The figuring in that top is stunning. I absolutely love how you do your GGBO videos. I binged the entire Doctor Who series a month ago. The storytelling while watching this build just makes me so excited when I see you have posted. Great job.
Thanks Lisa. Good to hear that the Doctor Who guitar is still getting some views! I really have heaps of fun doing the videos, otherwise it would be too much of a chore. Glad that people enjoy them so much!
@@jonathanmorrison4349 and when Feanor asked Galadrial for a strand of hair, she refused. Only half way through this... and loving that top. Perfect "volcanic" look. Definitely a look into Sammath Naur! What i really like about this build is the thought that has gone into it, all the "minor" details that fit with the theme, the 7 rings on the 6 string headstock, the neck inlays, etc. Always fun to contrast with Ben Crowe's "make it up as you go along approach"! Looking forward to the rest of this series... it is going to be a stunningly beautiful instrument. I'm sure all of us watching would just LOVE to have this in their hands when it's finished.
PS as another afterthought, was that the fabled Radian 4 flute bit in the table router? Looks to have given a beautifully clean route with no burning at all!
Sorry, one final observation (for now!) this series is an object lesson in "show, not tell" Just all the interesting details without commentary. Noticed the tape inside the neck pocket template trick to make the neck pocket just a tiny bit smaller than the neck heel.
Thanks for all you comments Tim. It’s cool when people notice all the fine details in the guitar and videos. It is a radian router bit, but the 2 flute (pretty sure, I’ll check when I’m in the shed next!). It’s definitely worth paying extra for quality router bits.
Great build. Can I please ask what tool are you using at 10:58 for lining up the neck and body? Also, I love how the veneer adds sharp lines … well done!
Thanks! It’s a construction lazer level from Bunnings. I use it to double check once I’ve lined the neck up using the straight edges on the side of the neck.
@@adairguitars Thanks. It’s an excellent way of doing this. I’ve been wondering about better ways of lining things up, so it looks like a trip to Bunnings is coming soon
Thanks! It was from Australian luthier supplies. About $45 AUD for the three pieces. I was worried about joint lines, but the method I used worked perfectly.
I came to the comments section to ask exactly the same question. I looked for black veneer and couldn't find it anywhere in Melbourne. Problem with Australian Luthier Supplies is they are crazy expensive. Take stewmac prices, convert to Australian dollars then multiply by 2 (or 3). Looks great though.
They are more expensive generally. It was going to cost even more to get the veneer from overseas. I’ve got some offcuts left for future projects, but it would be good to find a cheaper supplier for it.
Best build series this year! Thats a beautiful guitar! Can’t wait for the next episode
Thanks Brett. They next episode should only be a few weeks away.
Both of y’all are killing it
I’ve watched this particular episode 3 times and it makes me smile every time! Amazing work 👍🏼👏🏼
It’s cool to read comments like this. I’m happy if people watch them once! Thanks!
I really love how you setup the neck cavity ... I definitely will use this approach. thank you
I would definitely recommend it. It’s the most ‘foolproof’ way I’ve worked out so far. 👍
As usual, you inspire me. Exceptional work. You raise the bar for all of us.
Thanks Ray. I was pleased that the top has worked so well. 👍
There should be a category for best cinematography, some of these build videos are masterpieces.
Thank you, I do enjoy putting the time into getting the filming and editing the way I like it.
One of the best out of all the ggbos
Thanks Corey. 👍
The guitar is stunning and the theme inspired. It's like you fell and defeated the Balrog, emerging as the White Wizard of Oz - the Guitar Builder. :)
😂 love it!

That's what I love about his GGBO builds. The guitars are great, but it's his storytelling that makes the videos extraordinary!
Great stuff! I enjoyed every meticulous minute of this episode!
Thanks! It’s all coming together nicely. 👍
Appreciate you taking us along for the journey.
Glad you’re enjoying it!
Learning how to improve my glueups with veneer, thanks. That top suits the theme perfectly.
Thanks Jurgs. I was worried the veneer would go askew, but the pins kept it in place nicely.
Stunning!
Thanks!
Looking fantastic
Thanks Marc. 👍
I love this guitar so much!
Thanks, me too!
Dude... This is exceptionally gorgeous.
Thanks Scott. I can’t wait to get the top fine sanded and oiled up.
@@adairguitars no kidding!
Beautiful!
Thanks!
Finally have time to catch up on your build dude and that top is absolutely and completely stunning!!!!!!!
Cheers! It was one of those tops that I had to get as soon as I saw it! 👍
Awesome! Nice touch with the veneer.
Cheers, I was pleased the veneer worked so well!
Love the idea of cutting the body wide and putting locating pins in that soon to be waste area. Smart
It was the best way to save as much of the top offcuts as possible. It worked well!
I can't wait for the fifth chapter ! I think this is gonna be my dream guitar !
The next chapter hopefully won’t be too far away. Glad you’re enjoying it! 👍
That top is going to be beautiful and, when paired with that neck, there is no way you are not going to win. I absolutely love it.
Thanks Andrew, I can’t wait to get final finishing on the top. 👍
man, the top figure is stunning, some of the finest luthiery and video work this year
Thanks, it means a lot to hear these type of comments. 👍
@@adairguitars all deserved mate
Stunning top!great work fellow ring bearer!!!
Why thank you!
this is so incredibly entertaining, great work man
Thanks Mick!
As always, amazing build and amazing video production. Definitely has my vote 👍
Thanks Cade! I can’t wait to get it finished and playing now. 👍
Gonna need to hear Misty Mountain Hop when it's done! Bonus points if you can find some cool vintage Les Paul guts to chuck in for tone
Will definitely have to play some Led Zeppelin LOTR inspired songs on it!
That's a beauty. Looking forward to the rest of the build.
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Really nice looking guitar so far.
Thanks Robert. 👍
Class build.
Cheers!
Epic build mate
Cheers! 👍
That top is, dare I say, fire!
It sure is!
Love it!
Thanks again! 👍
That top is amazing. 😍😍
It sure is! 👍
A spectacular bookmatched top to compliment an extraordinary build. Wow! Great stuff!
Thanks! I couldn’t resist getting the top when I first saw it.
Great job mate!
Thanks! Very happy so far.
I like it! I like the shape, and that top is beautiful.
Thanks! 👍
You've stepped it up a gear this year Arran! Well done buddy. Look forward to watching the build progress.
Thanks John. I’m having heaps of fun doing it once again!
Super build
Thanks Graham. 👍
Now hear the lay of the nine fingered, Frodo.
Beautiful instrument - coming in to the journey home - Feanor couldn't build one better!
Thanks Mike. It’s starting to feel like a real guitar now. 👍

This looks great Arran, really nice work! 👍

What are those woods you're using? When you scraped that top, wow that thing came to life!
Red rosewood top and swamp ash body. I can’t wait to get it fine sanded and oiled!
you sir just out done the original series of LOTR... story telling is the new way to build guitars i guess? epic build!
I always like to tell a good story. Thanks!
Wow and wow! The guitar is looking very good and this is another episode that you've put together beautifully! Corey is right. This is epic!
Thanks Bart! The videos do take a fair bit of time, but I really enjoy at and it makes it worthwhile hearing comments like this.
Wait I’m right? Can’t remember what I said but this build is awesome
@@saulgoodeguitars In the live chat last night, you said that this is epic.
@@adairguitars I bet they do! I think most of us have so much to learn before we can create videos half as good as yours.
Great work as every. Looks fantastic so far. Any rough idea of the hours of work covered in this video?
Thanks Paul. Hard to tell, possibly around 12 -15 hours including the filming and editing.
That top is stunning! What type of wood is it
Thanks, it’s red rosewood.

what a nice work,,,,,your template is handmade?
Thanks. Yes, made the template after designing the shape on Adobe Illustrator.
Fantastic work. Could you please let me know what timber you have used?
Thanks! Swamp ash body and red rosewood top. The neck in the other videos is maple with an ebony fretboard. 👍
Beautiful work. Would you be able to tell me where you get the black veneer from, I’m having real trouble sourcing it in NZ. Thanks

Three (pickup) rings for the Elven kings. 😉👍
Is it just me, or are there eye looking out from the top?
The eye of Sauron is always watching.
