We started coming down in the v summer of 65. I was 10. Hunt's Pier was the best. Sportland Pier had the Hell Hole, but the Golden Nugget was my favorite.

Those pics look like the pics of my grandparents and great grandparents taken back in the 1920s. Look for faded pencil writings on the back. Also count the stars on that US flag. I don't think it has 50 stars on it. Google it. It might be WW1 vintage. You have some history there that is priceless for your family.

Wasn't Dr. Blood's House of Horrors near the Hell Hole Ride? I remember driving the go cart around Sportland Pier and getting scared from the monster's head outside the ride. I'm not sure but I think there was a carousel in the front of the pier. My grandfather was taking me to the restroom before the rides opened up. And I started crying when I saw the canvas cover covering the carousel. As a child I was afraid of almost everything. Of course a few years ago I was diagnosed with mild autism. This was in the 80's. My parents always referred to Sportland Pier as the pier that burnt down.

A few blocks south of the TP bridge we used to.play on old WW 2 landing ducks on Sunday when the junkyard was closed. Two nice Gill brothers from Wissinoming drowned nearby in the 1960's. Kid from St Barts ( Jimmy Hardin ) saved a third brother from drowning. Would be nice in warm weather if they could unlock gates by Dietz & Watson and river area by Rahwn Street.

I think I was at that show. I went to all the Hardcore shows in Philly. Almost weekly I went to City Gardens to catch a Randy Now show. Do you remember blue Horizons? They had shows once in a blue.

I too stayed in a boarding house as a kid. It was on Magnolia (Mrs. Kliznicks boarding house. One toilet/sink per floor. Had to share with other families. Showers were outside. Three or four beds in each room. The best front porches with rocking chairs. Would sit out there and watch everyone coming off the boards at night. And of course ate dinner at Groffs every night since it was only two blocks away.

loved that rode it every year in 70s was a right of passage for us kids to ride and not puke lol actually saw a guy run on floor as we stuck to wall must of been a worker was so awesome

$50 million dollars for restoration is a lot when the decline is amazing. Do you ever get harassed by the police on your one wheel? I bought my daughter a smaller one wheel Walmart special 2 years ago when she was 15 and she rode it till it fell apart. Only like maybe 6 mph wheel was only like 3" Diameter but just got her a one wheel electric unicycle 16" tire almost $2k 17th birthday was costly but the police harass her where ever she goes and a few times on the other one here in coastal South Carolina. Wonder if it's like that in my old stomping grounds of Pennsylvania?
