      They are a very conservative company. However, they have been trying to put the fun back into the pot. I think the 250 is a miss overall I looked and at in one at the auto show and then walked over and checked out the 4 runner and was like what happened. This is supposed to be their top of the line SUV it does not look it or feel that way at all plus the let down of a 4 cylinder . Toyota needs to bring back the Celica stop playing with the Corolla nix the gr86 and develop an honest supera. The customers await

      JLU owner here and I wish I had an oem dropdown tailgate. I would love to have the 6’ bed to haul and sleep in. Maybe a new fangled flip up vertical opening spare carrier over the bed so you can leave the tailgate down. The open bottom doors are obv unrealistic but the midgate is THE killer app. When I saw the Cybertruck live at the 2019 reveal it was another unibody without a midgate. So I told the lead engineer that they “blew it” politely 😂. I then passed on my reservation. Same with Rivian R1T since I don’t want a truck cab/bed only or giant Chevy EV/Avalanche. So this midsized truck/suv midgate could be the most versatile vehicle EVER. It just needs 3 rows and a rear bed cap with sport bar supported roof rack. Decades ago I designed a cab forward van/truck/suv with 3 row seats for design class and have yet to see one because I added a removable/sliding roof and drop down tailgate - think ROX combo with the rear of the Surf retro 4Runner. Please tell Toyota to make it - and take it 💵. No exaggeration you can hear and feel everyone at SEMA just loved these new concepts 🙏🏼👊🏼🤙🏼 (EDIT: wow just saw Adam and the Calty design team in the Toyota USA making of ROX video which is awesome. What a fun job!)

    this is exactly how the FJ Cruiser concept came about 20 years ago and toyota heard our feedback and built it. nothing today has a 6spd MT fulltime 4WD like my FJ and i hope they build this with a manual transmission to make it even more fun!

    • @Steve-yr5vi
      @Steve-yr5vi 16 дней назад +1

      Why is full time 4WD a good thing? It wastes gas needlessly. I own a 125 acre backwoods farm with no paved roads and significant climbs and if it's dry I rarely do have a need to put it in 4WD. A honestly the electric rear locker is about as effective as 4WD in most instances where traction is limited. I still have 4 auto, 4 high and 4 lo if necessary, generally I only use them when the ground is soft, water crossings, snow.

    • @CoolioDaMan
      @CoolioDaMan 16 дней назад

      Ah yes...there's the rub.. my 2007 FJ MT has been rock solid since day one ( throw out bearing excluded) and if any fool believes that ANY late model Toyota product will last 17 bullet proof years, they are clueless... Don't believe me?... Drive a base 1958 LC for $60k and see why Toyota is now Toy-Yugo..

      @@Steve-yr5vi always good to have the option for something depending on the owners want or need. There are currently part time 4wd options available, the OP was just hoping for a more aggressive model with full time. If that is not for you that is definitely okay but other people might want or need that depending on their use.

    • @geraldg8327
      @geraldg8327 13 дней назад

      @@Steve-yr5vi my preference for fulltime 4WD is that I am able to drive on highways (above 80 km/h) while maintaining VSC during the snowy/slippery winter months in Canada. With part-time 4WD like in the 4Runner (except Limited trims), there is no option to drive with 4 wheel drive without defeating VSC. There are instances where you hit a patch of ice or strong crosswinds on the highway and VSC has helped maintain control while avoiding the ditch or worse.. colliding with oncoming vehicles on two-way traffic highways. I commute 90 km to work on these kinds of roads, and to me, fulltime 4WD is worth the 1-2 mpg compared to driving in 2H. My FJ is lifted on 35s with 500 lbs of additional mods (or 800 lbs if loaded for a trip) so mpg is not a concern as it already gets like 13 mpgs.

    Dang, this thing is wild. Obviously a concept so I would expect all of that to make production but the general configuration is a winner. Seriously a midgate SUV like this bridges that gap that people are trending toward with those stupidly small pick-up truck beds. Roman and Andre, Someone is obliged to remind you an affordable, 2 door 70 Series is in production today. Would it not be easier to upgrade the 70 series for global markets than retool 250 Series production facilities to build this? I would also like to see Toyota resume production of the 2 door Prado which they built for decades.

    • @donleamon8653
      @donleamon8653 16 дней назад +2

      Thing is, it takes a body that meets US crash regs. In order to do that, you get something like the 250 or 300. I highly doubt that they could modify a 70 enough to pass. Lot more to it now than a 5 mph bumper. Now, could they offer us a bare-bones stripped version of the 250 and 300 now? Seems like they could and do in some places.

    • @rightlanehog3151
      @rightlanehog3151 16 дней назад

      @@donleamon8653 At this moment the Prado is in production with 2.7 2TR-FE gasoline engine and the 300 is being built with the 4.0 1GR-FE V6. The 'stripped' 300 sells for around $60K overseas and I have not yet seen a price for the 'bare-bones' Prado.

    Toyota will never build this level of Land Cruiser. But maybe, just maybe, they will give us something close that the aftermarket and enthusiasts can take to the next level. Toyota listen, I refused to buy the 250 because it was small and I didn’t want a four banger. But I would overlook the engine if you made a Land Cruiser where we could take the top off. I would immediately order one. And while you’re at it, give us a 6 speed manual transmission.
    Cheers to the design team and everyone that worked on these builds. You brought the fun!
