they immediately replaced the stock plugs for go-to plugs, and whenever i need something its there. and i also use it alot in mastering, its just a very very very very good bundle
WAIT! You missed one super cool thing about FabFilter -> They engineer their plugins to be very light on CPU utilization! This is an amazing feat for a plugin that sounds so good.
I agree with everything you say about Fabfilter plugins... They are of the highest quality but I also think you neglected to mention what are for me a couple of their biggest selling points. Firstly their low resource usage...very low CPU tax considering the quality of sound. Secondly their licensing terms and lack of resource hogging copy protection ... No stupid ilock dongle or online authorisation procedures to worry about...instead a licence file in your name that can authorise the software for any computer you wish to run the software on... And with the combined license key you can authorise all your Fabfilter plug-ins in one very easy step. I love it when software companies make my life easy and for that reason Fabfilter are top of my list along with Reveal Sound Spire.
Great tools! They sound great, but for me the gui is massive! I don’t have a background in analog gear, so I’m not interested in those oldskool looking plugin’s that don’t tell me anything. The Fabfilter plugin’s tell be everything thanks to their intuitive designs!
Toneboosters is starting to recreate in some way the Fabfilter Plugins, but much cheaper. The tb Reverb v4 and the upcoming tb equalizer v4. Which will become great too. Tb Barricade v4, fantastic limiter. All their outside, compare these plugins and decide by your own. But none of them make you better mixer, but nice workflows to afford your skills.
I think plugins are a very personal choice and sometimes even the type of music you’re mixing can influence what plugins you’re using. Personally I dig the Slate Digital stuff more for the same reason you dislike it, I need the buttons because thats how it looks in the real analog world so it makes me understand more what I’m doing plus I think they’re doing a great job in modeling analog gear. However fab filter is pretty amazing and I use them every once in a while.
I started learning this not too long ago, and what I love about FF is how you learn by seeing what you do while you hear it. I probably average more than one FF plugin on every track... but I have learned from them how to use the knobs and dials on other plugins more comfortably and efficiently. Nothing for this novice has made me sound as good or learn as fast as the FF suite and workflow. But, I didn’t need to unlearn anything to start using them. That, I imagine, is an advantage.
Agreed!! FF is the best, but, for those of us without 10s or 100s of thousands to spend on analog gear, UAD is a must. It truly does do what they say, which is provide a sound that is so close to the analog originals that it's nearly indistinguishable. Between FF, UAD, and Airwindows, (maybe some Brainworx), I can't think of anything you can't do. Everything else is just kind of marketing snake oil. Oh! DMG also makes amazing stuff. Very comparable to FF, but not quite as refined. Their Essence is almost as amazing as Pro-MB. If you had to, you could do almost everything that that the rest of the Pro Bundle does with Pro-MB (Pro-R excluded).
TNice tutorials was super helpful, dude! I got the tutorial version of soft soft just to get a taste, and after figuring it out I decided to purchase the
I use fabs on every mix and eq is on every instrument when needed. It very very useful tool for any application and it ways sound good. I love eq when i cut out resonances in hihats, cymbals and rides plus cutting down boxy effect of kick somewhere around 400hz. it sounds amazing
You say the Fabfilter comp is all you need but don't use anything other than clean, so do you not do any character compressing outside of you Stam? I'm such a fan of analog style compressors because they do more than just compress even for voice over I like a distressor style thing going on, are they 100% the same as analog? NO but do they impart a cool flavour and saturation thing? Yep. I havent used Pro C 2 mind you so would love to know how the character settings sound especially bus, vocal and punch. I used to like Oxford Dynamics that was a cool digital compressor, but stock and Waves digital stuff never really liked except RVox which despite being based on the algorithms for c1 and l1 seem to be better than both for me.
What’s crazy about fabfilter is that they make what’s arguably the best version of everything they release. I mean yeah...certain guys will favor certain eqs and compressors but... What’s a better digital eq than pro-q? What’s just a better sounding, more precise, less cpu hungry, better featured, better looking digital eq? What’s a better digital compressor than pro-c? Or multiband than pro-mb (which is their processor that has the biggest step ahead imo)? There are still plenty of other plugins that I really like. Waves makes some good stuff...so does slate, klanghelm, etc. But fabfilter, on the whole, really has their finger on the pulse of digital processing. That’s the other thing that I appreciate from them. For the most part, they’re openly, unashamedly digital. They don’t bombard you with “analog this” or “analog that”. They just took the standard, digital eq and went BAM...here’s everything you ever wanted and it looks beautiful. If those guys ever make a DAW, I might be in trouble professionally. It’s gonna be hard to explain to certain guys I’ve worked with for 15+ years that they’ll be seeing fewer ptx files from me...
TNice tutorials was a fantastic beginner's guide, straight to the point, very clear. As a long-ti teacher I can tell you are quite apt at teacNice tutorialng!
I pushed the boat out and invest in Fab Filter over the last month or so. Where have these been all my life? The user interface is off the scale brilliant. Unlike other EQs for example, even ones I love, there is still the mental gymnastic of trying to match the sound from your speakers to the position on the knobs on screen. With FF, there is none of that, you can see exactly what is going on with the built in analyzer and super intuitive and stupidly easy to use controls. So yeg get pristine audio results fast and the sound quality is just sublime. I am a total fan boy of their amazing stuff now. I have 4 of their plugins now and adore them all.
I have demoed the proq2 and resason being i diddent do it earlier was "digital eq has no colour anyways" -wrong. Fabfilter has an amazing sound imo. Also their eq matching is amazing for learning "pro eq curves" on mixes. The cpu draw is so small that i dont probably now have to upgrade my computer...... Yes they are amazing
I love fabfilter plug ins but I also love some of my other plug ins that do things that I can't do with fab filter plug ins. Like my bx digital eq's, ssl duende stuff, and softube stuff. Fabfilter definitely has the edge in ergonomics and visual representation but for certain results in sound I reach for other vst's. However, I would recommend for someone just starting and looking for a comprehensive bundle of quality plug ins to pick up the everything bundle from fabfilter. Everything in that bundle is useful and is a bargain when compared to the full purchase price of the a la cart method.
I'm a total FF fan like you. The only things that I find wanting in them are Baxandall curves in the EQs with make a totally magical sound that is my secret weapon, so I will usually have Neutron or Ozone on the track or (most often) the Master buss just too have those Baxandall curves at the top and bottom. There is a free Baxandall 3 band EQ called basiQ, which is much more lightweight and seems to work almost as well. In fact, I love the Baxandall sound so much, that I broke my "no iLok" policy and got an iLok account just to get that free plugin. (Don't ask me why they put iLok on free plugin other than to just be snoops and have control. I really, really hate iLok.) The other thing I find wanting are the "Northern Lights" in the iZotope plugins that show where the signals on different tracks are masking. They save a lot of time, but I find myself just using the info they give me to set up my FF plugins. One thing that drives me nuts is that you have never used the "Free" band trigger feature in Pro-MB. You can set it up so that one part of the spectrum triggers an upward or downward compressor or expander on the band. You can also have this triggered by an external sidechain. So, you do things like have a snare hit cause a certain frequency range of a pad to jump up in volume and out to the sides for some really amazing dynamics in a mix. As much as you love FF, I'm surprised at the small amount of their potential that you use. I think if I had to pick one plugin and get rid of everything else, it would be Pro-MB. You can do almost everything with it.
Why? Because Fabfilter does everything with an insane interface that is consistent. Step 1. Spend a week learning how to use all the features. Step 2. Be addicted to the power of the best plugins on earth. I say earth in case there are plugins on other planets that are better. I can only speak for our planet. Once you become familiar with Fabfilter, you won't need any others. I mean why waste time learning others if you can do everything with what you have. Man, you make excellent videos. Why, you ask? Easy. Because you know what you are talking about, unlike too many others. There is a trend to make RUclips videos acting like you know something. The problem is that there is a multitude of people who are more interested in finding people who know as little as they do than actually learning something. I appreciate that you are one of the ones who definitely know very well about music production. And you are funny, my kind of humour. What is my kind of humour, you ask. Easy. It's humor that is funny. Thanks for teaching and cheering me up. There should be a place to get lists of channels that are worth watching. I read comments on terrible channels that say things like : "Thanks for your great content. I learn so much". What's wrong with humans. Are we that stupid? I guess if we know nothing then anything seems brilliant. So how can those stupid/ignorant people know if the stuff they Watch is good? RUclips needs ratings done by people who know about the subject. Man, I went off track, but that's me. Have fun.
It's weird that the companies I respect the most are the ones that make "digital-only" plugins: Fab Filter, iZotope and (my favorite) Tokyo Dawn Labs. incredible possibilities to those who master it. I am almost done with my first track, but there is so much more to discover and learn. TNice tutorials
This is very important. Pro-Q3 uses such a negligible amount of CPU that I have one on every channel. Fabfilter seems to be one of the only plugin manufacturers that care about CPU usage consistently throughout their product lineup.
Well yeah. I love FabFilter too and always use their plugins in my productions while mixing. The user interface is just unbeatable, the best I've ever seen in ANY plugin I've ever tried/seen around.....but as far as mastering is concerned, I'm afraid they're not as good as iZotope Ozone mastering suite, or maybe even Neutron for mixing as FabFilter Pro L2 versus Ozone Maximiser just lacks low end. And doesn't sound quite as good/loud and crisp as Ozone Maximiser. Also, the inter-plugin communication feature of iZotope is absolutely A-MA-ZING!!!! I mean, it's just so damn quick and easy being able to control multiple instances of an EQ for example right within one single window of say for example their Tonal Balance Control plugin or Ozone/Neutron. FabFilter still lacks that and having to switch over from one window/channel strip all the times is so annoying and such a workflow killer. FabFilter really needs to get up to today's technology and keep up with iZotope...
Compared to the snake oil bullshit Waves has; It's nothing and like he said, it'll pay you back really quickly. It's well worth the purchase, almost a steal.
Love the video, though it doesn't even begin to touch on the amazing stuff that you can do with MB especially. And the gate is not just a simple gate! It's one of the greatest expanders and has lots of uses that you don't get from many gates. (The ReaGate plugin is not too shabby, either. The ReaPlugs are all very surprising, though they're not in the FF league. They are better than the PT standard plugins, IMO.) The only thing I really miss in the FF plugins are the masking indicators that Neutron and Ozone have. I also love their Mix Tap plugin that you can put on a track so you can bring it into Neutron or Ozone and see where frequency masking is going on even if you don't have an iZotope plugin on the track. Then you can set up inverse EQ or dynamic compressor bands with inverse relationships so you can duck the bass and boost the kick, for instance, dynamically all in one window. I also really love their Baxandall EQ settings and their subtle saturation feature. I love them both, but if I had to pick one, well… I don't know. I think it would be…ugh! I can't decide. What I want is for iZotope and FabFilter to get married, but have the development team at Cockos run the company so that the combined plugins are as simple and mighty as REAPER. That would be heaven!!!!!!!
I would switch to Reaper for that! I agree, there is something lovely about Reaper plugins. They just make sense to a computer user and they have all the key features. I quite missed their plugins when I switched DAWs until I got hooked on FF. I’ve enjoyed Izotope’s plugins, from what I have experienced, but I can never seem to purchase one of their suites for the full experience.
Keep trucking!
You missed the saturn that I cant live without
they immediately replaced the stock plugs for go-to plugs, and whenever i need something its there. and i also use it alot in mastering, its just a very very very very good bundle
It would be a very sad existence without the presence of Fabfilter.

Damnit... Now I'm broke again....

wow. thank you for the amazing video
Fabfilter, what else? 😎 I wish they added a feature like on the soundradix surf EQ to the ProQ2.
Louis Jans They added it to Q3
Thanks it really saved me ♥️♥️♥️

Great Video! Im new on soft soft, and tNice tutorials tutorial really helped
Fabfilter is simply the best.
Just bought the pro bundle. worth every penny!
Thanks a lot bro very nice video
It's weird that the companies I respect the most are the ones that make "digital-only" plugins: Fab Filter, iZotope and (my favorite) Tokyo Dawn Labs. Btw, do Fab Filter plugins have upsampling/oversampling?
On the other side, I don't like Waves or UAD AT ALL, and I'm neutral when it comes to the rest of the companies out there.
Yes! Fabfilter has upsampling!
Nice.
Offtopic: anytime someone pronounces "Fab Filter" I hear "Fap Filter" . . .
Fabfilter is fantastic! What don't you like about the UAD? the investment? They have a lot of very good plugins. For a metal mixer, the Neve EQs (1083) would be very useful. Sound Radix has some great stuff... Surfer EQ, Auto Align, Pi, Drum Leveler. Plugin-Alliance has a bunch of useful goodies, and many of the GUIs fit this channel's requirement of no "Analog Looks" :-)
Saturn 2 when?
You didn't pay for the Unison MIDI chord pack, did you?
Many plugins out there - and yes Fabfilter is great for exactly as you demo. Also, perfect from a purely engineer perspective. Now make some guitar plugins such as a 1970s Michael Schenker Marshall amp!
Indeed
GOD!!!My broo
Hi White Sea,
What is the best way to pre master your track before mastering? Can you make a video about that?
Good question! I always try to adjust my work to the clients needs. So, if the mix sounds better with a compressor on the master bus, leave it turned on, let's not make a fuzz about it ;-). The only important thing for pre-mastering is that you make THE BEST MIX you've ever made ;-)
How. Soni get back the ones I accidentally x out
GlissEQ comes pretty close and for a fraction of the price.
I can't afforded soft soft. what alternative can I get?
work but so people are but they need to learn first.
I love FF. I use Q when I can't achieve things with other para eqs. C is great for pumping drums. DS is my go to de esser. Not only great for vocals and guitar, I just found out how great it is for cutting cymbal bleed from drums. But, I'm mad for saturation plugins, and I just can't get into Saturn. I don't know why but I just can't get it to sound good. MB is great for touching up your Tom bus. And L is useful for when I'm sick of L2.
You forgot the best one. Saturn!!!!
That time when he's using Pro Tools(saw a lot of recent videos on reaper and came to his old ones).
Can you use soft from soft soft to make profit?
incredible possibilities to those who master it. I am almost done with my first track, but there is so much more to discover and learn. TNice tutorials
The best
You're right !
I love Fabfilter too ! I recently started checking out Flux plugins, if you don't know them you just definitely check them out !
Could you do a video on how to remove the soft from a ? really appreciate if you'll notice tNice tutorials
Do you think Fabfilter needs to make their own dynamic or spectral eq or are these advances in technology not worth pursuing?
I can't live without pro q, pro c and saturn
Bro thats what I said haha im back right now sober lol
Very low cpu usage, for a modern plugin, and small size, which results in no lag when adding or removing the plugin.
They're definitely are not low in CPU usage but they are good.
How do you check cpu usage?
This is very important. Pro-Q3 uses such a negligible amount of CPU that I have one on every channel. Fabfilter seems to be one of the only plugin manufacturers that care about CPU usage consistently throughout their product lineup.

He loves it
Yeah but can't afford it :(
Great review just wish fab wasn’t soooooo expensive
Compared to the snake oil bullshit Waves has; It's nothing and like he said, it'll pay you back really quickly. It's well worth the purchase, almost a steal.
Buy one and the other plugins will be discounted.
Hmmm. I dunno. I just use the built-in Reaper plugins, which are pretty great.
Excellent
Exactly my opinion!

"If you have some IEEEEETER". It's jitter, with j as in jam, the whole thing is pronounced G - ter
i belive its actually pronounced iogging, with a soft j. apparently you just run for an extended period of time. it's supposed to be wild.
I had to watch tNice tutorials video literally 7 tis to understand how the channel rack, softs, and tracks work. I can see why people either love
let know
Yeah but it is so fucking expensive, my entire house is cheaper
SNAKE OIL? Y E S
Its Jitter like Gih-ter a soft j noise like Gih
where a have to work on.
FF plugins dont have harmonic distortion. I wish they add analog saturation to EQ and Compressor. Also Dynamic EQ section to proQ2
No, FF has) It is FabFilter Pro Saturn, and it sounds amazing to my mind. Sorry for my english
thats one of the things that is so good about them. they are ultra transparent. if you want color, something else is better :p
Yeah, you need to get Saturn. It is their harmonic saturation/distortion plugin, and it is my go to saturation plugin.
Doris your right get boring and you push it to the side, I rember one in Nice tutorialghschool that was easier
I understand you were given this but sounds to much like a commercial watching this.
Good video!
You should use Pro-DS on your voice in these videos. It's a good plugin!
I get it
Yes, but ReaEq and ReaComp rukes for free ! :)
Keep trucking!
