I also have a 738, so thanks for posting this. It's a same the shovel can't be tilted back a little to pick up a larger load, and so that part of the load doesn't spill as you bump along the grass. Thanks for posting!
I have the X730 with the bucket shovel and moved a big pile of dirt with one of these this past spring after the dirt had been in a pile for a year. It worked better then expected. You can rock the shovel upward a few inches to get and hold more dirt. Some does fall out especially if the ride is bumpy but its not bad. Its not a FEL but it did the job.
Hi Justin. Thanks for the positive comments. You have a good eye; this JD shovel is actually made by Superior Tech but I ordered it with my new tractor through my JD dealer and they installed it.
Yeah, a front end loader would be a lot better at this, but it's around $2000 more, and I understand you can't get one to fit the 2013 model (yet?). I'm sure this will be better at snow than mulch. Thanks for your comments!
Thanks for the video. I just ordered the same tractor shovel kit for my X585. Not a bad way to get a basic scoop functionality for medium duty yard and dirt work.
Thank you Jon. You are correct, it's definitely not a loader but it's a lot better than shoveling by hand. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine!
Not bad. I was thinking of this type of unit for my older John Deere but went with the Johnny Bucket Sr. After using the bucket I wish I would have spent a little more money and got a front end loader. It just depends on what you plan on using it for. If all you do is move mulch or some rock then this or the JB Sr. is fine. But if you want to dig a little more and be able to load stuff in a trailer or truck then the FEL would be better. Still any of them is a back saving device.
I could see that thing getting beat up bad. Neat if you are just moving loose mulch, but probably not so good with a pile of dirt dumped a week ago. (My opinion of the attachment, not the 700 series tractor.)
That's what I thought when we first moved in but all of the perennials like to spread and can't do that with the plastic or landscape cloth under them. The mulch turns into soil after a year and we do need to remove a little of it once in a while. We spread Preen in early spring to help prevent weed seed germination.
Thanks for sharing this video! Is this a superior tech kit? As for Ben c and Randallknife, they obviously doesn't know how useful these are. I moved and graded 10 yards of topsoil the other day with my 54 scoop in about 4 hours. This was with a 1978 JD 316 kohler. I'd love to go head to head with him and his wheelbarrow. People don't realize these hold 40 lbs of mulch or 350 lbs of stone/topsoil. I can also unload material from my trailer with my tractor. Beats a shovel and wheelbarrow anyday.
Makes one wonder will it get the job done better than a wheelbarrow, will i wish i bought a subcompact tractor instead, wont be mowing grass with this unit prices are terrible in 2022
Yes, a subcompact tractor can utilize an actual front end loader where this X738 cannot. I own a wheelbarrow and use to mulch with it for several years. Your back, knees and/or hips will tell when it's time to get some help with an attachment like this.
Had to show off a little there at the end with the dumping half a load at a time part, lol!

Nothing runs like a Deere Terry. Stay tuned for my review of my Weaver Conrail hopper.

thank you. gives a good idea of it's capabilities.
Love my 2013 z655 zero turn mower
Look into a bolt on tooth bar for light digging. They are easily custom made and make these even more useful.
nice tractor and plow/dump setup

Thanks for your comment and enjoy your big X728!

I think you could do more with the dump cart and a pitch fork
I will get my tractor you get a shovel and let's see who wins moving a pile of dirt
Dirt or mulch? And what tractor, do you have what he has? Or a full size loader.
I have the same thing he has
You decide weather dirt or mulch I will still win
Weld a longer piece to the nose as nd both sides for a larger load
Very cool love it
The biggest issue with these is not getting a full scoop with well over half the bucket not being filled.. if you aren't in a hurry...

Maybe removing the old mulch, weeds etc and then laying a weed barrier would have been ideal, before the new mulch?

Tracking the hell out of the lawn, I'm guessing you'd get more into a wheel barrow than into that bucket. Nice tractor though.
Ben c that's what I'm saying as well.
That's sorta neat but looks funky if it could curl back more it would be better

Epic
How much did that kit cost?
The blade, shovel, weights and brackets are all purchased separately but the total was about $2250.

its poorly designed. Prefer ctc loader.
