    I wonder if something like a $20k series would work? If at any point someone thinks a car is worth more than $20k, the car can be bought from the owner (and owner has to sell it) Could be 10-15-20-25k or whatever. Closer you get to that budget level, the higher the risk someone buys it out. But then I guess you would have competition buy out teams at the top.

    That's why I order everything from Drift HQ, got free t-shirt on my last order too! I am hoping to go to drift week one day in a 400Z. Sadly, I don't want to be stuck wrenching on this old Nissan for drift week at drift week and rather have a new platform and engine to abuse instead. I prefer more driving time over wrenching time. For now just getting seat time, eating k-bbq and drinking coronas at chill drift events all day with friends in my Silvia S13 and playing around with different setups so I understand what I like and how to do it once I go 400z. Having a couple of Coronas just before going out to drift really smoothes out my transitions and makes me smoother i.e worry less about crashing haha.

    12:20 This is the most important thing to me. There's no in between right now other than Klutch Kickers. I think they have changed the game, FD is unattainable for most drifters but Klutch Kickers is something that can be done.

  • @TheCSHeckler
    @TheCSHeckler 3 года назад +1

    Another point drawn from this conversation is age and longevity as a driver or support role. One guy says, 'I want to keep on drifting, his life's built around it. The top FD drivers, mechanics, organisers are no longer 'youth's'. The sport is promoted to young people however the participants are aging out of that category. So, acceptance and orientation to a middle aged community with parallel opportunities for drift drivers etc to use their skills in complementary race settings. Maybe Autocross and drift events could be held together. There needs to be an idea of progression from drifting to a broader driving experiences.

    As someone that started in the lower levels of short track racing at 9 yrs old, I think it might be time for drifting to explore different classes for cars like grassroots oval tracks have. I feel like that's not fully in the spirit of drifting, but that's the best way to keep cost under control. Also more seat time availability would help the scene, we could run 25 races a year in a Legend car for the same pit fee cost of like 5-10 iTrack events or similar.

    • @offroadspecialties7383

      Speaking of Legends cars and their low cost to operate. I recently bought an old legends car to play with as a kart track drift car. There's a lot of potential in repurposing these and dwarf cars to drifting. That would actually be as very easy way to create a cheap spec class.

    I fully agree. Drifting does not need a formal competition atmosphere. It's so much more fun to play follow the leader with your friends than it is to be judged by someone in a formal setting. If you look a rock crawling, the vast majority of people who race get out of the hobby within a few years. It's the guys who do it recreationally, for fun, with their close group of friends, without following any silly rule books and build stuff without boundaries who have progressed the sport the most and maintained a love for the sport without burning out.
    I have lost countless friends to Ultra 4. It's not so much an achievement as it is a path to burn out and financial ruin.

    • @LoneStarDrift
      @LoneStarDrift  3 года назад

      What happened specifically to Ultra 4? People just get wrapped up in the racing and spend all their time and money doing it? The cool thing about Ultra 4 is it pushed the sport really far and really fast, I was into off roading in the 90s, and I still have a rock crawler and my Humvee, and it is soooo different now it is almost unrecognizable!

    • @offroadspecialties7383
      @offroadspecialties7383 3 года назад +3

      @@LoneStarDrift they build a $150k car that needs constant preventative maintenance. They get tied up in contracts and obligations to sponsors or affiliates. They travel all over on a race schedule. They can no longer risk their comp car for trail riding. Comp car is not easy to see out of. Is not conducive to trail riding and ultimately becomes U4 only. So they stop rec wheeling. Comps become exhausting. Ultimately bitterness sets in. Winners are typically natural born talent with a shop owner at the wheel who fundamentally understands all aspects of the car, physics and the business.
      Long story short go have fun and stop measuring dicks with LLC's. Put that money into infrastructure.

    Drifting needs a "low" power, low displacement, small wheel competition series, and if I'm being really picky no spools or welded diffs. One fuel sponsor, one tire sponsor.

    • @kingkilburn

      there are comps with tire rules, which limit the power by the fact that u cant put it down anyway, not sure what displacement has to do with anything really? why no welded diffs? why limit the tire sponsors? fuel? this is confusing

    • @kingkilburn
      @kingkilburn 3 года назад

      @@JRcrib Why is drifting sideways drag cars at the top levels and why do you prefer it that way? Limiting power, displacement, fuel, and tires brings down costs while raising the level of competitive driving. Spools completely change vehicle dynamics and resulting suspension setups. Helical and clutch type diffs see available for just about every platform, and when they are trying to deal with clutch kicks with 1000hp they shouldn't have any problems standing up to the abuse.

    Given how fielding said it cost him 10-15k to do drift week. I can definitely say As far as competing in kk series right now is definitely cheaper than or almost equal to that cost but you get to drive with world class drivers with 100k+ 1k hp monsters while you have a 5k 250hp 350z. You'll never get a chance to see how you stack up against them unless you're in fd which is unattainable for most drifters and could win 10k which definitely covers the cost per round. So I'd say it's definitely the new thing right nowm

    Well, what do you know, an informed and considered discussion about money and participation in sport, the Arts or whatever creative lesuire activity you're into. No money in the beginning unless you already have it or you've conned some people into subsidising a You Tube channel. Big money or opportunities at the top. Expensive sport drifting. Other types of motorsport usually feature family race teams where it's an intergenerational thing. Racing is part of family life. A diversion for a moment. A musician has to buy all of their own gear, usually pay to organise shows where a return is unlikely cause the band pays for the venue, security, sound system, advertising, recording, which people then expect to consume for free. Slim chances of ever getting a payday, even worse for painters and writers. The things we do?
