The game where the opposite team was celebrating was when Bird scored 60 points. The game before Kevin McHale broke the celtics scoring record at 54 and left the game early. Bird got on him for leaving saying "if I get that hot I'm not sitting down". He then told the press before the game that he would beat Kevin McHale's record when he scored 60. That's why it's so amazing
They weren't celebrating him so much as cracking up at the ridiculousness, the impossibility of anyone doing what he was doing, making the shots he was making-- like he just could not miss, and what he was doing was so outrageous, so unreal, it was funny-- after a while it was just so insane all they could do was marvel, shake their heads, and laugh. Also-- Jordan has said he learned how to trash talk from Larry...and he's not the only hall of famer/great who's said that.
