Good one. Pease makes the best Latakia mixtures available today in my opinion. I keep getting draw back to Caravan. It has the Oriental forward flavor of Dunhill London Mixture, or Pease's Westminster. But he adds a bit of Burley to it, which doesn't really make itself known in its own right, but serves to add a nuttiness to the Oriental and give it a bit more nicotine punch.

"My second favorite blend tastes like creosote and band-aids" is a wild thing to say, but Gaslight is great.

Gaslight is my #1 favorite at the moment. My meat and potatoes. As for my favorite "treat" blend is still Blackhouse though Star of the East flake is a close second. Man now that I think of it I smoke Capstan blue as much as I smoke Gaslight now...dang. I remember binge watching the Bradcraft Show (still there btw) a couple of years ago.

All of GLP's Old London tobaccos are just fantastic. Really dig Gaslight, Six Pence, Quiet Nights, Chelsea Morning, and Meridian. While I love the stuff from Esoterica/Germain's and Gawith, I could spend the rest of my days smoking the tobaccos I just listed and be quite happy...though, I might cheat and order some Oriental #40 from L.J. Peretti now and then...

Interesting, many of the GL Pease blends I'd consider in my top 5 blends. One blend that you've always spoken highly of that I'd never tried was good ol' Peterson's Standard Mixture, and I finally tried it and like it very much. So my usual rotation is #1 965; #2 Standard Mixture, at least until I get a taste for a Lat bomb.

Have you ever had a Rauchbier, or a smoked Doppelbock? I think you would LOVe the flavor profile because they have that 'band-aid' smokey/bitter thing that you describe.
Personally that's a flavor profile that I STRONGLY dislike, but on the bright side it does make your reviews helpful to me in that I know that you like what I don't, so I've tried blends that you dislike because you tend to dislike them for reasons I like them, and I tend to know that the blends you love are simply not for me, so I leave them on the store shelves for people that do like them.

Gas Light - I’ll have to give it a rip..as long as that deep dark flavor profile doesn’t match the smell of that thick black creosote style insect tar copiously applied to a Middle Eastern Camels Fore-Skin🐪 (: Thank you for your continued reviews Brad

Bradley, Gaslight is one GL Pease blend I have never tried, and I have been a Greg Pease fan since his first company, Friedman and Pease, almost a quarter century ago. Wow. As for the smell of creosote, I once had a customer in Cadiz, KY, that did nothing but creosote used railroad ties for use as dock pilings, etc. Each time I called on them, I'd smell creosote for a week afterwards! All in all, not unpleasant; I called on slaughterhouses, too. Great video as usual!

My favorite blend of all time is Captain Earle's Ten Russians. I'm a strict worshipper of Latakia bombs. Ten Russians is the pinnacle with its billowy smoke, the notes of stewed fruit and chocolate, a flavor so rich it's like you can chew on the smoke, and a nic hit substantial enough to lock you to your chair after a good dinner.
Merciful Buddha as my witness, it's the Latakia blend that I compare all others to. While you'll see me go to Pirate Kake, Old Ironsides and Nightcap to shake it up every once in a while, only one Tobacco is written out in my monthly budget under 'mandatory'; Captain Earle's Ten Russians.

I thought I'd comment on the term "Trucker Jacket". I will be 67 next month and am unfamiliar with that name, I have heard them called Denim, Levis and blue jean jackets. I remember that they were thought of as more of a Western jacket or a Cowboy jacket that was fairly popular for working cowmen or for dressing up for a trip to town or going out for dinner and a night of dancing at Taylors Inn. Worn by some of the working cowboys who had small cattle ranches or worked for some of the local ranches here in East Oklahoma. Also popular purchase by parents for sons because they were a relatively inexpensive, rugged jacket that held up well enough to be handed down to little brother or younger cousin when big brother outgrew it. Just my thoughts on my dim memories of growing up in the 1960s - 70s.

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube

From what I've read, the "trucker jacket" moniker came from obsessive Japanese collectors who gobbled up all the vintage versions they could find. Now, Levi's calls the style the "Trucker" as well.

Fantastic reviews, Bradley. So many pipe enthusiasts - in an effort to sound nuanced and studious - avoid pragmatic descriptors like "Band-Aids," or "leather wallet," or "creosote." I don't care much for reviews that stick to blending nomenclature. When I first tried Standard Mixture, I detected campfire, grandma's purse, Band-Aids, leather, violet, and musty books. Looking forward to trying Gaslight. Bonus points for the Mariners gear. ;-)
