Had a field trip in 6th grade where we took a boat out to the Delaware Bay and the Rio Grande and Ocean Drive bridges opened up for us. That first Starlight boat that crossed I think was the same one we were on
Joey, 1st I must say... love those curls! I lived in Wildwood for 2 summers in the 70s but worked in the Rio Grande my 2nd summer. I was caught in the bride raising many times on my way to work! It seemed to take forever but now I love it! Good to see it again! Thanks!
I love going over that bridge to cape may all the time and hoping for the bridge to open. I’m Going to the wildwoods this Sunday and I’m excited! Thanks
Seeing that Rio Grande Bridge was our first time seeing something like that. We still remember it because it was cool and hasn't happened to us since then though
That's the one on Ocean Drive? If it is , I've seen it open plenty of times, as when we vacationed in Wildwood, we stayed on my dad's boat, docked at Mill Creek Marina. There's 2 fisheries there, one of them is Bumblebee Tuna.
That miserable eyesore, is a mess, The concrete base of the toll booth is crumbling, the railings are mostly rust and have eroded away to nearly nothing in some places. If you have to used that route, it's a major issue to get caught by the bridge opening and wait in lines of cars that can be up to a mile long. When the bridge finally opens, the cars ever so slowly trickle through the toll. If you have to use that bridge, allow a lot of extra time, because if you don't, it will surely make you late on many occasions. I don't know why these dinosaurs still exist. The island of the Wildwood's have two of these annoying, monuments to obsolescence. There are now more cars than ever coming to this island at peak season. Not only do you need a new bridge on Ocean Drive between the Crest and Cape May, you also need two lanes in both directions.
No matter what there would need to be a draw bridge there. There isnt enough straight away on the Crest side to build a bridge height needed for what your asking for. I de believe they will rehab this bridge this off-season so things will get better on it. (It's the last one out of all the Ocean Drive bridges to get an overhaul)
@@WildwoodVideoArchive I thought there was a plan to move the road bed closer to the ocean side to get a larger space to allow for a high bridge similar to the ones over the Cape May Canal. Even if they can't make it that high, if they could increase it some amount there would be less times they would need to raise it. I'm sure with the marshes they won't do it, but the ideal location is to turn the road to cross the water between town and Two Mile on the Wildwood side and come in on the other side of the fishing canal on the Cape May side so none of the fishing vessels in those areas would need to go under the bridge to get out to sea.
rode my bicycle across that bridge many times as a youth. wonder what the deal is nowadays as to if they charge bicycles to cross. I've seen it change back and forth a few times. edit- keep the great content coming, love your videos. always nice to see the shore.
which boat? The big boat, the smaller boat, the pontoon boat or the fishing boat? All the boats and boating into the sea with all the other boats. It was a great day for boats
Been on that bridge several times during that process, just amazing. Thanks Joey!
Glad you enjoyed it

Glad you enjoyed it and got to see it open!!!
It depends on when you travel. I go to work that way at about 3:30 and get caught about twice a week during summer.

Nice. We had to wait for the Rio Grande one on our way down to Wildwood in around 2001. It was cool to see.
It is an old school thing that still brings amazement to everyone. They are dying breeds

There are a few on Ocean Drive. This is the one that's the Southern one. by Bumblebee
Can't tell you how many times I got stuck on that bridge with my bike. And then trying to outrun the cars after it came down!
haha yes. I know your pain!
Well, you just answered my own q: "Are bikes allowed on this bridge"?
Couldn't find any answer :P!

I used to do a lot of fishing there by that bridge snows and lunds
The big fishing companies are right there! It seems like they get more and more boats
@@WildwoodVideoArchive yeah some have sank some were just old they update boats ever 10 15 years but like i said its a great spot to fish
Spending the summer n NW, saw the bridge go up last week and I was wondering if the boaters were charged for the bridge rising Service?
I don't believe so as we always pay a fare to cross it
Nice 👍
Thank you! Cheers!

I actually rode by bike over it the other day. It's a nice work out! And thank you so much! I am glad you enjoy my videos!
@@WildwoodVideoArchive did they charge you the toll to cross on your bicycle?
They don't charge bikes.
I remember the toll being 10 cents on that bridge ..
The good ole days!
Hope it doesn't take long to fix that bridge.
It could be up to five months, depending on if they can source the parts for the motor
@@WildwoodVideoArchive As long as it's done properly.
It's great to see another video I thought you were back in New York.
I am always back and fourth. This was recorded a week ago (see the long hair)

All that toll money they make but yet the metal railings are rotted out and bridge looks unsafe to drive on???🤔
They are fixing it as we speak
I would much rather be under that bridge in a boat than on top of it in a hot car. The bridge view would be amazing from that angle...just sayin'
so very very true
Lil Dickey?
