  • In this hiking video we visit the most popular trail in Asturias: the Xanas gorge trail.
The first part of the hike takes us to the gorge, with a landscape very similar to the one we saw hiking the Cares River Gorge trail. In fact, some people refer to this route as the little Cares. The second part of the trail goes into a forest area through which the Xanas stream flows. The second part reminds me lf the tipical trails we can enjoy in wet areas of Asturias like Taramundi.
Concerning the trail in itself, it is linear, starts in the Xanas Picnic Area (Santo Adriano) and ends in the village called Pedroveya (Quirós). The hike covers a distance of 4 km (one way) and has an elevation gain of around 400 m. This is a hike I recommend everybody, specially people starting to practice hiking although I woul like to add some thing Which are important for you to know:
This trail is not suitable for people suffering from vertigo. This is specially true in the first two kilometers of the trail since they pass through a gorge. The fact that you can observe a big drop at some points where the trail narrows down may affect people.
It is possible to do the hike with little ones, although I strongly encourage you to hold their hands during the first two kilometers to avoid possible accidents.
As a final comment about the trail, it is better to start it early in the morning, specially in the summer months. This will ensure that you can find a place to park
the car, since this is a very popular trail and tends to be crowded (specially during the summer months).
Hope you enjoy the video and, if this is the case, please, do not forget to subscribe, like and share.
Happy hiking and see you in the mountains.
