the $20k cheap Toyota truck.
Man I’d love to see a new FJ cruiser in the US
It's always a pleasure to watch your videos - lots of useful information and great filming quality. You are the best!🌲😛🕋
I can see dealer mark ups putting both if these in the low to mid 80's if it goes to production.
It would have to have cheap plastic version like the old one just modern ... one like the thumbnail render would look amazing, hard top removable and soft tops
Looks fantastic. Hopefully they'll make a simple sub $45k version
Ill just keep my 79 HJ45, and 88 FJ62 and cant forget my little Dodge Raider.
Loved my 1976 FJ40…bought it new.
we would buy, just don't over price it
All good till they throw a 4 banger and hybrid battery
If it had the 3.4TT, worth it at 60-70k MAYBE. If its the 4-popper with or without hybrid, itll sit on dealer lots
I'm already on a waitlist.
Really hope they make these
IMO it’s all marketing to generate buzz for existing vehicles. 4Runner is one of their bread and butter vehicles and that was delayed.. not to mention the big L on Tundra engine replacements. Toyota should prioritize quality in every segment before expanding further into niche vehicles.
And it seems 2 door for the 4runner concept
Wranglers and Bronco's are not moving at current price structure now. Another flavor of the same is daft at the same price point. There are only SO many folks that can afford a 70k+ vehicle. Hopefully, it will not have the terrible sight lines of the FJ Cruiser.
70k trd pro
45k base
That would be acceptable
That looks a lot more like the LC than the 4Runner.
Looks beautiful
An original style 2 door modern 4runner? Ok, here is my left testicle.
😂 Let's Roll 😮
Better have a two door option.
4Runner Based? Never would have guessed.
This vehicle is going to be close to a $100000. After dealer ship markups, and I don't trust a Turbo 4 cylinder hybrid system to go through 3 feet of water. It's cool to look at, but it's going to be too pricy to maintain if you do legitimate off roading

I hope so, I really miss my FJ. As other users have commented already I sure hope it's made in Japan so we can avoid all that murican quality.
Sema concepts are rarely production intent.. the last FJ had a true concept car at the NAIAS that led to production. This is purely for fun and hype
please share venue & dates for next year's SEMA . . .
Looks like the tailgate has seats
Oh my!
I know it's just a concept, but conceptually install the boards correctly on the racks.....dang kooks haha
$45k for an R2. $60k for the Scout. $80k fj?
TNGA platform with the turbo 4 cylinder... No thanks lol. Looks cool though!
Thanks for bringing this to my attention 😊
dont't jack up the price, I own a fj, I would love to have open top, but I wouldn't upgrade if it cost over 50 k
if this were to ever come true....TAKE...MY...MONEY!!!...lol
More hybrids probably
Can’t imagine how expensive it’ll be- based on current ludicrous pricing.
$120,000 MSRP with a $60,000 mark up coming soon. 😂😂😂
i want round headlights i do not want square brick headlights i want nice round headlights like the OG FJ Cruiser !
Toyota would sale many more at $45,000 for sure wow!!!!!!!!!!
70-80 k you limit your market
Make it 50k and crush the bronco
Make a 30k version that is basic but bulletproof.
doors and roof need to come off..
If manufacturers would lower their prices then they could start a price war and get sales back on track with the people.
The problem is prices can’t go too much lower given how everything from raw materials to labor prices have gone up recently (not to mention OEMs not wanting to extend their supply chain inventory in the event another dramatic shift occurs).
I the Toyota 4Runner will probably be smaller truck. They have plenty of suvs
I’d love to be excited about it but know its starting price would be no less than $70K, so there’s really no point in me caring.
100k price tag right?
Andre, you've lost your dang mind!!
NONE of this matters until they get the motors right again.
Toyota will gauge the reaction it receives at SEMA.
Fj landsnoozer
all for 100k
Yeah I would consider a Toyota of the top and doors came of. They'd kill the rest of the market if they did that.
If it's $70k-$80k, then they've lost their minds. It will sell terribly.
too expensive these trophy trucks...need basic off road trucks not super fancy removable top versions..
Toyota not going down this road. They haven’t even brought out the trail hunter tundra so why would they do this.
Bring back basic simplicity, bring back utilitarian SUVs. Bring back affordability.
They’ll probably never get it done.
I rather see a small pickup truck like the Stout, rather than this.
too expensive. I am just happy to have my 4runner before they b@sterdized it.
Roofless for $70k and 2.4 turbo shit. Live long jeep wrangler 392!!!
if it's on the TNGA-F platform, it's a hard pass.
It’s not gonna look anything like their rendering
80 or 85?! day drinking much?
No thanks. It will have that turbo 4. And stealerships will mark it up like nothing else on the market.
100 k Toyota
The Bronco starts under $40,000. Please no more 'niche' vehicles. Lets get back to the basics.
Don’t think Toyota gonna do it 😔
