    No way I could live in a place like that.. I don’t smoke indoors out of respect for my wife and daughter but if I couldn’t go out on my deck or go to the garage for a pipe or cigar I would move. Great pictures man and glad to hear from you!

    Glad to hear from you again, Bradley.
    Due to my current circumstances, I feel I'm pretty limited in my ability to smoke my pipe. I don't like to smoke if I don't have a comfortable place to sit and take my time - I don't like to feel rushed. As such, I've been enjoying my pipe in the park (away from others) about every other day or so (weather permitting).
    Edit: I would like to add that I don't really feel a "need" to smoke. For me it's about the ritual and the relaxing/calming that the ritual yields. I also smoke simply because I enjoy it.

    Bradley! I smoke a pipe whenever I feel like it, that means between 0 and 4 pipes a week. It has always been like that except for 9 months when I went through my illness and treatment. I stopped the day I decided to stop, and never smoked again until I was fully recovered. I never felt craving, but I missed it a lot. It was at this difficult moment that I needed a meditative pipe the most. I would say to you: find your moments to smoke a pipe and make them count. For me it's about quality not quantity and I'm sure you will find your peaceful pipe moments. Have a nice week!

    "Not a dependency" characterizes my relationship to the pipe, too. Recently I was ill for quite a while and didn't pick up a pipe for maybe three (?) weeks. I didn't miss it. Not at all. And I'm equally happy to have been able to return to it. And yes, it *is* cool to recognize that it's a hobby, not a habit.

    So good to see a fellow brother take hard times in stride. In a time where true manliness is a lost art, I think it's a skill afforded to men of the pipe. Not because of the pipe itself, but because we tend to slow down, breathe, and think more, even extending into the times when there is no pipe in our hand. Hoping for bigger and better things for you.

    I, too, am limited in my smoking spaces, but what I enjoy is the special time when I'm able to enjoy a pipe or a cigar, more so than if I were able to smoke anytime/anywhere. Makes it a more appreciative time. I recently visited my parents who have a huge patio with lush gardens and unrestricted outdoor smoking privileges, so I was very happy. Back home now, but the car still works.

    I smoke my pipe once a week. I make time for it. I enjoy it. I'm not addicted to it. I smoke outside on a podium. Where I live it gets unbearably hot and humid outside making pipe smoking difficult because you need to make the time. What I enjoy about pipe smoking is the ritual of preparing the tobacco, the cool retro "look" of it, the smell, the taste. If I smoke too fast or the tobacco isn't properly dried/moist then the smoke isn't as enjoyable. It's like a good cup of coffee or maybe a whisky. If I savour it, make the time for it and chill, I have a good smoke. Your channel and reviews add to that. Keep doing reviews.

    Love the setting of this video!
    I only smoke on my free days, so a few days a week...at least I can do it on the balconny or inside next to it or even with it open and a Biozone in the background.
    I am glad to hear that you have found something meaningful with photography!

    I've never been addicted to smoking a pipe... I have been into the briar for over a decade and I enjoy when I get a moment to go outside (I do not smoke in my home) to smoke a pipe. During the Spring and Fall I will normally smoke almost every day and often multiple times a day... BUT during the extreme cold of the Winter I will sometimes go weeks without and during the high heat of the Summer I will sometimes not smoke at all for months because it's just terrible to be outside... (I have just not smoked for all of July and August in years past...)
    The fact that pipes do not appear to be addictive in the way that cigarettes are pretty much proves that it is not the 'nicotine' alone that is the problem. It is the cocktail of chemicals in the cigarettes that are addictive of which nicotine is just one part and they have demonized it while turning it into the scapegoat...
    You have to love 'studies'... **yawn** Anywho... Great video as always my friend...
    Glad that you appear to be doing well... ^_^

    Longest i went without having a pipe was about 2 years. Just never felt moved to have one. When I started I'd usually have one or two a week. Currently I'm enjoying a pipe most evenings, but I'd wager as the seasons change that will back down to maybe once a week again and might not have any but a rare treat through the deep winter.
    Like you said, its a hobby that can be picked up or put down as the mood waxes or wanes.

  • @RidingWithDave
    @RidingWithDave 3 месяца назад

    My relationship with the pipe has for sure changed over time.
    When I first started I was so excited I over did it. I went from a couple of bowls a day to 6+ bowls a day. I wanted to try every tobacco and I loved it.
    Unfortunately, smoking that much I did get dependent on it. I felt the withdrawal from the nicotine and smoking in general. I craved it.
    So, I decided this is not what I want for myself and I decided to quit nicotine altogether for several months and when I did come back to it, I would only smoke at the most once every other day.
    That was the key and ever since then I will only smoke once every other day and I’m no longer dependent and can go weeks if needed without the pipe.
    So when people say, pipe smoking isn’t addictive, that’s not true. It can be, but as with most things, it needs to be done in moderation.

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube
      @stuffandthingsyoutube  3 месяца назад

      That's a good point. Most people don't get addicted because they interface with a pipe differently than they would with cigarettes.

    You saying you might be interrupted by a train sure brings me back to that old apartment of yours, Bradley, where the trains passed by so regularly!
    I've smoked a pipe now for nigh on seventeen years, and for the past twelve of those I've mostly been unable to smoke indoors. I've thankfully had access to balcony or patio for most of the time, but as I live in Sweden and the winters get cold, windy, and snowy that means I don't smoke much in the winter at all, as sitting down with a pipe outdoors wouldn't be very pleasant. I do take a pipe for a walk now and then, but it still might be a few weeks between pipes. Whereas in the summer I smoke multiple pipes a day when the weather allows it.
    There used to be a cigar club in my town but I sadly found out about them about the time they closed. They had a lounge where members could come and go as they wanted twenty-four hours a day, perhaps you might get lucky enough to find something similar somewhere not too far away? I've heard of others here and there. Membership might be expensive though.

    Yes Bradley, I've gone through differing "pipe phases" of my life where I would smoke every day for a year or two, then backed off because life got busy or complicated and my smoking reduced to 1-3 times a week (or even less). It did not mean that I was losing interest in the pipe or the hobby, it just meant life circumstances changed. The pipe is like that patient and caring good friend who you don't call as often as you should, but no matter what, will always be non-judgmental and so happy to hear from you when you do call.
    On a side note, I have lived in those "non smoking" apartments in the past and no one really seemed to care if I stepped outside to smoke my pipe. I think everyone respected the fact that the "no smoking anywhere on this property" thing was a step too far. At some point, your place has to be a home. Never know until you try.
    Cheers.

    During the warmer months, I typically have a pipe a day, but during the colder months, I go a week or so without having a pipe. Granted, I always try to low key convince my housemates to let me smoke inside while doing work (hasn’t worked yet, lol).
    That’s great advice and while it’s simple, it goes a long way. Appreciation and gratitude can really help reframe the narrative that we tell ourselves. Life itself is a great gift and the fact that there are so many cool and interesting things to experience in this life is another great gift.

    I completely agree about photography. It's a hobby I've recently taken up and I love going for long hikes with my camera in hand. There's something very therapeutic about it, and it changes the way you view the world. I also understand the struggle of carrying around a heavy camera. I own an EOS R paired with an 800mm lens, which is quite a beast to carry. I'm excited to see more photography content!

    I switched from daily to only 1 or 2 times a week. I used to have a couple bowls while going for a walk, but because I walk at a brisk pace, it is not conducive to enjoying the hobby. No problem not having one for weeks. Not an addiction in the least.

    I love smoking my pipe but only when I want to. It has never something I needed to do. That said, I have had years when I have smoked it more, some years later less. I had a bowl last night and it was probably the first I’ve had in around eight months. I have a pretty large collection of cellared tobacco and a good number of pipes but recently moved and it just hadn’t been the right time to sit down and enjoy a pipe. It’s good to see I’m not the only one in these comments that shares a similar pattern.
    Regarding Marlin Flake, it’s one of the great tobaccos. I fell in love with it early on in my pipe journey and highly recommend it.
    Thanks for the videos Bradley. Been watching you for years now.

    I love that park. Such an improvement over the stinky GP paper mill that it used to be!
    I don’t smoke around my family, so for me it’s usually if I’m telecommuting or if they are out of town. That means usually about 3 (maybe 4) times a month. And when the weather is nice, I’ll go on a little hike and smoke outdoors. But usually it’s in the daylight basement with the windows open.
    But last week I had dental surgery, so nothing for me until that’s all healed up. :)

    I had that same problem when I moved into one place I lived. I smoked inside my house anyway. It was all wood /vinyl wood finished stuff anyway, so it's basically impossible to tell other than the smell. If you have drywall then I do not recommend doing it. I just bought an air purifier and ran it while I smoked and it cleaned the air well.

  • @edodt4220
    @edodt4220 3 месяца назад

    Get a RabbitAir brother. I know people say "do this/do that" etc. but those air purifiers REALLY work for pipe smoke. They don't clear cigar or cigarette smoke nearly as efficiently, but the RabbitAir will clear pipe smoke in a matter of a couple of hours. We have moved three times in the last year and a half since we sold our house. Every place has been a rental. I am in a rental now. The RabbitAir has stood by me through three sets of landlords, and we now rent in a city near my wife's family who often make visits. No one can ever tell I smoke a pipe in my office. I do clean my office weekly, probably more than most people do but I wouldn't call it a seriously "deep" clean. I also open my windows a few hours each day for my cats. I suspect those other two details (30 min. clean up and vaccuum, opening windows) have minimal effect on the pipe smoke. The RabbitAir is the workhorse on the smoke.
    They are admittedly a bit pricey, and the replacement filters are also not cheap (around $100 to replace filters). But, I haven't actually replaced the filters on mine yet. Get the "odor remover" filter kit when/if you order it.

    • @edodt4220
      @edodt4220 3 месяца назад

      To add a little more to my "covert" system, I usually have a bowl in the morning, sometimes two or three on the weekend mornings, and one or two bowls in the evening. I smoke burley's a lot, but here lately mostly Elizabethan Mixture, and I do enjoy English blends in the cold months. The RabbitAir clears them ALL; I run it while I'm smoking, and usually have it on "auto" so it adjusts itself based on the amount of smoke it detects. Most of the time it is virtually silent, if I'm not smoking. It is not uncommon for me to turn it off when I know the smoke is cleared. I do occasionally burn a candle when I'm not smoking a pipe.....usually less than one hour a day.

    Have you heard of a “Smoke Buddy”? It’s basically a filter you exhale through which eliminates a good 95% of any smoke smell. My roommates and I used to use one in our college years to hide the smell of green leaf and it actually works really well. It’s like the pro version of a sploof.

    There was a really good video from Vashik Armenikus today called "Don't pursue happiness, pursue this instead." Well worth the 5-minute listen, so I won't give any spoilers!
    I had an English professor say that the more things you are interested in, the happier you'll be. I, too, am never bored. My experience with people who have said they are bored is that they expect to be entertained by others. Also, they are boring.
    A photographer friend of mine said that as long as you get the backs of people's heads, you don't need permission. That first dog could be a greeting card or a meme! 🙂

    💯 I believe the pandemic of depression anxiety… especially with our youth is due to a lack of being grateful. Social media has made it much worse for them. Some guy said something about not asking what others can do for you but ask what you can do for others. The pipe hobby like most things has seasons. For me I went from smoking my pipes two or times a week for the first couple years to two or three times a day almost every day for the past few months. I have been a pack a day cigarette smoker for about 25 years though and I'd really like to quit, so the pipe has become a cigarette replacement for me a few times a day and a few hours out of the day that I'm not breathing smoke into my lungs; which is a good thing.
    As far as location goes, I live in a non-smoking apartment building so I can't smoke indoors, but I can smoke out on the porch or lawn providing I'm at least 25 feet from the front door and no one seems to mind. I actually get quite a few comments from the neighbors on how good my pipes smell! 😊

    About the pipe hiatus...es: That was my biggest fear going into it. I want my household to be non-smoking since I don't care for the smell of cold ash in my apartment. I did smoke a lot during COVID, but also stopped just like that without issues. These days I'm smoking on a weekly basis, often less and that's totally fine. Hope you'll find a solution for your situation! Maybe there's a rooftop where no one cares - I personally only started for real when I moved into an apartment with an extra room for an office.
    I really don't know about the landlord-tenant relationships in the US, but in my country you can't kick people out just like that because they smoke. Maybe it's fine if you do renovate before moving out? I only smoke in my office with an open window and after a month of not smoking it would only take a good clean and maybe some paint and you wouldn't know. Probably best to talk about that sort of thing beforehand, you could even draw the "it's part of my income" card. Good luck!

    I only smoke when the weather is good for smoking. Not at all in the winter or in the heat of the summer. I can smoke daily for weeks, quit on a dime, and it doesn't seem to have the nicotine pull like cigarettes do. Unless you inhale the smoke, I think it's addictive potential is generally lower than other forms of tobacco consumption. I also rarely smoke more than once a day, and wonder jealously about people that can sit and smoke for longer than 40 minutes a day. Life is too busy! Looking good, and thanks for the update.

    I don't have a regular place I can smoke a pipe indoors and live in the Great Lakes region, which means pretty much November through March I don't smoke a pipe at all! I've learned smoking outside during the winter months is neither enjoyable nor relaxing, which is why I smoke a pipe in the first place. 99% of the time it's just not worth it.

    Depending on the State where You are, moreover here over the pond on the old continent ,there are a lot of various ridiculous rulings about smoking but enforicing of those ,in many places ,especially in the south is rather formal and not that strict

      Yes, it definitely depends where you are. You're technically not supposed to smoke in parks here, but it isn't really enforced if you aren't bothering anyone.

    I am sad to say that my pipe hobby has almost become dead. Not due to lack of interest but just not having the time or place to smoke the way I used to. I own my own home and have a fairly large patio, but live in Florida where for most of the year it's just too hot to sit outside and smoke, even in the shade. I would still do it, especially early in the morning or at night, but usually I'd reserve outdoor smokes for a time when the weather was nice and not too brutally hot. Most of the time I would smoke inside my home office whenever I had the house to myself. In the past three years, though, my wife and I have had two kids so the occasions when I have the house all to myself are almost non-existent. So now if there's ever a time when I am alone and the weather is nice enough to sit outside and smoke, it's a very special occasion when I break out the best blends I have. Maybe in a few years when both kids are in school and more independent I will pick it back up more frequently but for now I'm lucky to do it every couple of months.

    Good for you Bradley. Organisations and groups might decide on what they accept or don’t, and thats OK. if you cannot smoke at your new residence, then OK. There the rules, and perhaps you can adapt without it infringing your rights in the process too much. Not having a designated area for P S-ing tells you something about the mind set of those that make the rules. Not saying that in a bad way, BTW. It’s just interesting. It’s all or nothing these days.

    Hello Bradley, I started watching for your T reviews. And really enjoy your take on things. Your intrest in photograph and adventure made me think you would really enjoy a hobby I have had for a few years. Onewheeling. They are PEVs that are capable of taking you almost anywhere and they have helped me explore my own home town. Discovering new things in places you have driven by countless time. Also, the interactions you have with people is enjoyable, they are super intrested in such and odd, but amazing device. I know this is random, but I think you would really find joy in the Onewheel. Who knows, you may be able to smoke a pipe and ride at the same time lol.

      I did! I sold a LOT of extraneous things when I was getting ready to move and minimized my camera gear quite a bit. Some of the proceeds went to the move and some to the X100VI. I didn't realize they were so popular until I ordered mine, but having used it for a couple of weeks, I can see why.

    I prefer to be attached to as little as possible, a buddhist thing. Some things are enjoyable but have potentailly negative side effects, so I keep a watch on those, be it pipe smoking, scotch, or answering what I perceive to be snarky, thoughless comments from in-laws at holdiay gatherings...I own a house, so I can smoke at will, but I also treat it as an investment (I worry about the drywall) that I share with the wife, so, no smoking indoors. For me, it's pretty reasonable request on her part that makes perfect sense to me, and keeps me form being attached to pipe smoking - I don't smoke everyday. And in San Diego...pretty easy to smoke outdoors and enjoy my yard anyway. I use it as a reward for getting shit done and sitting for a while, which isn't an everyday thing, and that's ok. I'm better at reading/smoking my pipe than meditation, plus I just love the whole ritual of it.

My fiance and I really love your channel, wish we could meet in a public place for your autograph, but I know that's weird! Please don't quit the pipe, places like Regency have pretty good air circulation, I've never had a problem with stealthy-reasonable sessions in these apartments. It's not fair that these places can basically rule your life, even with OVER priced rent... 😕

    "Careful your penis doesn't drag on the ground... as you drive away". 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣!!! I love it! And I think it sucks that you can't smoke outdoors. I can understand no smoking in crowded venues like sports stadiums, but smoking outside in an open, uncrowded area wil not harm anyone, unless it's just someone's sensibilities. By the way, not to be pedantic, the pistil (or carpel) is the female parts of a flower made up of the stigma, style, and ovary. The anther is the guy part made up of the stamens and the filament which surrounds the pistil and deposits the pollen onto the stigma. OK, you probably didn't want a biology lesson, but after 6 years studying biology, I couldn't resist!🙄

    Why would you voluntarily choose to live in a place that bans outdoor smoking and even smoking in your car in the parking lot? Are they going to have vaccine mandates next? Imagine you're Association board voting for these rules. This is a place you do not want to live and you should strongly consider leaving and finding a new place.

    I have no doubt that you'll be deep diving into photography. It knows no limits in its vast histotry, traditions, philosophy, and pursuit of excellence. At some point you'll find your personal style.I would only caution you to strongly avoid going for "likes" as that has nothing to do with personal growth. RUclips has a wealth of Photo history, learning vlogs, and programs of inspiration. Also, there are some truly amazing books on the market of beautifully produce images, Bios, Philosophy, etc. I'm including a few links fr you to enjoy.
