I wish i had thought of Aliexpress for the 8Nm power supply, instead i paid a little over £50 for a poxy power supply. Too much money imo! And it wasn't a Fanatec licensed one... Too late now, oh well! I always forget Aliexpress has some useful good priced bits and bobs... 🤷‍♂️😖

I've had the DD pro for about 6 months with the V2 pedals. I've never had any of the issues you've had or others have experienced but I do agree the shaft clamp should be a free upgrade as well as the qR2 upgrade. It's been a known issue for years. I love my fanatec gear and thankfully I've never had an issue. Great, informative, fair review as always Tidgney! 👍👍

Just to clarify, the big star shape plastic you mention at 3:00 is to connect to the desk clamp to give you a larger handle for tightening up the clamp 🗜️

Yeah you can never tighten it enough without it! And you can screw it down pretty damn hard without it breaking, imo it's much better than for instance the G29 clamping system

Excellent review! I've had mine for about 5 months (upgraded from G29) with about 400 hours clocked into it so far. I did have a disconnect once but never happened again. Was lucky to have ordered it before the shortage. I also got it with the 8nm upgrade and it does great. I do want to get the load cell soon as it is the last upgrade to have everything I want from it :)

Got my DD Pro with 8nm boost in March of 2022 just a few weeks after GT7 launched and I love it! Have to add that it is my first wheel so I have nothing else to compare it to. I found the LED rev lights distracting so I just put a strip of black electrical tape over that LOL. As far as button mapping I like R2 to look back.. easiest for me to reach. L2 I use to toggle radar, fuel etc. I like L3 as E brake... I never need E brake except for a grid start race so seems a good spot. Also good to have a few different profiles for FFB and sensitivity / rotation so I can easily switch depending on car / track combo. Power button never an issue for me but I have mine hard mounted to my rig so I'm never pushing or pulling the wheel base. I got a bit of blind luck with timing of ordering my wheel. I ordered it March 17th 2022 and it was delivered March 26th.. I know it got pretty rough to get them after that.

Sorry to be rude but can I ask how much did your order cost off Fanatec in total for the bundle ?
I looked into getting a 8Nm bundle including a load cell pedal kit and it said the total would be 822 euros. That doesn’t include vat and shipping charges either as far as I’m aware so I opted to buy a bundle off eBay for £900 last week. My order arrived next day as well which was an obvious bonus.

@@Calsonic8899 that's not rude. I bought exactly what was unboxed in this vid.. the DD Pro with 8nm boost and the base pedals that came with that bundle. That's actually very interesting to hear this in retrospect, especially now that I've moved away from the DD PRO and its wheel, after 2 years of rather intensive use. I never had the shaft come loose as an issue but this made me realise how different people use their wheels, I tend to push on the shaft rather than pull and I drive in a similar position. The thing to keep in mind is, in contrast to wheelbases like the DD1 and DD2, the CSL DD and DD PRO have a USB-C type connection inside the shaft. This make upgrading from a QR1 to a QR2 system relatively easy in comparison but as mentioned here, it doesn't come as standard for the CSL products (DD PRO included). More crucially however, I would assume this adds to the defect of it being able to slip away.
I liked the proprietary wheel's multitude of buttons, which made it very versatile over different sims but the plastic on the 9 and 3 o-clock positions (+- 1h) started to wear down quite significantly; so much so that I had to wear gloves toward the end of my use of it as plastic bits started to peel off from it whilst I was using it... I also ended up moving away from the QR1 Lite for the metal version (rather confusingly named "QR1"... the baseline name is a premium option...) because the former started to make cracking sounds under load, though I did use the 8nm kit which arguably wasn't in its favour...

I just switched from the G29 into the fanatec ecosystem. However I decided to save a ton of money and bought my setup piece meal and went for the CSL elite wheelbase. I've put probably twelve hours on it and have been very happy with it. I know the DD has a bit more fine feel of the feedback but I'm finding the belt drive to be buttery smooth and gives me plenty of feel for the road under me.

Great job. I previously owned the CSL DD Pro wheel and pedal set and it is very good. But the downsides you noted are definitely problems, particularly the collar and shaft. I ended up selling mine and upgrading to the Logitech G Pro DD wheel and pedals. The Logitech pedals are very comparable to the Fanatec CSL Elite pedals with load cell, but the Logitech rim and base are both significant upgrades over the Fanatec rim and base. The Logitech rim is much higher end, far less plastic, plus the QR and shafter are rock solid. No play issues. The FFB from the Logitech base is stronger and more refined, plus it has Trueforce support which is a total game changer as to immersion and feel.

Make sure the clamp is tight, but not crazy over tight can damage. I think there's a torque spec?? Not sure we did have the pull on wheel, slips up the shaft and wheel disconnected error twice I think but since last time my dad re-tightened the clamp it has stayed connected for months now lots of hours driving 👍

I follow a streamer in USA where I'm from and he "upgraded" to the RS V2 wheel with the dd pro base and he loves that wheel streams many hours each week so it gets heavy use. I think it has larger magnetic shifters. We have the McLaren wheel and it has a couple things i don't like but has been very good. I also highly recommend the upgraded pedal set! Way better construction. I don't recall which series they are but they are very good and the load cell kit is insane stiff!

Thanks for the review, I've had one for about 6 months(around 250 hours use) and had no hardware issues thankfully. I updated the drivers straight out of the box(as per the instructions), maybe this helps ? Its my first ever wheel, I feel the pedals let it down especially the brake when it gets worn in and softens. Also, yes the gear paddles are too small, turning through a hairpin bend its very difficult to upshift. Also I find the grips shed little bits of rubber and get slippy when my hands get sweaty. I find myself squeezing the wheel too tightly, might just be me. I use this with PSVR2, and combined its a great plug & play experience, substantial upgrade to pancake mode on a controller, and no messing around with set ups like PC VR rigs !

Regarding the delay, then i was ordering a DD PRO the 8th of january and was told i could expect 5 business days delay. Which was correct since i got information about my shipment from DHL on the 15th. So it was in my hands the 18th on jaunary, since DHL had delay aswell due to a snowstorm. So i'd say the feared long delay seems to be almost fixed at this point.
I might add i don't have a problem with the deskclamp either, maybe you need to thighten it some more? But i agree with the shifters are too small, i have expirenced a few times that i can't shift gear when i make a sharp turn.

I was set on buying the 8nm DD pro, but the avalanche of complaints regarding FANATEC support and the delivery issues made me rethink the decision, so I ended up investing a bit more in the Logitech Pro wheel + pedals. I'm not completely sure if that was a good decision, because the Logitech wheel itself is of great quality, but that is the only one you get. There are no alternative wheels available as of now. However, the 11nm base is very nice and more than welcome to play GT7, and the load cell pedals are a better option to the base FANATEC. That could be upgraded, yes, but with the 8nm option plus the pedal upgrade, I would not be that far from the Logitech price. The complaints around FANATEC where the ultimate reason behind my decision.

Oddly Tidge, the first 3 things you don't like about the wheel, a guy like myself brings to the garage and modifies lol. I'd prolly be using something crazy like a Vibrant clamp for the collet, bore holes and press brass or alum sleeves into the arms of the desk clamp, and add hood pins to hook it on tot he desk, and then I'd add an aviation button cover to the On/Off. But I'm 99% more ready to fix/work on things than other people. And I love tools.

I've had the GT DD Pro since release, amazing move up from belt drive to DD, I've also replaced the standard pedals after tweeking it with loads of different bits and pieces, with the V3 inverted pedal set. I use mine mounted to a racing sim rig too, so dont have the desk mount problems, the steering wheel release problems have been fixed with the QR2's.
The main point of the GT DD Pro.. is the GT bit on PS5.. nail in the head.
It's a lot of money for some, but for Fanatec, its very entry level and people often spend another digit on the total. You buy into the eco system, a bit like Apple..
The main thing to take note of is the lead times for ordering and customer service being over loaded, more on the internets.

I ordered the DD Pro after my G923 failed and it was well worth the money and the 2 month wait for delivery. I play GT7 in VR and the directly mapped Traction Control, Fuel map and Brake balance sticks really help. Agree that the paddle shifters could be bigger and better quality. I'm using the desk mount and it hasn't shifted at all since I installed it. Also no issues with the shaft coming out, but I have had a couple of instances where the gear shift stopped working. Had to remove and re-install the wheel for it to come back. I sprayed a bit of contact cleaner on to the wheel contacts and it hasn't happened since. Have also left it switched on over night and had no burning/melting problems, but I do only use the 5nm power supply. I wonder if the higher power supply is causing those issues? Certainly makes me want to stick with the 5nm. It's good enough after coming from the G923.

I bought the 8nm bundle since it was the only option available at that time. At the beginning I only used the 5nm power supply as I found the 8nm too powerful as I was so used to the G29. After a few months though I was using the 8nm power supply and now couldn't go back to the 5nm. I never used the table clamp I used a stand. I never had any of the issues mentioned in this video. The only thing that happens is mine sometimes goes very heavy and I just restart the DD pro. This happens if I keep restarting in the game, in time trial in GT7.

Good review, although for the button just be aware its there 😂 and although the clamp should work for me its a very temporary measure, a Direct Drive wheel or even CSL Elite should be hard mounted, theres just too much force in a wheel base like that for a desk clamp, plus the fact you ideally require a rig to hard mount the pedals anyway for the same reasons.
Think im looking to get the DD+ now with the QR2 and btw i think the reaons for those being delayed is because Sony are dragging their heels, theres no official wheel settings page on GT yet and i suspect this upcoming update 25th will include that!

    Hello Tidgney,
First of all what a great and honest review. I have this wheel myself and love it.
A point of this review I want to give my view on is the mounting bolts not delivered by the set. More brands don’t deliver mounting bolts. I guess the reason is that these brands don’t know on what product you are going to mount this base to. For example someone will mount it to a selfmade wooden simrig, the other a simlab, a GT omega etc etc. All have a different thickness baseplate. So if Fanatec would deliver mounting bolts for a 10 mm thick base plate and the user mounting it on a 5 mm thick base plate, the bolts could ruin the base. So this way the user comes responsible for using the correct length of bolts.
A completely agree on the shaft problem and it should be Fanatec responsibility to solve it with providing buyers with a free upgrade to the QR2. From the information I got is that the QR2 is a more narrow fitting than the original shaft.
Still I want to point out that in this video I can see your clamp position isn’t correct, it’s about 90 degrees off it’s proper position.
In the FQA on the Fanatec website there is a link to the video where you can see how the shaft and clamp should be fitted.
    Kind regards.

I have a DD Pro 8 Nm with a load cell, and after 600 hours of driving I can say that it was a huge leap from the G29. But it's not ideal, the steering wheel is "toy", the paddles are too short, they are absurd, and the brake pedal starts making strange sounds, as if it was starting to loosen, I tightened it, but it didn't help much. Many people also write about Fanatec's poor support, which in my opinion greatly discredits this company, because it is not a problem to sell equipment, what is important is to take care of users and make them come back for further purchases.

Regarding the shaft disconnect issue, replacing the u-shape clamp with a two-piece collar clamp like you showed is a very good idea, but regardless of which clamp you use, it's extremely important to align the slots on the wheel base with the slots in the clamp. At 21:02 it looks like you are 90 degrees off, which may be why you keep getting disconnects. I replaced my original clamp with a two-piece collar, lined up the slots, tightened it down and have not had a disconnect in months since.

i had the exact same problem with the 'shaft', for some reason it seems they don't tighten it enough when it leaves the factory. The other issue you will have at some point in the future is the RJ12 connector port that is used to connect the base to the pedals will come loose, those 4 ports on the back are incredibly fragile with next to nothing holding them in place. And considering it quite a widely reported fault I'm surprised the new clubsport dd+ seems to have the same port design, maybe they are secured in a better way but from the photos it looks identical
I will say though that when this happened to me their customer service was really good, had my wheel base picked up, fixed and back in my possession in under 2 weeks.

I think it's the csl elite set my dad got has metal plate they are really good only one issue with the gas pedal where it wears where the pedal mounts to tge shaft, aluminum on aluminum wears and squeaks, grinds grooves into the metal. Dad shaved and polished the worn parts and put extra gun oil for lubricant and squeak fixed. Seen others with this issue too but that's been the only issue. 1) Table clamp - didn't really have problems myself with it, probably depends on the material and thickness of the table... but moved to a rig soon after anyway
    2) wheel shaft - been using the wheel for almost 2 years now, quite a wheel puller myself but only had it disconnect once and that was self inflicted (hade a real rage quit moment in one of the races). Wrote to support (wheels weren't functioning properly) - they noticed the gap on the shaft on the photos, sent a video on how to fix it and it was totally fine since - so, props up for the customer support
    3) default wheel is fine, but other fanatec wheels are literally in another league by their feel.
The main downsides in my opinion are:
    1) It's really more expensive than it really should be. Premium for PS compatibility is too high. 8nm adapter - more power is great, but it's main downside is that it is unfairly expensive. I understand Fanatec was making back money on the kits sold with 5nm power supplies. it's unfair, but they have effectively monopoly...
    2) pedals - I think they are holding back the whole combo, tbh even after 1.5 years with load cell I still can't get used to them. I'm still looking at other pedal sets hoping they would be better, but the problem is - you can't really get the wheelbase without the lower tier pedals, so you end up paying twice (same story with wheel)...
Overall, still happy, don't think I'll be upgrading to 12/15nm one - not worth the price difference and having to change all qr attachments on wheels

Tidge, bit of advice: do get into the custom wheel settings, you can really get some great feels, completely customized / personalized, good settings will make it easier to faster catch drifts etc.
And one thing I'll say about the material of the gt dd wheel, it's grippy, but it's gonna get worn out QUICKLY, rubber will wear down to the plastic underneath (just take a good look at the wheel from TheKie25, totally worn out where the hands go)!!! Especially with high FFB settings, gloves will not make a difference here unfortunately. (I'd love it if you'd notice this in a "a year after-review" where you've used the wheel a lot for a year, cause you'll definitely gonna get some wear within a year if you play on average an hour a day.

One very great "hack" I found for anyone who has this with the default plastic twist hub connection (and not upgraded to QR1 or 2). The wheel will make noise when turning and even "slip" a bit on occasion. If you put a strip of tape in the groove on the wheel shaft it will help this A LOT. I used 2 strips of electrical tape. The groove I am talking about is shown in the video at 16:36 What this does is takes up some of that space so helps eliminate noise and wheel slipping.

If you only do console, I'm sure you will never go beyond two wheels, 8nm and maybe their pedal sets. For that, buying QR2 does not make any sense. Best option would be to buy aftermarket QR1 from someone doing the upgrade. The money you saved should be spend on the better clamp found on etsy.

I do like this set up. 8Nm, loadcell and alu connecter between wheel and shaft. The plastic one creaked like a galleon in a storm, didn’t trust that.
But the wheel? No. All plasticky with cheap clicking sounds, buttons and knobs feel like they’ll break down at some point (they haven’t yet), and the crowded layout puts the most important buttons in an awkward place. R/L 2/3 are nice though. The rubber rim wears off to the bone in time. Not a lot of time, really. With a better wheel I’d have been all happy.

I bought a Logitech G Pro and consigned the DD Pro to my partner's house. Ecosystem aside (or lack of), the Logi is far superior, in almost every way. FFB feel, strength (not really an issue for me, actually), QR (the Fanatec is terrible!), pedal adjustablilty, and the biggest of all, TrueForce. And the desk clamp! Yup, the Fanatec is abysmal, the Logitech is rock solid.
TF really is a huge factor here. I've dialled mine down to 15%, because at 100% it feels awful, but lower settings are superb. I had the opportunity to spend a couple of days on the Fanatec just recently, and its like chalk and cheese.
    Good review, Tidge!

Looking at getting the Logitech G Pro myself and great to see the perspective of somebody who’s owned both. I know the price is a bit higher but no other wheel offers true force technology and I think Logitech are generally really reliable

Unfortunately for PS5 users, there's not much of a choice if you want a DD system other than Logitech. To me, Logitech is a little more than I want to spend at the moment. Especially considering that it doesn't come with pedals and you have to buy them separately which puts it at an even higher price point. With that being said. I ordered the Fanatec GT DD Pro on 03/08. Hopefully, I won't have any delays. Will be my first racing wheel. I also ordered the Playseat trophy to go along with it. I'm looking forward to giving this a go.

Hopefully it'll get there soon. And do enjoy using the wheel, it'll be great fun and I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

So frustrating they don't sell the wheel and rim together without the pedals. Or the wheelbase alone AND allow you to buy the wheel separately if you wish (to use on GT7). As far as I can see, the wheel rim is not available from Fanatec as a standalone part.

Tidge, I'm sorry, but your wheel settings grabs went by too quickly for me. The in-game settings are great, tho (I was surprised at the in-game torque was 2, and from what I could see the wheel FFB strength was 10).
    Can you post them, please?

I was a die hard fan of fanatec since csl elite, since i start playing with 16y/old but i am deceive and disapointed about them because how they treat me a client with plus 4k spent with them and 8years client between wheels bases pedals.... and for me it is a stop fanatec they should learn a lesson of the market...
Bad service equals terminatation and change operator for better one...
