I remember watching Larry on TV when I was a wee lad from western Massachusetts. Dude was god, even in the hood, dude was god. I was 1 when in his rookie year, my parents had me in front of that TV watching all Boston sports. Larry is the only one who ever stuck in my mind. I couldn’t tell you a Boston player from any team back then, but Larry.
These are the best to every play the game talking about Bird...in an era when the sport was actually physical. Imagine Bird today with all the foul rules...when people couldn't touch him.
Courtship of rivals will explain EVERYTHING about the Lakers / Celtics, and the Bird / Magic rivalry and give you so much insight of how the NBA is the way it is today because it was an afterthought before these two men
Larry was just remarkably smart and he would embarrass you. I was Knicks fan when Larry came into the league and the first time I saw him play, I was just like what? That's when I started taping Celtics games.
Just so you know, even growing up in 80s in the Boston area, I had never heard any of these stories. You may not realize it, but back then the internet didn’t exist. That means the only place to get info was the newspaper. So, as someone from era, you knew Bird was great, but it makes you appreciate Bird EVEN more!
There's even more GOATNESS from Larry in the vid "5 Times Larry Bird was Injured but REFUSED to Quit". It's on the " Uncut Hoops" channel. In the prime of his career, Larry decided to help his mother build a driveway by himself. He injured his back permanently. Dan Dyrek, Larry’s orthopedic therapist, explained. “Larry Bird, the superstar, out there breaking his back, literally, shoveling gravel. And that was the beginning of a process.” Larry’s back would slip out of alignment and lock into abnormal positions, trying to create some stability. While the pain could be managed for a few hours at a time, allowing him to hit the court, the issues lingered. Even surgery couldn’t completely return the star to his best. “Every time I would play, I was wondering if I was gonna be in a wheelchair,” Bird explained. “Was I ever going to be able to, you know, walk on the beach or hold my kids?”
Hey groovy..this sums up Larry bird..I’m a laker fan that lived watching the Lakers vs Celtics rivalry..one of the best rivalries EVER..us lakers fans HATED Bird..me especially..but it was outta respect for the man cuz he wasn’t on the lakers.😂😂.. when Bird touched the ball he had us laker fans in fear..that he was money..if he missed we were like no way cuz he was THAT GOOD..🤣😂🤣😂
You can watch the 60 point game and a few others on RUclips. Loved watching his game. You should watch Larry bird greatest passer re edit and bird is the word. Great reaction.
🤷♂️ I'm glad you're getting into Larry Bird. Larry Bird is the man. He wasn't the tallest or the fastest guy on the court, but he played above the normal fundamentals. Larry might be a basketball God like Michael Jordan
I was 17 years old and went to a Cavs versus Celtics game in Cleveland. I was a huge Bird fan even though I was a Cavs fan. I was just amazed watching him play. They tore up my Cavs but Bird didn't disappoint. Even in the pregame shoot around. Bird was just throwing up shots without looking and getting nothing but net.
I did not get t chance to watch much basketball after the 60s because sports was not my thing altho I could play a good three on three game in the 70s and actually played a game against Greg Lee who went to my high school and was at UCLA when Walton etc. were here. So, I really appreciate all these youtube videos on Larry Byrd and, literally, watch them over and over. The guys was mind-blowing.
While attending college Larry's team was playing ours and we heard they had a future all American on their team. So during warm ups we tried to guess which black player he was well we were wrong. He beat our league champion team and set our arena scoring record. Loved your reactions! Happy New Year from Northern Michigan.
haven't been on your page in a minute...just got a recommendation, and it reminded me to check you out again...when i went into your videos for the like, 3 weeks or so i hadn't watched anything, all i gotta say firstly, is just by what you been doing, i finally went and hit that SUB button, with noti's on... Maybe you saw one of my long ass comments, maybe you didnt...but i mentioned that the young guys who respect and are interested in the "old heads" era and what we talk about, the BEST thing for yall to do is go back and find as many FULL GAMES, even to the point where if you doing Jordan, try to watch full games for as much of a full SEASON as you can----- and low and behold, here i am, seeing you with these 2+ hour videos watching FULL GAMES... yo, MADDDDDDDDDD respect for you kid, it aint no easy task to sit down and watch a full game, make comments, edit stuff out, maybe rewind and do it again, etc. etc., but YOU ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING... Now, that said...if you HAVE seen some of my many comments on your vids, again, maybe you dont remember this seldom mentioned "stat," maybe you do, but when these dudes talk about Larry Bird's bball IQ, all the proof you need, even BEFORE you watch even a second of his games/highlights, is this: ---- i am pretty dang sure, that Larry Bird is the ONLY man, among the "big 4" American sports (foot/base/basket-ball/Hockey) to have won: ---- rookie of the year ---- MVP ---- Finals MVP ---- coach of the year ---- executive (GM) of the year Translation? He was the best of the newest players in the league He was THE BEST in the league He was THE BEST in the playoffs/championship run He was THE BEST coach in the league for at least one season He was THE BEST at evaluating talent to put together the best team that he possibly could. He won these "the best" awards, 4 out of 5 decades, when just going by the year number... Over 5 decades of being involved in the sport, Larry Bird entered as the best, played the best among all else, played the best when it mattered the most while winning a chip, coached a virtual afterthought of a team the best over all the other coaches, and compiled the best roster of players with what he had to work with better than everyone else.... YA GOTTA take a minute to think on what kind of blend of talent and mind (and let's face it; sometimes all the talent in the world dont matter if you dont have the ability to see the game at the highest level) that is....and even when you DO, you gotta take another minute to think on how this man proved that, at least for one season, he was the best at literally every single aspect of the game, whether it be just entering, playing as a veteran, playing for a championship, passing off that knowledge to the next generation, or putting together a team to let the next coach try to do that very same thing... Don't let ANYONE tell you that Bird was great "for his time," because even when he couldn't play anymore, he lent as much as he possibly could to the game without playing, and was THE BEST AT IT.... guy is #2 on MY "GOAT" list, but if anyone dont got him at WORST top 10, and really top 5, dont bother talking to them, cuz they just dont know the sport like you are in the process of knowing it now
😅😅😅 You know what's crazy I watch Kenny play most of his career and he always had a high top but when I saw this photo I was thinking, is that a man unit 😂😂😂
They cut it short, that "off the glass into the trainer" -- he literally jumped backwards and fell into the trainer's lap. And of course the shot went off the glass and in.
Larry was the greatest player of all time! Look at each aspect of the game shooting , passing , rebounding, steels , blocks, and leadership. Who else can you say that about. From 85-89 bird average was about 28 a game and he was still a 50 40 90 people say mike was so good I love him . But after Larry and magic retired there was not a single player that could challenge him.
Bird didn't say INTO the trainers lap, even though that version is more fun. What he actually said were 2 words "trainer' lap", it didn't mean he would fall into the trainers' lap, but he was going to make the shot, from where the trainer was sitting. which was a 3-pointer. once again telling the opposition what he was going to do, then do it.
As you like the MJ and the Bird Stories you need to check out "The Best Larry Bird vs Michael Jordan Story Ever Told" - For me MJ is the GOAT, but Larry was his Nemesis😉
Jordan was this Future era that we're in now, when it comes to finesse, sauce, hops, speed, strength, no regard for the opposing player & team😂. The finesse went from Pistol Pete, to Doc. J, to Magic, then MJ was Theee future. Anyone else who came behind MJ is only doing what he done in the 80s & 90s.
I had the chance to get a great paying job in Boston in 1997. Yes it was after Bird but because of him I thought about it. Sadly I stayed in Ky with my wife now. At that time many UK players along with their head coach went there. Wish I could have made the right decision then and not the one I made.
it was the whole era....Bird was awesome but without Magic, w/o isiah, without Kareem, without 76ers, without up and coming Jordan......all the guys, Dale Ellis, Xman, on and on....what a cool time
The crazy thing about the Lebron talk is that Lebron accolades align with Magic & Kareem. Magic been to 9 titles & won 5 in 13yrs, Kareem been to 10 & won 6 in 20yrs.
If Bird makes that 3 pointer in game 5 against the Lakers, then there would be a very strong GOAT argument to make over MJ. However, my GOAT list will always be 1) MJ 2) Bird & Magic (because they belong together) 3) Wilt & Kareem (because they both belong) 4) Kobe & 5) Duncan. LeBalco is way back in the rear-view mirror and steadily losing ground.
It didn't matter whether they were white and couldn't stop Bird. The best defensive black players of his era couldn't stop Larry either, even when they double teamed him. So much for that black and white bullshit.
Glad to see you checking out the best small forward ever ..Bird!
Agree
EVER
By far!
smal 6'9 200 pounds small
Bird is a walking highlight reel. Best all-around player, that could dominate in any era in his prime.
I remember watching Larry on TV when I was a wee lad from western Massachusetts. Dude was god, even in the hood, dude was god. Danny Ainge was recruited by the NFL, he NBA AND THE BASEBALL LEAGUe.
He was no joke. Helluva athlete.
lol I was thinking the same thing about Kenny 🤣

If Larry Bird was playing in this soft cupcake era of the NBA adam silver would probably ban him

When Dougherty tells that story in public, he often leaves out the "butt-touch" piece.😂
Larry Legend and Magic saved the NBA 2 goats 🐐 ❤❤ ty groovy I enjoyed your reaction
Now you know why we loved Larry Legend goat 🐐 ty
These are such good stories. Thanks
You can watch the 60 point game and a few others on RUclips. Loved watching his game. You should watch Larry bird greatest passer re edit and bird is the word. Great reaction.
Bird bird whose bird? Damn that brother can play ! 😂😂😂
Michael Cooper is one of the best defenders of all time. Hall of Famer.
Bad ass bro!!

I wish there were more Larries Bird!

Yes .
They cut it short, that "off the glass into the trainer" -- he literally jumped backwards and fell into the trainer's lap. And of course the shot went off the glass and in.
Bird was different bro. Check ou Larry Bird Greatest Passer Re-Edit version. It's mind boggling.
Larry was the greatest player of all time! Look at each aspect of the game shooting , passing , rebounding, steels , blocks, and leadership. Who else can you say that about. Don't drink b4 Larry's Bird. I'm here for him. Mchale is underrated and Ainge is a 3 sport all-star. DJ, Parish. All deserve enough
That shoulda been when Sir Charles was in Philly.
Best all around player. What couldn't Larry do?
Yes, that's Kenny's real hair!
Check out Shawn kemp one of the best dunkers
As you like the MJ and the Bird Stories you need to check out "The Best Larry Bird vs Michael Jordan Story Ever Told" - For me MJ is the GOAT, but Larry was his Nemesis😉
Michael Jordan’s greatest day in the NBA was the day Bird retired
You clearly didn't watch during the 80s or 90s lol.
Bird retired in 1992...Jordan won 2 rings before Bird retired.
@ You missed the point dumbazz. He still never beat Bird even when he beat other teams. Even when Bird was old and injured.
Jordan was this Future era that we're in now, when it comes to finesse, sauce, hops, speed, strength, no regard for the opposing player & team😂. The finesse went from Pistol Pete, to Doc. I had the chance to get a great paying job in Boston in 1997. Yes it was after Bird but because of him I thought about it. Sadly I stayed in Ky with my wife now. Trash talking is a lost art. You can't do it in today's game without some kinda repercussion. It's lame.
when byron scott says coop was the best defender he means michael cooper he was a dpoy that was in the showtime lakers
Only player in history too avg. 20,10 &6!
React to "Larry Bird - I am Legend" or "Larry Bird - Bird is the Word." 2 vids of rare highlights showing how badly he made defenses look.
It didn't matter whether they were white and couldn't stop Bird. The best defensive black players of his era couldn't stop Larry either, even when they double teamed him. So much for that black and white bullshit.
Birds is equal opportunity
You gotta do young Shawn kemp or charlottes Larry Johnson … or one of the best players in the nba who was cheated of his career Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf..
😊
@ Bird wanted to play against the best ... and the black players were the best! But he cooked them all. Best defensive players on the planet
I so enjoyed this era of the NBA. This era now is too soft just my opinion.
GOAT Bird did everything better
