  • In this episode of Cesar 911, I come face to face with a seemingly problematic dog. But it this really the case? I meet Holly and her 2 year old Terrier Mix dog Lexi. Holly doesn’t seem to know how to handle Lexi’s bad behavior, and it doesn’t seem to be Lexi’s fault. I need to teach Holly how to properly train Lexi and be a positive pack leader to her dog.

As with children who get help from Jo (Super Nanny), it’s the adults who need to be taught how to correct their pets properly. With animals, timing is key as they won’t associate the correction with the unacceptable behavior if it doesn’t happen immediately. I like that Caesar is so patient to stay right with a dog until it submits and goes into a relaxed state.

I had never thought about how dogs communicate with one another and how important it is to learn their language until I started watching Cesar. Now, I really enjoy watching their behavior.

    • @cacatr4495
      @cacatr4495 6 дней назад +3

Hello! :) All animals have their language, and they all understand the other species' communication. We are the only ones that don't, so we must learn. I've been watching Cesar since maybe 2004, ten years before I began studying elephants. Another channel you might like, for the edu, is *_Think Like A Horse,_* as handling horses like dogs doesn't work since they're prey animals. Horses can't be manhandled, though people tend to think they can be heavy-handed with them, but it breaks trust and terrifies the horse. They are the flip side of dogs, dogs being predators. Horses are somewhat like cats, both being skittish and prey animals. Rick's (of *_Think Like A Horse_* ) teachings on the Drive-line and on Pressure & Release are quite valuable, and like Cesar's teachings, can even help us with people. I recommend Rick's very old videos, as that is where the teachings are. Both Rick's and Cesar's teachings can "turn the light on" of our understandings, such that we grow and mature as people. That also plays into learning how to become effective, respectful parents and leaders, considering the leadership skills one can develop. It's all very interesting. :) It teaches us how to see things from their view, how to interact with them as *they need, in becoming effective leaders. Rick's teaching about hierarchy and "who moves whose feet" is also enlightening, and we learn that all animals have their social structures. For dogs it's the pack, for horses it's the herd, as too for elephants, as with many other species, and they all have their "high horse," "low horse," positions of who leads who. This, too, can be seen in the human realm, and in the elephant realm. :)

@@cacatr4495 Hey there, you! I’ve seen Rick’s videos and he’s great. The trainers who realize one must know how a species communicates - I’m glad they have a platform like YT to spread the word.

Have you heard of *_Fluent Pet Recordable Buttons?_* Very interesting channels on YT of animals that use them are *_What About Bunny_* (female sheepdoodle dog), and *_The Chronicles of Todd_* (male tuxedo cat) and there are others as well. These animals are communicating via the buttons, having been taught the meanings of certain words. I understand that Bunny and hundreds of other animals are participants (via camera footage) in a university study on this subject.

Holly would call Lexi back if she started acting out and then give her treats which reinforces that unwanted behavior. It’s like when people give lots of affection to a dog in an anxious state, the dog will associate the touch with that behavior and continue to stay in that be. I learned these things from watching Caesar’s videos.

Amazing, how Cesar's whistle commanded that little dog in the midst of all the others. I noticed years ago when I had two dogs that whistling got them to obey while calling their names only hardly worked at all. There is something about a human whistle that fascinates dogs, I believe. Mine sometimes stood or sat in front of me, trying to figure out what that was. So funny!

@@mehtarelingolienyou can buy one. I’ve had dogs now for 20ish years. I couldn’t whistle for the longest time. But after I had back surgery and couldn’t walk them on leash so they would go out into
The fenced yard, when I wanted them to come inside I kept trying and trying to whistle and one day I finally sat down and watched a few RUclips videos on how to do it. As long as my mouth isn’t too dry I can whistle but not very loudly, my sister can make your ears bleed she can whistle so loud. My dogs still come to it. But since my two daughters can’t whistle either we ended up buying one.

Cesar really needs to invite people from around the world that are committed in rehabilitating dogs and training owners, to his centre as he is simple the best and would be devastating if we lost him or could no longer do what he does. Sharing skill and teaching is the only way to keep professions alive, i would be totally committed to such a program and honour his skill to bring them to the UK, to help people here save there dog going to pounds and not ending up pts. Not to earn money out of it just save as many as i could.

It occurs to me that as women we are taught right from earliest childhood not to be assertive. That message permeates throughout our lives and is very hard to change. When I first really ‘heard’ the word I was in my the thirties and the mother of two young children. I had to write it down and keep looking at it and trying to incorporate it into my life. Now at 75 I still only have about 50% success when the chips are down despite having a loving and completely non sexist husband of 46 years. It probably will change with time as society develops and we are more equally treated.

ah yes, the ole nurture debate, you women love that one don't you cause it blames everyone around you but yourselves... no, you weren't "taught" anything, it's simply in your nature to be a follower, not a leader, and there's nothing wrong with that... and besides, the whole "we were taught" argument is so weak, since when do kids ever listen to anything they're told and obey 100%? lol ... females are by in large incapable of genuine introspection and accountability, your comment is a classic example of that... whether you're 75 or 25, sadly this is the mentality that remains a constant among your kind throughout your lives ... smdh

I can't be sure but Lexi looks like a Jack Russel mix. I have *never* met a Jack Russell or any mix that included the breed that didn't have some type of aggression problem.
I'm certain a big part of the problem is that people don't give them the same discipline (not punishment!) as they would a bigger dog. There's too many small dog owners who treat them like babies and that creates little monsters that can really cause big problems.

I dont have a bunch of stale dogs to introduce him to, I dont have a Llama and goats and other cool animals to work with. I miss the old Cesar, before the DPC. I was standing with back to the door the 1 that attacked mine when she came in. 2. She waited then she growled and barked 3 times at ne when I had my back at her. 3. I turned and Sai: you are not getting any cheese from me barking like that. Go into the living room. Very calm dark voice. I use my right arm and pointed to the living room. She listened to me at once. After a pfht sound from her of course. Earlier that day she tried to bite me after my Mother took her up and she tried to give me her sideways. ... next time we Will give her to me with her back to me instead like you have trained. Lol so ... i feel like im training not the dog that tries to control my mom... 😂😂😂 She is rude when my mothers there but when she is not home the dog is not like that. Territory?. Forgive me for judging but when dogs act out in front of friends, the friend will let you down sooner or later

As I see on all these videos, women being insulted had poor dog owners.
To a small extent, a little more help for women as we are more nurturing naturally.
But women are not afraid to ask for help, and even when we are prideful, we grunt bit take the help.
Men are stubborn when it comes to asking for help in these kind of situations more so than women.
    It is what it is.
Kiddos to all that get the help with thier dogs, that is a big win in itself no matter the sex.
Maybe more women should get dogs since they are so willing to find or accept training help and work on it.

One must command respect when dealing with dogs.

That's sexist and absurd. I know plenty of men who can't handle their dog, while mine don't even bark at the doorbell because I trained her properly. Being emotionally unstable has no gender!
