I went to Wildwood probably from 1972 to the early to mid 90s. I haven't been there in so long that I had no idea Hunt's pier was gone. That really makes me sad. I had some of the best times of my childhood on that pier. I remember Keystone Kops when I was little and Golden Nugget. The Log Flume etc.
Thanks for the memories of Hunts pier. My sister and I always liked Hunts pier the best compared to the other amusement piers in Wildwood. It was the newest of all the piers and had the newest rides. You could tell it was newer since it had a concrete base compared to the wood of the older piers. One of my best memories of Hunts was it got me over my fear of riding wooden roller coasters. I had a bad experience ridding my first wood coaster and avoided them since. My sister asked me if I would ride the Flyer with her and I agreed. I actually enjoyed that first ride on the Flyer and it got me to ride other wooden coasters later. As an adult I have ridden many wooden coasters across the country. You mentioned the old mine ride was relocated to Kneoble’s Amusement park in Pennsylvania. The mine ride at Hunts was one of our favorite rides on Hunts pier. I have ridden the relocated mine ride that was redone as a coal mine. Kneoble’s is near old coal mines in PA so it made sense to re do it that way. The only real change was it is now a completely inside dark ride to simulate being in a coal mine. I t is a good first roller coaster type ride since there are some small drops along the ride inside the mine. However it is relatively mild so the whole family can enjoy riding it. We also liked the old Jungle boat ride that Hunts had that was similar to what Disney had just shorter a ride but did have the motion type animals and the boat captain giving narration during the ride. Their other variety of rides made them the best pier on the boardwalk.
The Flyer was my first coaster! I loved the Mine Train ride, too. Now, do you remember the larger wooden coaster that was on the street side, and the Tunnel of Love that went under it with the boats that looked like Ducks??
Is that the rollercoaster that ran along schellinger ave? Then yes!! It inevitably sat next to dracula's castle and I wonder if the castle used the tunnel of love track for their dungeon ride?
@@barbarapetrzilka8381 It took me years to get up the courage to ride that roller coaster. It became my favorite coaster to ride and I was disappointed when that area became redeveloped and we lost that big coaster and grand merry go round that faced the boardwalk and had such nice horses on it. When it was shut down the horses were collector items and I assume worth more to sell than operate seasonally. There are other parks that have started to add smaller wooden coasters that would be comfortable as a first coaster for families to ride.

@@fluffyotter1601 I don’t know if they were saved but most wooden coasters if not moved to a new park are usually just destroyed. I would say that today there are several amusement parks that have very similar wooden roller coasters. In the Philadelphia, Pa area I would say the coaster at Dutch Wonderland would ride like the one at Hunts and although I have not ridden it the coster called the Wacky Taxie at Sesime Street Park also would qualify. There are other parks that have started to add smaller wooden coasters that would be comfortable as a first coaster for families to ride.
Hunts pier was the best. Wildwood is still the best
I have a pix of me I think on Hunt's pier on a kiddie coaster in 1972ish. I want to know more about it.
I would post it on a forum if anyone can suggest one.
Maybe someone scrolling through the comments can help!!!
I worked on funtown pier seaside park it was the best time of my life I worked the looping coaster it was so cool watching the waves under the pier and looking over the railing God it's so sad that it's gone
I remember the tide going under steel pier, seaside heights, hunts pier... it added a whole other element of cool to the experience.
@@Mikey_Heels I have a good one.....Seaside Hts, NJ....Casino Pier....1974......One of the very first Swing Rides was imported from Germany. (GA over in Jackson, NJ got one too). It not only went up high, the Swings went up and over the Ocean on the South Side of the Pier. LiKe the "Jet Star" (haha - please laugh). I remember it all like it was yesterday.
