We passed a truck with a Scout on the freeway, and my wife said it looked kinda weird. Yours, on the other hand, is looking GREAT! Congrats on a really good move.

Best I’ve seen. It would have been nice to show the tail lights. Those look cool at the end. It would be nice if you color match the truck to the flatbed. Not sure how vinyl will hold up on an off-road rig over time. Truck is the best overland I’ve ever seen. Flatbed even looks goo without the camper.
Thanks! The tail lights are pretty nice and sorry for not showing them more! We are hoping the vinyl holds up but realize that we might need to rewrap it at another time.

Very nice set up. I am very interested in how your motorcycle carrier is set up. I have been carrying a DR650 on the front of my camper setup and yours looks real sturdy. Keep up the great videos.👍
Hey Sean! It is super sturdy, thought we aren't currently using it on our trip to South America. The mount was bolted directly to the front of the frame in 2 locations so it is rock solid!

Gorgeous! Did you ever consider towing a trailer? I love these flat bed campers, but I’m concerned there won’t be enough space and flexibility for my family of 4, but obviously a trailer would limit where we could go, but we could always drop the trailer and just truck it on tighter trails.
We are pretty comfortable in our camper so we haven't felt the need for a trailer as well. We did haul a u-haul trailer across the US last week and it drove great with the truck/camper!

Bowen lists all of their prices on their website and they vary depending the options/bedsize you want. I believe our setups price tag was roughly $24K.
Hey, sorry for the WAY LATE question, but is your Ram a 6 1/4' bed or an 8' bed? I am just about to purchase a 2500 AEV. I want this exact Bowen setup for my FWC Hawk slide in. Thanks in advance for any info. GREAT looking rig and wonderful walkaround.
Hey sorry just seeing this comment - our Ram is an 8' bed model. If you have a Hawk then you can probably get away with the 6.5' bed. We love our Bowen bed and highly recommend them!
Very nice build. I just purchased a Scout Kenai for a 2021 Ram 3500 w/8’ bed. How easy to load/unload camper from the flatbed? Would you be willing to share the approximate price of the Bowen flatbed, boxes, etc. with install? Thank you and good camping…
Congratulations on the Kenai! We hope you love it as much as we love ours. Unloading and loading the Scout on the flatbed is simple and 1 extra step compared to a regular truck bed. Bowen has all of their prices on their website, bowencustoms.com so I would recommend checking that out.
Great setup! How is the driving with the “higher fixed” truck camper? Do you have in experience with driving “pop up” truck camper to compare?
Thanks! We have no issues with the solid wall camper walls. We haven't driven a "pop up" truck camper so we don't have much to compare it to. We do love not having to 'set up' camp though when we park.
Love this! How much water storage do you have? Any tanks integral to the flat bed?
Thanks! We currently have 4 Dometic Go Water Jugs, which we store 2 in the camper and 2 in the flatbed.
We did mount a 15gal gray tank under the flatbed but no additional fresh water tanks.

Thank you! It came with an 8ft bed and we basically maintained the same length with the custom bed.
Sweet rig! Whats the weight of the custom bed?
Unfortunately we didn't get a before/after weight for the rig so we aren't sure. It is heaver than the stock bed but probably only by a couple hundred pounds.

How much does a bed like that cost??? It looks like a fancy modified utility box.
Currently they're starting at $27k for this particular bed model. Ours was the prototype, so quite a bit cheaper.
We are having a Bowen bed built for our Ford F-250 and FWC Granby. We are getting the "canopy" included in our set-up. Wondering how you set-up that storage space and what you keep in there?
Hey Nate - congrats on going with the Bowen bed, we are extremely happy with ours! If you want to shoot us a message on instagram (@themortells) we can share some pictures of our storage set up in the canopy area! Currently we built out a shelf to hold our inflatable paddle boards & other gear up top and down below we have 2 Brompton folding bikes, a Ooni Pizza grill and some other items stored.
What did your custom bed run from them cost wise if you don’t mind me asking for a set up similar to this?
@@hurt1704 they've said in other comments that theirs is the prototype so I think they're don't want to say their cost since it's not representative of what someone else would pay for the production version of their bed. Checking bowencustoms.com as of 1/24/2024, I'm estimating the production version of their custom bed would be around $30k. So with they're truck, camper, and custom bed their definitely got a six figure rig right here.
I'm a little confused... I thought 'flat-bed' campers were the full width of the truck. This looks like a regular, slide-in camper with a custom side build or something like that. Still narrow on the lower end. What am I missing? Hahahah.. cheers.
You a correct - the camper isn't a flatbed model, unfortunately Scout doesn't have a flatbed option, so we had a flatbed with storage boxes built to utilize the wasted space from the stock truck bed.

I’d be interested to know if you’re not using your mount camper jacks to lift your camper while you’re traveling, if you get a flat tire what Jack are you using to lift the vehicle & change the tire? Thanks 🖖
We don't plan on taking our camper jacks sine we hope to never take our camper off. If there comes a time when we need to take them off we hope there are some nice scout owners around that might lend us theirs!
We bought a Safe Jack to lift the vehicle if needed for tire changes. We have yet to use it but it seems like it will be pretty great!

How has the front moto mount held up offroad? I'm thinking of one for Baja but the amount of washboard gnar is making me question it. What brand?
It has held up great and have had no issues off roading with it. It is a custom made mount so doesn't have a specific brand.

All the pricing is on bowencustoms.com. These are pretty modular so you can build them out how you want. Ours is called the 'camper bed'.

Hey Nathanael, it is actually 2 Chama Chairs that are sitting right next to each other, so it isn't actually a 2p chair.
What kind of mileage are you seeing with this set up?

Where’s the flatbed? You keep saying (flatbed) but I don’t think it means what you think it means. You’ve got a custom utility bed and it’s pretty sweet. But it’s NOT a flatbed
It is kind of a hybrid between the two I guess. The side storage boxes are modular and could be removed if you really wanted to.
Great product 100% but completely overpriced and huge wait time.
We are that it is a great product! As far as pricing goes it is inline with other beds in the industry and the fact they do have a long lead time shows the prices are pretty good 🤷♂️
