I’m from southern New Mexico, and one thing I’ve learned about hiking scorching hot desert trails: bring an umbrella to protect you from the beating sun and carry with you a vacuum sealed insulated container carrying water. Believe me, when you hike miles in the heat and you take a sip from that ice cold water, it becomes such an spiritual experience, it makes a world of different like night and day. And your experience doesn’t become as dreadful hiking the desert during those summer seasons.
You guys are ROCKIN IT ... excellent photography, excellent narration, and more. Best wishes for all your adventures ahead, and THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing them here on RUclips. Safe travels!
Thank you for adding the historical facts regarding the mine. Just can't beat the vast vistas of the desert environment. I enjoyed the video. Happy travels and stay safe!
One of the reasons big units are parked outside the park is that most National Parks have a length restriction on camping units. From their website "At Hidden Valley and White Tank Campgrounds, RVs and trailers may not exceed a combined maximum length of 25 feet".
Yep you're absolutely right. We saw that once we went to camp inside the national park. The sites are pretty dang small except for a select few that most likely fill up REALLY fast.
Hi. Thanks for taking time to share, yes i have just watched all your videos and i loved it. i living in my van from spring to autumn, and i can't wait for it to get warmer so i can move out in my van and start living on the road again. its still to cold her in Norway for van living so it was very nice to watch yours videos. I subscribed so i won't miss your next upload, and thank you again David and Jenni for taking time to share yours adventures.
Thank you that means a lot to us! How cold are the winters in Norway? Thankfully America is large enough that we can travel south for the winter and north for the summer to always be in moderate temperatures! Thanks again for the kind and encouraging words! Safe and happy travels =)
Luckily i live at the coast, close by Bergen so the temp is around 40 °F and down to10 °F. But in the inland it can go down to -50 °F at the coldest places. I can drive down south to Spain and take the winter there, i my try that out once. Safe travels!
Man, you guys are living the dream! Your videos are so inspirational - they just make me want to pack up and hit the road. Keep doing what you're doing! Happy trails :-) P.S. - Your doggo is ADORABLE!
Wow thank you Jon! One of our goals in all this is to share our story hoping to inspire others to chase their dreams as well. We took the plunge and have never been happier - we love this life! We agree, Sweetie is absolutely adorable. We love her with all our hearts!
Thank you for the tip! Unfortunately we've already left the park (our videos lag about 2 weeks behind real time). We will definitely be back though and we'll keep the hot springs in mind!
I just found you two! Love your vlog. I follow quite a few RV travelers and I love that you guys incorporate so much knowledge , especially the plants and geo stuff!! You guys are great!!
Thank you Deb! We find all the stuff we learn on our hikes incredibly interesting so we are just sharing it with everyone else too! Thanks so much for the kind words =)
Definitely plan on making that one of our stops. Looks beautiful and so peaceful. Nice video once again and you guys do a great job with the narrative as well.
Joshua Tree is now one of our favorite places we've been. It is so peaceful and scenic! We love hikes and being surrounded by nature and that is exactly what this national park is all about! Thank you Mike =)
There are very few spots in the park that can accommodate the bigger units. Your rig will fit perfectly & going during the week is a much better idea! I believe you can go in & find a spot, leave a tent set up, pay the fee & then bring your TT back! If you don't have a tent you can get a small pop up one at Walmart for $30. Always good to have when looking for 1st come sites.
I’ve just been following along with you all for a few months, and I have to say, I am loving your videos! Your shots are great and you give the perfect amount of information while showing the scenery. Keep having fun out there! Someday - if you have kids - all 4th graders get a free National Parks pass for a year. We got one for our son (in 4th grade) and love it!!
Really enjoy your videos! This is great!! I can, however, highly recommend a sun hat and light colored long sleeves like a white Columbia spf shirt. Keep up the excellent work!
Good choice on the Yearly "ALL PARKS" pass. Love your truck. That's the best years of the GM instrumentation / and nicely laid out interior. I had a 2002 with a 6.0L and also a 2006 LBZ Duramax.
From an Indiana native who ended up living in Florida for 15 years: invest in a couple wide brim hats. People wore hats for ages for a good reason. It'll save your face and the back of your neck. Anywho. Great video. You guys have a real talent for editing and putting all your material together.
Loved the video. Just by accident discovered your channel! I spent many years going back and forth between Big River, CA and Los Angeles. I remember Joshua Tree well. Thank you.
We loved it too Sharon! Wow, we could not imagine doing this hike in the summer. The winter sun was harsh enough, so kudos to you! We loved Joshua Tree and it's also now one of our favorite places. Thanks!
Fate Unbound also several of the Campgrounds in Joshua Tree have small spots. Oh and do you guys have WeBoost? I’ve been looking into that for our trips.
Yeah we were lucky to find a spot we could fit the truck and trailer into, which is to come in the next video. We don't have a WeBoost, but we definitely need to get a cell signal booster BAD
We heard! We weren't far, just over an hour south of the park a couple weeks ago and it got down to 33 at night a couple nights so we knew it was freezing in Joshua Tree amd we had just missed it haha.
I highly recommend wearing a broad brimmed straw hat when hiking in the desert. Think of it as portable shade. As you found out, the sun is very intense. Also, carry at least a couple liters water at a minimum and an emergency blanket and a means of lighting a fire and a signal mirror. And stay on the trail if you don't know the area.
Camped at Jumbo Rocks in June. Joshua is amazing. Midwesterner too from Ohio. And boy it was hot in June. About 110F. I think that's why the campgrounds in the park had quite a few spots available. I tent camp so I dont need much space.
Your videos keep getting better and better. Loved the sunset from Keys View. I was fortunate to get a lifetime National Park Senior pass last summer for just $10. The price has gone up since then. By the way, your pass is good at all of the Corp of Engineers parks. We've stayed at several of those for $12 - $14 with full hookups.
Yes, doing great! Have to park the Chipper at the condo for a couple of weeks as have daughter visiting. Then off to the Little Mannatee River State Park, more exploring RV Florida.
Another really great and enjoyable video! Love em, cant wait for the next. I loved the sunset. Great work guys. But again, I’m thinking watching Sweetie at the end was my favorite part. 😍. You guys help me dream of spring and camping! Thank you.
It really was, we really enjoyed wandering through Joshua Tree. We haven't been to many National Parks (only two) but so far Joshua Tree is one of our favorite places period. And the absolute silence was very weird and very cool. You have a great week too Shane!
Great video, great hike and brings to mind another big difference between there and the midwest, probably rather difficult to find a tree to "go" behind if you need a bit of privacy on the trail. :)
Nice job guys! Be sure to look up the ww2 history of where your camping, we pulled in there just for an overnight, ended up staying 10 days lol, cell coverage, the park, chirraco summit market, we loved it, Cheers! Dave & Karen
Thank you! We actually heard of you from one of our followers and subbed just the other day! The hike was really pretty, being among the joshua trees was so awesome! David actually did that timelapse with the Sony Action Cam instead of the A6000 because the color is more dead on and that was the first time he did that with that camera, so thank you!
Nice! We just found you two, as well. We are always on the hunt for RUclips channels to follow & it is hard to find a quality one. Good luck on the channel and stay in touch! Safe Travels! -Thomas & Stacy
Hey Guys, Just wanted you to know when you two youngins become seniors, you can get that National Park Pass for only $10.00 for life time. Keep up the great videos.
Beautiful scenery and good commentary. I saw you published this recently. What was the temp. If your actual hike and it's video posting were about the same time that would make it mid winter there. Can't imagine how hot it would be in a couple of months.
It was a beautiful hike, we loved it! The temperature was mid 70's, perfect for hiking. We did this hike early February, so yes I can't imagine doing this hike in summer either! It's probably not safe.
Big rigs can’t fit in the campground from what I have heard from Less Junk More Journey. BBut if you want to stay there, their were sites. They said they had to rent two just so they could park their car when they unhitched. They also said the north campground has the prettiest views. But on the day they were leaving about a week ago it snowed! A suggestion for you would be to do your hiking early in the morning before the heat of the day. And that is the one draw back to being on BLM land. You have a long drive to everything. But while you are there do your south side viewing and then try to get a spot on the north campground and you will be close to everything there.
+Sharon Cullen Art There are some sites that larger rigs can fit in, but they are hard to get since they're in high demand. Thankfully our trailer is only 25ft long so it can fit just about anywhere. The long drive was pretty rough...it was a good hour and fifteen minutes from the BLM land south to the trail head!
being a veteran of Joshua tree I can tell you it's a mistake to not take a big gardeners hat at any time of the year. When it's summer I never go out hiking after 10 am Or before 5ish. I bet you would like Jumbo Rock's, there is a lot of trails near borders and it's very shaded compared to other sites. Glad you had fun!!!
Great video...how warm did it get for the pup in the RV? Do you guys have any devices monitoring temp interior to your phone's? What has been min. max. Daily temp so far?
You need to be there before 11 am to wait till someone leaves. If i remember right the check out time is 11 am it is your best time to get in as they fill-up quickly just a quick hack for you
Joshua Tree is awesome. Just spent a good week in Death Valley - about 4 hours north of you. February is the month to go there, because it's big, dry and really really hot in summer. Did I mention it's hot there in summer? :-)
If you like rock formations, strange vegetation and desert, odd salty creeks, salt flats etc. - yes, Death Valley is an interesting place to go. There are a few campgrounds in the park - wildrose near the charcoal kilns is a nice one and not very crowded but really remote to the rest of the park, Mesquite up north is also not very crowded. It's close to Ubehebe Crater which is really nice when sunset lights it up in red light. If you want to go boondocking I'd check out the Beatty, NV area. It's only a bit over 20 miles outside the park to the east and a lot cheaper than anything in the park (there's a restaurant - VFW something - serving $1.50 beer on tap and the food is nothing special but well cooked. It's a rather smoked up place though). Not sure how much is BLM land around there but I saw a few dispersed campers in the bushes. Beatty has a lot of RV parks and stuff and some restaurants as well as a gas station that is RV and big rig friendly. You should also be able to find water and a dump there. Plus, there's wild donkeys roaming around who might just come visit you at night.
NO CELL SERVICE IN THE PARK, be careful. This is a very beautifully done video, you two do SUCH a great job. Middle of the week is much better than the weekends. Annual pass IS the way to go unless you're an old fart like me LOL.
Again I’m probably a day late & a dollar short with telling you guys .....Joshua Tree is very close to my heart though we’ve yet to visit there (bucket list) Anyway, my four year old’s middle name is associated with JT. Ever heard of Gram Parsons? Like old time rock & roll? Country Rock? Research his name. Intriguing story. Again, you guys have probably already heard the tales. Be safe 🚋
Heh, hiking ain't easy is it? Anyone looking at an overnight or multi day hike in Joshua tree, check out the coxcomb mountains on the east side of the park. Did a 3 day backpacking trip there a few years ago, it was awesome. You can find the video if you search "coxcomb mountains hiking". Almost nobody hikes there, you'll have it to yourself!
Beautiful video! You guys do a great job! Wondering how you keep the trailer cool for Sweetie when you're gone. Do you have enough solar to run the a.c.? Curious because that's my fear of going off the grid.
Thank you Sue, that means a lot to us!! Whenever we leave, if its a warm day, we open all the windows and turn the MAXXFAN on hi. We always make sure Sweetie's water dish is full as well. If it's especially hot we'll put some portable fans in the windows as well to help draw in more air. We cannot run the A/C on our solar because it will drain our batteries down completely VERY fast. Since we don't have A/C we move with the weather and stay where it is mild depending on the season.
Really been enjoying your channel - just started from the beginning yesterday. Well done! I just saw a video from Less Junk More Journey from Joshua Tree. I think they are 1st come 1st serve there. And pretty small sites, which may be why you’re seeing the big motor homes and 5th wheels out there. Have fun and look forward to following the journey!
Thank you! We're glad you're enjoying them =) The sites inside Joshua Tree are pretty small and most are first come first serve, which we like since we usually go places in the middle of the week when everyone else is back home. You're exactly right that is why the larger motorhomes and fifth wheels are out on the BLM land, they can't fit inside the park!
Unfortunately that is only admission into the park. If you want to also camp inside the park there are additional daily site fees. For Joshua Tree they are $15 per night at most campgrounds (no hookups) and $20 at a few that have water.
I love your videos! What about rig security? Are you confident to leave for the day and your RV will be safe when on public lands? We’re about to start that life style but am concerned about that. Thanks!
She is always incredibly happy when we get back. We love taking her on hikes with us but dogs aren't allowed on any trails in Joshua Tree, too many poky things all over and on the trail!
I was just about to say, "Why wouldn't you get the national pass?!", and BOOM, you did it. Nice! Well worth it for travelers. You'll also like that it gets you discounts at places like national forest campgrounds. Awesome vid, you two.
Hahaha yeah we didn't know that existed until the park ranger asked if we wanted it. Once she told us the price it was a no brainer! We'll use the heck out of that thing haha. We didn't know that it provides discounts at national forests also! Thanks for the tip!!
We have savings and if we need to take our pets into a vet we call around for pricing and then taken them in as needed. We don't really buget for things like that, we just have our savings and pull from it as needed
I just begin watch you guys love you videos looking to plan a trip to Maryland which is virtually my Homestead I've been in Wisconsin for the last 10 years what would you recommend staying Eastern Shore if you've ever been there I'm looking to go to Ocean City Maryland can I do this around June. PS are you guys pulling with a diesel
Most National parks campgrounds are on a first come basis. Go early morning to get in. I don't even try. Most campgrounds can't accommodate a 45 ft rig. Most boondockers will say that the views are better boondocking outside the parks. I'm surprised you didn't know about the America the Beautiful Pass. We have the senior's pass. Did you check the trail rating?
You two Are So Beautiful together....really nice, sweet people. My first intro to you guys was your video with the crazy lady that tried to make y'all leave "her" park...OMG....I am Not as patient as you guys...Love your vids! Love you guys!
Wow that really sucks no bikes allowed. As if a bike will really do a huge part of damage. Wind does more damage. Lived in NC my ex was shocked I kept up with her on hikes cause back then was 58 that was 10 Yrs ago. 41 Yrs of moving furniture helped keep me in shape. Well when you can bike it. It helps. Sore butt at first lol.
What is the deal with reservations at National parks? Are there any first come first serve or do you have to make a reservation months out? Nice video btw:)
I'm not sure, but Jenni and I agree. We wish they were all first come first serve, but that's probably because then we'd have the advantage of getting in haha. Our lifestyle lends itself to first come first serve, especially since we have no idea where we're really going to be in a month so making reservations that far out is basically impossible. Thank you! =)
It seeme to be reservations only though a third party website these days. I hate it and have cut way back on camping at National Parks and monuments. Boondocking a far better anyway and you can zoom into the park for every day you can devote. Can you tell I hate reservations? Get the pass for sure!
Yep we also prefer the first come first serve system to reservations. It can be REALLY hard to get in when everything is booked up for months in advance... Oh well, like you we also love boondocking, so if we can't get in then we'll just stay outside the park (most times for free) and drive on in!
@@FateUnbound my family and I have been on the road for 5 months. We had one reservation the whole time, but cancelled it. We tried to make one for yosmite it was full in less than a minute 300+ sites sold out. There is a silver lining to not getting that reservation it would have been cancelled by the NPS due to the fire.
Sweetie girl 🐕 🐾, I just LOVE you honey!!!! You are truly special xoxoxo xoxoxo xoxoxo!!!!! That sun looked like it would fry bacon and eggs 🍳!! @Jaden James I would suggest FlixZone. Just search on google for it :)

Please plan any desert hikes for early morning starts! The desert sun is cruel.
The good part with the north BLM land is pretty good it’s only 10 mins from the west entrance really close to a lot of the hiking trails
Nice video composition, guys! :)
Thank you Rick we appreciate that!
Joshua trees in Arizona as well. North of Wikieup.
The time lapse at the end was great.
Great video...how warm did it get for the pup in the RV? Do you guys have any devices monitoring temp interior to your phone's? What has been min. max. Daily temp so far?
We have quite a few Joshua Trees here in Arizona....
You need to be there before 11 am to wait till someone leaves. If i remember right the check out time is 11 am it is your best time to get in as they fill-up quickly just a quick hack for you
Great video!! Y’all explain everything so well! Love that rott! We just starting to eat more p b sandwich es . Spending less is the key!
haha, I love how nerdy you both are sometimes! :-)
+The Jason Haha thanks Jason, we're not afraid to show our nerdy side!
How are they nerdy??
@@FateUnbound That's right, live life to the fullest.
Joshua Tree is awesome. Just spent a good week in Death Valley - about 4 hours north of you. February is the month to go there, because it's big, dry and really really hot in summer. Did I mention it's hot there in summer? :-)
We agree, Joshua Tree is now one of our favorite places we've been! We are going to Death Valley here soon. How was it? Is there much to see?
@@uweschroeder - I would love those donkeys!! 😆😊😉😄
NO CELL SERVICE IN THE PARK, be careful. This is a very beautifully done video, you two do SUCH a great job. Middle of the week is much better than the weekends. Annual pass IS the way to go unless you're an old fart like me LOL.
Tonto Schwartz old guys rule! If you're 62 for the same price as the annual pass you can get a LIFETIME PASS, I'll be getting mine in December
Be safe 🚋
Great music. Good Video!
Great info. Just subscribed. Thanks
@@FateUnbound - Do you guys ever wish that you had A/C?? ❄⛄
LOVED this video! I love that park!!
America the beautiful pass is the way to go for sure.
Great video! What kind of camera do you guys use by the way?
What did you do with your pets and the heat while hiked? Did you have to leave AC running?
Admission to the federal parks, does that allow you to take the rv in and set up or is it extra?
Unfortunately that is only admission into the park. If you want to also camp inside the park there are additional daily site fees. For Joshua Tree they are $15 per night at most campgrounds (no hookups) and $20 at a few that have water.
What do you do with the critters when you go like this?
They stay behind in the RV. We leave the windows down and our maxxfan on and make sure everyone has plenty of water before we leave.
Just wondering how hot does it get in your camper?
I love your videos! What about rig security? Are you confident to leave for the day and your RV will be safe when on public lands? We’re about to start that life style but am concerned about that. Thanks!
I think Sweetie is glad your home.
Hey quick question! When you do the time lapse in your videos, are you using the times lapse feature in your camera?
This is in on my list for sure.
Loved the video and the background music. Who do you use for the music in your videos?
Thank you! This particular video used a song made by Ikson, but we also use David Cutter, and Andrew Applepie primarily
Wondering if you’ve ever encountered any emergency needs for the pets? Do you have a fund set up for this contingency? Thanks for the great videos!
Good show
Hey guyz, who put your Solar on your RV?
We did actually. We have a whole playlist dedicated to our solar install if you're interested you could check it out.
The annual pass is the way to go. 🤙
Good video
Thank you Rick!
GREAT video!!!! Thank you David 👨 and Jenni 👩, love you!!!!
Beautiful area!
Yeah Joshua Tree was absolutely beautiful.
awesome!
Thank you!
I finally caught up... Yay me.
You two Are So Beautiful together....really nice, sweet people. My first intro to you guys was your video with the crazy lady that tried to make y'all leave "her" park...OMG....I am Not as patient as you guys...Love your vids! Love you guys!
That’s still a lot of gold. They made good money 💰 there.
Does that come to over 500 lbs of gold? Thats still a ton of money!
Do you ever run into snakes on your hikes in the desert?
Hei sweet page ☺ Keep it up!
Thank you! We will =)
dont leave her behind!!!!!!
Alessandra Busby i agree
Amen!!!
I was shocked at that part. Being left alone on a trail sucks so much!
The dog?
Sweetie girl 🐕 🐾, I just LOVE you honey!!!! You are truly special xoxoxo xoxoxo xoxoxo!!!!! That sun looked like it would fry bacon and eggs 🍳!! I am so happy that you guys had water and that you put on sunscreen, you're so smart!!! Please David 👨, promise me that you will NEVER leave Jenni 👩 behind ever again, she could have had a problem of some kind and we surely don't want that to happen!!! I am so happy 😆 that you are enjoying your adventures and being safe and smiling 😊 happy 😆 smiles and you had better be kissing 💏 goodnight everynight even when you have disagreements with David 👨 😉😉😆😊😄 Love you all, ❤ Auntie Didi 👵
And just where is your wide brimmed hat?, young man! LOL. SERIOUSLY get a hat.
How do you guys not sweat?
