I could only hope and dream I could have such a car back in 1964. I got my first driver's license in 1964 and was driving my mother's '60 Corvair. Me and a buddy drove over to the local Hot Shoppes (where they had in-car service and all the hot car guys hung out). As we were driving up a new 1964 GTO was coming out. As he stopped at the main road waiting to merge -- he gunned the engine, and I saw the car pitch to one side from the engine torque! I thought, damn, such a hot car! Yes, Lou, watching all your hot car videos get my 71 year-old Adrenalin pumping!

Lou, are you aware that 1964 the GTO was only an option package for the Pontiac Tempest Lemans? 1965, GTO became its own stand-alone model. Initially, John Delorean had 5000 Pontiac Tempest Lemans with GTO package built without the GM executives knowing about it. When they found out, they were going to fire Delorean until he asked them what he should do about the 10,000 more units that had already been ordered by dealers nationwide. The rest is history.

All lead sleds after '64.Taller,longer, 400# pounds heavier. The '64 was designed for use in NASCAR,and this car,if raced, would have cut heavy into the Chevrolet market. Thus GM dumped NASCAR.Politics and Pontiac taking too much market share.GM basically shut Pontiac down at every point and all the good guys left.Pontiac even had a twin-cam motor in development at that time. But thru '67,the GTOs were the best looking cars out there.

Lou Costabile, unless I missed it do you remember if the present owner was of an age where he could of bought a GTO in 1964 but did not have the money or needed money for other things, etc? Or did he lust after this car that he was too young to buy at the time?
Today, I find myself more interested in the cars that came out before I was old enough to buy one. I bought a ‘79 Trans Am new when I was 20 because that was the one that was out, but I really wished I was the age where I could have bought a new 1973 Trans Am. To this day it is my favorite style. I still have my ‘79, by the way, now 43 years old.
I would be worried in talking to the original owner. If he had a passion for the car but had to involuntarily give it up for whatever reason; first child on the way, etc., he could be sad and want to buy it back. I would feel guilty in telling him ‘No, sorry’.

The original Tiger Paws on these '64s were a pastel orange (tiger orange).I never saw these on any other make at that timeThey are unavailable now,as in '65 they went with the bolder redlines.Redlines are available to this day,but you'll never see the originals again. They are not as bold and probably only '64 GTO owners would be interested for full authenticity.

    Hi Lou,
Man o man that is one sweet GTO.
Just a question, being a post car by my understanding the backseat passengers can't wind down there windows, it's a solid window.
Looking at the video it looked like it had window winders for the rear seat passengers.
Can you just shine some light on this for me.
Yes another black sinister GM, imagine buying this back in 1964, you would be king of the street racing.
Another great video again Lou .

So with both window's down there is a pillar between them or not ?
I was always under the impression that post cars the rear window doesn't go down.
I will be damn learnt something new for the day.
      Thanks Lou
