Gaynor! You have inspired me to look over some of my larger experiment paintings to see if I can cut them down. Your large papers cut down into small pieces of art are delightful! The guinea-fowl ceramics are beautifully made and I can see why you are inspired by them. Good luck with the Open Studios. I only wished I lived nearer so I could visit. Now I have watched your video (my weekly ritual!) I am inspired to have an arty day. 😊
I love guinea hens. I grew up in Jamaica and our neighbours had guineas (we call them "guinea chicks") and they had a coop about 4 feet from our house. It's so strange that people warn about how noisy they are, but I don't ever remember them making any noise at all! They are a great shape to draw, too. I totally love working on big paintings and cutting them up into smaller ones. It's amazing the bits you get that are so wonderful when cut out of a larger piece. I'm totally loving catching up on your videos! So glad I found you. You've changed my art life by helping me find my way closer to my own style and I'm so excited about that!
As usual, love all the work you'r doing. Enjoy having my breakfast with you. I challenge you to turn your "painted papers" over and cut out, from the back without seeing them, the size you wish to frame then work on them. I really think you will enjoy the challenge and be surprised by the results.
All looking great! The flowers in the garden, the Guineafowl cards all the work up at the open studio…… Its so interesting seeing things develop and grow into other things….. Continue to have fun there and thanks for sharing even tho you must be quite busy at the moment…. 👌
Wonderful Gaynor! So glad to hear the Open Studio is going well! And your bird work is amazing as it continues to evolve! Best wishes from across the pond. Be well! (way too many exclamation marks but it reflects my joy at knowing on Thursdays a new video appears)
How Lovely to see guinea fowl in your work, they are a popular image in South African art, from humble wood carvings to wire and beadwork by locals working in rural areas and townships to fine artists' work in galleries
@@gaynorpattle Hello Gaynor. My art has come to a grinding halt as i broke my wrist and had to have surgery so I'm trussed up right now Its going to be 100% recovery so Ive decided to do some "marks" using my left hand starting with getting some practice at the alphabet
Hello Giovanna - We have an Epsom general use printer - I have to hand feed with a little pressure to get the card through, otherwise the ends get chewed up and jam ! I am looking at buying something better - just need to sell more cards first inorder to justify the expense ! Enjoy your open studio and have a lovely week 🥰
Dear Gaynor, so true, I often end up working in gorgeous creative mess and have to stop and sort things back to their proper place. Thank you for sharing this as it makes me feel better about my studio ❤also I am so grateful to you for sharing your idea for painting sketchbook covers I love how it transforms my sketchbook and somehow inspires me to create something almost everyday. ? Would you share where you purchase the cards. I found some on Amazon but they were a bit pricey . Wishing you a very happy Christmas and a New Year filled with joy, health and inspiration 🎄🙏🌟✨🎄
Hello Marsha, so pleased to read that you have transformed your sketchbook...music to my ears ! I buy' Craft 'cards from Amazon, unfortunately, I'm noticing that everything has become more expensive. Our local art store has cheaper cardstock but the quality is poor ! Thank you for your lovely message and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, full of goodness and joy together with a creative New Year X
We are visited by a little pair of red legged Partridge every year they are so beautiful, absolutely love your Partridge drawings and gorgeous ceramic birds. The cards and paintings look great I hope you sell loads, have a fabulous week xx
Loved seeing your gorgeous garden Gaynor, as for using a viewfinder for cutting out bits, it’s my absolute favourite way to work, I call them mini masterpieces 😊 I usually put them on cards to give away, another thing I love to do is go mad with A3 sheet throw every at it, them fold sheet so I end up with 3x3 or 4x4 cut then up into bits then rearrange them into A3 again, I’ve found some amazing compositions in doing that, endless fun, hope all went well with the exhibition. Blessings from Australia
Hallo Ulrike Ich freue mich, dass Dir die kleinen Bilder gefallen. Der kleine Aufhänger in der Mitte ist nicht stark genug - ich denke, das hängt vom Hersteller ab! 😊
Lovely to see into the gallery this week! It looks fantastic 🤩Love how the birdy theme is developing. And the big-paper-cut-out-painting series is soo cool! I hope you're having more fun and busy days at SEOS
Ahhhh Thanks Lauren...those smalls are doing really well - Antique Market on the upper and the lower Pantiles today - busy busy busy - just on sofa with sore feet and cup of tea 😂❤❤❤
Yet another inspiring video Gaynor. Love the series of six, and the birds. The quirkiness, the block heels😂 Congratulations on a lovely display for the open studios. Very professional. Well done. Hope you continue to sell! 💐
@@gaynorpattle Yes, when I shared a studio as part of a group of mature artists when we left uni, we were in an incubation studio run by the university, guiding us towards being professional artists. This included opening the building for open studios. We could also apply to be included in Derbyshire Open Arts, which were open studios all over the county of Derbyshire. I know from experience how hard you have to work. Very valuable though.
The "one of a kind" colors on all the large pieces can B saved - used for collage, for borders on old frames, jars, glue down on rocks, canvases come in ALL varieties. Some folks can't afford to purchase ....so make what's available a "canvas" ?Also, drawing on the back side of the colorful practice sheets "a bird? whatever" then cut out, these become unique 1 of a kind...kinda art, with color schemes one would never have painted.Saving all pieces of all painted paper in categories of color, as reference for future shades and values in large file folders. There😊 is no one-way street to go down in the artsy map of lifestyle.
Where do you buy those frames for the smalls? They are perfect! Cutting the big sheet, after selecting a great composition with the mounts is brilliant!
Such a fun, inspring video - thanks for sharing! May I ask what type of matting and frames you are using? What words should I google as I live in US. thanky you!
I wish I knew !! I have had the paper stashed away for the longest time. A few years back I found a desk with large paper drawers and when I loaded it, I gaily binned the outer plastic with label ! It is around 300 gsm. The small frames are also in a stash - I keep a large shallow box under the sofa. I collect them up when I see something I like from small local shops, charity shops, The Range, B & M etc.
Hi Gaynor, do you prep your sketchbook, pages before glancing, to get texture, and if yes, with what? I use Art Creation sketchbook, very smudge, so no texture in my pages.🤔
NO Prep - just paint in layers most often ! I press into wet paint for texture and use sketchbooks that will take mixed media. If the pages are too thin they won't hold up to the layering treatment ! Let me know how you get on. 🥰
Love, love, love your paintings and sketches and process.
THANK YOU 🥰

I am in a pickle at the moment with some 'mediums' !! Thank you for a lovely comment - it will spur me on 🥰
The small paintings on paper are fabulous in frames! I have cut down paintings for cards but never thought of framing them. Thank you for sharing.
