On "My Car Story" we're in the Suburbs of Chicago IL on 9-15-18.
We're looking at a 1968 Pontiac GTO Coupe in Aleutian Blue Paint. The car comes with the factory V8 400 CI engine, and 4 Speed transmission.
The car's Owner is Keith Lowe. Keith’s had this car since 2016. He shares the car is freshly restored back to original condition and looks showroom new, or “Perfect”. This car also features a factory 8 track tape player.
ENJOY!
Just a perfect GTO, beautiful masculine blue color, no vinyl roof, no disco stripes, no nonsense spoilers, with standard transmission, with HURST shifter, with 8 track player... just the right extras , sober but tough! thanks Lou!
Hi Pablo Cespedes, Glad you enjoy this perfect GTO :-) You're welcome, Lou
Amazing memories. My late older brother bought one (with Dad's help) new in the spring of '68, his Sr. year in high school. It was olive green w/ the hottest-in-the-summer black vinyl interior, bare bones (dog dish hubs, no hidden headlights), had the 3 speed auto with Hurst Dual gate but it had those awesome red line tires. As a 12 year old little brother I remember many a trip around town with him when he would tolerate me. And that Engine Sound! Hard to believe 🙄 but when he graduated college 4 years later after 40,000 miles, a bent frame, burnt valves & slipping transmission it was still an awesome car. Teenagers of the '60's. The reason these cars left today are so valuable. Thank you, THANK YOU for sharing and bringing back such wonderful memories!! (BTW-due to Dad's experience with that car when it came my time in '76 he put the hammer down: "NO HOT RODS." So I was stuck with grocery getters until I became and 'Adult' 🤣🤣)
Beast 1624
Thanks for your Car Story!
Hi Beast 1624, Clearly wonderful memories :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing. You're welcome, Lou
This car still does it for me, even after 53 years.
Nice :-)
Absolutely gorgeous! Sad that Pontiac and Oldsmobile are no longer in production. Such memories of growing up in the 70's. Fantastic video Lou!! Two thumbs up and a nod!
Hi jcnme27, "Two Thumbs up and a nod!" High praise - thank you, Lou
I found my interior door badges for mine at a gas station in the middle of the Wyoming red desert, out of an original one that had rolled, towing a uhaul trailer during a blizzard 18 years before I got the pair! 😂
Interesting.
Beautiful setting in which to film a beautiful car. Obsessive attention to detail - right down to the 1968 sound effects (trunk popping open) - are a real joy to behold. Lou’s desire to see those hideaway headlight flaps rotate into position proves once again that although we’d all like to grow old, we don’t necessarily have to grow up...
Hi Andrew Graham, Growing up.. NAHHH :-) Thank you for sharing, Lou
My first dream car since I was little

Hey Lou. Sweet looking 1968 Pontiac GTO. I've always loved the 1968 and 69 GTO.
Hey Jason, Glad you enjoy the looks of this GTO :-) Me too, Lou
68-69 is definitely my favorite GTO body style. A 69 400 Ram Air IV-4 speed-4.33 rear(not a Judge) is my favorite GTO ever made. I probably would've ordered mine dark green or dark blue with plain steelies, dog dish caps, and red line tires. I actually like the LeMans chrome front bumper better so I would've ordered the Endura delete option too. The GTO Judge was too much of a cop magnet with the bright colors and wild graphics
Great alignment of bumper and fenders and correct tires TG. Sick of radials on the old cars everywhere, drive it the way it was built. Real nice car.
Glad to read you enjoy the details of this car Hans Gruber :-)
@@emptymannull Understood as I have owned many cars but to me it's like wearing white socks with a black suit.
I have a 1966,Factory dual carbs, Buick Riviera GS 88,000 miles restored, bought from original owner the night of Desert Storm Jan 15th 1991,came with Uniroyal Gold stripe line H70-15 Bia ply tires,I've bought reproductions for show, and i have radial 235-70-15's Gold line tires and braking, ride, and cornering is like night and day!!!
@@doncnunez6231 I had both but always favor the original look and that problem was solved when Coker Tire produced the bias ply looking red line radial, win win.
Ohhhh the sound of that Poncho 400....delicious.
Hi Audie Conrad, Glad you enjoy the "delicious" sound of this car :-) Me too, Lou
What a beautiful GTO and the owner has the perfect mid west accent to go along with it, sounds like his nose is all stopped up!
Hi Clark Griswold, Glad you enjoy this Care Taker and car :-) Lou
One of the best sounds in the world.
Happy to read you enjoy the sounds of this car :-) Me too!
Thank you Lou, you are great automotive historian.
Appreciate the kind words 323Cyclist :-) You're welcome, Lou
Ooo! Ooo! Ooo! GTO! Go, go, GTO! 68 GTO, sweeeeet! Me go in GTO!
AHEM - sorry about that Lou. I went primal for a couple of seconds there. Dude! I love the heck-fire outta this ride! Beautiful color too. The 8-track player completes the picture, the icing on the proverbial cake! I'll clean the drool on the floor up after I leave - no worries. A easy breezy triad of WoWs for the car and a quadrupling of thumbs up for you, Lou! Excellent car coverage.
Hi ImTheDaveman, "triad of WoWs" :-) High praise, Lou
I LOVE the headlights cover, A VERY GORGEOUS & REMARKABLE car. MIND BLOWING! engine sound.
Hi Vern, High praise :-) Lou
Makes sure to click the "thumb up" when you like a car, and please watch the commercials before the video to so I can get paid and keep sharing the cars we both enjoy!
I had no idea eight tracks were available in 1968. This is a great restoration. Reminds me our neighbor had a green 1968 Pontiac Tempest, but the GTO was the ultimate Pontiac in that era.
Hi HWolfelll, Fun to learn the details (8 track) of the car :-) Lou
Lou another gem.. reminds me of my 1969 blue G.T.O
Judge...
Hi Yesenia Krueger, Happy to read you have an awesome car :-) Lou
Man she sounds sweet. Great job Lou
Hi FUBAR Model Yard, Glad you enjoy the sounds of this car :-) Thank you for the kind words on the video, Lou
As an automotive writer I’m stunned at the level of restoration. Looks perfect! Even brand new 68s had endura bumper alignment issues how did they get it aligned like that? The 68-70 GTOs were the most stylish of all muscle cars, with the 68 Chargers a close second in my opinion.
Hi Doug Smith, To "stun" an Automotive Writer is high praise :-) Hope you see many more cars on this RUclips Channel you'll enjoy. Here's one just for you. Enjoy! Lou ruclips.net/video/6rFfDLa-1uM/видео.html
Wow, that GTO turned out awesome! Leave it to a Mopar shop to turn out a perfect Pontiac! Thanks for sharing this one with us, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighte45acp, Glad this one you enjoy this car and believe it's "awesome" :-) I think so too. You're welcome, Lou
Hi Lou! How are you? Wow, very cool GTO!! Aleutian Blue is a wonderful paint, I like it! Wow, cassette player makes me happy!! The sound of the engine, beautiful song, real America! Your videos, I am always surprised and delighted! Thank you Lou for the review!
Hi Good Russian, When I'm around cars I'm GREAT :-) How are you? Glad to receive a "Wow" from you. You're welcome, Lou
Hi Lou! This is true! You're right! I'm fine! Thank you!
That is a super nice 68 GTO. When he started that sucker up it reminded me of my Trans Am. Pontiacs have a unique sound starting up. My wife's sister's husband bought a 68 GTO in Verdoro Green his last year of high school 1968. Love the 68, and 69's GTO's they are awesome cars.
Hi ZWILD1, I was planning to title this video "The Perfect GTO" because the condition is showroom new :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing your GTO memories, Lou P.S. I like the 68 & 69's body design too.
68' was the first year the Goats started to look like tough muscle cars. The 65-67 were looooong.
Hi Minong Maniac, Thank you for viewing and sharing your thoughts. Hope you see many more cars on this RUclips Channel you enjoy. Lou
What a beautiful GTO Lou oh my God like you said it's just like brand-new just amazing this bed has a treasure here I love the engine sound by got it at shot awesome I love the color I love the style the options with the 8-track in it people nowadays don't even know what an 8-track is I still have tapes here. it was just a beautiful car that man has a wonderful treasure there and you know me low I love Pontiac it's a shame they quit making them. This guy has some awesome cars I love seeing his cars. Thanks Lou for sharing this treasure I just loved it!
Hi Steve Flad, Glad to read I found "treasure" for you :-) You're welcome, Lou
That exhaust note made me a Pontiac/GTO fan for life. Moms had a '68 bucket seat Lemans Nightshade Green and my aunt a '68 GTO in Verdoro. Music
Hi Alexander Spenser, Glad to read you enjoy the sound of this car :-) Me too. Sounds like Mom and Aunt had nice Pontiacs too, Lou
1968 GTO's are my favorite GTO ever made
Hi Bob Silver, We have a Winner :-) Lou
1968 Car of the year!
And wow that's one of the sweetest sounding GTOs I've ever heard original
Hi James Veach, Glad to receive a "Wow" from you :-) Lou
Very pretty color on this design. I had a 1970 with the 400 Ram Air.
A great car, and very comfortable for the long trips.
Hi 20alphabet, Glad you enjoy this car, and happy to read the video reminds you of yours :-) Lou

Hi Joseph, Glad to read you enjoy the looks and sounds of this car :-) One of my favorites, Lou
Fav yr looks great from any angle! That dash is gorgeous!! B.O.P. got way nicer interiors than the Chevys of same yr for sure.
The owners voice and tones...anyone else picture a Mr Lahey being interviewed here?
Cant help it would be a riot.
Thanks for viewing and sharing.
Beautiful GTO lou another great car 👍 the mopar restorer did a great Google in restoring this GTO
Hi David R, You're right, this one looks showroom new, Lou
Gorgeous car love the color great job on the restoration nice sounding motor too and it has the red line tires which are cool
Hi Pete Medina, Glad you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Me too, Lou
I HAD ONE - EXCEPT IT WAS GREEN WITH A LANDAU TOP -WHAT A GREAT CAR WISH I HAD ONE NOW. I WENT FROM A VOLKSWAGEN FASTBACK TO THE GTO IT TOOK ME A WEEK TO GET USED TO THE SPEED DIFFERENCE

I usually don't watch videos on 68 GTOs, it because I only ever see them in that yucky green paint. Now that blue is beautiful and worth stopping to watch a video on it. Great video
Hi Elizabeth Cherry, Glad to read this video is enjoyable for you :-) Lou
Verdoro Green is fantastic, just sayin'
Awesome car man. My personal favorite GTO is either a 64 389 Tri-power, or a 69 Ram Air IV
Glad this one is awesome for you :-) Regarding the 1964's, like these two ruclips.net/video/cYfPt_FtJLU/видео.html & ruclips.net/video/5OgqqbT_nRQ/видео.html
Another awesome car! I’ve always liked GTOs and was sad when GM was stupid enough to get rid of Pontiac. The only GTOs I didn’t like were the 2004-05 ones that looked like an oversized Chevy Cavalier. Thanks Lou for another great car story!
Hi Fred and Debra MacDonald, Glad you enjoy this "awesome" car :-) You're welcome, Lou
Amazing car!
Glad this one is an "amazing car" for you :-) I think so too.
Amazing looking GTO!! I'd be afraid of getting this dirty it's soo clean!!
Hi patty .s, Glad to read this GTO is an "amazing" car to you :-) Lou
That's a gorgeous car! I love that sound! That sticker that showed the size in cubes, said 350, 400, & 428. I gather that being a 6.5 litre, it's a 400 cube engine. Correct?
Hi clyde7059, Glad you enjoy the sound. I believe you're correct, Lou
Correct, the 400 is actually 6.6 liters (6.555) rounded up.
Awesome Lou《☆》The GTO plate was availabe so ' The Goat ' must haaaaave been taken. The radio / 8 track volume would never go past 3 so I could always hear the exhaust note ☻
Hi BDOG JR, Thank you for viewing and sharing your custom plate idea :-) Lou
Absolutely beautiful, Lou and thanks for sharing. P. S. Its prefect!!
Hi Ed B., Glad you enjoy this perfect GTO :-) Lou
ANOTHER GREAT CAR LOU TKS AGAIN MY FRIEND
Happy to read you enjoy this episode, and you're welcome my Friend RON.
Beautiful GTO - thanks Lou!
Hi Jeff King, An amazing looking "showroom" new car :-) You're welcome, Lou

Hi Paul, Happy to read this cars reminds you of the one you used to have :-) Hope you see many more cars on this RUclips Channel you'll enjoy, Lou

Wish my Honda sounded that good.
:-)
Beautiful car! Love the color, one of my dream car is an aleutian blue 68 grandprix with a 428 4 speed with 8 lug wheels.
Hi John Maccoy, Glad you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing the car you enjoy, Lou
Ahem....
not all 68' goats had the Pontiac symbol on the front bumper.
When looking at the front of the 1968 GTO it was the wraparound signal lenses was the easiest way to tell year.
Hi SantaClaus HawkeyeNJ, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge. ALSO I was a very good boy this year sharing car videos with all the Car Girls & Boys if you'd like to stick a 1968 GTO in my garage :-) Lou
Correct. I have a 68 GTO that is without and also I feel the best way to tell a 68 is the vent windows. 1969 did not have them.
that's a hell of a rumble from a stock engine back there! is it a ram air 3 or 4 ? definitely a healthy cam and lovely beast for sure! thanks guys! ☆☆☆
Hi my name is 905, Glad you enjoy the sounds of this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
If he has a son, hope he doesn't pull a ferris buhler when daddy is out of town! 😂
His son would have 19 cars to choose from :-) Stay tuned to see them.
i like how the headlights retract one then the other.

Love the rumble
Just the way we like it :-)
Thanks again lou your number 1
If I got my chance to own a GTO again, I would insist on it being restored to original like it was when it rolled off the assembly line.
Hi Larry, Happy to read you like the GTO just as it came from the factory. Me too, Lou
Ran that guy back and forth ,,,,wooooooah............
Wanna make sure I get you all the details Bruce Shenkel :-) Stay well, Lou
Sweet 😀
Glad you enjoy this "sweet" car :-)
The Great One!
:-)
“Give ‘er a lil’ rev!🚙🔥🔥🔥🔥🤪🤪
Ahhhh those wonderful sounds :-)
8:50 yep that is the original 8 track.
Nice :-)
A beautiful beast 😈
Just the way we like it :-)
They only had the flip lights in 68 and 69.

Funny my 68 didnt have emblem on front bumper. I have seen others here on RUclips without the emblem. I wonder some did some didn't.
Hi SantaClaus HawkeyeNJ, Hmmm, I'm not sure why some do and some don't. Lou
@@loucostabile here is a example. ruclips.net/video/bZSkRWkwjqE/видео.html I always say easy way to tell a 68' is the wrap around front signal lights.
7:37 that is the original 8 track tape deck.
I see you found out it is :-)
I'm wondering how much restoring a car like this goes for today ? Lots of money $$
No idea.
Lou you have your self a great looking 68 gto.lou have you ever seen what it will soon top end speed it is .
Hi Rickey Bullington, Well I hope your Prophetic as I videoed this one for you and I to enjoy, BUT I'd like to have a GTO like this one :-) Let's hope soon, Lou
Beautiful car..probably just the standard 400 motor with 330hp
Hi Daniel, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Me too, Lou
Ok, this may be a dumb question but I'm going to ask anyway. With these older cars I remember the gas was either leaded or unleaded. What would you do if your restored car required leaded gasoline?
I believe you can put unleaded in. If a Viewer has more knowledge, feel free to answer this question.
Lead was required for valve seat lubrication. When heads are redone, modern valves are used not needing leaded fuel.
There are cans of additive available for these engines, which have a few ingredients to render the same type fuel qualities as these originally required.
Easy to pour in when fueling, I did it back in the 70's with octane booster.
So how often do you drive such a car as this anyway?
10 - 15 times a year maybe, in good weather?
And usually to the local shows or a journey thru the area to keep it functional.
You can put hardened valve seats on it and use unleaded fuel.
nice trailer queen he needs some wheels for driving if doesn't want the new tires to lose that fresh moulded look it needs to be driven or one show it will humiliate him by not starting or moving but a lovely concours car none the less
Hi fox 6, Thank you for viewing and sharing your thoughts. Glad you enjoy this "concours" car :-) Lou
