Have also commented multiple times over the years that Angelina is a 'Doctor for the Soul' . . . . and have shared how to find her on RUclips with many people I thought might appreciate or benefit from her gift. I cannot count the number of times I have reviewed most any of Angelina's performances to wipe away the stress/tension of a day that did not go 'according to plan' ! ! Actually she was 9 years, 2 months when she arranged and sang this production. And, yes, the band was with her during her performances on Norway's Got Talent in 2014, which she won at age 8. Every year since then she has gotten better, from unbelievable to out of this world. There is a lot to know about this fantastic vocal artist and I am sure one of her other fans will fill you in. 9 year 2 month old Angelina (video was not uploaded for nearly a year) created a great arrangement then gave a powerful, sassy performance of this 1956 Screamin Jay Hawkins classic.
Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman, who has chosen to keep his life private.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age after listening to Whitney Houston on RUclips. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet and married a Japanese man who passed away in 2019.
Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farsi, English, Japanese and Swedish.
Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where she received vocal training starting around age 4. Angelina plays the piano, violin, guitar and flute and also paints. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.
Why Angelina always performs barefoot
At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East.
Angelina at age 6 and 7 did record a few songs in a recording studio, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 6 or 7 year old.
Angelina is blessed with a deep voice with a beautiful rich tone and has always made her sound much older than her age. Many compare her voice to that of Amy Winehouse. Her voice is highly emotional which is very rare for a young girl and some people can’t accept that such a soulful voice can come from someone who has not had enough life experience. One vocal coach on RUclips recently said, “If you have a song and want to have more emotion added to that song, have Angelina sing it.”
At age 8, (please refer to replies by erik to a comment I made on JHTreacts video on 6/7/21 who provides proof Angelina had already turned 8) Angelina’s audition on NGT was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried.
The next performance on NGT was her cover of Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience.
In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them.
In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists.
Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on RUclips went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old.
On June 27, 2018 Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London.
Angelina performed on America’s Got Talent The Champions which aired in January 2020. She earned the Golden Buzzer for her performance of her unique arrangement of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. She sang her cover of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in the Finals but didn’t make it into the final 5 contestants. There is much debate over how and why Angelina was eliminated.
Angelina has covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, all of which are available on RUclips. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. In August 2020, her manager and uncle Michael Astar announced Angelina has signed with Republic Records as their highest priority new artist. On 11/6/20 her first single on Republic Records, Million Miles written by Angelina, was released. She dedicated it to anyone who has lost a loved one. Her 2nd single, 7th Heaven is a jazzy, upbeat, inspirational song and was also written by Angelina. Angelina’s family requested Republic Records to allow her to have as normal a childhood as possible. This is why Republic Records has not promoted her first two singles.
Angelina Jordan is a humble, compassionate young lady of very few words when she is not singing. She is on videos saying she wants to sing for the entire world and also that she wants to improve the quality of life for all the children on Earth. She has helped to raise millions of dollars for children’s charities and environmental causes.
Musicians who have worked with her have been quoted saying Angelina is among the most talented musicians they have worked with and she is the boss in the room when rehearsing. Remarkable for a girl of few words when not singing. For Angelina, it is all about the music and not her.
Personally, I find Angelina’s voice the most soulful and emotional voice of my lifetime. Angelina as a person, inspires me to be a better person and live longer to listen to her sing for as long as I can.

Hi Jon. Yes, you have stumbled onto possibly a major event in your reaction life. The normal reactor flow goes from this song to the live stage performance of Bohemian Rhapsody at AGT Champions 2. You'll find her to be 13 at that performance and due to copyright reasons, they don't actually show her getting the Golden Buzzer. She is widely recognized as a prodigy and child genius with the proof being nearly every song she has sung and arranged from age 6 to the present day. The good news for you is that she has a large, kind and fiercely loyal fan base who will tick your counter quite well. And speaking of that, I did enjoy your low key reaction very much and look forward to (hopefully) many more to come.

She had just turned 9 when she recorded this. Angelina picks all her own music to sing. She does her own arrangements. She is also not afraid to ask the musicians to play parts of the song the way she has heard it go in her head. For this and how polite she is when doing it it' like ruling with a nerf bat still her way is the way. The groups she plays with all call her 'The Boss'. And they all love her to death.

She performed her own rendition of the Bohemian Rhapsody on America's Got Talent at 13 yo and got kudos from the Queen band members.
Angelina now resides in Los Angeles and working on her album from RR. She will be ready to be introduced worldwide by RR as soon as she finishes her high school as her family has planned for her.

She was given complete control of her output and RR agreed not to promote her heavily until she’s completed her education. How old is she? As many have said, "she is an old soul" from the period of soul singing. Where is she from? She is from a place of authentic remembrance of all genres: jazz, blues, R&B, folk, rock, country, and classical. Always singing from a place beyond time to carry her audience to a shared transcendent moment. I love,love,love first time reactions to Angelina. How does she understand the emotion of how this song is to be sung? The singer has been done wrong by their lover and is mad as hell. And she relates that better than the the original artist or anyone else that I've heard do this song. You've only just begun to realize the gift that is Angelina Jordan.

Angelina wrote an incredibly emotional song called "Million Miles" in memory of her beloved grandfather who had just passed away (at that time). She was 13/14 years old. She recorded it later as her first single for her new label, Republic Records.
Do a reaction to the black and white live studio version. It is one of three companion videos. The others are the actual official Republic video music release and a lyrics version. I highly recommend doing a reaction to the lyrics version second. It is the same recording as the official version but has graphics done by her grandmother, a noteworthy Iranian artist. With these videos, she has produced a quite stunning beginning of her career with Republic. Also, the pianist in the live studio video is a very high up Republic executive.
Angelina commented that when she was in the studio doing the song she cried throughout the session. You can hear and see the pain she feels for her loss when you watch the live studio set. She said she wanted the song to be for anyone that had such a loss. With consideration to that background to her song, you will get as emotional as she was when she recorded it. She has a magical vocal power to draw you into this other dimension.
She has always put her soul and emotions into her works. She arranges most all her music, as she has been doing since she began performing over the past ten plus years. Keep up the good work.

From 6-9, she was the greatest child singer ever, by the time she hit 10, you can fairly drop the "child" part & compare her with any adult vocalist on the planet & she will hold her own. Vocal coaches have said by 10 she had reached Master Class level of vocals! By the time she hit 12, she was there with the best Superstar vocalists you can count on 1 hand & now at 16 she is the G.O.A.T for me. You've seen the "Baby" Angelina here, so before you go back to her other mind boggling performances as a child, I recommend you see where she is today, all grown up, standing 6'1" tall & looking like a superstar model. Great reaction to a vocal tour-de-force! You've done it now. You have fallen into the vortex of Angelina Jordan who arguably brings the most confident, versatile, seemingly effortless, and fearless vocal artistry found today (whether measured across artists, genres, or decades). You may think this an exaggeration but listen to a few more of her many performances (135+ covers plus original songs - all on YT) and you will see! She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra, and Gershwin. It is the rare singer that can, as Angelina has done, go from Queen to "Screamin" Jay Hawkins to Adele to Elvis to Whitney Houston to Michael Jackson to Etta James to James Brown to Amy Winehouse (and many others in between) and do them all justice!
If you want to hear music, listen to anyone. If you want to feel music, listen to Angelina. She will stagger you with her ability to find and bring forth the 'essence', the emotional message of nearly any song. You have far to go with Angelina. She is equally comfortable and equally able to impact us whether singing a cappella, accompanied only by a piano or guitar, in front of professional studio musicians or a 40 piece military band. With her immense vocal toolkit, arranging ability (yeah, that too, since about 8yo or so) and the work ethic to make what she does only 'seem' effortless, she will hopefully be touching hearts for a long time to come.

It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this!
"I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video).
You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). From the age of 6, Angelina read and sing English texts and understand what everything means! This is truly "girlpower"! She is amazing in many ways.
English is not her third language. Most probably she has learnt Norwegian and English almost in parallell. Her father has had his office in New Mexico since 2007. Angelina probably spent large periods of her early childhood in the US.

In addition to school she got also vocal training at the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program (I read, that this school said, they couldn't teach her more stuff because she has all learned what she could learn in this school ;-) ) - and btw. she plays also grand piano, violin, flute and guitar, make her arrangements herself, wrote a book, sew clothes for herself (partly with art from her grandma like in her first AGT performance and in her music video "Shield").

This was one great reaction to our wonder of music in general, and jazz and blues in particular. Thank you Jon! Angelina was "schooled" and inspired by the great classic stars, like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James and all the greats. In this she gave her very spesial tribute to Screaming J. Hawkins. At just 9 yo she delivered her written "whishes" for the take on the song to the orcestra leader, as you can see at the very start of the video. This girl picks her songs, and produce her take on everything she does. Since 6 - 7 yers "old". As one judge stated allready at her audition at the "Norwegian Talents" show; - "You ARE music". Angelina was still 7 years old at the time. Covering Billie Holiday. Blew us all away, as she has done ever since. And she turned 16 only 2 weeks ago.

I'm subscribing to follow your journey, and by the looks of things, you've already earned your wings. (Angelina refers to her fans as her *Angels* ) Everyone always says to start at the beginning with her 7 year old audition in Norway's Got Talent, and winning it all at 8 years old, but there is a video that was put out before that of when she was 6 years old, and her first time recording in a studio. Wonderful to see you gobsmacked, Angelina’s fans love that! This girl has garnered a big, worldwide following since she sang Gloomy Sunday at her audition for Norway’s Got Talent 2014. (Her audition was late the previous year.)
She was actually 9 years 2 months when this was recorded, but the family sat on this recording for a year. Some people think this was because the family needed to put protection in place, as all they wanted for her was school and a normal life. After NGT they already had the record companies offering contracts etc. And this recording would certainly increase the pressure! Her family gave her space to grow and all the tools she needed/wanted, without making her ‘special’. She is a loving, shy, but very gracious girl, and the best singer I have heard since Ella’s days. She absolutely loves Billie Holliday. Her catalogue of covers of the most iconic singers is ridiculous!! Somebody will give you Rusty’s list, I’m sure.
