Such a unique test for a snow test in the UK. Having the app controlling the car, still blows my mind, even though cars have done it for a while now. But its cool at this pricepoint :D

Great informative and natural video. Can you defrost while its plugged in, so it uses mains electric rather than the battery for defrosting. My car is always parked on our drive and we get a lot of heavy frosts.

Like the video but there are a few things that should be mentioned. First, the car should have been cleared of snow, a Highway Code violation. Second, regen in slippery conditions can be dangerous as only the front (in fwd) cars are ‘braked’ which can cause loss of traction.
However, I don’t want to take away from the fact that yours is the only video I could find about the new zs in snow. So thank you for that. 👍
Hi Jimmy, thanks for watching. There is no legal requirement to remove snow that could dislodge whilst travelling, so no legal violation here, even though it is advisable. However for any other type of journey, we would have, and would advise others to do so if it could obstruct our vision, or others following behind. In regards to the regen, you are more likely to lose traction when all four wheels brake - at least you have some level of control if the rear wheels are still moving. Nine times out of ten all four wheels braking will likely cause you to skid and loose control, unless you have skidpan experience. Even ABS isn't a saving grace on icy roads (in our experience) *A
Hi. Thanks for replying. Rule 229 states that snow that can fall onto the path of other road users should be removed. Also there is need to clear windows and mirrors. It might just be editing but your rear window still had snow on it in one of the shots.
I would strongly disagree in terms of regen. Front wheels slowing when rear wheels are unbraked increases the risk of skidding. There are articles on the net about that.
Whenever we put an opinion up it’s our own view, from our own experience. Interesting! Where do you stand on descent control?

How does the phone connect to the phone?? Is it Bluetooth or wifi? We have a separate garage so just wondering what the app ranage to the phone would be for using these features eg at hone or at the mall and wantibg to preheat/cool before getting into the car
When we had ours, we were on the M6 near Lancaster and one of techs had control at MG HQ - I’d presume 3G 4G once bonded
Good, practical review. Other cars, such as Zoe, have had control by app for years but nice to see it in a cheap but reasonably sized car such as the ZS.
The first ZS was supposed to have it, but yes the tech has been around for years, thank you Jay
I wondering that eco is best for slippery conditions, you want gentle torque through the drive wheels, especially when pulling away. I would tend to keep it on regen 2 rather than 3, just in case. It would be difficult to recover if the car skidded on ice because of regen, you would have to quickly turn down.
It’s an interesting quandary, I suppose the best way to find out is try all eventualities, your strategy does make a lot of sense, thank you Robert

Hearing that the rear heated windscreen does not clear the lower section of the screen due to this is where the ariel has been installed is this something you have noticed?

Grat informative video. Does having the cabin preheat on also preheat the battery pack? if it pre-heats the battery you should in theory get a much better range in winter. Thanks

No normal frontscreen. You heat only with warm air.
Yes, mind you it clears rather fast.

If you pre heat for 10 min on a cold day. What temp do you get inside the car in that short time?
It got to 18c in a matter of minutes, the top temp apologies we didn’t get, but as you tell it was a rather pleading temp by the time it shot off, thank you Peter
@@PlanetautoUK I get my car in may. So after Winter time. But I’m used to Volvo on call. That take at least 30 min. But I guess the heat from electric comes right away. So 10 min is enough.

Interesting, but its a shame there's not a heated windscreen option. That would only have taken 20 seconds or so. I have had 6 cars which have had heated windscreens and its such a good idea and I always spec it when buying new if its an option.
I am seriously considering this car and will be taking one out for a test drive soon. I have an MG dealer local to me and have sat in and had a fiddle around with one of these and an MG5 estate. I prefer the estate style, but the ZS EV has a longer range and updated ICE including this app.

It’s chock full of features though, and this was a rather extreme case, compounded by Ben stuffing snow on the windscreen, thank you Monty, have you looked at the MG5 Long Range?
@@PlanetautoUK Yes I sat in the MG5 long range and the top of the range ZS EV a week ago when I decided to investigate these cars at the local dealer. I was very impressed with both of them and plan to test drive both with my wife soon. Interestingly I just discovered that insurance for EV’s tends to be higher (probably due to the emerging market of EV’s). Also the MG5 is in a much higher insurance group than the ZS EV which doesn’t really make sense. I remember many years ago going from a saloon to a Renault scenic, both 5 seat cars-and the insurance was very much more for the scenic! I did ask why and was told it was because it was a “people carrier”….. Damn insurance never goes down does it? Do you have any experiences getting insurance for EV’S?
Ah good to hear, insurance is a strange one, who knows the criteria, one of the worlds mysteries, and no we don’t have any experience, manufacturers sort ours out.

I just ordered a ZS EV Trophy long range. Very impressed with the drive and feel of the car.
Also took out an MG5 but I honestly (much to my surprise) thought that the ZS EV was better.

Thanks for the great videos guys. Do you know if a number of people can have the app paired with the car at the same time. Let say you have two users of the car. Can both have the app installed on her/his phone and pair with the car so that either could pre-heat the car and set charging times etc.
Hi Kieran - so glad you liked it! To answer your question, yes, it is possible to have more than one phone with the iSmart using the same user credentials paired with the car. So, if you have the app on your phone set up with your user account, you could also have the same user account details set up on another phone. This way the car is still only binding with one user account. If you are driving the car your iSmart app can be logged in, if the other user were then to take the car for the day, you could log out of the app, not unbind, and they could log in. This would be the simplest way for couples/families to use the app. Only one phone can be logged in at any one time, but logging in/out is easier than bind/unbind.

I guess if you have finger print access on your phone, you can just memorize your pin and go through it just with the fingerprint. At least this is what I do on apps with pin code :)
What's the real world mileage. Eg daily driving to shops work etc not motorway.
If you watch the road trip you’ll see, when on B roads, at 0c we were around 5 per 2 used on average, most of the time higher Mark, thank you

I am really looking forward to this functionality when I get my ID.3. I feel I waste so much time in the morning in my ICE car (no pun intended) clearing the screen and then it takes a while for the car to warm up inside, I am looking forward to being able to set this 10-15 mins before I leave in the app in the house and jump in a warm car with a clear screen, which is more efficient as well pre-heating, plus if you are plugged in then you are not using any range. It is also a lot better than leaving a petrol or diesel car idling for 10-15 mins.

@@PlanetautoUK Can you also chill the car remotely through the app, that would be great in the summer? Will these remote functions require a specific subscription fee long term, or would it be enough if the car is parked within a wifi network?
@@erik.dahlberg yes it'll heat/cool the car to the temp you set in the app, no subscription fee required as the car had its own sim card fitted so is in contact with MGs servers for over the air updates as well as the app controls!
