Hello mate. I have got a problem of Break leakage on my ALTO K10 Car which is an Indian make. I used to top up every other day after driving around 30-50km. Further I can't see any visibility of a leakage overall. But I have a doubt that it leaks through a washer or something as far as I learnt from previous experiences. What could be the issue? Can u explain it. Anyways I plan to investigate this problem with a mechanic very soon.. But I need your explanation causing this issue... Thank you!
First the biggest problem is the tendency to play with the wheel cylinders pistons by squeezing on the piston pucks when you remove the cylinder from the package with your fingers. Yes its neat to feel the pistons move but you could be doing more harm than good. This action creates the major source of leaks in new wheel cylinders. When the wheel cylinders are compressed with no fluid inside the seal cups have a tendency to disslodge or be displaced from their bore seat especially the smaller cup into the larger bore opening. Once the sealing cup has been displaced it allows fluid to flow around the seal cup and escape thru the clearance between the piston and the cylinder wall. The brake actually works to a degree but the cylinder leaks when the excess fluid finally fills the exterior moisture shield cup. What is the cure? The cure is simple, Don't play with the cylinders when you open the box. But as a precaution and since most of you are somewhat handy with tools and understand mechanical things here are some pointers. When you are replacing wheel cylinders one of the first things you should do after opening the box is to pop the cylinder moisture covers, pop the piston pucks and check the seal cup seats remembering or drawing a diagram of how they were disassembled.. While you have the cylinder opened up lube the seals and side walls with a very light coat of brake fluid and reassemble the parts in the order they were installed. Hint, as you are transitioning from one bore side to the opposite side fill the cavity with a small amount of brake fluid so there will be no air void between the bores. This also speeds up the bleeding process by removing the majority of trapped air. Finish reassembly and clean off all excess or spilled fluid. If you keep the bleeder valve closed no fluid will run out the nippple port and you then can assemble the line to the cylinder and install the shoes. After installing the shoes and the drums you can now go thru the normal brake bleeding process.
Do i have to drain all my remaining fluid before removing cylinder? Because i just added a fluid without knowing the cause til i find this guide. Thanks mate.
You can use a hose clamp to keep the rest of the fluid from coming out while changing it. You'll still need to add brake fluid to the system and bleed the air out of it.
Thanks, i found the part. I was a bit confused as my search was for a Nissan altima, and your video popped. At the end, you do mention it was a Neon. Thanks
I changed my rear breaks and drum. And in the process for some reason one side of the rubber boot on the cylinder fell out with a spring attachment to it. I attempted to put it back together and when all said and done. The break pedal is spongy???

@@manuelester7420 ..faster?..... brake line wrench = flare nut wrench....right? It wouldn't be faster....a flare nut wrench compared to a open-end wrench, just helps prevent messing up the 6 sides of the hex nut....right? But not "faster".....
Your video was very informative. Thanks for sharing! I have a 1993 ford ranger with a leak. Do I need to change both sides or just one?
I would change both sides knock it out
Looking to buy a 1998 Honda Civic Ex, but the Honda has a brake leak fluid from the rear of the brakes? How much will it cost me to get it fix?
If it got drum brakes the cylinder and brakes I would do ur looking at like $300 for brakes and drum job and cylinder is $15 labor $160 with bleeding I would do both side cylinders once brakes are off
Thank you!
Check where it’s leaking from and repair it brakes r serious on cars safty first
Thank you!!!
You're welcome!
Very nice good work❤
Thank you
Oh thank you for reply i am very happy to see your reply
i have 2005 Toyota Prius, a coolant pipe leaking and no coolant in hybrid coolant now
@@UFCvlogs check for coolant leaks should be easy to find simple car to work on
Dear send me video link for hybrid coolant
continue this repare please?
Nice video thanks man
Welcome
This cylinder ok to Honda fit gp1
No I doubt that
First the biggest problem is the tendency to play with the wheel cylinders pistons by squeezing on the piston pucks when you remove the cylinder from the package with your fingers.
U don’t have to drain it that would add air just replace it as it drips then bleed it
@@RBTheMechanic thanks
You can use a hose clamp to keep the rest of the fluid from coming out while changing it. You'll still need to add brake fluid to the system and bleed the air out of it.
Crystals clear, tq bro
Hi, can I use this same type of cylinder on a nissan altima 20001?
I doubt it might be diffrent part number
Thanks, i found the part. I was a bit confused as my search was for a Nissan altima, and your video popped. At the end, you do mention it was a Neon. Thanks
@@bibster1962 yeah dodge neon
Please show me how to blead after this
I have bleeding video on caliper same process with drum on
I changed my rear breaks and drum. And in the process for some reason one side of the rubber boot on the cylinder fell out with a spring attachment to it. I attempted to put it back together and when all said and done. The break pedal is spongy???
Laramie Watson you have air in the system bleed the brake line it should go back to normal
Thank you
What if its leaking and I hear the brakes grind when I push them is that the cylinder?
Well u got to open it up to see what it is it can be leaking and ur brake cylinder leaking or somthing broke inside

My car has a similar issue. Do you mind me asking what the estimate was for the total cost if you can remember? Just curious.
Around $400 brakes drum and cylinder to do it 100% solid but if u do it urself total parts would be around $90
@@RBTheMechanic I appreciate it man!
Hey, is replacing the cylinder the only option when it leaks?
Yup if the cylinder is leaking it’s only option cylinder is like $20 the repair kit wouldn’t be good idea
@@RBTheMechanic appreciate it
Thank you boss

IF THEY HAD THE CASH !!!!
Sometimes we’re put in situations where we must drive an unsafe car not by choice. I truly understand the mechanic must follow protocol and maybe have her sign something for his protection . But here’s an opportunity for the mechanic to show a bit of humanity without taking the burden upon him/ or herself.
First of all the R B
you’re not obligated to express any kind of empathy towards this lady
but to leave it open as if to say,,, NOT GETTING THESE

I see all the 🙏 🙏 and thank god’s in the comments, but how many of us miss the real story here.
Maybe he could be looking out for someone changing their brakes prematurely and told he’d save them for her . There are a number of things that could help people besides just praying for them.

Do aftermarket wheel cylinders fail often? I've tried a few and I've had some leak or after a year get seized
I never had that issue I use aftermarket lasts for years and years I still have person comming to me from 2014 and no leak
@Penny Neiman caliper or cylinder u should not have any leaks tho
@Penny Neiman not sure why they would say that I never had that type of issue it could be that it has oil sitting there and when boot was pushed it squared out but anyways it shouldn’t leak clean it up and then keep an eye on it once ur sure it’s not leaking then u should be good!!
Thank
If I got this right, I need a bucket, a 10mm wrench, brake cleaner, and the new cylinders.
Yup
The 10 mm just spinning off

Give it a bit heat or twist the cylinder
