Keep your videos just the way they are......including the cock ups! Exce;llent and informative as usual. Merry Christmas!
Thanks Wayne, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
Thanks so much Charlie, John Robertson Australia.
Agree with other comments, keep the videos as they are, the work will dictate the length required, it's nice to see the 'faux pas', we all make them, it makes them fun to watch too!
That most kind and useful too Kevein.
I've never understood why viewers would complain about a longer video, especially such an Informative one. All they need do is change viewing Speed in the Settings or breakdown into several viewing sessions. RUclips keeps a History for easily recalling an unfinished viewing.
Keep Up the Great Work!
Thanks Robert, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
Hey Charlie, as the dalek said jumping off the dustbin "we all make mistakes y' know" Great video Charlie and have a Cool Yule, Terry.
Thanks Terry, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it. I do hope that you have a great Christmas, and a successful 2020, regards Charlie.
I really admire the care and dexterity that you demonstrated fitting wiring and gluing your points.
Thanks Alan, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
Hi Charlie,
Brian here from across the pond in Georgia. I'm in the process of building a yard for my Chessie System layout. Until now I've been clipping the end ties from my Atlas flex track. The other day I watched one of your videos where you simply filed the "spike" from the end tie. I tried this and am quite happy to report it works great and looks much better.
Merry Christmas
Cheers,
Brian
Hi Brian, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
Great video Charlie, went back to look at your point & track installation. As I'm just starting track installation on my layout. Can't get enough tips!
That’s great news AB. I’m so pleased that you find the channel useful. Regards Charlie
"I really hope i don't have to take this up!" 😆
I feel safe Les this time.
Regards Charlie
Charlie - you are a genuinely good presenter. Love the cock-ups - I feel I am not alone!
None of us are perfect Ian, that’s for sure. Regards Charlie
Charlie, happy to know I am not the only one who makes mistakes. Really enjoyed this one.
Planning is everything, if only I did mine properly!
yup Charlie we all make mistakes or we wouldn't learn our self's, ,put your hand up who has done the same ,if your hands not up ,your lying. great tutorial as usual ,keep em comming ,if i dont hear from you before Christmas ,i wish you your ever patient wife ,and all other viewers a very Merry Christmas , take care for now, Mac
Thanks NESR, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
Quote of the day “ honestly I felt such a nugget”
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Daniel.
Very presentable - thank you!
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it FRDD.
Spotted the golden nugget! Very honest recovery - a lot of others would edit it all out!! You're as human as the rest of as at least!
Thanks John, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
For the Frog Motor wire Piano or otherwise, may I recommend a cycling tool cable cutter that is used for cutting tough high tensile steel wire used for brakes and gears and could get in close enough to your sleepers without the Dremmel thing! About £10.
Thanks Ian, an interesting option.
Here was I thinking you were a man who never made a mistake .
Well done Charlie.
Happy Christmas.
If only Tony. I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
For viewers who are not aware, The Tortoise point motor has 2 of the 1 Normally open, 1 Normally closed and a common terminal, internal switches which is what charlie was soldering the wires to.
In addition to the 2 terminals for point operation.
Well said Sam, I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
Thank you and I wish you a merry Christmas also.
I enjoyed actually seeing the process (instead of Camera Magic) because that shows how much Work goes on unseen during Model Railroading. Truthfully, if this isn't done correctly then nothing will function properly.
Also love the Upgrade Secrets to ensure longevity of Operation.
Keep up the Great Videos and MERRY CHRISTMAS to You and Your Family as well as to other Viewers and Their Families!!
Thanks Robert, it’s comments such as yours that make it worthwhile.
Hi Charlie, I am new to your channel as I am to railway modelling, in later life. I found you video so precise and helpful. Looking forward to viewing the rest. Thanks.
Thanks Jerry, it’s great to have you onboard.
Chadwick Model Railway thank you Charlie
Thanks again for sharing with us, foibles and all, with all the time you spend making these, it is gratifying that we all make these mistakes
You are so welcome Richard. Regards Charlie
Love the jumper!
I just couldn’t resist it Josh.
I also learn from the mistakes shown, as it helps my morale when I make a mistake as it helps reduce my frustration. As even an expert such as you can make a mistake and shrug it off and fix it and continue. Thanks for all the instructional videos. You provide us a treasure trove of information and advice. Stay safe and keep chugging along,
What a heartwarming comment Jim. Regards Charlie
The pace of this video was fine for me.
Thanks Stephen, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, I do hope that you have a great Christmas. Regards Charlie.
Love the jumper too
I just had to buy it.
Thank you for your video and well wishes. Merry Christmas to you!
And to you too KVR
Having gone through this video, I guess I don't have any reason to keep postponing my work 🙈
Thanks for a good walk through, you have just about sold tortoise to me 😅
Thomas
It’s time to stand up and get on with it Thomas. Regards, Charlie
Very enjoyable , happy to watch them as you are currently doing
Thanks David, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it.
It made me feel good to know that even masters, like yourself, make mistakes. Thanks for putting yourself out there.
Thanks Mark, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
Nice to actually see someone working on a railway instead of just talking about it then showing it done keep up the good work and can we have more videos like this thanks and have a nice Christmas and happy new year
Thanks Malcom, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and best wishes for 2020. Regards Charlie.
I have nothing to do with model railways. And nothing with DIY. But I love your videos!!
Thanks Peter, it’s great to have you onboard. Regards Charlie
I have loved watching your videos. A few years ago I ripped up my N gauge layout, sold everything I owned and never looked back until now. You have shown us and given us (the avid viewers) a new passion via plain speaking. I now want to rebuild - all be it a new layout in my attic... Roll on 2020. Many thanks for everything
Oh and happy Christmas and happy New Year Charlie...
Thanks Anthony, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, I do hope that you have a great Christmas. Regards Charlie.
I like the videos just as they are
Thanks Kyle.
Thanks for sharing. 😎👌🏼
You’re welcome John.
Very good Charlie well done .
Thanks Tony, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it. Regards, Charlie
This is a perfect speed to do the videos. I can work on my layout and listen and watch a bit in a relaxed state. Also all of us have made that error it think .
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Adrien.
Always important to keep points level when layout. Them down as they cause all sorts of problems for derailments when running trains otherwise
Too true TVR.
Nice informative video Charlie. Good speed for me as I am new to this and just returning to build my layout after a 40 year gap. Amazing what you forget, so for me I enjoyed the explanations and the detailed shots. More like this please.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Spence.
You are not alone Charlie.
One of the silent majority I expect Geoff.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
I too like the the speed of the video. It is so nice the watch it whitout having to go back to several times, because I missed something. When I glue something together, I use a finger to spred out the glue. I find much easyer and if you have ar wet piece og cloth within reach, it's not a problem to keep your fingers clean.
I’m so pleased that you found it interesting Steen.
The one thing that got me was that jumpers comment...”click bait” hilarious. Very informative video as usual. Like you I show any mistakes or issues I have made as well, even tho I have not done a video in ages. I find showing these things just shows other aspects of the hobby, but also how does one overcome them. Keen to see how your elevation goes with small wagons. When I put my elevation in, coaches worked fine on it but I had issues with long rakes of wagons. In the end I could not resolve it so removed the elevation. I love your videos regardless of the speed. In the end you can’t please everyone. Just please yourself which is the most important thing. Have a great Christmas and many happy returns. Clint
Thanks Clint, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it. Best wishes for Christmas, regards Charlie
Hi Charlie, love the videos just as they are. They are very clear and informative.
Thanks Tony, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
Video was just fine. Speed just right.
Thanks RB.
Thanks for the video. The way you do them & the length is fine. Happy Christmas & best wishes for a prosperous & healthy 2020. 👍👍😎
Thanks David, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, I do hope that you have a great Christmas. Regards Charlie.
I am in the process of putting up an HO layout that began almost two years ago. Your video on "points" was very timely. Thanks so much..
Thanks Norm, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
A lot of work there I don’t think I’d have the patience haha I just want to play with the trains
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, I do hope that you have a great Christmas Matthew, regards Charlie.
You too 👍
Hi Charlie. Just keep your videos as they are, no need for change. And leave the mistakes in, it shows that nobody is infallable.
I much appreciate your videos as they are informative without being boring, not an easy thing to do.
Have a great Christmas and a happy new year. Lindsay
Thanks Lindsey, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
After playing with Train Simulator for a while I decided to look up videos about model railways. The amount of work required to set it all up is astonishing!
Yes but such addictive fun!
But It really is so satisfying
Hi Charlie
Having been a modeller for many years I never fail to find your videos disappointing as I always find tips and ideas I hadn’t thought of.
I feel your delivery and speed you go through a project absolutely spot on.
Keep up the good work.
Seasonal greetings to you and your family for Christmas and the New Year.
Regards
Eltel (Terry)
Good to have been able to meet you at Warley.
Thanks Terry, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it. I do hope that you have a great Christmas, and a successful 2020, regards Charlie.
Love it Charlie. I didn’t spot the error but when you said what it was I almost died laughing! You poor chap - how annoying. What a mistake-a-to-make-a 🤣
Have a brilliant Christmas and look forward to watching more videos in the new year. 👍
Thanks SJ, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it. I do hope that you have a great Christmas, and a successful 2020, regards Charlie.
Keep your videos just the way they are great learning videos Thanks
Glad you like them TW.
Hi Charlie. Until recently I was involved with a friend on a large 0 gauge layout, on which for the last 16 or so years we used Tortoise point motors. Like you we changed the wire up to a similar size to what you use. I was disturbed for your well being seeing you use that high speed cutting device. One slip and they can do a lot of damage to the layout or yourself. Piano wire is indeed very hard and requires substantial effort to cut. After a while we discovered that the Xuron hard wire cutters did the job well and relatively safely. It might be worth trying them - we got on OK with them. Safety first perhaps! Barry.
PS keep up the good work and your interesting layout. You are one of the few railway modelling 'experts' on RUclips who seems to actually know what you are talking about1
Hi Barry, I hang my head in shame.
Yes I have relinquished cutting my piano wire in that manner. I now put it in place, mar it with a felt tip pen, remove it and cut it whilst holding it horizontally with a spinning disc.
It might not be the ideal option, but it is certainly safer. Regards Charlie
I really enjoy the way you present and edit your videos. They are clearly explained and you have very good presentation skills.
Thanks for all your help
Thanks Mr G, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
"a vicious little connector"! Love it, Charlie!
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Pete.
Oh ... And A very Merry Christmas 🎁 too you and your family!!
And you too.
Merry Christmas! And I could only hope that my mistakes were so easily fixed. Your videos are always well produced and the information so well presented. Please keep making them and I include your mistakes, it make me feel better about mine.
Thanks Greg, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
Hello Charlie, your uncovering the secret at the end reminds me of Hollywood crime thriller, where the detective unfolds the crime at the end ! Great work & very educative for the train modellers. Hats off to your guidance & patience.
Gopal Daga/India
Thanks Gopal, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it.
Charlie, you are welcomed ! Gopal
what a great video, thank you for the details of how you lay points, and tortious switches!
Thanks Joe, I’m so pleased that you found it interesting. Regards Charlie.
Totally loved the part where you modified the new point, I’m installing point motors for the first time ever and found this in valuable, yes the great finger of god is being made redundant 😂👍🏻
Thanks John, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it.
Charlie another great video! You are such a likable down to earth guy!I find alot of fellow modellers boring with no personalities!Great informative vid!Keep um coming!
Thanks CG, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video, have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
Hi Charlie Your workmanship, patience, & attention to detail fill me with admiration & envy. It' also great to know that we all make silly mistakes, it's strange how we don't notice at the time and then it suddenly dawns on you what you've done
Thanks Paul, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
Perfectly presented, thank you. You have a gift for delivering content and keeping it interesting.
Thanks Peter, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it.

The video was just right for me to follow and NO, I did not spot the mistake, but we all make them. A Very Happy New Year to you and your family, from me and mine. Martin. (Back to Bangladesh tomorrow, for 6 months this time.)( I am taking a few projects with me.)
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Martin, good luck in BD and best wishes for 2020.

Thanks John, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it. I do hope that you have a great Christmas, and a successful 2020, regards Charlie.
Hi Charlie,
Just finished watching the video and as always I like the humour / drama content I'll admit not picking out the mistake but the end result was another couple of hours of layout involvement.
Thanks for the shout out it was nice of you to do so but unnecessary. I'm just happy to provide alternatives to a fellow railway modeler.
A further suggestion is to have a curved section of track coming off the Up line track of the double slip (about the size of a large radius point) before laying the right hand point this should give you the track spacing that you want.
I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Gary
Thanks again Gary. I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
What a jumper!
I couldn’t resist it.
Another nice video Charlie, thank you. Your format is just right as it is and the main reason I keep coming back for more. Have a great Christmas and see you in 2020.
Thanks I’m so pleased that you enjoy my channel.
@41:30 - Well that's is taking "use glue to hold it in place" to another level! :D
Glue it in place ...... too many choices too.
Hi Charlie, was a pleasure to meet you at east Somerset railway model shop! Merry Christmas 🎄
Thanks WR. Yes we did have a laugh. I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and I do hope that you have a great Christmas.
Regards Charlie.
I don't mind the long videos Charlie I learn so much from them. Merry Christmas and have a great New Year.
Thanks Rod and the same good luck to you mate.
Another great video full of information for a keen learner. I have learnt so much from you and it inspires lots of us to “have a go” I am slowly working my way through your back catalogue of videos. Please do not change your presentation style, it’s relaxed, informative and even raises the odd laugh and smile.
I’m so pleased that you enjoy my videos Ian.
Brilliant advice I’m a beginner and the flow was spot on for me.
Merry Christmas Charlie
Cheers
Thanks Ade, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.

Thanks B1, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video, have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
Hello Charlie,
Just watched Your last Video, and as You were eluding to Your mistake, I turned the screen toward tbe Wife and said, Charlie must have made a good one again. Sure enough, as You picked up the Turnout, I said to my better half, there it is, he picked up the wrong Turnout, and we had a good laugh. Rest assured, it happened to me a few times.
So, We hope that You will have a Jolly Holly, and wish You all the best for the coming Year.
Ray USA
Thanks Ray, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
Great video Charlie. The length of the video and the detail you went into was just fine. For beginners like me I can learn so much, for the experts they can always fast forward. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you and your family. I look forward to your next updates in 2020.
Thanks Ian, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
Charlie, your videos are awesome. Ive learned so much. Love the bloopers, we all make them. Thia one it didnt catch. You kept me guessing till the end. Thanks.
Thanks Rick, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
I did not see the mistake but, hay oh. It was a good article. Thanks, Charlie.
Thanks Nigel, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
Hi Charlie just started watching your videos and I think they’re excellent. Even though they painfully show me what I’ve been doing wrong for the last 10 years.
Keep up the good work.
John
Hi John, I’m so pleased that you find my channel interesting. Good luck with your project. Regards Charlie.
Absolutely good speed for me and was very helpful. I had a layout many years ago which was DC with very simple point motors, I intend to build a new layout using as much as my old kit as possible but with DCC therefore any tutorials showing DCC and fitting point motors is great. Just trying to get my head around it. Thank you Charlie and I hope that you and your family enjoy a very happy Christmas.
Thanks Bob, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and best wishes for 2020. Regards Charlie.
Really enjoyable and informative video Charlie , the longer format is fine by me , look forward to seeing more of them .
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours .🎄
Thanks Graham, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
Just as I was getting track for Christmas so I can start laying- thanks for posting and keep up the good work! I love the clickbait sweatshirt. Your videos really help me as a young modeler.
Thanks Angus, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it.
Brilliant as always Charlie - I've done this myself in N gauge so feel your pain - we live and learn! Hope you have happy Christmas and a good new year. Euan
Thanks Euan, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
Merry Christmas to you Charlie and your family, keep your videos as is mainly because they are enjoyable and informative..
Got to love stuffing up but yup all done it in the past lol..
Keep up the excellent work, looking brilliant.
Thanks Sean, you’re too kind and I’m so pleased that you enjoy the channel.
Hi Charlie, Thanks so much for such a friendly and totally informative video. You’re a born teacher. Recently, at 82 years young I decided to pull out my model train stuff that I’ve had hidden away for about 40 of those years. Needless to say the track was in terrible condition, black with corrosion. I took a chance, grabbed handfuls of track and immersed it in a bath of Pepsi Cola, (I’m assuming Coke would work just as well) and let it sit for about four hours. I then rinsed the track off really well then immersed the pieces in warm water and detergent and let it sit overnight. In the morning I rinsed the track off again and scrubbed the rails and connectors with a 3M type plastic scouring pad. I was amazed to see, with very little effort, that the rails cleaned up, from charcoal grey to bright and shiny. Thanks again for your inspiration.
Welcome back to our fascinating hobby Errol. Regards Charlie
All the Best Wishes to you and your family Charlie! And Thank you for your thoroughly entertaining and insightful video productions. Merry Christmas!
Thanks Chris, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, I do hope that you have a great Christmas, regards Charlie.
