Plath siblings, Moriah and Micah, are confronting their parents after being kicked out six months ago. They share their struggles with adult responsibilities like juggling multiple jobs and blame their parents for not preparing them for the real world after being sheltered from outside influences for so long. While the discussion with their extremely religious parents looks civilised from the outsider's point of view, big emotions are bottled up under the surface.
Body language when the daughter and the son turn their bodies to face the dad, but absolutely refused to face the mom. Shows they still have some trust in dad at least.

@@leahtv7778 exactly. I had a customer that homeschooled her 5 kids, but she didn't teach every subject herself. She was in a homeschool group and sent her kids to another mom who taught them Dutch, a dad who taught guitar, and the local science museum held science classes. Other parents sent their kids to her for math lessons.
@Angel Carter very suspicious that they had to get a GED. I'm not sure of the laws in their state, but in mine, if you're filing the appropriate paperwork and keeping records...it equals a high school diploma.

Did anyone else get the feeling that most of the issues arise bc the mom is toxic? The dad seems much more open to starting a healthy relationship with all the kids, while the mother behaves as if she only wants control.
Both of the parents are incredibly toxic. The dad just disguises it better.

I agree. I feel like he feels like he has to go along with whatever mom says and wants to do always But if he was able to be his own parent that things may be different.

@@thorleif8872 They are both so unbelievably so toxic to their children but I believe the wife is the ring leader because of the life she lived prior. There always has to be someone in charge (I lived it with my parents) and that’s the mom in this case. She even explains that she wanted to raise them differently than what she experienced so they didn’t go on to do the things she did. The brainwashing they both do is so harmful and I guarantee every single one of those kids will flee the nest once they can. All of my brothers and sisters did too.

I feel like the Dad can be just as bad as the mom, he often doesn't respect their boundaries and expects the kids to do what he says no questions asked.

I think the mother is jealous of her own kids. She obviously doesn’t miss a meal or a snack or anything else. She probably married early..had kids and regrets she never had that freedom.

@@bm421 if the parents were truly caring, the kids would've tried to stayed with them. their parents raised them sheltered, and now they have to learn adulthood all at once. my friend of mine has a similar situation like this, you have no idea how scary it is to be abandoned then be expected to deal with all of this so suddenly.

I'm a family therapist, and maybe everyone here was on their best behavior for the cameras, but this family actually communicates, addresses feelings, and takes personal accountability *so much* better than MANY families I have worked with. Clearly they have their own stuff currently and in the past to work through, but I've seen *way* worse.
I’m not a therapist but I thought the same thing. They all communicated their side and the negative perspective of the mom seems genuine and the positive perspective of the dad seems even more genuine.
I agree. they had a different up bringing but I think they are painting a way worse picture for tv... they did some wrong things but I do believe they love their children. Instead keeping them away from everything maybe should have explained life decisions and options
This might not have happened if it wasn’t on TV. For all we know there was a therapist involved behind the scenes to guide them to communicate the way they did.

@@ok-xp9lo the parents homeschooling their kids their entire lives messed them up. Not socializing and meeting new people or working with other students in projects. College is all about test prep and group work and speaking to classmates to be able and get through the entire semester. They left and had to get a GED. No diploma.
my friend was home schooled and it has messed her up... she can't even go to college bc of it

When the mom says “I gave you school work and you didn’t do it” that just screams toxic. If your child is struggling to keep up or doesn’t feel the will to do “school work”, the mom should had stepped in and helped the child.
@Juck The Few For a 6 or 7 year old child? They didn't only homeschool them in high school. Also, a teacher's job is different than a parent's job. It is a parent's job to make sure that their children are doing their schoolwork, whether they are being homeschooled or in traditional school. I know I wasn't allowed to do anything after school until my homework was completed. If my brother or I were struggling with any homework, our mother sat down with us and worked on it with us. You can't ask the same of a high school teacher, because they don't go home with their students.

So disgusting to watch this again. These parents act just like mine. Honestly, without the camera crew around I wonder if Micah and Moriah would have been ok to still confront them. Barry and Kim will never accept any responsibility beyond “well nobody’s perfect” or “we have shortcomings”. Any specific shortcoming that will be brought up will always be put on the kids.
This just shows how important it is to not be manipulative and controlling towards anyone and especially your kids.

Teens also need to make the choice to do the work. The onus isn't solely on the mother. I have a teenager and she definitely knows what needs to be done and chooses not to do it. You can only hold their hand for so long.

He does not believe they did anything wrong or have anything they need to be forgiven for. He’s making the kids seem like they just don’t understand. He may be the second in command after the mom, but make no mistake. A manipulator is a manipulator. And allowing the mother to behave the way she had done and not stepping in hold still make him just as bad and just as guilty
You can see how heartbroken he is about his daughter feeling so uncomfortable. Maybe it’s editing, maybe it’s scripted, maybe it’s all fake, but what their eye contact is saying is undeniable.
Whether or not you feel it’s justified to “snoop” to see what your kids are up to on social media, you should realize they are intentionally excluding you from that portion of their life.

You underestimate how having that many kids affects a woman's body. Her hormones and metabolism likely took a hit with each pregnancy.

Whoever could survive could carry on the family name and whatnot bla bla bla. Guess what? You almost never saw any of these women so severely obese and for lack of a better word... unattractive. Why? Because even after having kids, they went out and worked. Hard work. Seems like this control freak needs a bit of that. Just do ANY form of labour.
In the last episode she admitted to letting her kids under 12 have a cup of coffee but it was ok because it was “only once a week”... I don’t understand how she thinks THAT’S ok but not a slice of cake for a birthday.

I have been in a similar position with my father, but I was lucky enough that I still had my mother who recognized she was truly wrong and she tried her best to help me further in life. Not perfectly.. she certainly had her own issues after leaving my father, but at least she truly admitted she had been wrong and genuinely apologized.
I have an ex who was homeschooled her entire life and the issue of not being prepared or confident enough to take on college or some form of higher education is a real thing. It was kind of shocking.
Well that isn't all homeschooled kids.
My siblings and I were all home schooled. We all went straight to college with academic scholarships and my brother is a doctor so....

Humans are social creatures...if you grow up isolated you will not developt social skills...and that can cause a lot of troubles to a person. You can do home school, but you have to do other social activities.

The daughter is literally working in the automotive industry. That right there is a big achievement. A lot of people living in that industry get paid a lot because working with cars is hard work.

I got kicked out at 16. Totally uneducated, didn’t even know how to do laundry. Seeing their kids faces breaks my heart 😞. I will never push my kids out in the world unprepared. I will Teach independence while providing that forever home if they ever need

I will also provide a forever home to my children. My parents did that for me and it grew me into such more loved, cared for and therefore giving individual. That is one thing I absolutely love my family for. For acting like one.

Coming from someone who was homeschooled and plans on homeschooling my own kids “I gave you school work and you didn’t” is total BS. So much goes into accrediting your high school years. GA is very homeschool friendly....she had no excuse. She gave them school work but didn’t help them, children don’t value discipline if you don’t teach them that.
exactly, parents need to act like teachers and if you don't then don't act surprised that the kids aren't doing well.

Why would you do that to your kids. Absolutely horrible. They're going to miss out on a lot of great things if they don't go to a public school with other kids. Maybe give your kids the option before they resent you for it when they're older.

Kids never realize or appreciate the sacrifices parents make for their children until they have their own kids.
I can't believe that the parents shelter their kids from the world and then they wonder why their kids turn away from them when they are older.
This was literally my mother. No trust, always a lecture, even after moving out. Taught me to always doubt myself... it took years to regain confidence in my actions.

Do not listen to her if she tries to guilt trip you into coming back or giving you a half-assed apology, leave her in the dust, and hope that the next time you see her is in the obituary section of the morning paper.

Mom's response to her homeschooling being lacking in preparation to the real world is to say she's going to isolate the younger ones even worst by not letting them get jobs. I would guess these parents were both free to live life as teenagers.
These kids are SOOOOO much more emotionally mature than their parents. I have no doubt the parents endured their fair share of trauma, and I'm willing to bet THEIR parents were even MORE closed-off and difficult... Even so...They need to work on humility, openness, and learning how to say, "I'm SORRY, I was wrong, please forgive me, I love you"

The mom acts like it isn’t her job to parent them “we poured ourself into them”... yeah you are their mom that’s your job.
That's one of the reasons I find both of these parents very manipulative. No child should be encouraged to feel guilty for being a child, which is just what phrases like this do.

These parents trying to blame the kids for their own failures is sickening. "I gave you school work you didn't do it" yeah mama, they don't have diplomas because of you. "we couldn't talk to you" because you broke that relationship with your own kids early on and didn't provide them with an environment that cultivated trust. you still stalk them for heaven's sake.

Their son said it exactly right. You try to prepare them for the real world, do all you can to set them up for success, and want them to go further than you did. And you cheer them on and be so proud of them when they do go further. That, to me, has been the best part - watching her succeed and cheering her on.

I like how the mom just says "do your school work" but never says anything about actually teaching them. Just "I gave you the handouts it's your fault if you didn't understand it."

I feel like the dad is coming around because he is starting to regret the way they raised them because he see how it effected them but the mom on other hand just sees it was rebellion
“I gave you schoolwork and you didn’t do it” YOU are responsible for your child’s education and see to it that their education fits their needs, THEY are not responsible. Let’s stop blaming homeschooled kids for not doing their work when there are other reasons they struggle they aren’t just always lazy.
The older siblings are free and living life to the max. Hopefully they keep making healthy choices. The younger kids at home I'm worried for the most. They may have a really hard time adjusting.

That father is so much more accepting then that mom. Just in the way she told mariah that she knew she had a boyfriend. She told her like "haha I know what your hiding and I disapprove" but the dad smiled and said excitingly "you have a boyfriend!"

If I’ve learned anything from this show is to stay away from extremes as a parent. Micah is 100% correct you can’t prepare your kids for the modern world if you’re constantly trying to run away from it. Learn to communicate with your kids difficult topics and start that conversation early.
She's so strong, I mean I can't imagine how hard it is. I got kick of my house at 20 and still struggling. No way I want to sit in front of my parents. But, I do like to watch those show because I feel less lonely
