    Rule of thumb. Recharge at half tank. Chargers can be blocked or faulty. Main rapid charge apps electric highway, polar, podpoint and zap map. Range drops faster as battery gets low. Also hilly areas uses 4x the energy, range will drop significantly. Town driving use max regen, motorways zero regen. Dont use ac or heat. Heat pump cars reduce energy use significantly when at correct temp. Maybe test an Ioniq28 to compare.

    • @PlanetautoUK
      @PlanetautoUK  5 лет назад

      Great points there, and all ones we covered, except we didn’t get to go over any excessively hilly bits! Like your idea about a compare and contrast with the Ioniq28 👍 *Annabelle

    Coming across a Chargepoint that doesn’t work is very frustrating. So definitely charge early in the journey so that if an issue happens you still have some range to deal with it. Charge when you can, not when you have to. Also if you get a bit low, slowing down by 5mph saves MUCH more than switching off heaters, lights, aircon etc. No need to live uncomfortably. 5 mph only adds a couple of minutes to the ETA but save shed loads of juice.

    • @PlanetautoUK
      @PlanetautoUK  5 лет назад

      That’s what we did! 👍 Tucking in behind the 40-footers helped as we diverted to our 3rd stop. *Annabelle

      Planet Auto spotted you doing it. 👍🏻👍🏻. 'Hypermileing' is the in vogue term. And it’s a very easy way to keep up the speed yet keep down the consumption. And who cares about stone chips on the bonnet anyway!
      I’m really enjoying your videos. It brings back all the things/feelings/discoveries from my early days. Take a note of when Range Anxiety disappears (less than 3 weeks, to be replaced with Charger Anxiety - will it work, will it be available, am I on the network). But you are going to love it. And the car looks pretty good as well.

  • @chrispenn715
    @chrispenn715 5 лет назад +3

    Interesting video - thanks. Frustrating that all the different charges require separate apps - they should all be able to just take credit card payments like normal fuel stations, especially as network coverage is variable in some places..... The MG seems a very good overall package at an excellent price - that charge socket needs a rethink tho - very fiddly. Maybe the cover should drop down rather than up - and how about a built in light so you can see what you're doing?

    • @PlanetautoUK
      @PlanetautoUK  5 лет назад +2

      Thank you, it is a learning curve - however relatively easy and done if the chargers are child’s play too, and illuminated charge point and interesting idea about the door moving down rather than up *ben

    Great pt.2 review guys , muffin situation was hilarious . However , 1st stop charger failure caused a little concern albeit me not a newbie to EV's . Got my test drive tomorrow morning and must say , I am quite excited still . IMHO this is a GVFM vehicle , and anyone considering making the change should add to their checklist (James and Kate watch this space !) lol .

    • @PlanetautoUK
      @PlanetautoUK  5 лет назад +1

      Thank George. We found that even with the charger failure, there was no anxiety as we knew we could carry on up to Cherwell and charge there. It was nice and easy to do as well. It’s GVFM in our opinion too, and we really, really want one. 👍 *Annabelle

    By the way, I wonder just how long the ZS would travel for on 'zero' miles? I can't think of an easy way to test that apart from driving round and round a service stations car park on zero until it stops and pushing it to a charger?!

    Interesting to see RW usage and results. The duff charger and will we won't we get to the next available one scenario is probably one of the public's biggest concerns at present. Do you know what you would have done if it turned out that you didn't reach the next one? Would it have been a case of getting recovered to the nearest charging point, or are the breakdown patrols carrying any sort of portable generation with them these days? Are these EVs towable or do they need a flatbed?

    • @PlanetautoUK
      @PlanetautoUK  5 лет назад +1

    What are the running costs against diesel/petrol ??? How much will home charge cost . Seems you get paranoid about the range when you only have around 150 miles per fill up ??? Great review . If you push it on a bit does it cause havok with millage ????

    • @PlanetautoUK
      @PlanetautoUK  5 лет назад +1

      Just over £15 for just under 400m 2 being free charges, the diesel equivalent, no option. In a Xsara 2.0l I used to get around 400m around £40 the petrol I’d expect over £50 with out doing this specific journey in the petrol there’s no exact answer. I was relying on a full charge, due to our calculations for least charges, not getting a full one meant we had to rethink this, your also always aware that the charger may not be 100%, when there are more at each location like fuel pumps at a garage your covered if one’s not working. I can’t comment on Over 70, however I expect it to use around 1.5 to a mile. *ben - Part 3 coming in 2 days

    • @momckinley
      @momckinley 5 лет назад +2

      If you can charge overnight at home on low rate it is dramatically cheaper than petrol or diesel. My previous petrol Toyota Avensis averaged 36 mpg while my Nissan Leaf 30kw has been giving me up to 360 mpg equivalent for the first two years on Economy 7 overnight rates. That is 360 miles for the price of a gallon of petrol! This has reduced to around 320 mpg equivalent because of recent electricity price rises. My driving is mostly short journeys around town and I get around 130 miles range when fully charged, but you can do longer journeys if you plan your charging carefully. Over 60 mph the range drops considerably.

    Thanks for the videos a very useful watch for someone pondering the which EV to get problem.
    I am on the verge of putting down my cash for an MG. I test drove a bmwi3 at the weekend. Very innovative and high build quality and is a serious second hand contender for a retired couple. BUT its an expensive package if you like the bells and whistles which are standard on the MG and also range is a problem on the i3 unless you get one with the ICE motor version.
    Did you guys get the 7KW fast charger thrown in with the MG when you bought your MG?
    There is an offer for the first 1000 customers that includes that but when enquiring at the dealer it seems they no very little about that deal.

    • @PlanetautoUK
      @PlanetautoUK  5 лет назад +1

      Ours was a press car, preorders stand at well over 1k now meaning the free charger limit had been reached. The price for the MG is phenomenal value, there are fb lots of great EV models out there, it just depends on what you want to spend. *ben

    feel it is wrong for the charger to have limits think may be fast charger does not like or want to control the speed reduction to get the battery to full since that could take as long to do as it did for you get get to the level
    so the charger gives up and limits time so can charge and earn more money for only fast high speed charging

    Looks like a great value EV but I'm sorry low charge getting to the charge point to find it doesn't work. OK you've found one about 8 miles away but you have to go 8 miles out of your way and anoter 8 miles back. Never been to a petrol station where none of the pumps work. So it's pot luck when getting to a charger that it's working. Sorry but until there are enough charging stations with more than one or two chargers or I can afford an EV with a 300 mile plus range I will hang back getting an EV.
